LIDS LAMAR VALLEY

Lids latest collection, “Lamar Valley” includes the brand’s newest New Era x MLB colored undervisor hat.

Designed by Lids’ president, Britten Maughan, the “Lamar Valley” collection is inspired by Maughan’s experience of growing up on the western side of the United States and visiting the natural beauty of our nation’s parks and landscapes like the Rocky Mountains and Yellowstone National Park.

Maughan worked with a New Era designer to creatively curate the Lamar Valley colorway, making every detail and decision intentional. The overall hat tells a story and has underling meanings behind the cap’s undertones. The team logos are outlined in blue, signifying the river that flows through the valley. If familiar with Lamar Valley, you know the river isn’t prominent from every view, unlike the earth tones – the browns and greens – that can be seen all-year round. The collection also includes the limited edition MiLB hat, The Buffalo Bisons.

Tips on choosing a teeth whitening service that is guaranteed to deliver results

The perfect smile is just a teeth whitening service away. Whitening is great for removing any yellowing or stains on the exterior of your teeth. It sometimes isn’t as effective in getting rid of any deeper stains on the interior of your teeth, but whitening will still improve the appearance of your teeth.

The two options

There are two options for teeth whitening, depending on personal preference. The process of teeth whitening should fit into your lifestyle, so if you’re always busy, then teeth whitening at home might be the option for you. However, if you’d rather get it done at the dentist, then you might prefer the in-house teeth whitening service.

  1. Teeth whitening completed by your dentist

If you want instant results and to come out of the dentist appointment with sparkling white teeth then this is most likely the best route for you. Your dentist will be able to treat your teeth with stronger bleach than you can just buy off the shelves at your local drugstore. The thing with both teeth whitening options is that the results do depend on your teeth, some people’s teeth will whiten better than others, and others may need a couple of extra treatments. The price for this treatment does tend to vary, depending on a lot of factors, like the length of the appointment. Prices often start at £500 but can go all the way up to £2000.

There is an advantage to opting for teeth whitening completed by your dentist, and this is that it’s extremely quick, from around an hour to ninety minutes long. Also, some people do experience sensitivity after whitening, but getting your teeth whitening by a professional slightly eliminates this risk as a dentist will only put the whitener on your teeth. If you choose to whiten your teeth yourself, there is the risk of the whitening liquid leaking onto your gums and causing irritation.

In terms of disadvantages, sensitivity is a problem with any method of teeth whitening. But, because of the strength of bleach, a dentist may use, you may experience increased sensitivity if you opt for this method. It should only last around 24-48 hours long, and if it lasts any longer then a quick check-in with your dentist may be necessary.

  1. Teeth whitening completed at home, while being supervised by your dentist

The second option is teeth whitening which is done by you, at home. The first step is for your dentist to create a retainer that fits exactly into your mouth. To do this, they will take a mould of your teeth. Then, to complete the whitening you will need to place the whitening gel in the retainer and wear it for however long your dentist recommends. Sometimes this can be for half an hour, or slightly longer. The key is to get as much contact between your teeth and the whitening gel as possible.

The most obvious advantage here is that this method of whitening completely fits into your lifestyle and routine. You can do the whitening at any time you wish. Also, this method of whitening does tend to be a more cost-effective option as you’re not paying for your dentist’s time and knowledge. It will whiten just as well, for a cheaper price, which is a win-win situation. The price tends to be significantly lower than option one, at around £200 to £400 – and that’s including your retainer, whitening gel and dentist appointments.

For disadvantages, this option is definitely a slower process than just a one-time visit to your local dentist. Instead, it will take a few times of you putting in your whitening gel and retainer for you to see any noticeable difference. This is because the gel tends to be less powerful than the one done by your dentist. Also, this method is likely to cost you more time in the long run as you’ll have to take regular trips to the dentist to make sure that your retainer still fits properly.

