Energias de Portugal and Sepio Systems

EDP, One of Europe’s Major Electricity Operators, Completes a Strategic Investment in the Cybersecurity Company Sepio Systems

Energias de Portugal, which ranks among Europe’s major electricity operators, and is one of Portugal’s largest business groups has completed a strategic investment in the Israel- and US-based cybersecurity company Sepio Systems. EDP is a vertically integrated utility company that has electricity, gas and renewable energy operations in 16 countries and EDP Renewables is the fourth wind power operator worldwide.

EDP is expanding partnerships in Cyber Security to further strengthen connectivity and resilience that are vital to the infrastructure, and advance new business opportunities. Over the last couple of years, attacks on critical infrastructure have surged, and the potential repercussions are significant. A loss of data is concerning, but a loss of electricity is catastrophic to both businesses and society.

“Sepio’s approach to protecting enterprises against attacks arising from rogue devices is very creative and a well-executed idea in the cybersecurity space, and we were even more impressed after experiencing it firsthand.” Said Luis Manuel, Board Member at EDP Ventures. “The software provides granular visibility into our assets and, best of all, allows us to define and enforce a security policy for hardware devices. We believe Sepio is well-positioned to protect assets in both the IT and OT domains and we look forward to supporting Sepio Systems to help them grow further.”

Also participating in the investment is Mindset Ventures, an international Venture Capital firm that supports the growth and development of innovative companies that provide solutions to the relevant markets in Latin America, and the existing investors – Pico Venture Partners and Founders Group.

The partnership with EDP will help Sepio Systems accelerate the development and deployment of Sepio’s Rogue Device Mitigation solution among utilities, financial institutes, and large enterprises in Europe.

Sepio Prime is the world’s first end-to-end solution that offers comprehensive mitigation of hardware-based attacks, including rogue peripherals, invisible network devices, and manipulated firmware. Sepio Prime has been successfully deployed in over 20 mid-sized to large banks, insurance, and telecom companies in the U.S., Singapore, Brazil, and Israel. The current install base secures over 600,000 workstations and network ports.

“The massive cyber-attacks and data breaches we see lately are due not just to the rise of cybercrime but also to the ease of getting hold of attack tools that were accessible to governments and intelligence organizations until only few years ago”, said Iftah Bratspiess, CEO of Sepio Systems. “We founded Sepio to help organizations address the rapidly growing threat of malicious hardware devices. By applying deep intelligence and hardware fingerprinting technology we can instantly and accurately detect and identify manipulated peripherals and network devices.”

Mr. Bratspiess added, “Having a top global vertically integrated utility such as EDP invest directly in Sepio is not only a vote of confidence in the company, but a testament to the significant risk organizations see in the uncontrolled use of hardware devices. In addition, the support and network of Mindset Ventures provides a huge leap forward in successfully engaging with top tier companies in Brazil. The new funding will fuel our technology roadmap as well as the expansion into new verticals and territories.”

The history of the British Touring Car Championship 1958-2018 By Matt James

“TOURING CAR RACING, The history of the British Touring Car Championship 1958-2018),” referred to as “a feast of nostalgia,” celebrates the 60-year heritage of the British Touring Car Championship. It is now available in the U.S. From the era of Mini Coopers and Lotus Cortinas to the Vauxhall Vectras and Honda Civics of recent years, all the highlights of Britain’s ever-spectacular touring car scene are captured in a year-by-year visual extravaganza with over 600 photos and expert commentary. Compiled by long-time touring car journalist Matt James, the book has a chapter for each year featuring a summary of the season, 10 photos showing all the top cars and drivers in action, key statistics and a profile of the champion driver. Anyone who has ever enjoyed touring car racing as a participant, spectator or television viewer should enjoy this book.

Two particular aspects are worthy of note for American enthusiasts:

* The book celebrates all the great cars to have raced in the series, including many from the U.S., such as Ford Galaxie, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

* Great drivers known to American fans feature in the story, including Jack Brabham,

Jim Clark, Dan Gurney, John Fitzpatrick and David Hobbs.

