Issue #002 Coming December 15

ft. Smashing Pumpkins / Hole Photo Diary, A Look Into David Berman’s Final Days, A Creedence Clearwater Revival CIA Scandal, The Winklevoss Twins & More

Early Black Friday Sale Starts Today With 25% Off Annual Subscriptions

Today, the iconic and newly reborn CREEM revealed the cover art and the table of contents for its second issue since the magazine’s audacious relaunch earlier this year. Inspired by the punk zines of yesteryear, CREEM’s new cover and limited edition apparel capsule are designed by visionary artist Jeremy Deanbest known for his “Wonders of Black Flag” tees mashing up Grateful Dead & Black Flag iconography, alongside working with The Rolling Stones, Circle JerksCeremony & more.

“I think that my love for zines and that sort of photocopied and degraded look was really interesting to me, and I try to pay tribute in my work,” Dean explains. “We live in a world where everyone has a professional camera in their pocket, not to mention software like Photoshop. I like when photos are a little blurry, when someone’s art is imperfect, messy, and even a little fucked up.”

The Winter 2022 issue will hit subscribers’ mailboxes and online December 15, just in time for the holidays. Customers can now enjoy an unprecedented 25% off an annual print subscription to CREEM, as part of an early Black Friday sale running through November 27 – Subscribe here.

Readers can also pre-order items from the related limited edition capsule, featuring four shirts and two art prints with original designs by Dean, exclusive to CREEM.

Get an early taste for the issue with a feature by Michael Friedrich that pointedly connects the cultural dots from Henry Rollins to Joe Rogan, released today at CREEM.com, available to those who subscribe or sign up for a 30-day free trial, along with the entire CREEM archive.

Included in the Winter 2022 issue will also be Melissa Auf der Maur‘s never-before-seen Smashing Pumpkins & Hole photo diary, a Creedence Clearwater Revival CIA scandal, an insider account of the last days with David Bermana feature by Sam McPheeters on billionaire CEOs like the Winklevoss twins “purchasing” rock-star status and more.

One of the most unlikely and successful media launches of the year, CREEM debuted its first magazine issue since 1989 in September, along with the CREEM Archive featuring every issue from the magazine’s original 20 year run. Vanity Fair revealed the first print cover for the new oversized subscription-only premium quarterly, featuring original art by the legendary Raymond Pettibon (responsible for Sonic Youth’s Goo album cover & others), along with stories on The Who, Terry AllenSpecial Interest & KeiyaA, a reassessment of The Osmonds’ metal album and revival of their Stars Cars column with Slash.

Founded in 1969 Detroit, CREEM grew from underground paper to national powerhouse – an essential source of music journalism for twenty years. It reflected and shaped the culture, cultivating some of the most legendary writing talent of the era: Lester Bangs, Cameron Crowe, Patti Smith, Robert Christgau and Jaan Uhelszki, who now returns as editor. The magazine’s original rise and fall is chronicled in the critically-acclaimed 2020 documentary CREEM: America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine, which earned praise everywhere from The New York Times to CBS This Morning.

Today, CREEM Entertainment is led by former VICE publisher John Martin as CEO, alongside Chairman JJ Kramer (son of original CREEM co-founder & publisher Barry Kramer). In addition to Uhelszki, the new CREEM editorial staff includes VP of Content Fred Pessaro formerly of VICE’s NoiseyExecutive Editor Dan Morrissey from Entertainment Weeklyand Senior Editor Maria Shermanfollowing her work at NPR, Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, Jezebel, Netflix, ELLE and her critically acclaimed book, LARGER THAN LIFE: A History of Boy Bands. Editorial Director Dave Carnie has worked with Jackass, ESPN, Big Brother, and PenthouseGrace Scott joins as Associate Editor after her work with VICE & The Toronto Star, and Zachary Lipez as Editor at Large, following his work with Pitchfork, The Washington Post and others. QUINN XCII – THE PEOPLE’S CHAMP

QUINN XCII ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM THE PEOPLE’S CHAMP OUT JANUARY 27

PRE-ORDER THE PHYSICAL ALBUM HERE

Hot off the heels of his latest single “Common” feat. Big Sean, today Platinum-Certified singer and songwriter Quinn XCII reveals his upcoming fifth studio album The People’s Champ will be released on January 27th. Watch the album trailer HERE.