Choose the option which suits you best

There are many things you should consider before choosing the teeth whitening option for you. Think about what fits in with your lifestyle. Do you prefer a quicker method of teeth whitening? Or would you rather complete it yourself at home? Both methods of whitening are guaranteed to give you those pearly white teeth that you’re after, so now it’s down to you.

Oral Hygiene × SARS-CoV-2

The British Dental Journal recently found that poor oral hygiene may be linked to more severe cases of COVID-19 because of the harmful bacteria found in mouths that have not been properly taken care of.

While the mouth has always been known as a gateway to the rest of the body, giving it the ability to cause problems in other areas, it is now found that poor oral hygiene can cause respiratory infections, making COVID-19 stronger.

The good news is that the best defense, in this scenario, is to follow good oral practices, like flossing, brushing and using mouthwash.

COVID-19 continues to be deadly, but there does appear to be some sort of link in more than half of fatal cases.

According to the British Dental Journal, “More than 80% of COVID-19 patients in ICUs exhibited an exceptionally high bacterial load, with more than 50% of deaths exhibiting bacterial superinfections.”

Even though COVID-19 is transferred virally, complications like pneumonia and acute respiratory distress might be caused by bacterial superinfection, which begins in the mouth.

The study says, “We recommend that oral hygiene be maintained, if not improved, during a SARS-CoV-2 infection in order to reduce the bacterial load in the mouth and the potential risk of a bacterial superinfection.”

Again, hygiene can be maintained by brushing, flossing and using mouthwash, but oral-care probiotics can also offer protection.

Oral-care probiotics are a specialized type of probiotic formulated to repopulate the oral cavity bacteria, which battles harmful bacteria that could lead to cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Dr. Eric Goulder, founder of the Heart and Stroke Prevention Center of Central Ohio, said he thinks heart health is also determined by oral health. His team uses ProBiora, which supports health in teeth and gums.

“We think everyone should be extra careful during the pandemic, and oral-care probiotics are a great way to help keep the oral cavity in balance 24-7,” Dr. Goulder said.

Tooth Discoloration Types & How To Get Better Looking Teeth At Home

If there’s one thing the importance of which we cannot deny, then it’s our smile. It shows our personality and makes other people comfortable around us. When it is beautiful, it makes a long-lasting impression on the people we meet. In other words, beautiful smiles are the smiles that are never, ever forgotten.

What does a beautiful smile start with? Sure, it also has to do with your eyes and your charm, but the truth is that you teeth play the major role in the appearance of your smile. To put things simply, if you want a beautiful smile, you will have to have beautiful teeth. It’s completely logical, isn’t it? The one usually doesn’t go without the other.

There is no one rule for how your teeth should look in order to be regarded as beautiful. There are no formulas or sets of criteria that you should follow so as to check whether your particular teeth fall under the category of beautiful. We cannot all be the same and it would be pretty boring if everybody had the same smile. Go here to learn how to have great teeth.

While it’s true that we cannot talk about specific rules when the appearance of your teeth is in question, there is one thing that we certainly can talk about when it comes to that appearance. I’m talking about the discoloration and the stains on your teeth. Those definitely play their part in making your whole smile less beautiful than it can be and, the worst part is, discoloration is bound to happen overtime, no matter how hard you try to fight and avoid it.

Just because it is bound to happen, though, it doesn’t mean that it cannot be solved. Luckily, people are no longer willing to put up with discoloration as if it were something completely normal, which led to scientists figuring out a few whitening methods that are nowadays used by individuals all over the world. Before we get to learning about those methods, though, let us quickly check out the types of tooth discoloration that you might be affected by.

Discoloration

Tooth discoloration can happen for many different reasons and the good news is that most of the stains that appear are perfectly treatable. Of course, different stains require different attention. Due to that, we will now take a look at the different discoloration types that exist, so that you can figure out what causes specific types and how each of those are supposed to be treated. So, let us get started.