Notable historic moments covered in the book include:

* The 1950s. The British Saloon Car Championship was inaugurated in

1958 and from the start it was super-competitive, ending in a tie that was resolved by a shoot-out in favor of Jack Sears.

* The 1960s. There were three Mini champions but mainly this was a Ford era, epitomized by Lotus Cortinas (with Jim Clark ever spectacular) and big Falcons, Galaxies and Mustangs from America.

* The 1970s. Smaller classes came to the fore in this decade, with three drivers sharing seven titles – Bill McGovern took three in Sunbeam Imps while two apiece went to Bernard Unett (Chrysler Avenger GT) and Richard Longman (Mini 1275GT).

* The 1980s. Three drivers also bestrode this decade but in a wider range of cars, including Mazda RX-7, Alfa Romeo GTV, Rover Vitesse and Ford Sierra XR4i; Win Percy and Andy Rouse each took three titles, Chris Hodgetts two.

* The 1990s. Overseas drivers arrived in force to mix it with home-grown stars during the highly competitive Super Touring years, the decade’s champions including Joachim Winkelhock (BMW 318is), Frank Biela (Audi A4 quattro), Alain Menu (Renault Laguna), Rickard Rydell (Volvo S40) and Laurent Aïello (Nissan Primera).

* The 2000s. Vauxhalls were the star cars, taking six titles, while the decade brought three double champions in the form of James Thompson (Vauxhall Astra), Matt Neal (Honda Integra) and Fabrizio Giovanardi (Vauxhall Vectra VXR).

* The 2010s. Yet more variety and brilliant racing has characterized the current decade, with Gordon Shedden becoming the winningest driver with three titles in Honda Civics.

Prolight x Sound Guangzhou 2019

As the curtain fell on Prolight + Sound Guangzhou 2019 (PLSG), show organisers announced a new record of 1,353 exhibitors who flocked to the annual event from 25 countries and regions, along with 81,154 professional visitors (7% up) from the entire professional lighting, audio, event management, stage design, system integration and AV technology industry chain. Combined with an overall exhibition area of over 130,000 sqm, this marks the largest ever edition of PLSG to date.

Ms Judy Cheung, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, is delighted with the turnout this year: “PLSG is committed to supporting the industry’s development by offering a first-class business and information exchange platform for the entertainment sector. We wanted our exhibitor showcase and fringe events to cover every corner of the industry’s needs, and to echo the growing trends in media technologies and system integration. We’re proud to be able to capture so many opportunities all under one roof.”

Much to the delight of participants, many key pro audio and lighting brands could be found across all of the halls this year, including Adamson, AKG, Antari, APG, Art Sound, Asystems, Audinate, Audio-technica, Beta Three, Beyma, BIK, BMB, Boray, Bosch, Bose, Broad Future, Celestion, Charming, DAS, Colour Imagination, CD-Stage, d&b Audiotechnik, db Technologies, DMT, Eagle, EM Acoustics, Ezpro, Faitalpro, Fane, FBT, Fidek, Fine Art, Funktion-one, Gonsin, Haimei, Harman International, Hivi, HTDZ, IAG, ITC, Klotz, Konig & Meyer, Kvant, Laserworld, Lavoce, Lewitt, Longjoin, Mascot, Meyer Sound, Mipro, Mode, Montarbo, Nan Yi, Nexo, Nightsun, Pangolin, PCI, Phoenix, Plustruss, Polarlights, QSC, Rainbow, RCF, Redx, Ruisheng, SAE, SE Audiotechnik, Sennheiser, Seikaku, Showven, Shure, Soundking, ST Audio, Star-net, SWS, Taiden, Takstar, Tendzone, Thunderstone, TOA, Top Plot, TW Audio, Viashow, Vue Audiotechnik, Yamaha, Yes-tech and more.