Quinn XCII says, “I’m so excited to officially enter this new era – the music, the live show, everything we are working on and have to share with you. There is a lot coming, and I appreciate you all being patient with me.”

Stay tuned for Quinn XCII’s next single from the album, set for release on December 2nd.

ABOUT QUINN XCII

Quinn XCII (pronounced Quinn Ninety-Two) is the kind of person you root for. He’s a very grateful husband and an endlessly loyal friend. He goes through shitty days and good days (just like the rest of us do), but he writes about them both in his music without filter or pretense. Despite “making it” (he hates that turn-of-phrase, by the way!), he doesn’t put himself on a pedestal whatsoever. Rather, he acts, speaks, and sings with the approachability of the guy who just gave you his spot in the checkout line or waited for the next elevator. Back in 2015, Quinn XCII emerged with a disarmingly catchy and dynamic personal style of his own punctuated by alternative nuances and unexpected (yet undeniable) pop prowess. Obie Awards

Are you a theater enthusiast, an experienced playwright, or a talented performer looking for recognition?

The Obie Awards is the perfect stage for both novice and seasoned artists. Thanks to a collaboration between The Village Voice and the American Theatre Wing, the Obie Awards celebrate the highest calibre of off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway theater to honor progressive work, support groundbreaking ideas and advance theatrical careers. The event is held every year in New York City, and prizes are given out for outstanding acting and performance, design/music, direction, playwriting, and special citations. Obie accepts applications from competent individuals regardless of where they live. The awards are given to encourage and recognize original performances, as well as to nurture and grow talents. The Obie Awards have given recognition to some of the most well-known playwrights and artists, such as Heidi Schreck, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Benj Pasek. For many years, the Obie awards were thought to be reserved for formal presentations. However, the awards were made informal to provide limitless opportunities for individuals worthy of recognition.

Most Obie Award winners received training at the actor’s studio, through moderated sessions, workshops, and readings. The Actor’s Studio is an important platform to foster creativity. It is an NGO whose members have been influential in many American theaters since World War II. It is one of the best training facilities for the Stanislavsky Method of Acting. The Method, developed by the organization’s founding artistic director Lee Strasberg, is a set of methods and exercises that revolutionized acting across the globe. Artists are encouraged to use their memory and emotional experience to prepare for a significant role. The place offers a conducive environment where actors collaborate without the pressure of commercial agents. Professional actors, directors, and playwrights can improve their craft and discover the range and depth of their talent with the aid of The Actors Studio.

The 66th Annual Obie Awards will take place in November 2022. The 2022 awards will be co-chaired by Obie-winning Director and Producing Artistic Leader David Mendizábal and veteran theatre critic Melissa Rose Bernardo. The judges’ panel includes actor & fight choreographer Dave Anzuelo, actor & playwright Becca Blackwell, scenic designer Wilson Chin, Obie-winning playwright Haruna Lee, theater critic & journalist Soraya McDonald, Obie-winning director & playwright Lisa Peterson, Obie-winning actor Heather Alicia Simms, and Obie-winning costume designer Kaye Voyce.

About Eighty8:

Roots can shape personality. Our lineage informs how we act and how we react to any given situation. Drawing on Jamaican and Haitian heritage, Eighty8 translates emotional extremes into an unpredictable and undeniable hybrid of R&B, hip-hop, pop, and island flavors. Generating nearly 3 million Spotify streams independently, receiving acclaim from Hip Hop DX, Hip Hop N More, On Smash and signing to Cash Money Records in 2020, he’s ready to formally introduce himself. He adopted his name during a period of self-discovery after learning that the number 8 represents a sense of power and exemplifies peace and unity.

Born and raised on the North Side of Miami, at three-years-old, he realized he could sing and spent hours replaying an old Michael Jackson VHS as he obsessively studied the King of Pop. Throughout middle school, he sang to girls in the hallway and shutdown the stage with show-stopping performances at pep rallies and talent shows. As a teen, he joined the R&B group 4th and Ocean, recording music for Warner Bros. Records. Following the group’s split, he caught the attention of Balistic Beats and dropped the single “Pree.”The music made its way to Cash Money Records and Eighty8 was signed to the roster in 2020.

