Assembly Bill 3080 Is Bad for Jobs

Three years ago Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed legislation on employment arbitration, saying he wanted to wait for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the issue. Now the Supreme Court has spoken: Businesses can ask employees to sign arbitration agreements to settle employment disputes instead of going through costly and lengthy litigation. So it’s time for the governor to follow through with another veto.

Any attempt to contradict the recent Supreme Court ruling allowing arbitration in employment contracts, as proposed in Assembly Bill 3080 by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, would, as you have warned in the past when you vetoed similar legislation, “result in years of costly litigation and legal uncertainty.” What we can guarantee is that signing this bad bill would certainly add to an already unstable and hostile environment for California employers and forcing a burden on them that does not exist in other states.

Under AB 3080, California businesses, especially in cases involving disputes over alleged sexual harassment or misconduct, would be victimized. Not only would businesses and employers face civil liabilities for any violations of AB 3080, but they could also face criminal charges as well.

Business owners must be able to operate in an environment that is fair and competitive, not one that is legally stacked against them.

It’s clear that as written, AB 3080 could be greatly misused and serve to help trial attorneys, not workers. It creates an environment where lawyers can troll for unsuspecting employees willing to sue their bosses, under the auspices of a large payday. The number of civil claims that could then result from this law would overwhelm the state’s judiciary system by, in effect, forcing all claims to be tried by a judge and jury.

Swatch Fall-Winter 2018 Collection

Telling stories of an ancient past and a faraway future and proving that reinvention is the best form of innovation while triggering both imagination and senses is the essence of Swatch’s latest Fall-Winter collection. The three different themes link urban trends with local handcraft, bright colors with simple designs and understated style with statement pieces, adding up to a powerful selection that proves to be as playful, colorful and joyful as ever.

In an ever-connected world, distance is shortened to a tap-away. The world is your neighborhood, a phenomenon that Worldhood puts on the wrist in many different ways inspirations from all over the globe have found their place in this collection, where fantasy becomes reality, well-known ideas mix with new states of mind, and art is in cahoots with handcraft. World-famous museums have opened their archives and paved the way for a swatchy recreation of historical art pieces; seem-to-be knitted watches make a contemporary wink to one’s own heritage; black-and-white models focus on the raw and substantial design, adding the story of the brand and sophisticated brushing techniques.

More color, more fun, more fantasy. Think Fun fully embraces the DNA of Swatch, where colors, shapes and stripes explode into vibrant designs. Bold styles go well with simplistic geometries; precious Swarovski stones set a glamorous tone on discreet-colored watches; pins and patches meet and mingle on denim looks. The red carpet is rolled out for Deep Wonder that makes colors shine with intensity and shades glitter into the night. Lavish colors mix with premium and alcantara materials, and sparkling crystals. It’s time to shine!

Billy Los Angeles

Billy Los Angeles Season 003 – Spring/Summer 2019.

Primed with nostalgic influence, the brand embraces designer Jovenall’s memories from Pittsburgh’s rural outskirts and introduces denim for the first time.

New York, NY: Billy Los Angeles’ SEASON 003 is a conversation between designer Holly Jovenall’s parallel lives: one growing up in a rural town outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the other growing into a successful stylist immersed in Los Angeles culture.

SEASON 001 and SEASON 002 established the visual language of these worlds through collections. SEASON 003 explores what eventually led Jovenall from her rural upbringing to her life in Los Angeles. With nostalgia for the transitional and an eye towards the future, SEASON 003 embodies the DIY attitude and style of Jovenall’s childhood contemporaries. These young men fostered their own individual and authentic look using what was available to them locally with echoes of faraway streetwear and hip hop influences. From skateparks on the outskirts of Pittsburgh to the plaid work shirts her father, BILLY, would buy from the farm store, Jovenall’s influences come from the pieces that were simply part of her way of life.

When approaching this season, I found a lot of inspiration from archival photographs that myself and my sister had taken throughout our youth, in our hometown of Transfer, Pennsylvania. References to what I can only describe as a fusion of hip hop culture with Midwest accessibility – this is the vibe I’ve tried to communicate,” Jovenall says.

Graphics from SEASON 003 come from photographers of her father (BILLY), her nephew (Noah) and her horse (Pistol) at horse shows and around the ranch taken by Jovenall and her sister (Marissa). Each piece in the collection is lovingly updated from clothing that her friends, family, and she herself wore in those formative years – such as the rugby shirt – work pants and jacket. As always, the washes and attention to detail are what set BILLY apart. The sun faded vintage affect on the T-shirts to the distressing of the work pants imbue the collection with subtle minimalism.

SEASON 003 introduces BILLY LOS ANGELES denim, washed and worn (but not over worn) to perfection. BILLY denim represents a timeless uniform, updated and executed with modern lines, relaxed washes and fades. The result is a collection of individual items that coincide perfectly with the mood of modern man’s wardrobe while evoking a sense of longing for a simpler time.

Mondo Cozmo’s ‘Your Motherfucker’ Lyric Video feat. Rose Villain

Just recently, Mondo Cozmo releases “Your Motherfucker” lyric video through Republic Records. The visual features Rose Villain and you can watch it here.

“‘Your Motherfucker’ is the best love song I’ve ever written. Musically, it’s probably the furthest I’ve ever gone out of my comfort zone but maybe that’s why I love it so much. We needed a visual to bring it home, to be as striking as the lyrical content, it was a visual that only Rose could bring. I was honored to have her be a part of this,” says Cozmo.

In support of his recent Your Motherfucker EP, Cozmo will be on tour this fall with The Revivalists. For more information on dates and ticket prices, click here.