The success of the fair and its increased global brand representation were clearly reflected on the show floor. The event served as an opportunity for brands to showcase their latest innovations to the region for the first time in 2019, many of which have been specifically catered to the Chinese market. The show’s display areas were presented under a new arrangement this year too, with the ‘Media Systems and Solutions’ and ‘Communication and Conference’ halls under the show’s Audio Brand Name halls receiving high praise.

The event’s popularity this year can be attributed to its extensive cooperation with local and overseas industry associations, leading companies and professional media. Each contributed by inviting a number of high quality buyer groups and organising well-attended fringe events. A total of 11 domestic and international visitor groups attended the fair, and local industry media HC360 hosted a product presentation for over 1,000 professional buyers. Elsewhere, increased internationalism was also reflected in the show’s premium buyer groups, some of which came from the China Association of Recording Engineers, the Guangdong Association of Stage Art, the Zhejiang Province Stage and Audio Institute and Entertainment Equipment Industry Technology Association (EEITA) from Taiwan.

In terms of the PLSG fringe programme this year, both attendees and speakers emphasised how each event offered valuable information exchange, networking and educational and training opportunities which added an extra dimension to the show’s offerings. Digital audio networks in particular were heavily discussed, including through a sold out panel discussion on AVIT and how artificial intelligence (AI) solutions can influence the market, as well as the returning Dante Certification courses. Elsewhere, one of the most popular concurrent activities was the series of four Outdoor Line Arrays, which welcomed 41 international and domestic brands and a double-string display, which was ever-busy thanks to the favourable weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the first interactive multimedia display in PLSG, the Lighting and Art Space, was extremely well attended with lots of professional visitors and industry new force across the entertainment, media creative and stage design sectors. The area was established to showcase new media technologies associated with 3D mapping, stage machinery, lighting installation, new media art, stage tech innovations and more. Developed in cooperation with Chinese media giant Visual Jockey, the area featured a total of 18 professional visual and display companies and brands, including Epson, Hecoos, Music Trick Lighting, X Color and more demonstrating their latest projection and display systems, and was bustling with intrigued visitors throughout the show.

Participants admire comprehensive coverage across each sector

Mr Hai Xiang, Area Manager, Beijing Tricolor Technology Co Ltd

(Communication and Conference Hall Exhibitor)

“Right now, the key digitalisation trends of the media systems industry involve more intelligent technology, more AI, and more integrated management systems, which all can be seen here at PLSG. We’re promoting our ‘Apollo’ and ‘CrossMedia’ audio and visual monitoring systems in the Communication and Conference Hall of PLSG, which can be applied for security surveillance. The show has such a strong influence in the industry and every year, there are more exhibitors joining which is testament to the organisers. It also helps us learn from our industry peers to continue improving and developing our products in line with the trends.”

Ms May Song, Vice President, Beijing Oriental Prime Connections Film/TV Technology Co Ltd

(Media Systems and Solutions Hall Exhibitor)

“This year is the 20th anniversary for our company, and we chose to host a press conference on the first day of PLSG because it’s such an influential show associated with our field of work. We’re also here to showcase some of our audio products which have been used in the Olympic Games and at a number of national conferences. The high visitor flow is a huge benefit for us, because a lot of quality buyers have been interested in visiting our booth, including from China, India, the Philippines, Vietnam and Korea. The show acts as a bridge between us and new business opportunities, because clients can discover us for the first time and we can interact with them face-to-face. It also helps us better understand customers’ demands to produce better products.”

Mr Allen Tan, Product Marketing Manager, Bosch (Shanghai) Security Systems Ltd

(Media Systems and Solutions Hall Exhibitor)

“The PLSG show is very influential, has a huge scale, and is the first major exhibition after the Chinese New Year, which helps gather a lot of buyers from both China and overseas. This also makes the show very suitable for us to launch new products and technologies, and showcase the strength of our brand to the right audience. All in all, we’ve met a lot of potential clients already, and the results are very exciting for us.”