ABOUT DADDY YANKEE

As a culture creator, game changer, agent of change, and groundbreaker, Daddy Yankee has consistently inspired, impacted, and influenced generations of creators. An indisputable icon, he remains one of the most influential artists of all time, bringing reggaeton worldwide for the first time. Latin music and culture would not look, sound, or feel the same without him. It’s hard to even imagine the genre itself without “Gasolina,” “Despacito” [with Luis Fonsi], or “Con Calma” [with Snow], and more.

Since 1995, he has consistently conquered charts, toppled records, and made history on his own terms. The magnitude of his accolades proves nearly impossible to match or exceed. Living up to the title of “King of Reggaeton,” he has moved north of 30 million records as “one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all-time.” Out of hundreds of awards, he has scored five Latin GRAMMY® Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards, two Latin American Music Awards (including the Icon Award), eight Lo Nuestro Awards, an MTV VMA, and six ASCAP Awards in addition to earning a spot on the Puerto Rican Walk of Fame and the“Presencia Latina” at Harvard University. He also stands out as “the only Latin Artist with four Spanish-language entries on the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.” He received “Songwriter of the Year” three times at the 2021 ASCAP Latin Music Awards and distinguished himself as “the first urban Latino artist to enter the Billboard Hall of Fame.”

Most importantly, he runs and leads his charity “Daddy’s House,” which Billboard commended with the Spirit of Hope Award.

After changing the face of Latin music forever, he leaves on the highest note possible in 2022 with his twelfth full-length offering and final album, LEGENDADDY, brought to life with his farewell tour, LA ÚLTIMA VUELTA (The Last Round). The album combines the essence of Reggaeton with salsa, dancehall, rap, trap bachata, EDM, and Caribbean music like never before.

The album has arrived as a cultural milestone in its own right. Stretching past the eight-minute mark, the title track “GOD DID” [feat. Rick RossLil WayneJAY-ZJohn Legend, & Fridayy] has sparked an important conversation. As part of a special report for MSNBC, Ari Melber host of The Beat broke down JAY-Z’s four-minute verse as a cogent and cohesive analysis on the failures of the prolonged generational drug war framed through the icon’s own journey embodied in the rhyme, “cocaína into champagne. However, it didn’t stop there. KhaledJAY-Z, Melber, and journalist Rob Markman engaged in this discourse publicly on Twitter SpacesJAY-Z went one step further and uploaded Melber’s initial report as “HOV DID” on all streaming platforms. Rolling Stone and People have chronicled this chain of events, and the conversation continues. However, it all started on “GOD DID.

Meanwhile, “Use This Gospel (Remix) [feat. Kanye WestEmimen (prod. by Dr. Dre The ICU)] bowed at #1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs Chart and Hot Christian Songs Chart—Khaled’s first #1 entries on the respective charts. Additionally, he notched 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including “God Did” at #17, “Staying Alive,” which is now RIAA Certified Gold, at #21 (Greatest Gainer/Streaming), “Beautiful” at #29, “Big Time” at #31, “Use This Gospel (Remix)”at #49, “Juice WRLD Did” at #55, “Keep Going” at #57 “Party” at #66, “It Ain’t Safe” at #77 “No Secret” at #78 and “Let’s Pray” at #86.

Beyond posting up over 800 million cumulative streams and views, GOD DID finds Khaled everywhere. GQ spoke to him as part of an in-depth profile and proclaimed, “Sixteen years after his star-studded debut, 2006’s Listennn… the Album, many of its same guests showed up for God Did, and getting these now-giants to answer the call today is even more of an impressive feat.” Meanwhile, Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller of Rap Radar chatted with him for an all-encompassing podcast. Plus, he took the stage at the MTV VMA to present the award for “Best Collaboration” to Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow for Industry Baby.

He celebrated the rollout with an unprecedented deluge of videos, including, “Big Time” [feat. Future Lil Baby], “It Ain’t Safe”[feat. Nardo Wick & Kodak Black],“Party All The Time”[feat. Quavo Takeoff], “These Streets Know My Name”[feat. SkillibengBuju BantonCapletonBounty Killer, & Sizzla], “Keep Going” [feat. Lil Durk21 Savage, & Roddy Ricch], “Beautiful” [feat. SZA Future],  “Way Past Luck” [feat. 21 Savage], and “Jadakiss Interlude” [feat. Jadakiss].
