FERRAS x Coming Back Around

Jordan-born and Los Angeles-based musician FERRAS premieres his new single ‘Coming Back Around’ today on Paper Magazine. The track is accompanied by an official video, which can be viewed HERE.

The track, available for purchase and streaming HERE, was released on Capitol Records’ joint venture label Unsub Records. ‘Coming Back Around’ was produced by Greg Wells, and written by FERRAS, Sarah Hudson, Babydaddy (Scissor Sisters), and Allie X.

FERRAS has spent the last year writing for various artists (Katy Perry, Adam Lambert, Dua Lipa…) and is now coming back into his own artistic endeavors. Returning to the familiar sound of his piano and penning songs from life experiences, he says of the track “I’m really excited about Coming Back Around because it not only is relevant in the sense that I’m literally releasing new music after being writing for others last year, but it’s a story of triumph, of self-acceptance and never giving up no matter what.”

Previously released singles ‘Medicine’ and ‘Closer’ have received praise from outlets including Buzzfeed, Billboard, and Idolator who declare FERRAS‘s sound as “slinky synth-pop.”  ‘Closer’ entered the TOP 10 on Spotify’s Viral Chart, went #1 on Hype Machine’s Twitter Chart, and was featured on Apple Music/Beats 1’s Best New Music Playlist its debut week. FERRAS’ self-titled EP landed in the Top 15 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Charts.

The crispy chicken with an undeniably delicious, sweet and smoky BBQ sauce blends recipes from Memphis and the Carolinas, briefly bringing peace to the BBQ belt.

Arin Ray Enlist Dram for His New Single Communication

Interscope Records recording artist Arin Ray releases his second single, “Communication,” which is now available at all digital retailers. The Cincinnati crooner nabs platinum hit-maker DRAM for his new record about love. “Communication” finds newcomer Arin Ray singing over a pop-leaning R&B beat courtesy of producer Childish Major (Future/J. Cole.). The message which strings together his list of promises to his new lover is tightly held together by soothing guitar baselines and drumkits. The singer/songwriter pens, “I know better than to cheat / you deserve the best from me.”

The Midwest-born singer released his YG assisted track “We Ain’t Homies,” in December and joined H.E.R on The Lights On tour. The upcoming album has recruited some heavy hitting producers such as Terrace Martin (Kendrick Lamar), Nez and Rio (A$AP Rocky/ScHoolboy Q). Then, this May, the story evolves into four different tales from different creative teams, each one containing its own distinct genre and mystery: action/adventure (Adamantium Agenda), horror (Claws of the Killer), dark romance (Mystery in Madripoor) and noir/detective (Weapon Lost.)

AI, Algorithms and More

Biased Algorithms are everywhere, so at a critical moment in the evolution of machine learning and AI, we need to talk about the societal issues this poses, according to Ralph Müller-Eiselt, an expert in education policy and governance. Müller-Eiselt was interviewed by C. M. Rubin for The Global Search for Education.

How do we ensure that algorithms are always conceived to achieve a positive impact for societies and education, rather than a danger or a risk?  Müller-Eiselt states in The Global Search for Education interview that discussions and debate about “the goals of software systems with social impact” are needed since “it is up to us as a society to decide where such systems should be used and to make sure that they are designed with the right purposes in mind.” He believes that even “algorithms designed with good intentions can produce bad results.”

Müller-Eiselt also discusses how algorithms and AI will impact evolving education systems. While the use of algorithms and AI in education is “still in its initial phase,” he asserts that policy makers should not be waiting to see what happens and react after the fact, but that they should “actively shape regulation now towards sustaining the public good.” He adds that those organizations involved in the design and development of algorithms also have a critical role to play and should be reflecting on their “social responsibility” and how best to create “common standards for professional ethics in this field.”

World’s Longest Selfie Stick

The Museum of Selfies today announced it will officially open to the public on April 1, 2018 and tickets will go on sale today at 12 noon PST. Furthermore, a proposed Guinness Book of World Records item for the world’s longest selfie stick will be unveiled at the museum’s exclusive grand opening event and will remain on display as an exhibition piece throughout the pop-up experience. According to the Guinness World Records’ website, the current record holder measures 18 meters (59.05 ft).

Open for a limited time in Los Angeles, The Museum of Selfies is an interactive museum that explores the history and cultural phenomenon of the selfie – an image of oneself taken by oneself – with historical roots dating back 40,000 years to the first depiction of human art.  From cavemen drawings to a “Narcissist” installation to a vertigo-inducing rooftop selfie illusion, the museum touches on a variety of points in human history that examines the intention of the selfie and what it means to the artist and its viewers.  The interactive exhibit will allow visitors to create art of their own through the lens of history, art, and immersive vignettes. Your inner narcissist – whether you like to admit it or not – will be ecstatic.

The Museum of Selfies will feature various one-of-a-kind exhibits dedicated to the most popular image categories spanning mankind, including: the “high-up selfie,” a vertigo-inducing, rooftop selfie mimicking the top of skyscraper; the “bathroom selfie,” a two-sided room that lacks self-reflection but excellent for trick photography; the “food selfie,” a super-sized exhibit that satisfies taste buds and foodie fanatics; a “narcissist” exhibit examining the number of deaths from selfie-related accidents while also offering a lesson in Greek mythology; and many other unique selfie opportunities that are reminiscent today and of centuries ago. The museum will also feature works from modern artists from around the world providing their provocative and creative vision of the selfie phenomenon.

Regardless of one’s perception of the selfie sensation, the museum offers a highly-visual and educational experience with every installation while also encouraging the inner-artist to post and initiate a discussion of the origin of selfies and their meanings.  And while other museums may have banned them, selfie sticks aren’t just allowed inside, they are encouraged.

The Museum of Selfies is located at 211 N. Brand Boulevard in Glendale, CA and will be open for a limited run from April 1 through May 31, 2018.
