Maximize Your Adventures in Moab, Utah

The high-desert, red-rock playground that is Moab, Utah, is a vast wilderness with many a secret to reveal to the curious. But this territory can also prompt frustrations when it comes to such logistics as where to go, park and sleep. Even venturing onto the trails can be tricky for greenhorns. A landscape that may appear as familiar as a Hollywood set is anything but.

Moab Adventure Center (http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) is the go-to resource when it comes to questions about how to get the most out of a visit here. And the resident experts present will often suggest securing the services of a seasoned guide as the best way to maximize time and opportunities spent enjoying the Moab region.

Here’s why.

Avoid parking hassles. The trailhead parking lots at Arches National Park and Canyon lands National Park and at many other forest service and state park trailheads are often full by 10 a.m. A guide offers and utilizes drop-off/pick-up shuttle services to avoid the disappointment of being turned away due to a full lot.

Pack in more adventure. A guided experience eliminates back-tracking by always moving forward. More complex hikes may have different start and end points that require vehicle shuttles. Moab Adventure Center staff can arrange transfers and guide assistance for such hikes. One example is a six-mile trek from the Moab Rim to Hidden Valley that overlooks the Colorado River and town of Moab. The path drops to a canyon where the magic of prehistory is revealed in rock carvings known as petroglyphs. Different start and end points are solved with assistance of a guide or pre-arranged shuttle.

Fly instead of driveVisitors can save time and hassle by flying to Canyon lands Field Airport (CNY) in Moab from Salt Lake City or Denver (daily air service) where Moab Adventure Center will arrange transfers to in-town accommodations and to all activity sites. Guests don’t need a car as they can walk to shops, restaurants and to the Moab Adventure Center, all centrally located.

Secure sometimes-scarce lodging in Moab. Especially for peak spring and summer weekends, visitors should secure advance lodging reservations in Moab. Moab Adventure Center helps by holding blocks of rooms (Moab lodging options) for clients who book a trip with them a minimum of 30 days out.

Embellish adventures. A guide is a wellspring of information and loves to share interesting factoids and lore that embellish adventures, be it a hike among the red rocks or a full or half-day rafting trip on the Colorado River. A guide can also pick up on client interests and suggest other activities and what to do in Moab, Utah. The free Pocket Guide Moab: Last Minute Itineraries for the Undecided Traveler is also a good resource to the area.

Collect insider tips. Who has the best Happy Hour? Who has free Wi-Fi service in town? What’s the best way to view a red rock sunset? Again, guides dispense insights and suggestions at no extra cost. An Arches Sunset Tour, for example, includes a 50+ mile, four-hour guided, interpretive tour in a comfortable sightseeing vehicle that stops at five sites where easy hikes await.

Safety factors weigh in. A guide is aware of which trails may be closed and of pending weather extremes such as icy conditions or flash floods. A guide also brings along extra water, first aid supplies and a cell/sat phone. Moab Adventure Center guides are trained in how to administer advanced wilderness first aid.

Arrange meet-ups with new friends. Part of the fun of travel and adventure is sharing experiences with people who soon shift from strangers to friends. A professionally trained guide helps break the ice and set the tone for a mutually good time.

British Parents Spend £642 a Month on Credit Cards

  • TotallyMoney’s Credit Spending Index reveals the nation is spending 46% more on credit cards compared to ten years ago.
  • 56% of parents would rather save for a family holiday than clothing for children and school equipment and trips.
  • 78% of parents worry about their financial situation at least once a month

Getting kids back to school means buying new P.E. kits, geometry sets, and school uniforms, 64% of parents, however, are frequently concerned about being able to afford their bills – so how are parents managing to cope with their cash flow, bills, and outgoings? The last ten years have been filled with financial uncertainty, from the market crash to the housing bubble, these have affected all forms of spending habits such as the price of petrol to the price of school lunches.

Families are becoming more frugal when it comes to watching their pennies. TotallyMoney’s new research explores spending over the past decade, tracking data on consumer behavior, to reveal how parents have been managing their cash and paying their bills.

Younger Families Rely the Most on Credit Card Spending

Although the number of credit cards and accounts in circulation has decreased by 10% over the past decade, the number of purchases made have risen by 25%. Totally Money’s study reveals that the total value of credit card purchases has increased by a worryingly high 46%. When parents were asked if they feel they rely too heavily on their credit cards, 13% agreed. This agreement peaked to just under one out of five parents with young families (those who have children under the age of three).

Parents Prioritize Holiday Saving

The survey also revealed that a shocking 78% of parents worry about their financial situation on a monthly basis, with 28% worrying daily. However, despite this, an alarming 56% of parents prioritize saving for their family holiday over clothing for their children, as well as school equipment and school trips.