Ms Julie Zhu, Vice President of China Region, Kvant Ltd

(Lighting Hall Exhibitor)

“Kvant has exhibited at PLSG for 10 years and manufactures laser display systems. The entertainment industry in China is growing robustly and has huge potential, and even some of the tourist spots here are demanding these kinds of advanced audio and visual technologies for creative performances. The fair always provides us a good chance to further promote our brand and showcase our advanced laser lighting products to buyers. It is one of the most important platforms for us to better understand the Chinese market trends.”

Mr Yosef Levy, Owner, RST Audio Equipment Ltd

(Overseas Buyer)

“I’m here at the show to source new audio equipment and technology from the Asian market, so I can develop my own business in Tel Aviv, Israel. I’ve noticed there are a lot of brands here who are working on integrated solutions and providing systems of international quality. It’s also been very busy, which means there are a lot of opportunities for me to chat with industry peers from all around the world, as well as many domestic and international audio brands. I’d like to follow up my time at the show by placing some orders, and I may meet with my new contacts again at the Shanghai show later this year.”

Mr Eli Wu, System Designer, Shenzhen Ezpro Sound and Light Technology Co Ltd

(Chinese Buyer)

“This is my fourth time to visit PLSG and I’m looking for some audio and lighting related solutions for my company. The fair accommodates both large and small scale exhibitors from local and overseas, and allows visitors to find a wide range of products. It definitely caters to buyers’ needs comprehensively. I’ve met lots of high quality suppliers at the fair, and their products are useful and provide a perfect user experience at the same time. The fair not only allows us to learn the industry latest trends through its well-rounded fringe programme events, but also acts as an important meeting point for the industry.”

Mr Kane Zhang, Senior Application Engineer, Biamp Systems

(Fringe Speaker)

“This is my first time to PLSG, where I’m hosting a session on AVB and also a panel discussion on AVIT. The content and details for these kinds of fringe events offer a face-to-face element and a more intimate setting for people to voice out their thoughts to learn from one another. Only through these platforms can we tap into future technologies and continue developing our industry. To me, PLSG is a huge show with lots of industry experts coming together, which has allowed it to grow into such a good platform to match our industry goals.”

Mr Kevin Gu, Vice President, Shanghai Epean Exhibition Creative Development Co Ltd

(Lighting and Art Space Attendee)

“The new Lighting and Art Space offers a very comprehensive coverage of reflected technology for sound and lighting electronic innovations in an exciting way. The light show for the miniature St Paul’s Cathedral replica is particularly impressive. Nowadays, visitors are looking for more ways to interact with hands-on exhibits, and I believe some of the technologies shown in this space will be part of the industry’s biggest trends in the future, as they can be widely applied to many cultural and creative events such as in art exhibitions and museums. It will help different kinds of innovations become a reality, and makes the experience more fun.”

REMARKS BY ROLLS-ROYCE CEO TORSTEN MÜLLER-ÖTVÖS

The following below is spoken from Rolls-Royce’s CEO himself Torsten Müller-Ötvös.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the House of Rolls-Royce here in Geneva!

Each year we come to Geneva to update you about our business and to share with you some truly special examples of our wonderful products.

And this year is no exception.

As the world’s pinnacle luxury brand, celebrating our 115th anniversary this year, we take great pride in these beautiful and precious items, lovingly handcrafted by the nearly 2000 people who work at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood.

This celebrated facility in West Sussex, is acknowledged as a global centre of luxury manufacturing excellence. It lies at the very heart of the Rolls-Royce success story.

Our Home is a very unique place – a creative oasis where we are constantly guided by the vision of our founding fathers, Charles Rolls and Henry Royce to “Strive for perfection in everything you do”.

Since 2003 every Rolls-Royce in the world has been created here.

