Her Returns With “Neighborhood”

Today, Her unveils the live video for “Neighborhood” filmed at Studio La Fabrique in Paris—watch and share HERE! The video, directed by Rodrigue Huart, is part of the upcoming film “Are You Still Here” set for release this November.

“Neighborhood” is taken from Her’s critically-acclaimed, self-titled debut album released earlier this year, which also features the band’s hit tracks, “We Choose,” “On & On” (feat. AnnenMayKantereit & Roméo Elvis) and “Icarus.” Listen to Her here.

While still in school, the half-German Victor Solf and the French Simon Carpentier met in 2007, bonded like long lost brothers, started making music together equally informed by old school soul a la Otis Redding and post-Yeezus hip-hop and formed Her in 2015. Success followed as the breakout “Five Minutes” soundtracked Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign and eventually generated over 12 million Spotify streams. The duo released a pair of EPs Her Tape #1 and Her Tape #2, spawning fan favorites such as “Quite Like,” “Union,” “Her” and amassing over 20 million cumulative Spotify streams. Merging artfully seductive and provocative visuals and dreamy newer wave pop with a jazz undercurrent, the boys crisscrossed the globe in support of the EPs, including making waves stateside. In the middle of it all, unbeknownst to anyone but those closest to him, Simon lost a long, quiet and arduous battle with cancer in August 2017. With his friend’s spirit always close by, Victor worked on what would become the duo’s 2018 major label full-length debut, Her [Republic Records].

6 Things Millennials Can Do to Maintain Their Youth

Many people in their 20’s are stressed out about high post college student loan debt requiring side hustles to pay it off. They’re noticing tired eyes and premature wrinkles as they turn to filters to optimize their social media photos. There is pressure to keep up with celebrities their age not to mention the countless millennial “social media influencers” who are setting the new standard for beauty and youth. Bottomline, millennials are stressed, and they don’t want to look it. Dr. Manish Shah, a Denver, Colorado Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery urges the under 30 crowd not to overdo it with expensive treatments and procedures that can actually make them look older and put them further into debt.

Here are Dr. Shah’s 6 things millennials can do to maintain their youth.

1. Use sunblock every day.

“The best way to make sure your face is protected from the sun is to use a daily moisturizer with SPF of no less than 30,” explains Dr. Shah. He also suggests applying creams to your neck and chest to postpone wrinkling and sagging in these areas. “The sun protection done daily in your 20’s will pay off greatly in your 40’s,” he says.

2. Get your Vitamin C.

“Vitamin C is a huge collagen booster and it also reduces pores and brightens skin, and these are the exact things women in their late 30’s and 40’s complain about most,” he reveals. Foods such as cantaloupe, mango, pineapples, oranges, grapefruits, and berries are all packed with this antioxidant which, when eaten regularly does wonders to sustain a youthful glow.

3. Ditch the fast food and eat more fish.

Those late night post partying fries and pizza are to be expected and at 25 are difficult to avoid. Perhaps your metabolism can handle it, for now. Offset these weekend indulgences by eating fish during the week. “Fish oil has fatty acids can erase early wrinkles you may notice. It prevents inflammation which can only make wrinkles more noticeable and deeper over time. Many millennials who are picky eaters and avoid seafood can get Omega-3’s via supplements but getting it directly from eating fish is best,” Dr. Shah suggests.

4. Quit smoking.

Nothing will age you quicker than smoking. “It is possible for a 25-year-old to look 8-5 years younger, within just 3 months after quitting smoking. This number increases after age 30. Women over age 40 who don’t smoke typically look up to a decade younger than their counterparts who still smoke,” says Dr. Shah. There are a gazillion reasons to quit smoking. Linking it to vanity is a pretty powerful motivator.

5. Decrease your sugar intake.

You really want to start getting mindful about your sugar intake in your 20’s for many different reasons. “Sugars and carbohydrates are a beauty killer because they are pro-inflammatory. Pasta, ketchup, candy, ice cream, and fruit juices are often dietary staples for those under 30. Any inflammation in the body will show up on the face in the form of adult acne, sagging and wrinkling not to mention sallow skin tone,” warns Dr. Shah.

6. Maintain your glow with facials and peels.

While many millennials are starting off with “Baby Botox” which can postpone wrinkling, Botox isn’t cheap. It also can be a “gateway” treatment which leads to lip injections and fillers that often have a reverse effect making younger women appear older, cautions Dr. Shah. “Lasers and peels have come very far, offer an excellent solution for sun damage, skin texture, pores, acne scarring and cell turnover to stimulate collagen growth.