Credit Card Spending

With just over 75% of parents owning a credit card, 36% rely on their credit card to get them through the month – spending an average of £643 per month. The study also unveiled younger families might worry the most but are evidently savvier when it comes to their pennies; spending the least on their credit cards per month (£551). However, whilst parents with children aged between eight and twelve have the highest amount of disposable income, an average of £315 left at the end month, it seems the same group tend to be the most reliant on their credit cards; averagely spending £742 per month.

44% of parents say they find themselves concerned about being able to afford their bills every month. This could be accredited to the increase in the cost of living as well as inflation compared to the national average salary of £27,600 – £1,200 less than the national average weekly household spend of £554.20, equating to a yearly figure of £28,818.

Joe Gardiner, Head of Brand and Communications at TotallyMoney, comments, “It’s no secret that the way British people are spending their money has changed over the years. Although outstanding personal loans per household have fallen by 13%, the number of purchases has risen by 25%, which can be accredited to the difference of 4% between how much people are spending yearly and the average national wage.”

“Brits are having to carefully consider what they deem to be important in order to make their income stretch even further. When asked what measures people put in place to assure they rely on your credit cards and/or overdrafts, it was really encouraging to hear the majority of people surveyed replied that they’re actively taking control of their finances by keeping an eye on unnecessary spending and budgeting in advance. ”

Canucks Place Brendan Leipsic On Waivers

By Reid Urban

The Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Brendan Leipsic on waivers today. Leipsic did not play in their most recent game and will most likely be sent to the minors if he clears waivers.

Unfortunately, Leipsic has not made an impact so far this season on head coach Travis Green and the rest of the Canucks coaching staff. He came over from the Vegas Golden Knights last season, but hasn’t put up the numbers they expected out of him. He’s had limited minutes and when he has played, he has only five points to show for it. The move was made in anticipation of Jay Beagle finally coming back into the lineup, while the Canucks also felt that they needed to see some development in Adam Gaudette.

Leipsic could potentially go to another team, as two offensive talents recently swapped teams via waivers. However, there doesn’t seem to be as much interest in Leipsic. If that’s the case, the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the Canucks, could be getting a huge boost in their offensive lineup. Through 188 career regular season AHL games, he has 159 points. However, his last stint in the AHL came during the 2016-17 season. We’ll see if he can turn it around at the AHL, assuming he is not claimed before he clears waivers.

Reebok announces PureMove Bra

Reebok made waves in the sports bra industry today with the unveiling of the Reebok PureMove Bra: a first of its kind, technologically advanced sports bra that uniquely responds and adapts to movement to provide women with a customized amount of control and support, exactly where and when they need it.

For too long, consumer insights have identified frustrated female consumers who feel unsatisfied with their sports bra options, raising flags with alarming stats including one in five women are still avoiding exercise because they don’t have the right sports bra. Determined to change the status quo, Reebok embarked on a journey three years ago with one clear mission: change industry standards for the sports bra and reset the bar.  Now, just over forty years after the first sports bra came to market, Reebok is proud to debut a first of its kind product featuring the brand’s new proprietary Motion Sense Technology.

Reebok’s Motion Sense Technology is the result of treating a performance-based fabric with STF (Sheer Thickening Fluid) – a gel-like solution that takes a liquid form when in a still or slow-moving state and contrastingly stiffens and solidifies when moving at higher velocities.  This fabric technology adapts and responds accordingly to the body’s shape, velocity of breast tissue, and both type and force of movement.  The end result gives wearers a bra that stretches less with high impact movements, while providing the comfort and light support that one would desire during rest and lower intensity activities. To learn more on PureMove’s development click here.

“We could not be prouder to come to market with a product that breaks down barriers in a category that has dissatisfied consumers for far too long, lacking any true technological advancements. Innovation has always been in Reebok’s DNA and placing an emphasis on transforming and improving one of the most important fitness garments for women is no exception,” says Barbara Ebersberger, VP Performance Apparel at Reebok. “The release of PureMove marks the first step of a very exciting new era for us.”

Integral in PureMove’s three-year development process, was Reebok’s work in the lab, testing breast movement and product variations with the University of Delaware.  Here, the two joined forces and upped the ante on industry standards for breast biomechanics that would inform both PureMove’s final design and Reebok’s full sports bra collections for FW18 and beyond.  Until now, industry standards for breast biomechanics testing typically included an average of only two to four motion sensors on the chest area to track bounce and support, but Reebok and the University of Delaware utilized 54 unique motion sensors on this area during its rigorous testing process and used this data to ensure every detail was covered and accounted for in PureMove’s development.

The end result is a second-skin like design that creates a barely-there feel.  Key performance features of the PureMove Bra in addition to the reactive fabric technology include:

  • Breathable Perforations: Perforations in front and back to keep you cool and comfortable, no matter the physical activity.
  • Natural Shaping: Molded front panel and free cut edges for a minimalistic, second-skin fit so you can move freely without distractions.
  • Minimalist Construction: Comprised of only 7 unique pieces of fabric that mold to the body for a seamless fit.

