EBIE PAYS TRIBUTE TO FATHER/GANGSTER RAPPER, EAZY-E

In honor of his birthday, Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, daughter Ebie collaborates with famed photographer Mike Miller to recapture similar photos for both daughter and father to share.

In tribute of what would have been Eazy-E’s 53rd Birthday on September 7th, 2017, Ebie states:

“I usually try to do a tribute to my father on his death anniversary but something about his birthday just seemed more fitting this year. I called on none other than Mike Miller who is responsible for shooting some of my dad’s most classic pictures to help me bring my “Eazy-E inspired” vision to life. Mike is phenomenal and I just felt chills imagining how it was on the days he and my father got out in the streets and got creative together. 22 years later and it still hasn’t gotten any Eazier but today is a celebration … Happy Birthday dad!! I know you’re watching over me and I’ll forever continue to be Ruthless.” – Ebie

Having photographed many major-label album covers from various genres, Mike Miller has become a famed photographer/director. He has worked with various other musical acts including Tupac, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, YG and Eazy-E, and is currently working with Ferrari and collaborating withRetna, Shepard Fairey. A number of Mikeߣs previous clients include&#a0;Angelina Jolie, Jack Nicholson, Cameron Diaz, James Franco, Sony, Nicole Richie, Nike, Puma, MTV Video Awards, Coca~Cola, and Stussy.

unnamed (4)Mike Miller has recently made headlines after allegedly suing The Kardashian Clan: Kylie and Kendall Jenner for the use his photos of Tupac Shakur without his permission.

Mike recently collaborated with Ebie to create an “Eazy-E” inspired photoshoot to pay tribute to the rapper’s birthday. While working with Ebie, Mike shared:

“Wow… Ebie is just awesome. Being a DJ and photographing musicians for 30 years her dad was one of my all-time favorite people to shoot as well as one of my all time favorite rappers. I felt an immediate connection with Ebie, having daughters of my own saddens me that he’s not around to see his grow. We had a blast…. Happy Birthday Eazy.”

In Mike Miller’s book “West Coast Hip-Hop: A History in Pictures”, Mike shared what it was like working with the legendary rapper:

“I consider myself very fortunate to have photographed Eazy, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Ren , Yella and Arabian Prince. First time “The Source Magazine” asked me to head out to a Culver City recording studio to shoot NWA. Eazy greeted me and showed me around the studio. Gold and platinum records lined the walls. Eazy played me tracks off the new Album, outing the final touches before it was release. I shot some cool solo images of Eazy outside. There was a giant American Flag blowing in the wind and I photographed him in the afternoon sunlight. Another shoot for Eazy was at Ruthless Records. While waiting for Eazy to arrive I pulled out my skateboard and began skating in the parking lot. Eazy pulled up in his new BMW. He grabbed a deck out of his trunk. The artwork was my friend Natas signature board. We talked skateboarding for a bit, he was really into it. Since I grew up skateboarding and liking NWA, I was stoked. Then we did some photos with his car. It seemed a little boring so I added color filters over my lens. We talked about his new projects and planned some upcoming photo shoots.”

AMAZON CUTS WHOLE FOODS PRICES

Amazon.com Inc. spent its first day as the owner of a brick-and-mortar grocery chain cutting prices at Whole Foods Market as much as 43 percent.

In a sign of how the retailer is changing, the Amazon Echo, a voice-activated electronic assistant, was also for sale, for $99.99 — a sharp pivot into electronics for a company known for kale and quinoa. The Echo Dot, a smaller version, was advertised for $44.99.

The tech giant’s $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods has sent shock waves through the already changing $800 billion supermarket industry. The wedding between Amazon and the upscale grocery promises to upend the way customers shop for groceries. Cutting prices at the chain with such an entrenched reputation for high cost that its nickname is Whole Paycheck is a sign that Amazon is serious about taking on competitors such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Kroger Co. and Costco Wholesale Corp.

“Price was the largest barrier to Whole Foods’ customers,” said Mark Baum, a senior vice president at the Food Marketing Institute, an industry group. “Amazon has demonstrated that it is willing to invest to dominate the categories that it decides to compete in. Food retailers of all sizes need to look really hard at their pricing strategies, and maybe find some funding sources to build a war chest.”

How Amazon’s Price Cuts May Not Solve Whole Foods’ Problems: Gadfly

At the store on East 57th Street in Manhattan, organic fuji apples were marked down to $1.99 a pound from $3.49 a pound; organic avocados went to $1.99 each from $2.79; organic rotisserie chicken fell to $9.99 each from $13.99, and the price of some bananas was slashed to 49 cents per pound from 79 cents. The marked-down items had orange signs reading “Whole Foods + Amazon.” The signs listed the old price, the new price and “More to come.”

(Featured Image) Organic Rotisserie Chicken cuts its price!

Discounts were comparable at other Whole Foods stores in San Francisco and Seattle. Amazon declined to comment.

