I ❤️ Beirut

By Justin Lyons

Mika announced Wednesday that his “I ❤️ Beirut” concert, which was live-streamed Sept. 19 on his YouTube channel, raised more than €1 million for the people of Lebanon.

An explosion at a Beirut warehouse on Aug. 4 killed more than 200 and injured more than 5,000.

Ticket sales, sponsors and public donations all contributed to the large sum that will be split between the Lebanese Red Cross and Save the Children.

Tickets were purchased in 120 different countries via Ticketmaster, the most in the ticketing giant’s history. Donations also poured in from 48 different countries via a GoFundMe page.

The show featured megastars like Salma Hayek, Danna Paola, Rufus Wainwright, Kylie, Mashrou Leila, Louane, Etel Adnan, Fanny Ardant and Laura Pausini. It has also picked up interest from major television stations across the world.

Mika joined Georges Kettaneh, the secretary general of the Lebanese Red Cross, and Kevin Watkins, CEO of Save the Children UK, on a video call Wednesday to make the announcement. He thanked everyone who helped the fundraiser cross the €1 million mark.

“I also wanted to say how amazing this statement of solidarity for the situation in Beirut has been, with tickets for the stream selling to over 120 different countries around the world,” Mika said. “This has been a project that was born out of and made possible by love, and a huge amount of collaboration with friends and many new friends made in the process.”

The certified gold and platinum artist was born in Beirut and is now celebrated around the world.

Kettaneh also thanked donors, saying the Lebanese Red Cross would continue to use the funds to support the people of Beirut.

“The people of Beirut face a long road to recovery, with this generosity and the continued support we have received from around the globe, we can continue to stand alongside them for as long we are needed,” Kettaneh said.

Watkins also chimed in to say Save the Children would work to help children and families affected by the explosion.

“All donations will be going toward our emergency response efforts in Lebanon, which include weather proofing damaged homes, supporting vulnerable and displaced families with food and cash grants, and providing ongoing psychological support for children and families,” Watkins said.

Donations can still be made to the campaign’s GoFundMe by clicking right here. The goal of £150,000 has already been passed, and it is closing in on £200,000.

Alessia Cara – This Summer: Live Off The Floor

Grammy Award®-winning singer-songwriter Alessia Cara gives fans around the world an intimate look into her creative process and the live evolution of her deeply personal songs with the release of her new EP, THIS SUMMER: LIVE OFF THE FLOOR, available at all platforms today via Def Jam Recordings. Each song on the live EP will be accompanied by a new music video, shot in the studio where they recorded the EP.

Alessia also recently announced she will be donating her share of net royalties to Save the Children for the next 21 years. She explained her decision further on this Instagram post: “I put out an EP last September and shortly after recorded a live off the floor version, which was set to come out this summer. Then the world flipped upside down, so I decided to donate all my proceeds from this EP for the next 21 years to ‘Save the Children’, a global organization that saves and improves the lives of children who have been denied their rights by ensuring they have shelter, food, protection, healthcare, and education. This includes the 12 million kids currently suffering in Yemen, Indigenous children in Canada, children of colour in vulnerable communities, and anyone who needs help across 117 countries.

Recent events have made it even more evident that we need to uplift and care for the youth as much as possible. There are so many kind, colourful, intelligent, and driven kids who don’t have access to the resources they need in order to become the best future leaders or simply live a life they deserve. We won’t see a better world unless the ones who can one day change it are equipped to fulfill their true potential. Thanks to my team for getting on board, and to the wonderful musicians who played on this record. Hope this will be a bit of light in a (for lack of a descriptive enough term) weird time. Love, Alessia”

THIS SUMMER: LIVE OFF THE FLOOR presents newly recorded live performance versions of all six songs from the original This Summer EP. Recorded in a live floor studio session with a group of masterful players, including lush string arrangements,  LIVE OFF THE FLOOR will include bonus live versions of Alessia’s landmark global hits “Here,” her triple platinum debut single, and “Scars To Your Beautiful,” her double platinum hit. Last year, Alessia thrilled fans touring her headlining show and accompanying Shawn Mendes on his world tour, and her September EP release This Summer chronicled her experiences as only Alessia could: with depth, emotion, introspection, and the wicked wit her fans have grown to love.

Most recently, Alessia performed “Rooting For You” at this year’s Juno Awards where she was the biggest winner of the night taking home Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

April 22nd marked the premiere of the #1 Netflix animated feature The Willoughbys, in which Alessia (in her first voice-over acting role) joined an all-star cast including Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, Sean Cullen, and Ricky Gervais.

