Emmanuel Jal is a former child soldier from South Sudan, turned international recording artist, activist, philanthropist and life educator. Jal’s vision is to share his experiences for social emotional learning through the Arts, Business and Philanthropy, in order to create a higher state of conscious global awakening.

The My life is Art principles and teaching are rooted in Jal’s own experience and ancient and modern teachings that have supported him in his own healing from trauma.

He now shares his learnings and methodology with others through workshops, speaking engagements and one on one sessions designed to help others free themselves from struggle, step into their leadership and find their purpose.

Fudgy Avocado Brownies

Fudgy Avocado Brownies are a delicious and simple treat that’s loaded with healthy fat to keep you full and help you to fight off cravings for the day.

• Nonstick cooking spray

• 1 medium ripe avocado, mashed

• ¼ cup extra-virgin coconut oil, melted

• 1 large egg, lightly beaten

• ½ cup pure maple syrup

• 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

• ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

• ½ tsp. sea salt (or Himalayan salt)

• ¼ cup gluten-free flour

• ⅓ cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions

1 Preheat oven to 350° F.

2 Line an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Lightly coat with spray. Set aside.

3 Combine avocado, oil, egg, maple syrup, and extract in a medium bowl; mix well. Set aside.

4 Combine cocoa powder, salt, and flour in a medium bowl; mix well.

5 Add cocoa powder mixture to avocado mixture; mix well.

6 Add chocolate chips; mix until blended.

7 Pour batter into prepared pan; spread to make even.

8 Bake for 33 to 36 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

9 Cool for an hour before removing from pan. Cut into sixteen squares.

Baked Oatmeal Cups with Berries and Bananas

Baked Oatmeal Cups with Berries and Bananas are the scrumptious red, white, and blue festive treat to satisfy your guests on Labor Day Weekend without sabotaging your nutrition goals.

• Nonstick cooking spray

• 2 large eggs lightly beaten

• 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

• 2 large bananas mashed

• 1 Tbsp. raw honey

• 2½ cups dry old-fashioned rolled oats

• 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon

• 1½ tsp. baking powder

• 1½ cups unsweetened almond milk

• 2 cups fresh blueberries (or raspberries)

Instructions

1 Preheat oven to 350° F.

2 Prepare twelve muffin cups by coating with spray. Set aside.

3 Combine eggs, extract, bananas, and honey in a large bowl; mix well. Set aside.

4 Combine oats, cinnamon, and baking powder in a medium bowl; mix well.

5 Add oat mixture to egg mixture; mix well.

6 Add almond milk; mix well.

7 Divide oat mixture evenly between prepared muffin cups.

8 Top evenly with blueberries.

9 Bake 26 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

This is the newest teaser from the critically acclaimed Kansas City quartet’s upcoming debut album. They recently shared their single “17”.

Kicking off September 6 in Indianapolis, the band will join Jukebox The Ghost for upcoming North American tour dates. Amidst that run, they will also perform at WEQX PearlPalooza in Albany, NY on 9/15 alongside White Reaper, Superorganism, and KITTEN.

With their recent U.S. run, their energetic live show captured the attention of audiences across the country. After their Pittsburgh set, AXS wrote that The Greeting Committee “quickly won over the crowd with their energy and catchy songs.” Twin Cities Media praised, “If every band had the amount of energy that Addie had last night I would never have a complaint about a live show there’s no denying the power behind The Greeting Committee’s live shows”, while Music In Minnesota agreed, “The Greeting Committee put on one of the best performances from an opening act Iߣve ever seen in my life.”

Between high school classes in their native Kansas City, The Greeting Committee quietly stirred up a following with their 2015 debut EP It’s Not All That Bad, which caught the attention of Lazlo Geiger, a radio personality from 96.5 The Buzz. The lead single “Hands Down” impressively generated 10 million-plus streams as the band went on touring with the likes of MisterWives, Tennis, The Mowgli’s, Saint Motel, and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, as well as making a splash at Lollapalooza and SXSW. “17” is their first new release since their 2017 sophomore EP Meeting People Is Easy.

Sessions has a lot to say in his music and it’s often about the condition of Black America. In our modern day, we have faced countless issues where racial discrimination still exists, and Sessions uses his music to express just that.

With an elastic flow and impassioned lyrics, he acts as a self-contained Black Lives Matter rally. Sessions channels the anger, the despair, the injustice, and the heartbreak that accompany the cycle of systematic racism.

The American rapper is not afraid of the reactions that may occur in response to his music. It’s a bold attempt but in a genre that glorifies the money and clout, the main message that Sessions spread is something that America should listen to.