In the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, Catherine Oshiro, a 33-year-old product designer, said lower prices may make her change her shopping routine.

“I usually buy my staples like toilet paper and paper towels at Target and Safeway,” Oshiro said. “If I see the lower prices at Whole Foods, I would start buying those basics here.”

Katie Bennett, 24, was one of many customers who said she hoped Amazon would offer delivery of Whole Foods items. She picked out a rotisserie-cooked half chicken for lunch at the New York store.

“Last time I came in, I was thinking about getting the rotisserie chicken, but it was too expensive,” she said.

Some rivals have already reacted to the kickoff of what could become a new era of selling food in the U.S.

Wal-Mart, the world’s biggest retailer, has already invested billions into lowering prices across the board over the past year or so, and has revamped the produce section at its U.S stores, improving sight lines, adding more fresh-cut fruits and even creating a sweeter bespoke cantaloupe. That, along with an aggressive rollout of curbside grocery order pickup, helped the company record its best food sales growth in five years in its most recent quarter.

Costco, meanwhile, has a full slate of organic items that are priced about 30 percent cheaper than the same products at Whole Foods, according to Sanford Bernstein. It’s able to price lower thanks to a business model that charges membership fees, focuses on selling a limited assortment of bulk-sized goods and features a treasure-hunt experience in the stores.

GRETA CONSTANTINE SS18 PRESENTATION

On September 6, the GRETA CONSTANTINE SS18 NYFW PRESENTATION, took place. The presentation featured Greta Constantine’s  KIRK PICKERSGILL and STEPHEN WONG joined by TAMI WILLIAMS, FRANCESCA CURRAN, NAKI DEPASS, and more The show, celebrated 10 years of their womenswear label Greta Constantine with a Canadian-Girl-Gang invasion of New York Fashion Week.

Many looks were present among them,  an Orange silk tulle FAUSTINO dress with chain strap detail, Multi-colour asymmetrical sequin MARSHALL jacket, Black silk tulle DANIELE crinoline; and a Blue sequin TRIXIE bolero with black silk wool trim detail, Green silk tulle FAUSTINO dress with tube style straps, Black silk tulle DANIELE crinoline.

ABOUT GRETA CONSTANTINE

CAFA 2016 Womenswear Designer of the Year winner Greta Constantine is an accessible luxury line of ready-to-wear womenswear based in Toronto, Canada. Designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong, considered the “jersey boys of Toronto,” have rapidly accumulated a clientele comprised of international socialites and celebrities alike. The label itself is derived from the combination of the name of Stephen’s mother, Greta, with that of Kirk’s grandfather, Constantine. The pair works together in their Toronto area studio — conceptualizing, exploring, and challenging the fashions of today for the women of tomorrow.

The inevitable product of their focus on the female form is design emboldened by sexuality. Yet sexuality and femininity more generally, are socially constructed in a dichotomous manner: ladylike or seductive; prim and pretty or body-skimming and revealing. However, for Pickersgill and Wong, these dichotomies mustn’t be treated as mutually exclusive properties. In the elegantly seductive world of Greta Constantine, it’s not surprising to see a backless top paired with a flared, midi-length skirt or a boxy, ruffle hem sleeveless dress that barely grazes mid-thigh in a shade of salmon, no less. And while the dresses themselves may be constricting to the female form, there’s something truly freeing about wearing a piece that is equal parts matron and vixen. After all, sometimes you just want to be both.

Celebrity fans of Greta Constantine include: TARJI P. HENSON, JESSICA BIEL, KARLIE KLOSS, OLIVIA WILDE, MARY J. BLIGE, RITA ORA, MILEY CYRUS, LANA DEL REY, COCO ROCHA, LEIGH LEZARK, YARA SHAHIDI, MICHELLE MONAGHAN, ALLISON WILLIAMS, ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO, GRACE MAHARY, ERIN MORIARTY, LESLIE MANN, FRIEDA PINTO, TATIANA MASLANY, NICOLE RICHIE, and more. Greta Constantine has graced the pages of British Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Essence, Fashion Magazine, Flare Magazine, Glamour, InStyle, Marie Claire, Maxim Magazine, Us Weekly, WWD, and more…

Need Closure?