Ladies and Gentlemen, at Rolls-Royce, our clients are our life-blood. They are our heroes and our friends and we are obsessively focused on providing for their needs and desires. For them, being within the warm embrace of the Rolls-Royce family is an unbelievable experience, like no other. And they are deeply appreciative of our hyper-centric attention to the smallest of details.

The Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood has become a must-visit destination for large numbers of our valued clients.

They come from around the world to specify their Rolls-Royces and to meet our designers, engineers and bespoke craftspeople.

Many return later to view their creation being built in our factory or to take delivery of their Rolls-Royce in our fully bespoke Customer Suite.

So, from Goodwood to Geneva, this year, we have brought some of the best examples of products for you view and to enjoy. They are all truly lovely!

We have our complete product offering on our stand today, led by the world’s most exclusive luxury product the Rolls-Royce Phantom, described by many of you in the media and by our customers as “the Best Car in the World”.

Phantom is at the core of our company’s success. It is a global expression of ultimate achievement and I am pleased to report that more and more of our younger customers are experiencing our Phantom short-wheelbase as a self-driver’s car.

Phantom is flanked by Ghost, now in its 10th year of production and still in strong demand around the world. Ghost is a global favorite among our powerful, entrepreneurial clients.

Then, we have brought from Goodwood examples of our two highly contemporary, seductive coupe models.

Wraith – here in its Black Badge guise – is the ultimate powerful and agile Grand Tourer. Edgy and menacing, Wraith appeals to our young clients who are trendsetting, cosmopolitan citizens of the world.

And then, Dawn, our truly beautiful sexy and seductive drophead coupe. Dawn is much loved by our more social, fun-loving customers who crave the sensual pleasure of open-air travel.

Finally, to complete our product line-up we are joined this year by our hugely successful Rolls-Royce Cullinan, our first SUV.

Cullinan was launched to great global acclaim last year and has received effusive headlines in the media and an enthusiastic welcome from our customers.

I am delighted to tell you that our forward orders for Cullinan stretch into the fourth quarter of this year.

We are in full production at our Goodwood factory and continue to make substantial investments, including the employment of an additional 200 associates, in order to meet this very pleasing customer demand.

I can confidently say today that Rolls-Royce is set on a continuous and successful growth trajectory.

And speaking of success, it is with great pride that I can tell you that 2018 was another exceptional year for Rolls-Royce.

We set an historic business record, achieving our highest annual sales in our marque’s 115-year history.

We delivered 4,107 cars to customers in over 50 countries around the world and in doing so achieved year-on-year sales growth in all regions. The Americas remained our largest market.

But at Rolls-Royce it’s not all about volume.

Our unique and successful business model focuses on preserving the rarity of our products, which is a key demand of our customers, while at the same time achieving record levels of profitability.

This, we believe, is the real hallmark of how a true luxury brand should be managed.

In this regard I am happy to report that the Rolls-Royce business generates pleasing profits and we continue to contribute to the bottom line of our shareholder, the BMW Group.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please take a close look at and enjoy all the fine Rolls-Royces on our stand. Each one contains unique and beautiful examples of our world- renowned Bespoke offerings.

No other manufacturer of luxury goods can equal customer personalization to this level.

Indeed, today more than ever, it is globally recognized that “Bespoke IS Rolls-Royce”.

To more fully understand our Bespoke offering, please do take a particularly close look at this beautiful Phantom Tranquillity.

Created for those who conceive and achieve the impossible, Tranquillity is an expression of Phantom’s standing as the rarest and most desired object in the luxury world.

The Tranquillity Collection is strictly limited to just 25 examples worldwide and I am pleased to tell you that they have already all been purchased by discerning Rolls- Royce collectors.

Look into the car and see the tasteful integration of wafer thin shavings of the Muonionalusta meteor that fell to earth in Sweden over a hundred years ago.

