Sam Johnson – Nineteen

Following on from the soaring success of his recent single ‘Changes’, which landed in Spotify editorial playlists such as ‘Pop Brandneu’, ‘Easy’, ‘Pop Relax’ and ‘New Pop UK’, was played on Apple Music’s Radio Show ‘New Music Daily Deutschland mit Aisha’, and highlighted in Billboard’s 10 Cool Pop Songs feature, British singer and songwriter Sam Johnson continues to build momentum for his forthcoming EP ‘Are We There Yet?’ with the release of his latest stunning single ‘Nineteen’ out November 20th.

Continuing the bold and thunderous sound that has become a theme of his latest offerings, ‘Nineteen’ sees Sam combine warm and wistful aesthetics with a truly anthemic production. Channeling his humble roots as a gifted acoustic singer-songwriter, the track quickly shifts gears and delivers a bright and euphoric texture that embodies the multifaceted feel that Sam Johnson has injected into all of his material to date.

Speaking about his new single, he said, “This one is a little more direct than the others. No hidden meaning here. It’s a very literal and biographical throwback to my fairly hedonistic last few years of school. My friends and I seemed far more focused on smoking high grade than we did on getting high grades and it certainly showed in our A level results. Still, they were some of the best days of my life, and this is a regret free ode to them. Interestingly though, I was born in 1995, and certainly not taking my final exams that year. The opening line ‘flash back to ninety-five’ can therefore be seen as a rare example on the EP where I gave myself artistic license to not be entirely honest, but instead allow some ambiguity because I liked the way the line sounded.”

‘Nineteen’ follows up the success of his previously shared singles ‘Changes’, ‘The Kids Are Alright’, the latter of which landed on Spotify editorial playlists Fresh & Chill, Pop Right Now and New Music Friday in the UK, Germany and Switzerland; Apple Music’s New Music Daily in eleven countries, and named Record Of The Week on BBC Radio Shropshire, and its follow-up ‘Peter Pan’, which found a home on Spotify’s Easy playlist.

Taken from Sam’s forthcoming EP ‘Are We There Yet?’ which is set for a January 2021 release, his latest collection is set to see him grow more as an artist and a human being throughout. “I create characters influenced by what I see around me,” he says. “A lot of the lyrics are touchstones of my childhood, and where I grew up… and the people that I grew up around.”

In recent weeks Sam Johnson was announced as a member of the Ivors Academy Youth Council. The newly formed Youth Council is made up of sixteen young creators from the Academy’s Youth Network, acting as an advisory group, which will form a central role in shaping the future of the Academy. The Academy’s Youth Network, which was established last autumn, is a growing and connected community of young creators and a hub of partnerships with Universities, Colleges and other non-academic organizations. The Network aims to empower and educate young songwriters and composers of all genres, and provide a platform at the Academy to voice views on music industry issues.

A driven and relentlessly ambitious artist, Sam Johnson’s story also owes a debt to chance. Fate dealt him an unusual card when Kevin Shields – My Bloody Valentine auteur – crossed his path, taking the fledgling talent into the studio for the very first time. “That was a real moment for me… that developed my backbone. It made me want to have that element of legacy. And he made me realize that it could be done.”

A country boy lost in the big city, Sam’s music has taken him from a rural setting to the London metropolis, but he’s driven by an extraordinary sense of purpose. ‘Are We There Yet?’ is a tightly bound EP, one where each passage speaks to the next. Overseen by My Riot at RAK Studios, the production is left deliberately raw, almost unfinished, so that the songs “could breathe, without over-cluttering it too much”.

By Eamonn Burke & Mina Tocalini

Justin Bieber’s 2021 World Tour dates have been rescheduled in consideration of the Coronavirus pandemic. The tour, promoting his fifth studio album entitled Changes, was set to begin this past May but it will now start early June in 2021.

“I can’t wait to get out there and connect with my fans on this tour,” says Justin. “We’ve been through so much this year. More than ever, we’ve come to understand how much we need each other, and how meaningful these moments can really be.”

The former teen sensation Bieber began his career at age 13, discovered by Scooter Braun on YouTube, and since then has released five albums, Changes being his latest. Bieber has sold over 150 million records and debuted number on Billboard 200, his fans’ dedication continued as he became the first musician to reach 7 billion streamers on Spotify. Despite having to reschedule his 2021 tour, Bieber’s success will likely continue in the future.

6 Choices to Make Your Mental & Physical Goals a Success in 2019

According to U.S. News, approximately 80% of resolutions fail by the second week in February. Why? Because dramatic and immediate changes are not sustainable long-term.

So this year, make 2019 not a year of resolutions or diets but one of incremental changes to instill habits that create real long-lasting results. Here are 6 tips:

Do What You Enjoy:

Commit to trying new things or even old things to remind yourself of what you enjoy. This is especially true for keeping active and fulfilling your body’s desire for movement and exercise. This can be taking frequent walks through nature, biking, dancing, hiking, or yoga. Start taking ballroom dancing lessons that you promised yourself you would try years ago. Take a barre method class where you can let your inner ballerina shine. Better yet, put that music on full blast while you are preparing dinner and dance like no one’s watching. It is not about perfection, it is about finding what you love to do and what brings a smile to your face, then it becomes fun and not something you want to do.

Add Things, Don’t Remove Them:

If your goal is to improve your nutrition to lose weight and improve your energy levels, try adding foods into your diet like vegetables. Find fun ways to prepare them to fit your taste buds. Often times if you start with a deprivation statement like, “I am going to stop eating all carbs,” then the only thing you will think about is carbs. When you introduce something new and start noticing the benefits of that change, then you are often inspired to move on to add the next change. Think addition not deprivation!

