Last week, Grammy® Award-nominated multi platinum singer and songwriter Julia Michaels released her full-length debut album, Not In Chronological Order, to critical acclaim.

Watch the newly released video for “Little Did I Know,” directed by Blythe Thomas, HEREWritten with Grammy® Award-nominated singer-and-songwriter JP Saxe, the song is a stunning ballad and standout track from the album. Set to perform on The Ellen Degeneres Show May 7th. New album Not In Chronological Order available now!

About Julia Michaels

Over the past few years, no songwriter has had more of an impact on reshaping pop music than Grammy® Award-nominated and multi platinum-selling artist Julia Michaels, whose razor-sharp perspective on love, loss, and the wide spectrum of the human experience has deservedly catapulted her to the forefront of her industry. Lauded for her work on hit singles by artists like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Niall Horan, Dua Lipa, Janelle Monáe, Shawn Mendes, P!NK, Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Hailee Steinfeld, The Chicks, Keith Urban, Jessie Ware, and more, Julia has spent the last decade honing her craft and delivering fans some of the most evocative music of a generation.

In 2017, Julia embarked on a solo career, separate from her work synthesizing the stories of the stars around her, with her 5x-platinum selling debut single “Issues.” A year later, her peers recognized her stunning work with Grammy® Award nominations for “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year.” Committing to her solo work, Julia released a series of critically acclaimed EPs, including 2017’s fan-favorite Nervous System and 2019’s critically acclaimed Inner Monologue Part 1 and Inner Monologue Part 2. She also embarked on The Inner Monologue Tour, which marked her first-ever headline tour throughout the U.S. following an enviable run touring the world with an incredible array of artists, including Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan, and P!NK.

To date, Julia has notched 25 Billboard Hot 100 entries as a songwriter, including two number 1’s for Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me,” in addition to four top 10 hits, including her debut single “Issues.” Of those 25, she has charted four Hot 100 entries as a recording artist including “Issues,” “I Miss You,” “Coming Home” and “If the World Was Ending,” for which she received her third Grammy® Award nomination in the category of “Song Of The Year” with collaborator JP Saxe.

“Writing this song with the person I love helped me realize that I could write a beautiful song about love without deriving it from toxicity,” says Julia.  “Shooting the music video was incredibly vulnerable for me, because when I wrote the song, I associated it with a significant other. When I made the music video, however, director Blythe Thomas made a wall of mirrors, and it forced me to sing these words to myself. I don’t think I’ve ever been that kind to myself, and that scared me. All that emotion in that video is incredibly real. If this process has taught me anything, it’s that sometimes we’re not as kind to ourselves as we should be. I’m grateful to have experienced this moment, and I hope fans resonate with this song and video in a special way like I did.” – Julia Michaels

In support of the release, JULIA spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 Radio’s New Music Daily Show

Offering another glimpse into what fans can expect from the upcoming album, “Love Is Weird,” weaves together airy production and soft acoustic guitar, while she delicately likens relationships to “Playing Operation trying to put me back together, before candidly admitting, “Love is weird. Don’t know how I wound up here…It shows up and disappears. This honest and hypnotic melody highlights her uncanny ability to tune into raw emotion and unfiltered lyricism, with her signature vocal tone and delivery.

The new song sets the stage for the release of her anxiously awaited full-length debut album, Not In Chronological Order, out on April 30, 2021.  Presenting a full 360-degree perspective on the critically acclaimed songstress, it examines every facet of her life emotionally and spiritually in a 10-song body of work that finds Julia piecing together the chapters of her life in one place work – pre-order Not In Chronological Order HERE.

“When I was looking at the tracklisting, it literally was not in chronological order of the events that it took place in my life,” she says. “The way that I saw the tracklisting in my head, a lot of the heartbreak came in the middle, and finding new love came at the end. That’s the arc of this album: I’m not bitter about love anymore. I know what functional love is like and being in love and being hesitant about that love because it feels so perfect.”

JULIA’S current single “All Your Exes” arrived at critical acclaim upon its release. Co-written with Grammy nominated singer and songwriter JP Saxe“All Your Exes,” Entertainment Weekly hailed it “a deliciously wicked delight,” with The New York Times praising it as “harsh, funny, sad and relatably petty.  FLOOD Magazine called it “a prime example of a vulnerable pop-punk banger,” while Billboard noted “Michaels has a tendency to throttle her listeners with her pen — and on the muscular, virtuosic “All Your Exes,” she makes sure that your attention is focused entirely on her seething jealousy.”  Meanwhile, V Magazine summarized, “There’s something to ditching fairytale notions of love that Julia Michaels fully gets as she returns to the front of the stage once again.”

Win With Black Women

Back in 2016, while campaigning for the office of President of the United States, Donald Trump asked black voters, “What do you have to lose?”