2018’s “Best New Artist” Grammy Award Winning Canadian singer/songwriter and Def Jam Recordings artist Alessia Cara emerged onto the music scene in 2015 with her first release, “Here,” a global anthem that grabbed the world’s attention when it garnered over 500,000 streams on Soundcloud in its first week.  “Here” went on to become Spotify’s Most Viral Song of 2015, selling over 3 million copies.  Her five-track EP, Four Pink Walls, soon followed, leading to the release of her RIAA platinum debut album KNOW-IT-ALL (November 2015). Alessia’s multi-platinum #1 hit single of 2016, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” was her gut-wrenching take on female identity, on body image and on deleterious behaviors in the name of beauty.  “Stay” her #1 hit with Zedd sold over 2 million copies and received Song Of The Summer raves. Also in 2016, Alessia lent her voice to “How Far I’ll Go,” penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, official song for Disney’s animated film Moana.  The 4x-platinum “1-800-273- 8255,” her historic collaboration with fellow Def Jam artist Logic, was one of 2017’s landmark singles with over 9 billion streams worldwide, contributing to her being named the most-streamed new female artist of 2017.  “Growing Pains” (June 2018), was the prelude to Alessia’s second album, her critically acclaimed THE PAINS OF GROWING (released in November), which included the follow-up single releases “Trust My Lonely” and “Out Of Love.”

A JUNO award winner for 2016 Breakthrough Artist of the Year in her native Canada, Alessia went on to receive the “Rule Breaker” honor at the Billboard Women in Music annual event.  She won MTV VMAs in 2017 for Best Electronic Dance Video (for “Stay”) and Best Fight Against The System (for her multi-platinum #1 Billboard Pop Song “Scars To Your Beautiful,” which she and Logic performed with Khalid as the climactic moment of that year’s Grammy broadcast).  Alessia also won back-to-back ASCAP Pop Awards for “Stay” and “Scars To Your Beautiful”; along with Dance Song of the Year (for “Stay”) at the iHeart Radio Music Awards. She has earned nominations for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock at the 2017 American Music Awards, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Breakout Artist, the Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, the BET Award for Best New Artist, the BBC Award for Song of The Year, and many other top honors. Most recently, Alessia won Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year at the 2020 Virtual Juno Awards.

BRAVO x SERHANT

BRAVO MEDIA CLOSES THE DEAL IN NEW SERIES “SELL IT LIKE SERHANT” PREMIERING WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11 AT 10PM ET/PT

‘MILLION DOLLAR LISTING’ STAR RYAN SERHANT PUTS HIS SALES SKILLS TO THE ULTIMATE TEST

Bravo Media is stepping up its sales game with top New York City realtor Ryan Serhant in the new docu-series “Sell It Like Serhant,” premiering Wednesday, April 11 at 10pm ET/PT. It doesn’t matter what you’re selling – if you know your client and your product, a good salesperson can sell anything to anyone, and no one exemplifies this better than Ryan Serhant, the leader of one of the top real estate teams in the United States. In this new series, Ryan answers the call of struggling salespeople across multiple industries who are on the brink of losing their jobs and are desperate for his expertise. With some tough love and humor, Ryan will give underperforming employees a head-to-toe business overhaul and turn them into sales machines.

In each episode, Ryan takes a deep dive into each protégé’s world, using every trick in the book to become their bootcamp instructor, friend, teacher and even customer, to help them reach their full potential. Ryan goes all in, often hilariously so, as he learns the ropes of different industries that are somewhat foreign to a “Million Dollar” broker – from learning to sell services in a waxing salon, to learning the world of high stakes hot tub sales, he will push his students, and himself, to the limit. As he tries their products and tests their sales skills, he gets to the root of what’s troubling each salesperson, breaking them down and building them back up with expert knowledge and newfound confidence. Ultimately, employees will be put to the test each week when he or she will showcase their new skills in full view of their bosses and hopefully prove they can “Sell it Like Serhant.”