  1. Extrinsic

Extrinsic stains are those that usually only affect the enamel, or the surface, which is a good thing, since removing them will be much easier. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. These particular stains are caused by certain foods, beverages and, of course, tobacco. This means that you will have to avoid some ingredients if you are planning on whitening your teeth. Those include colored beverages, as well as some red and dark-colored fruit and other types of foods.

It goes without saying that these stains cannot actually be removed by simply avoiding tobacco and some foods and drinks. This is the right step towards preventing the stains from appearing, but if you want to remove the ones that have already appeared, you will have to put in some more effort than that. We will, however, explain some of the at home whitening methods that will help you get better looking teeth, so let us not dwell on that now.

  1. Intrinsic

Before we get to those methods that I have mentioned above, we need to take a look at the two other common discoloration types. The second type are intrinsic stains that go a little deeper than the first one. In other words, these are located within the tooth, meaning that they might be a bit harder to remove than the first type. Let’s see what these are caused by.

Tooth decay is, of course, the first cause of these stains. In addition to that, certain types of medications that people take in order to deal with some illnesses and diseases they are affected by can also be the cause of intrinsic stains. On top of all that, genetics play a huge role here, meaning that poor genetics can definitely be the cause of these types of stains.

  1. Age-Related

There’s one last type that we have to mention. As you become older, the enamel is bound to wear away, which frequently results in yellowish teeth. These particular stains are rather difficult to avoid since, well, we do all celebrate our birthdays and get older year after year. Age-related stains can be caused both by certain intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Luckily, some of the methods that we are about to look into can definitely be successful in removing these stains.

Take a peek at some of those methods: https://www.insider.com/how-to-whiten-teeth-naturally-at-home

Get Better Looking Teeth At Home

It’s important to remember that regular dental checkups are a must. Skipping your appointments will lead to a lot of issues with your teeth and those issues can definitely affect their appearance as well. So, do yourself a favor and stop finding excuses to miss those appointments. If you do regular examinations, your teeth will be much healthier and thus better looking. Not to mention the fact that dentists are the experts that can give you the best advice on how to improve the look of your smile.

As true as that is, I understand the necessity of most people to search for at home whitening methods that can help them. I am definitely not the only one who understands this, since a lot of professionals have decided to create whitening products that could assist those people in this process. Some of those are more and some are less successful, but it ultimately all depends on you, your determination, as well as the particular stains that you are dealing with.

There certainly are, however, certain at-home methods that you can use in this endeavor. So, if you really want to get better looking teeth and thus a more beautiful smile, I suggest you take your time to research and try out some of those methods. You will find some of those below, so take a look at those and decide for yourself which ones you would like to try out.

  1. Oil Pulling

I’m not sure if you have heard about this method yet or not, but oil pulling actually goes way back. It is actually a traditional Indian method for removing toxins from the body and improving overall oral hygiene. These people usually used sesame or sunflower oil, but the truth is that any oil will actually work and, nowadays, coconut oil is the most popular option since it comes with a lot of health benefits.

Basically, what you have to do is swish the oil around your mouth in order for it to remove any bacteria that can easily turn into plaque and thus cause discoloration and other oral issues. Studies show that this can be done on a daily basis for the maximum effect. In fact, practicing this daily decreases the risk of developing plaque and gingivitis.

  1. Whitening Kits

Since everybody is perfectly aware of our desire to get better looking teeth, there are now a lot of at home teeth whitening kits on the market and most of those can significantly affect their color and the overall appearance. These are usually also designed to be used on a daily basis, but the method of use depends on the specific kit that you decide to get. People often go for whitening gels and trays since those are pretty easy to use and don’t require you to devote a large amount of time to the practice.

The most important thing that you need to remember, though, is that there are various manufacturers out there and that not all of their products can be of perfect quality. What does this mean for you exactly? Well, it’s simple. If you really want to get the best results, you will have to do your research on those manufacturers and their products and then make an informed decision and buy the kit that has proved to be helpful.