By Matt Villard

Here’s the Deal
A large and ongoing debate in the wine industry is what to close the bottle with.  Corks vs Screwcaps is a discussion that fires up everyone from the winemaker, to the marketing and sales personnel, to the retailers, all the way to the final consumer.  Every one of them has an opinion, some backed by science and the others backed by emotion.
The Cork
Corks have been used to seal bottles for hundreds of years.  They are the gold standard of tradition in the world of wine.  Corks breathe well to age the wine and they make a beautiful and romantic “pop” when you open them.  However, corks are fraught with problems.  The biggest one from my point of view is taint, though uncommon it does happen.  Cork taint is caused most often by TCA (2,4,6-trichloroanisole) and results in the wine smelling like cork, cardboard or wet paper.  When you overhear someone sending back a bottle of wine, it’s usually due to the wine being “corked.”  Other issues include storage issues (corks must remain in contact with wine), crumbling when you try to open it or wine leaking up the side of the cork.
The Screwcap
Screwcap closures are relatively new to the industry and people tend to be skeptical of change.  Screwcaps never have taint, they can be stored in any position, they are easy to open and reseal and leakage appears almost immediately rather than after trying to age that wine to perfection.  However, they lack the romanticism of a cork.  The ability to age a wine for a truly long time is still being tested, but the screwcap industry is working to improve options for wineries.
Let’s Be Practical
So, I prefer screwcap closures.  They’re reliable, they’re easy and above all they work.  However, on my own wines I use corks for more expensive bottles and screwcaps for my less expensive, because the vast majority of consumers out there have such a negative opinion of screwcaps.  The market still lies heavily on the cork side, but if you see an expensive bottle of wine closed with a screwcap, don’t be afraid to give it a try.

From Waste to Wave: Jaguar Land Rover Launches Surfboard Made From Recycled Plastic
8 September 2017 (Whitley, UK): For almost 70 years Land Rover has transported people across the world’s toughest terrain, but it is now making its first foray into the ocean with the ‘Waste to Wave’ surfboard, created using recycled plastic derived from early clay design models.
With an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic dumped in oceans every year, taking hundreds of years to decompose, Jaguar Land Rover has strengthened its commitment to achieving its zero waste goal by creating a range of surfboards made wholly from recycled plastic.
The surfboard was created in partnership with SkunkWorks Surf Co, a surf company with a focus on minimising environmental impact, and tested by the English Women’s Open Surfing Champion surfer, Lucy Campbell off the coast of Northern Ireland. It was hand-built to the exact dimensions (5’7 x 18 3/8 x 2 3/16) required by Campbell, who is currently competing on the global circuit. It has carbon fibre rails from the nose and a carbon strip from the tail for additional strength while allowing flex to push through high-intensity manoeuvres.
The surfboard debuts this weekend in London at Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest, a free-to-enter festival exploring the future of mobility. Tech Fest is open from 8 – 10 September at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

Alternate reality, 1 September 2017: Jaguar Land Rover has hired the first of the next generation of electronics and software engineering geniuses following the recent code-breaking recruitment challenge within the Gorillaz app.
Daniel Dunkley, a 23-year-old from Gloucester, UK, is the first successful code-breaker to join Jaguar Land Rover. Daniel left school at 16 and was working as a controls engineer at a local quarry. His coding and software skills are completely self-taught from an early interest in playing computer games at home with his older brother. He starts work on 2 October as a software engineer at Jaguar Land Rover in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Gorillaz and Jaguar Land Rover will continue the search for world-class talent at Jaguar Land Rover’s inaugural Tech Fest event, from 8-10 September at London’s Central Saint Martins art, design and technology college.
Fans interested in a job at Jaguar Land Rover can visit a pop-up Gorillaz garage to try a puzzle testing technical ability, logical thinking and memory. Want to see if you’ve got what it takes? Solve the puzzle and you’ll skip the initial screening of the Jaguar Land Rover recruitment process.
If you can’t make it to Tech Fest, complete the coding challenge on the Gorillaz app and go straight to interview. The code-breaking puzzle tests real-world skills the new generation of software and engineering talent must have. The challenge remains open worldwide.
Noodle, the virtual band’s guitarist and a Jaguar Land Rover ambassador, said: “Think big and do better, my motto. Stop putting those filters on your food and download this app immediately. The first hire has happened, so get involved and win!”
Daniel Dunkley said: “I’m overwhelmed by how much has happened in the last two months. I read about the coding challenge set by Jaguar Land Rover and Gorillaz on BBC News and decided to have a go. We did the interview by Google Chat then I was invited to Gaydon to talk about my new job. It completely blew me away that I didn’t have to fill out any application forms.
“I was thrilled when they offered me a job! My dad drives a Land Rover Defender so I have always been a fan. I can’t believe I may now get to work on the next generation Defender!”
So far, almost 400,000 people have downloaded the Gorillaz app. Of the 41,000 who have taken the challenge, almost 500 cracked the code.
Alex Heslop, Head of Electrical Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Daniel is exactly the kind of person we need. Technology companies like Jaguar Land Rover provide an exciting opportunity for the brightest and best. We want to attract top-notch talent in software, cyber systems, app development and graphics.
“We don’t do ordinary and that means hiring extraordinary people. Jaguar Land Rover makes some of the world’s most exciting cars and it needs brilliant people to create them.”
In the spirit of collaborative innovation, Jaguar Land Rover has invited an array of speakers to take part in a series of debates and talks throughout Tech Fest, attended by an audience of global influencers and journalists from four continents. Topics will include the future of diesel, electrification, women in industry and robotics, debated by a range of global industry and consumer experts from around the world.