Stop Eating by 6pm:

If you want to encourage the body to burn fat for energy, stop eating by 6 or 7pm. This allows the body to put most of its energy into rejuvenating and restoring the body for the next day. It also gives the body all time it needs to use up all the sugar storage in the liver so then it can start burning the fat cells for needed energy.

Take 5 Minutes to Stop & Breathe:

If one of your goals is to start being more mindful or to simply start incorporating some relaxation techniques to help you react to stressful events with more ease then perhaps going from not meditating to promising to meditate every day for 45 minutes a day may be a bit overwhelming.

Try this simple strategy, wake up in the morning take a deep breath, record in a journal or on your phone one thing you are grateful for, appreciate or just makes you happy. Read it out loud and then follow with 5 slow breaths and really feel that joy. This way you are starting the habit and getting your body used to what relaxation and being in a state of gratitude feels like. During the day when things get hectic, pull out that book or play that recording and take 5 deep breaths. Fast, easy and often times very effective for decreasing the effects of those stress reactions.

Go to Bed 15 Minutes Earlier:

Work on getting a good night’s rest. A healthy amount of sleep helps you to be more alert, make better decisions, maintain a healthier weight and helps you to look and feel younger. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier each week for a month so you total an hour more of sleep. Remove all electronic devices in the bedroom that gives off artificial light and creating a bedtime routine that signals the body that it is time for bed.

Spend Your Time with Like-Minded People:

Make an effort to spend more quality time reconnecting with family or friends.  Individuals who have social connections suffer less symptoms of depression and may live longer healthier, lives. Also, establishing a support group can help to stay on track with our goals. This may look like once every two weeks to a month spending some time with your girlfriends or skyping or face timing them to catch up.

Making these gradual changes can help you to create habits that will help to feel more energized, feel less stressed, think more clearly and make better choices for you. With each choice comes the opportunity to be the person you have always envisioned.

Tens of thousands of fans, friends, and family touched by the everlasting light of Jahseh Onfroy a.k.a. XXXTentacion congregated at Florida Panthers Stadium in Sunrise, FL to commemorate his life and celebrate the legacy he built earlier today.

Planned by his mom, the public viewing and fan memorial allowed audiences to pay their respects to the multiplatinum game-changing artist together and do so in harmony. A moving tribute video created by Justin Staple, Quinton Dominguez, and Tyler Benz [Vice/Noisey] played for the capacity crowd during the proceedings as XXXTentacion’s music played inside and out of the stadium. Various celebrity VIPs attended, including Lil Yachty, Ugly God, Denzel Curry, Skai Jackson, Lil Uzi Vert, Adam 22 and more. Fans also left thousands of messages on commutative poster boards. This represents the culmination of a week of memorials across the country by fans everywhere. Beyond an outpouring of social media support from Kanye West, Diddy, J. Cole, Big Sean, and more, Academy® Award winner Jamie Foxx took to the stage at the BET Awards to deliver a moving message in remembrance. Longtime friend and collaborator Ski Mask The Slump God donned a mask in honor as further tributes poured in from the ceremony courtesy of actor Christian Keyes, Desiigner, and many others. Meanwhile, Meek Mill sported an XXXTentacion shirt during his much talked-about performance of the new single “Stay Woke.”

At the same time, XXXTentacion’s multiplatinum single “SAD!” from the chart-dominating ? ascended to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as if forever cementing his impact. Leaping from #52 to #1, the song becomes “the first posthumous #1 for a lead soloist since The Notorious B.I.G.’s ‘Mo Money Mo Problems in 1997,” according to Billboard. Eight other tracks hold spots in the Hot 100 such as “Moonlight” at #16, “Changes” at #18, “Jocelyn Flores” at #19, “FK Love” [feat. Trippie Redd] at #28, “Everybody Dies In Their Nightmares” at #42, “The Remedy for a Broke Heart (Why Am I So in Love)” at #58, “Hope” at #80, and “Numb” at #82. At Spotify, “SAD!” crushed Taylor Swift’s record for “Most Streams in a Single Day” and generated over 10.1 million in less than 24 hours.

XXXTentacion remains the voice of his generation, and that voice will live on forever.

Top Global Teachers × Redesign Curricula

Employers complain that graduates are not ready for work. Stanford University studies indicate students are overloaded and under-prepared. So exactly what should we teach young people in an age where Dr. Google has an answer for everything; humans are living longer; the traditional professions disappear while new ones are created; international mobility is drastically increasing population diversity; terrorism, environmental threats and inequality need our collective attention; and robots and gene editing are coming, requiring us to re-examine the very core of what it means to be human?

The Global Teacher Bloggers are pioneers and innovators in fields such as technology integration, mathematics coaching, special needs education, science instruction, and gender equity. C.M. Rubin Founder of CMRubinWorld asked them to reflect on these questions: Do you believe curriculum needs to be more relevant for a 21st century world? If you had the power to change the school curriculum, what would you change?

“We need to develop a generation of critical thinkers, collaborators, communicators, environmentalists and ethical IT users,” writes Rashmi Kathuria in India. “The content of the news in the last few months, and indeed years, provides clear and loud evidence for the fact that our education system is failing,” notes Miriam Mason-Sesay, who believes “division, hatred and bigoted fearfulness are fostered seemingly unchallenged, and our education system has not prepared our youngsters to evaluate the veracity of so many claims.” Craig Kemp in Singapore wants “more emphasis on lifelong learning skills than on curriculum content,” and Elisa Guerra Cruz’s curriculum would be focused on “passion projects, aimed at gaining knowledge and abilities, but also at discovering whatever fires a student’s heart,”