If some of the people around you have used these kits in the past, then you can talk to them and let them give you their point of view on the specific types of kits, as well as the manufacturers. This will bring you one step closer towards choosing the perfect product. Of course, you can also find a lot of useful information online and those are certainly going to help you make the right decision. So, do your research and get the best whitening kit for you.

  1. Baking Soda

Let us now get back to a method that requires you to do nothing more but use the products that you already have at home. I’m sure that this won’t be difficult for you to try, since you don’t really need to shop for anything in particular. Whether you knew this or not, baking soda is a rather popular ingredient contained in many commercial types of toothpaste. This means that you can easily use the baking soda you have at home in order to affect the color of your teeth.

Baking soda cannot only help scrub away the stains that you are bothered with, but it can also prevent bacteria from developing and growing, which means that it will have an overall great impact on your oral health. Keep in mind, though, that this ingredient won’t exactly whiten your teeth overnight. You will have to be persistent and patient, but you will surely notice the change for the better over time.

Now, the last thing that you have to remember is that you shouldn’t just pour baking soda on your toothbrush and try to brush that way. This would be rather ineffective and a complete waste of time. Instead, you can mix it with water and create a slightly firmer, gel-like substance that you can easily use to brush your teeth with. Doing this a couple of times a week should be enough to help you get the results you want.

  1. Hydrogen Peroxide

I suppose you are already aware of the effects that hydrogen peroxide can have on the appearance of your teeth. In fact, this substance is known to be contained in most whitening products out there. If you aren’t keen on using those particular products, you can easily get yourself hydrogen peroxide at home and work towards removing the stains your own way with the help of this product. Here’s how you can do it.

For starters, you can just buy hydrogen peroxide and use it as mouthwash. It would be wise to mix it with water, so that you dilute the solution you can get at a drugstore, since it might be a bit stronger than you need it to be. In addition to doing this, you can also mix hydrogen peroxide, water and baking soda together and make your own toothpaste that will definitely help you whiten your teeth at home (additional info) and get the smile that you want.

  1. Certain Fruits And Vegetables

I have mentioned above that certain types of foods can actually cause your teeth to stain, but here’s the thing. There are also some ingredients that can actually help you whiten them. Those include certain fruits and vegetables, with strawberries and pineapples being the most popular options that are claimed to be able to whiten your teeth. Including these in your diet will also be useful for your overall, and not just your oral, health.

  1. Flossing

While brushing is something that everybody does, some people tend to neglect or underestimate the importance of flossing. Don’t be one of those people. Flossing can help you prevent plaque buildup and get rid of the bacteria in your mouth, which certainly plays a huge part in the teeth whitening process.

At-Home Dentistry: Dos & Don’ts

By Justin Lyons

What are some of the craziest things you’ve done with your teeth at home? Have you tied one end of a string to your loose tooth and the other end of a string to your front door, then slammed it to pull the tooth out? Have you used pliers to pull a tooth? How about bleaching your teeth?

With viral TikTok and YouTube videos popularizing these practices, healthcare professionals are reasonably and rightfully concerned.

Dentist and author of Age With Style: Your Guide To A Youthful Smile & Healthy Living Dr. Nammy Patel wonders why anyone would perform self-surgery and risk trauma.

“Even before the pandemic, some people were resorting to DIY measures while trying to be cost-effective, but many of these actions bring significant risk to the teeth and gums,” Patel said. “People aren’t realizing that while it may be interesting and cheaper to try these dental actions on their own, it’s going to cost you more money, time, and pain before the mistakes are corrected by a professional.”

She specifically cites three at-home procedures people have taken up after losing insurance or while staying home. You should NOT be trying these three things at home:

1. Pulling a tooth: Dr. Patel says to never do this yourself. It can cause cavitation and infections in the bone that used to hold the tooth. Dental tools are designed to clean the area and remove the tooth, and trying to pull your tooth at home can lead to a snapped root, infection and surgical procedure. Just don’t do it because it might lead you to the dentist’s office anyways.