He asked in reference to generations of oppression, violence and inequality, saying, “You’re living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs. 58% of your youth is unemployed.”

The obvious implication is that things couldn’t possibly get worse for black voters, and Trump thought he had a chance to be the solution to the problem.

Well, in Sept. 2020, it seems that President Trump has his answer, and it comes in the form of a letter penned by Win With Black Women and co-signed by over 1,000 black female leaders.

The letter opens with a direct response to the question posed by Trump.

“Our answer, evidenced by increasingly poor economic outcomes, high racial tensions and hate incidents, the coronavirus, and an overall lack of dignity and respect in the White House, is a lot. And for Black women in particular, it’s too much,” the letter said.

It went on to discuss “sycophantic rhetoric” at the RNC that would lead watchers to believe that black life in America is in a healthier place now than it was prior to Trump’s election. Furthermore, the letter said that rhetoric insisted that anyone challenging that notion was brainwashed.

To refute the points set forth at the RNC, the letter cited the State of Black America, saying black households bring in 41% less than white households, and 60% of the black population lives below the poverty line. The letter also said that black unemployment is double the percentage of white unemployment.

The letter covered the cause of the recent protests throughout the country, saying, “Our lives are in constant threat under your Administration. If you are Black in America, you are three times more likely to be shot by the police,” going on to name Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Jacob Blake as evidence that justice has gone unserved.

It also mentioned that black people are dying disproportionally from COVID-19 while black women, specifically, “lag behind in life expectancy, and maternal and infant mortality.”

Win With Black Women finished by saying that they will fight against attacks on Kamala Harris and proposed a call to action.

“We call on voters, no matter their background, to join us in setting the record straight and to reject your distracting antics, lies and attacks. We call on you and the GOP to focus on the crises afflicting the American people and not to insult every American with petty diversions, outright lies, and by sweeping problems under the rug.  We call on voters to stand in solidarity with Black women and reject your derogatory sexist, racist rhetoric aimed at undermining our credibility, our character, and our achievements,” the letter said.

Before closing the letter, Win With Black Women said they “vow to continue to uplift the issues most important to our families and our communities, keep our eyes and ears open, and to work to restore what is true, just, and decent to this election and to this monumental time in history.”

Win With Black Women has published the letter on Change.org, asking signees of the petition to stand with them in unity. To sign the letter and to see a complete list of co-signing leaders, you can click right here.

Julia Michaels Releases Intimate Video for “Body”

Grammy® Award-nominated multiplatinum singer and songwriter JULIA MICHAELS just released the video for “Body,” a deeply personal song from her latest release Inner Monologue Part 2. Watch HERE.

The video premiered on Teen Vogue yesterday alongside an as-told-to essay where MICHAELS touched on the

inspiration behind her new song and video, and her own experiences with learning to love herself. Of the video MICHAELS says, “In the video for “Body,” I came up with the idea to start in a bunch of layers, and by the end I’m completely stripped. The second verse of the song is me talking about how I cover up. I wear big, oversized sweatshirts so that I can cover my body. I do all these things to make me feel more comfortable in my own skin, but really it’s making me more uncomfortable when I take it off because I’m constantly masking myself. I wanted to show people how I am versus how I could be.”

Julia will bring the song to life on the second leg of THE INNER MONOLOGUE TOUR which kicks off October 16 in Tempe, AZ and stops coast-to-coast. Check out the full confirmed itinerary below. Tickets are on-sale now HERE.

Chicago Bulls Debut Custom Basketball

From Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” to sneakerheads DIY-ing their classic pair of Air Force 1’s, custom sneakers have taken the culture by storm. This art form is now taken off the ground – and for a good cause. Instagram’s favorite sneaker customizer Kickstardomis teamed up with the Chicago Bulls player Lauri Markkanen on a custom painted basketball, and the player will now be quite literally shooting hoops with the world heat map. In the wake of IPCC’s new report, the ball features this year’s outlook on the world’s climate.

The act is part of Markkanen’s #DontChoke campaign with the Finnish renewable energy company Neste. #DontChoke is a call to action for bringing attention to individual’s choices’ role in battling climate change.

High Protein Diet May Increase Heart Failure Risk

For middle-aged men, eating higher amounts of protein was associated with a slightly elevated risk for heart failure than those who ate less protein, according to new research from the University of Eastern Finland. Proteins from fish and eggs were not associated with heart failure risk in this study. The findings were reported in Circulation: Heart Failure.

Despite the popularity of high protein diets, there is little research about how diets high in protein might impact men’s heart failure risk.

“As many people seem to take the health benefits of high-protein diets for granted, it is important to make clear the possible risks and benefits of these diets,” said Jyrki Virtanen, PhD, study author and an adjunct professor of nutritional epidemiology at the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. “Earlier studies have linked diets high in protein – especially from animal sources — with increased risks of type 2 diabetes and even death.”