And enjoy the highly reflective stainless steel, 24 carat gold plating and space grade aluminium elements in the car.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the contemporary Rolls-Royce of today – a 115 year old brand, completely relevant in the present and moving purposefully into the future. A vibrant, successful and sustainable business, providing the most discerning people in the world with the rarest and very best luxury products and service on Earth.

As for the future: well, as you can imagine, we are not standing still!

We are imagineering and already engineering an exciting future for Rolls-Royce. A future that will be fully electric, digital and technologically innovative while never overlooking our commitment to the custodianship of the great Rolls-Royce brand.

This is what our customers and the world expects of us and rest assured, this is what we will deliver.

But for now, thank you for listening and I invite you to join me and my colleagues on the stand for a closer look at our lovely cars.

Thank you.

In addition to providing water to communities in need all over the globe and working towards a more sustainable future, a portion of the proceeds remains local going towards Las Vegas Water initiatives.

“McLaren Beverly Hills is extremely happy to be able to partner with an organization like One Drop. Providing sustainable access to safe water throughout the world is essential to ending poverty facilitating community development. It’s fantastic to know the funds raised from the auction of our Racing Through The Ages 570S Spider will go to such a noble and well-respected cause. We look forward to an ongoing partnership and supporting One Drop whenever possible in the future.” – Chris Blank, Brand Manager at McLaren Beverly Hills

“It is our duty as a worldwide recognized brand to promote a charity organization such as One Drop. The Muriwai White 570S is a car inspired by the ocean and seemed like the perfect nexus to represent our support to the people who, globally, still need access to water. We are very happy to contribute to the live auction with such an exciting item that will hopefully raise awareness, raise funds and help make the world a better place.” – Letizia Silvestri, Events Director at McLaren Beverly Hills

Additional donations include a limited edition Audemars Piguet timepiece, a private jet to a Turks & Caicos villa, Serengeti safari-living experience in Tanzania, and more.

Petersen Automotive Museum

Everyone else uses transporters, but not Petersen founding chairman Bruce Meyer. Watch as Bruce and friends take to the streets of Beverly Hills to personally deliver some of his winningest cars to the Petersen Automotive Museum ahead of the opening of “Winning Numbers: The First, The Fastest, The Famous.”

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, the Petersen Automotive Museum opened its newest exhibit featuring 10 groundbreaking race cars, each with a unique story of triumph and victory. Titled “Winning Numbers: The First, The Fastest, The Famous,” the exhibit is comprised of Le Mans winners, land speed record setters, dragsters and road racers from the personal garage of Petersen Founding Chairman Bruce Meyer.

Key vehicles on display include the winningest Ferrari road racer of all time, the 1957 Ferrari 625/250 Testa Rossa, which claimed first prize in more than half of the 50 competitions in which it was raced; the first production 1962 Shelby Cobra, CSX2001; the 1962 Greer Black Prudhomme, which was raced by drag racing legend Don Prudhomme who won 237 of the 241 races in which he piloted the car; the renowned 1952 So-Cal Speed Shop Belly Tank Racer, which was fashioned from a P-38 Lightning fighter belly tank from World War II by hot rod racing icon Alex Xydias; the 1979 Kremer Porsche 935 K3 that took first place overall at Le Mans; and the 1929 Ford “747” Bonneville Racer that Meyer ran 204 mph at Bonneville Salt Flats.

“Affectionately called ‘the car guy’s car guy,’ Bruce Meyer epitomizes true automotive passion,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “The charisma with which Bruce shares his passion is what sets him apart. ‘Winning Numbers’ reflects his discerning tastes as a collector and motorsports enthusiast, and we’re proud to share his fervor for the hobby with the community.”

The exhibit’s public opening was preceded by an evening reception and media preview on February 22, 2019. Guests of the exclusive event were treated to passed appetizers by the Petersen’s exclusive catering partner Drago, a full cocktail bar and a Fireside Chat discussion between Meyer and Karges.

“Winning Numbers” will run through January 19, 2020. For more information about the Petersen Automotive Museum exhibits, visit www.Petersen.org.