2. Bleaching: Dr. Patel says bleaching can lead to gum damage, burning in the gums, gum recession, tooth loss, enamel damage and tooth sensitivity.

“Some of the people you see doing this on social media are using hydrogen peroxide purchased online that has many times the amount allowed in regulated online teeth-whitening products,” Patel said.

3. Filing: First of all, ouch. Second of all, Dr. Patel says you can remove too much of your tooth if you try to smooth rough edges or adjust shape. It can change the way you bite and even cause jaw problems, specifically TMJ disorders.

There is dental care you can provide for yourself at home. In fact, Dr. Patel encourages three things. You SHOULD be doing these things at home:

1. Make your own toothpaste: Dentists provide suggested lists of ingredients as well as lists of toxic ingredients.

“By making toothpaste yourself you can create a better product, one without dangerous chemicals, and it’s cost-effective, too,” Dr. Patel said, adding that her toothpaste contains coconut oil and other natural oils and spices like cinnamon and peppermint.

2. Make your own mouthwash: Over-the-counter mouthwash typically contains alcohol, which is bad for the gums and can dry the mouth. Dr. Patel’s mouthwash is composed of peppermint oil, On Guard, distilled water and salt.

3. Power up your daily oral care: Dr. Patel suggests a water flosser, as it reaches cracks and crevices that typical floss does not.

“It’s easier to use than floss and provides a deeper clean with a pressurized stream of water, which pulsates to blast away food particles and built-up plaque,” Patel said.

She also suggested using a sonic toothbrush over an electric toothbrush to eliminate more bacteria.

It’s important to be careful and knowledgeable when it comes to arm-chair dentistry. If you try to avoid a seat in the dentist’s chair, you might not have a choice if you cause damage irreparable without surgery.

TWICE TOOTHPASTE & GLO GOOD FOUNDATION HOST 4th ANNUAL MISSION & DENTAL CLINIC IN ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS

430 SMILES REJUVENATED & TRANSFORMED!

Last weekend, Twice and GLO Good Foundation hosted their fourth annual Mission and Dental Clinic in Eleuthera, Bahamas. 2019 proved to be the most successful trip yet for the innovative direct-to-consumer toothpaste startup co-founded by brothers Julian and Cody Levine and Lenny Kravitz as well as the charity.

Over the course of four-and-a-half days, a team of dentists and oral care specialists set up shop in the center of Eleuthera and treated patients, offering gratis cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions, and surgical procedures on-site. The three company founders maintained a presence with boots on the ground, leading the proceedings each day. This marked a full circle moment for Twice, as the now-launched brand was inspired by this same mission experience just a few years ago. This time around, the founders were able to donate and provide Twice toothpaste to every patient seen at the clinic.

Additionally, instructors taught nutrition and oral care education to 200 students at the local schools, presenting the next generation with a foundation for proper dental hygiene.

“In our fourth year organizing the clinic in Eleuthera, we are again reminded of why we created Twice to unlock the power of people’s smiles. Aside from the incredible dental work that transforms lives, we put an increased focus on oral care education. There is a very large gap here, and it is one we are tackling head on. Proper education for the next generation about improving their hygiene enables our collective impact to be more sustainable. Now they can maintain a healthier lifestyle going forward, “ the Levine brothers said.

Following the official launch late last year, Twice’a flagship products are available on the company’s web site now. Giving back worldwide, 10% of all profits benefit GLO Good Foundation, which serves communities in dire need of proper dental care with life changing dentistry, education and supplies.

Twice and GLO Good have a shared mission to expand these services across the US and abroad over the coming years. Stay tuned for more product and news from Twice throughout 2019.