Dr. Shah concludes that millennials who get into a good solid habit of taking care of themselves both inside and out, will create a lifestyle of longevity. “Millennials raised by mothers who may have had breast implants, Botox and lip injections may feel that getting things “done” is normal. This is exactly why I am always very honest when advising patients under 25 on procedures they’re considering.”

Stefan James’s “Situation”

R&B/Soul vocalist, songwriter and producer STEFAN JAMES debuted the video for his debut single, “Situation,” exclusively via Complex today.  The single is out now via Republic Records—watch and share HERE!

Written as a reflection on the trials and tribulations of addiction, “Situation” contrasts delicate instrumentation against STEFAN’S entrancing falsetto.

Of the song, STEFAN says, “‘Situation’ is about feeling helpless after finding the one you thought you loved, a complete stranger. That type of pain brings out the worst in you. Two lost souls find each other in that same situation, feeding off the comfort and salvation in each other’s pain.”

20-year-old Stefan James’ music and lyrics pull from a life marred by tragic events, including battles with addiction and substance abuse, as well as the tragic loss of his older brother. Stefan turned to music to lead him on his road to recovery. Creating music enabled him to share this pain productively and poetically. “I’ve been there,” Stefan says, speaking to all who are dealing with depression, loss or addiction. “When you’re feeling down, just put a couple of my songs on and cry or smile. Whatever you have to do to get through that moment. You’re not alone.”

Further music from Stefan James is set to be released this fall.

2019 Chevy Silverado

By Anthony Sovinsky x Reid Urban x Vaughn Lowery

Chevy unveiled their most advanced Silverado lineup ever at the historic Forum in Los Angeles for the 2018 Tailgate Fest. 360 Magazine had the pleasure to accompany Chevy in their VIP lounge, where a delicious home style BBQ plate was served in the comfort of the Silverado’s tailgate. The festival included live performances from some of the biggest country artists –  including rap star Nelly and country music icon Toby Keith. As the feast came to a close, we were chauffeured back to headquarters in our test model to enjoy for the rest of our Labor Day weekend.

The Z71 has a massively updated design that embodies all of its characteristics – powerful, luxurious, and extremely capable. Starting at the front you are encountered by a very prominent front-end with chrome finishes. The contour lines of the truck blend flawlessly from front to rear, ensuring a luxurious façade to an otherwise bonafide work truck. In addition, unlike your typical pickup truck, several aerodynamic additions have been appended to enhance functionality. It includes air curtains in the front grille, similar to the sixth-generation Camaro, that reduce drag by routing air around the front wheel wells and an integrated spoiler at the rear edge of the cab that help reduce wind drag from the truck bed. Proceeding to the rear end, the tailgate is stamped with the iconic “CHEVROLET” in reference to its late, great predecessors of the 1950s and 60s. However, several other modern upgrades have been made that really set this model apart. Enlarged steps have been crafted into the bumper to better accommodate someone with steel toed boots to have easy access to the truck bed. Dual exhausts have also been stylishly integrated with up to 33 inch wheels for modern customer preferences.

The ultimate test of any pickup truck is the capacity and durability of the truck bed or as Chevy coins it: The “Durabed”. The 2019 Durabeds have all been improved in every manner possible. First off, it is equipped to hold the most cargo space in every bed length offered. This translates to 63 cubic feet of volume, making it 20% larger than the competition. More importantly, it is insanely durable and built for the job. It has a higher strength steel floor that can yield up to 340 to 500 megapascal of pressure. Other features include 12 double strength fixed-tie downs that will withstand up to 500 lbs of force before bending, task lighting, and a 120-volt power outlet.

Aside from using the tailgate for Labor Day festivities, most of our time was expended in the cabin. The redesigned interior with added safety features made commuting in the large truck much more comfy. The cabin space has been increased, allowing up to 44.5 inches of front leg room and 43.8 inches of rear legroom. We also found that there was plenty of storage room in the cabin for medium-sized carry-ons. Equipped with a 24-liter storage tray under the second row seat we were able to stow our champion backpacks and spare gym shoes. Moreover, the fabrics of the seats are super durable while also being stain and smell resistant. This made eating on the go less stressful.