“Many would assume that the more support a sports bra gives would equate to the more fabric, straps or hooks it’s comprised of.  However, by utilizing our Motion Sense Technology, PureMove’s design is quite deliberately the opposite,” says Danielle Witek, Senior Innovation Apparel Designer at Reebok. “The minimalist design of the bra may seem deceiving when you first hold it, but you should not confuse this for lack of support or technology. Every single detail is intentional and directly informed by years of our testing and research.”

At launch, the PureMove Bra will be available in an extended range of 10 unique sizes, aimed to specifically address consumer feedback around the industry’s lack of solutions for those who find themselves in between standard sports bra sizing,  The PureMove Bra debut size range includes: XS, XS/S, S, S/M, M, M/L, L, L/XL, XL, XL/XXL, designed to help ensure a more tailored fit for wearers.

To celebrate one of Reebok’s most anticipated product launches in 2018, the PureMove Bra is brought to life through powerful campaign imagery featuring a team of Reebok’s most formidable female partners including Gal Gadot, Gigi Hadid and Nathalie Emmanuel.

The Reebok PureMove Bra will be available exclusively on Reebok.com starting August 17th for $60. Followed by worldwide-distribution in key retailers starting August 30th.  Additional sports bras from Reebok’s FW18 Hero Bra collection are available today at Reebok.com/HeroBraCollection.

Stefan James “Nights Like” EP

Today, rising R&B/Soul vocalist, songwriter and producer STEFAN JAMES unveils his debut EP, Nights Like.

Get it HERE via Republic Records!

Nights Like follows the release of his debut single, “Situation.” The video premiered exclusively via COMPLEX. The EP also features three additional tracks, “Temptation,” “God Damn” and “He’ll Never Know.” Beyond “Situation,” the singer’s mesmerizing falsetto powers the likes of “God Damn” and the sultry “He’ll Never Know.” A tryst between soul and alternative, STEFAN’s emotive delivery and confessional lyricism bring honesty and heart to R&B.

Of the EP, STEFAN says, “The EP is about nights without self-control, loving the moment and then hating myself after. The songs were inspired by the internal struggle of leaving one addiction for another. Searching for the poison that makes the antidote.”

21-year-old STEFAN JAMES’ music and lyrics pull from a life marred by tragic events, including battles with addiction and substance abuse, as well as the tragic loss of his older brother. Stefan turned to music to lead him on his road to recovery. Creating music enabled him to share this pain productively and poetically. “I’ve been there,” Stefan says, speaking to all who are dealing with depression, loss or addiction. “When you’re feeling down, just put a couple of my songs on and cry or smile. Whatever you have to do to get through that moment. You’re not alone.”

You Are What You Eat

The old saying goes “you are what you eat,” and though it is often used in more figurative contexts, it can also be taken literally. What you eat will directly impact your health, your mood, your energy levels, and of course, even how you look. Eat too many foods that are high in saturated fats and sugar, for example, and you can probably expect an expanding waistline and even a series of breakouts on your skin.

Eat healthy, on the other hand, and you improve your day-to-day life and better your long-term health. Keep your cholesterol down, for example, and you reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. The best part is that eating healthier does not mean you have to sacrifice on taste. Instead, you only need to follow this guide.

Brush Up On Nutrition Basics

It is hard to make any sort of right decision about your body or lifestyle when you don’t have the facts to back you up. What you will need specifically might also be different from the most common pieces of advice out there. Some people have certain vitamin deficiencies, for example, which will often need to be diagnosed by your doctor.

Clear Out Unhealthy Temptations

Once you know, for example, which vitamins boost energy (iron) and which ones can help lower stress or help you feel stronger, you can then work on choosing better when it comes to food. If you have unhealthy temptations at home, however, sticking with your healthy choices can be hard. Clear out temptations so that you can stay on track.

Make a Game Plan

Healthy eating is great for everyone, but if your goal is to, for example, lose weight you will need to make a game plan that also includes rigorous exercise. Of course, everyone should exercise more often, but if you have a specific goal about how you want your body to look, you will need to be more strategic with your efforts. Whatever your goal, know how to get there and plan for it so you can actually see the results you want.

How to Start Cooking More Often

The best way to get excited about cooking is to actually enjoy the outcome. So go online and find many tasty and healthy recipes that the whole family will enjoy, like these delicious ground pork carnitas. Never let your own imagination let you down and learn how to cook a variety of items so that you not only know what you want to eat but are excited about the result. Then try prepping meals in advance so that you can reduce the amount of prep time, inviting friends and family over, and generally just try to make the experience itself more fun.

Whether you are cooking for yourself or for your family, working on improving their diets and building great habits is important. Start today, because it doesn’t matter if you start your healthy-eating journey at age one, age twenty, or age fifty. The sooner, the better, of course, but never consider it to be too late to improve your diet.