Lenny Kravitz’s New Mission with TWICE Toothpaste

Brothers Julian and Cody Levine and Lenny Kravitz have joined forces to bring a new kind of oral care brand, Twice, to the beauty & wellnessmarket. The brand is helping consumers take care of their smiles with products designed to positively impact brushing habits and our twice-a-day routines, starting with toothpaste.

Twice will debut a premium toothpaste set, with a unique flavor experience for morning and night. The morning formula, Early Bird, is designed to awaken, while the nighttime formula, Twilight, promotes relaxation. A shocking 35% of Americans do not brush twice a day, and so it is Twice’s mission to help improve this statistic with toothpaste purposefully designed from the inside out.

Founded from a genuine desire to spread healthy smiles across the globe, the Company will give 10 percent of its profits to the GLO Good Foundation, which serves communities in dire need of proper dental care.

“The only thing better than a beautiful smile is giving one to someone else,” says co-founder Julian Levine. “With Twice, we aim to offer innovative and highly effective oral care products that also make an impact – from as small as looking great on your bathroom counter to as meaningful as changing someone’s life by alleviating physical and emotional pain through dental care.”

The Levine brothers became inspired to create Twice in 2016, during a volunteer mission with GLO Good Foundation and Lenny’s Let Love Rule Foundation in Eleuthera, Bahamas, where the organizations had teamed up to host a free dental clinic. There, the brothers came face-to-face with hundreds of people suffering from all types of oral health diseases, many in serious pain, and saw first hand how grateful they were to receive proper oral care. They had become awakened to the transformational power of a smile and immediately bonded with Lenny over the experience; all three agreed they wanted to do more.

Soon after, the brothers contacted Lenny with the idea to give the oral care industry a makeover with a brand called Twice that would combine healthy and effective ingredients, great taste, and sharp, counter-friendly packaging with a cause: to improve the oral health care crisis. With Twice, they could help significantly increase the number of healthy mouths and confident smiles, and get people everywhere brushing twice a day. Lenny wanted to get involved in a big way, so together they began building the brand as co-founders.

“It’s easy to take for granted something as simple as brushing your teeth, but there are people around the world that look at toothpaste as a luxury,” says co-founder Lenny Kravitz. “Eleuthera is home for me, so the people and this cause are very close to my heart, and there’s nothing I want more than to see them happy, healthy and smiling. That’s why I’m committed to making Twice a reality and growing this important mission.”

The Company’s philosophy is that overall health starts in the mouth. Twice toothpaste contains a good-for-you ingredient profile power-packed with antioxidants and vitamins A, C, E, plant-based extract aloe vera, and unique functional flavors. Designed to do it all, the formula has dentist-trusted and proven ingredients to help whiten teeth, remineralize enamel, prevent painful cavities, and protect against sensitivity. Twice is also free of unnecessary ingredients known to cause irritation traditionally found in toothpaste. While the brothers are not dentists – Julian spent years as an investor and Cody as a creative marketer – they grew up watching their father, a well-respected dentist and inventor, becoming inspired and well-versed in the industry as a result. They researched and tested every product on the market, and tapped a network of renowned dentists, chemists, flavor specialists, and manufacturers to create their first two unique products:

Early Bird: a blast of morning mint that combines wintergreen and peppermint for your anytime wakeup call.
Twilight: a relaxing nighttime toothpaste that blends refreshing peppermint with vanilla and a gentle touch of lavender for a smooth transition from morning to night.

“Products that care for your smile should make you smile. So we set out to create the best toothpaste that makes an impact – one that we love using, every morning and every night,” says co-founder Cody Levine. “With a focus on experience, efficacy, design, and social responsibility, we believe it’s time to think Twice about your toothpaste.

Twice contains high-quality, globally-sourced ingredients, and is formulated and manufactured in the USA. The toothpaste is responsibly made to be non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free and never tested on animals. Starting in September 2018, the duo is available for $18.99 at www.smiletwice.com.