The safety features and infotainment system greatly increased our confidence of navigating such a large truck in a busy city like Los Angeles. Maneuverability was made effortless thanks to several great safety features. The heads-up display enables you to keep your eyes on the road, while important information is projected onto the windshield, a rear camera mirror that allows for a wide angled view of areas behind the truck, and surround vision that gives you a birds-eye view to navigate tight spaces. In addition, several anti-collision mechanisms that include lane departure warnings, low speed forward auto braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and blind zone alert all help keep occupants of The Silverado safe and sound.

The infotainment comes travel ready with 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple car play, Android auto, wireless phone charging, and Onstar safety and security features. All amazing additions to have on hand for wherever the road takes you.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the the heart of the vehicle. Chevrolet produces arguably one of the best American engines on the market, and so several engines have been introduced to chariot the extensive line up of work horses. The most astounding options include the 5.3L V8 that allows up to 11,600 lbs of towing capacity, an all-new 2.7L turbo charged powerplant that offers up to 22% more torque and greater fuel efficiency than previous models, and new for the 2019 model is the Duramax 3.0L in-line six turbo diesel.

By nature, the Silverado is an all-encompassing vehicle of utility, design, and comfort. Our model, the 2019 Silverado 4WD LTZ crew with the Z71 off-road package, LTZ convenience package, and safety package additions is priced at $55,080 while the base model sticker is $48,700.

VALEO

2018 Paris Motor Show: Valeo reveals its innovations at the epicenter of the three revolutions shaping the automotive industry

At this year’s Paris Motor Show, Valeo is unveiling its latest technological innovations. These innovations are at the epicenter of the revolutions that are disrupting mobility as we know it: the autonomous vehicle, vehicle electrification and digital mobility.

In particular, Valeo is staging the open-road world début of its Valeo Drive4U® demo car, the first autonomous vehicle to be demonstrated on the streets of Paris itself. The car is equipped exclusively with ultrasonic sensors, cameras, laser scanners and radars already series produced by Valeo, and artificial intelligence, giving it a full-fledged digital brain. The technology is able to manage all the information collected by the sensors and learn from the complex scenarios it encounters in the city.

Valeo Drive4U® can already handle a wide variety of driving situations in urban environments, including undivided roads, intersections, traffic lights, tunnels and even streets with no markings. The car also knows how to deal with cyclists and pedestrians.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Valeo is also presenting its 48V solutions to make electric vehicles much more affordable, as well as the first all-electric urban prototype powered by a 48V Valeo motor. The prototype gives a glimpse of what tomorrow’s affordable urban vehicles could be like, designed to be just the right size for their intended use. It can reach speeds of 100 km/h, has a range of 150 km and does not emit any CO2. Valeo is also unveiling the world’s first 48V plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Lastly, since usage patterns are changing, with digital tools giving access to new ways of getting around, Valeo is developing technologies that promote the rise of intelligent mobility. One example of this is the real-time map of air quality in Paris, a project in partnership with ARIA Technologies. A fleet of some twenty vehicles equipped with Valeo sensors will travel around Paris to measure levels of six pollutants in real time. For Valeo, understanding pollution levels in urban areas is a vitally important step toward creating new, cleaner mobility solutions. By having precise information on air quality in a specific location, it will be possible, for example, to generate customized routes to avoid peaks in pollution, or activate pollution control systems inside cars.

With these innovations, Valeo has once again demonstrated its capacity to imagine, design and develop technologies that are conducive to the development of electric, autonomous, connected cars that are widely affordable yet adaptable to individual needs

Kevin Bourgeois: Wall Of Sound

Olsen Gruin announces Wall of Sound, an exhibition featuring music-inspired multimedia works by Kevin Bourgeois. The anticipated show comprises a curated selection of collage and acrylic compositions on wood panel.

Music has always been an intrinsic element in Bourgeois’ creative process and daily routine. “I consider it a universal cultural language with many diverse incarnations and forms,” he affirms. Wall of Sound turns its focus toward the visual art that complements the vast lexicon of music.

The phrase “Wall of Sound” was originally devised to describe Phil Spector’s production methods. According to Spector, the aim was “to create a dense aesthetic critical shorthand, mixed well enough that the audience would then perceive each of the different combinations as one distinct sound or form.” This concept mirrors the augmenting process Bourgeois implemented in creating this body of work.

Through collage Bourgeois seeks to transform the literal imagery of each album’s formal narrative. His process of embellishment and jigsaw remixing of multiple record jacket sources results in an alternative visual dialogue and imbues an abstracted or figurative aesthetic to be interpreted by the viewer.