Researchers studied 2,441 men, age 42 to 60, at the study’s start and followed them for an average 22 years. Overall, researchers found 334 cases of heart failure were diagnosed during the study and 70 percent of the protein consumed was from animal sources and 27.7 percent from plant sources. Higher intake of protein from most dietary sources, was associated with slightly higher risk. Only proteins from fish and eggs were not associated with heart failure risk in this study, researchers said.

For this study, researchers divided the men into four groups based on their daily protein consumption. When they compared men who ate the most protein to those who ate the least, they found their risk of heart failure was:

• 33 percent higher for all sources of protein;

• 43 percent higher for animal protein;

• 49 percent higher for dairy protein;

• 17 percent higher for plant protein.

“As this is one of the first studies reporting on the association between dietary protein and heart failure risk, more research is needed before we know whether moderating protein intake may be beneficial in the prevention of heart failure,” said Heli E.K. Virtanen, MSc, first author of study, PhD student and early career researcher at the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. “Long-term interventions comparing diets with differential protein compositions and emphasizing differential protein sources would be important to reveal possible effects of protein intake on risk factors of heart failure. More research is also needed in other study populations.”

The Finnish Cultural Foundation North Savo Regional fund, Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg Foundation, Paavo Nurmi Foundation and The Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists funded the study.

UMW Shadow Event Raises Campus Awareness Of Sexual Assault

“The event was impactful and enlightening.” – UMW student

“It’s taken me a while to come to terms with my situation and just going to the event was beneficial to me.” – UMW student

“I feel like we changed some lives last night.” – Speaker at event

‘The testimonials were very powerful.” – Alex Weathersby, RCASA

The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia held its first ever Shadow Event on Tuesday, November 14. The event was put on by UMW’s Where is the Line?, a club dedicated to raising awareness for sexual assault and domestic violence as well as providing support to survivors and empowering people to restore the hope that was lost. The club is affiliated with the Fear2Freedom organization.

The Shadow Event was held in on campus Dodd Auditorium. 6 survivors were given the opportunity to share their stories anonymously. A large, back light projection screen was set up in the center of the stage and each speaker had a designated color light that illuminated their silhouette to the audience. There were 5 female speakers and 1 male at the November 14 event. Over 100 students from the small school were in attendance to show their support. Representatives from the local prevention and support organization, Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault (RCASA), were also in attendance to provide counseling to audience members who may have been triggered by the speeches. In addition to the 6 speakers, there were singers that performed a song every 2 speeches to allow audience members to recollect themselves and take a mental break. Tori Power of the school’s show choir group covered Sara Bareilles’ “Brave”, Ellé Antzoulatos, WITL’s marketing coordinator, sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb”, and Rachel Lynch, a dedicated member of WITL, sang an a Capella version of Jeff Buckley’s “Hallejuah”. The audience members were given a set of colored notecards and a pencil upon arrival and had the opportunity to write words of encouragement to each speaker. The notes have been screened by club members and will be given to each survivor who spoke to help with the healing process.

The event was a tremendous success and WITL has begun planning and preparation for this spring’s Celebration Event, an interactive event where students will put together after care kits for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to receive upon intake into a shelter or at the beginning of a rape kit. To help fund for the event, the club has launched a T-Shirt sale. To support, click HERE

Connecting PHOENIX Variant Covers Showcase Jean Grey’s Adventures!

Phoenix rises again! And Marvel is celebrating with a series of connecting variant covers from Brazilian artist Victor Hugo, who is bringing his spectacular 3D art to the covers of one of Marvel’s most anticipated new series! Staring this January, Hugo’s art will appear on JEAN GREY #11 as well as issues #2-5 of PHOENIX RESURRECTION, each variant cover coming together to form a connecting portrait of the X-Men’s beloved mutant.

“I see this project as a milestone in my life,” said Hugo, who over the past 12 years has worked for Walt Disney Animation Studios, Blur Studios, and more. “I’m a 3D artist and even being a huge Marvel fan, I know that it’s definitely not common for publishers to request 3D illustrations for cover art, so not even in my coolest dreams did I think that someday I would be invited to do a Marvel comic book cover! The Phoenix Force is definitely the coolest thing about Jean, but what I really love about her is her evolution and changes through the years. It was an awesome experience being able to portray all the phases in a single artwork.”

A stalwart Marvel fan, Hugo is excited to be adding his stamp to the long history of artists who have drawn the hero. “I love to portray moments and appealing characters,” he continued. “I believe that having the chance to portray Jean’s key life moments was a great opportunity to express one thing that I like the most about comics: the feeling of adventure! We have action and drama, but the thing that I like the most about X-Men is their adventures and how characters evolve with that, and that’s what I wanted to focus on.”

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the magic with Marvel’s connecting Phoenix variant covers this January!