Meet Ryan Serhant

Ryan Serhant’s first day in the real estate business was on September 15, 2008, the day Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy in the wake of the subprime mortgage collapse. While the real estate sector has slowly recovered, Serhant has become one of the most successful brokers in the world, with agents under his leadership in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami and the Hamptons. Ryan is known to audiences all over the world as one of the stars of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing: New York. Serhant is recognized as a real estate powerhouse. His team at Nest Seekers International sold just under $1B in real estate in 2017 and consistently ranks in the top five real estate teams nationwide in the Wall Street Journal Real Trends annual review, with Serhant consistently the youngest team leader in the top ten. As a real estate expert he is a frequent contributor to CNN, CNBC, The Today Show and Bloomberg TV, and is often quoted in The New York Times, Forbes, and the Wall Street Journal. He is the real estate correspondent for Daily Mail TV, a nationally syndicated television show and he recently launched his own vlog. Serhant is an active supporter of nonprofit organizations including DKMS, Operation Smile, Save the Children, Make a Wish, the Human Rights Campaign, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Pink Agenda and UNICEF, among others. After graduating Hamilton College in 2006 with twin degrees in English literature and theatre, Serhant headed to New York City to pursue an acting career before becoming a successful real estate broker. He currently lives in New York City with his wife Emilia.

“Sell It Like Serhant” is produced by World of Wonder with Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell and Danielle King serving as Executive Producers along with Ryan Serhant and Rob Bola as Co-Executive Producers.

AIDCOIN

AidCoin is empowered by CharityStars, a leading fundraising platform in the nonprofit sector. CharityStars has been providing innovative solutions to fundraising and donations since 2013 and are now trailblazing the sector by incorporating AidCoin, which will see the introduction of a suite of transparency solutions through blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. This innovative advance comes at a crucial time when moral is low within the sector and marks CharityStars as outliers leading the future of the sector.

Many experts believe that blockchain technology has the potential to restore confidence and public trust in the charity sector, given that trust in charities has fallen to its lowest level since 2005. Public sentiment reveals that over half of the general public are skeptical about donating to charities and donors are increasingly demanding accountability for where their funds are going.

By using blockchain technology to track transactions, cryptocurrencies to transfer funds and smart contracts to ensure donations are spent correctly, CharityStars aims to introduce a new layer of transparency, traceability, enabling a better connection and increased trust between the donor and recipient, which in turn will help charities to raise more money.

Co-founder and CEO Francesco Nazari Fusetti has extensive experience in the charity sector and the issues it faces, having conducted high profile auctions and raised millions for charities across the globe. CharityStars have raised over $10M USD to date, for charitable causes such as WWF, Save the Children, The Special Olympics and Unicef

DEMI LOVATO × GLOBAL CITIZEN

Demi Lovato announced as Global Citizen Mental Health Ambassador, with a special focus on vulnerable communities

As a part of this partnership, the two have joined forces with SAVE THE CHILDREN to bring the organization’s HEART Program to Iraq which will aim to create lasting change for a number of internally displaced children in the country and the surrounding region

At the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in NYC, multi-platinum recording artist and mental health advocate Demi Lovato announced her partnership with international advocacy organization Global Citizen as an Ambassador, championing mental health with a special focus on vulnerable communities.

In the initial phase of the partnership, Demi Lovato & Global Citizen will support the world’s leading child-focused humanitarian organization Save the Children by funding the expansion of their Healing and Education through the Arts (HEART) program to Iraq.

In an on-stage moment shared with Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children and Global Citizen CEO, Hugh Evans, Lovato said, “I am proud to stand with Global Citizen to call on governments around the world to prioritize mental health as a key agenda. Ending the stigma around mental health conditions and supporting internally displaced children to build physical and mental resilience through education and access to justice is not a choice, it needs to happen, and it needs to happen now. By supporting Save the Children’s HEART program in Iraq we can, and will have a life transforming effect for a number of children.”

Through an arts-based approach, Save the Children’s HEART pilot program will support the mental health and psychosocial care of internally displaced children affected by chronic stress now living in Kirkuk and Salah al Din, Iraq.

Since 2014, over 3 million people in Iraq were forced into displacement within their own country due to war and conflict. Recent research by Save the Children shows the pressing need to help heal the emotional distress of children in Iraq deeply scarred by memories of extreme violence.

Save the Children is extremely grateful to partner with Demi Lovato and Global Citizen to bring our HEART program to Iraq for the first time. Displaced children in Iraq are scarred from memories of extreme violence they’ve lived through. Some even suffer from vivid “waking nightmares” or are too traumatized to speak,” said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children at the Global Citizen Festival. “Through drawing, painting, music and other art forms, children can creatively express how they are feeling in a safe place and start on the road to recovery. The HEART program will allow them to process their grief, begin the healing process and rebuild their self-confidence and trust in others. After enduring such darkness, displaced children in Iraq will now be offered a glimmer of hope and a chance for brighter future,” said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children.”

Demi first partnered with Global Citizen in 2016 when she performed as a headliner in New York City for the Global Citizen Festival. Since then, she has joined Global Citizen in Mumbai and in Hamburg for the organization’s first Festivals in India and Germany.
