LIIFT4 Effective Strength Training Routine

Top 5 reasons why you need to strength train 2-4 times per week. By Beachbody Super Trainer and Creator of LIIFT4, Joel Freeman.

1. Effective Fat Loss: Weight training increases your body’s caloric burn during and after every session due to increased post exercise oxygen consumption. A cardio workout alone does not have this same effect. Strength training will also offset the negative outcomes that caloric restriction induces by telling your body to preserve and build muscle, preventing or reducing metabolic decline.

2. Muscle mass IS your metabolism—the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn at rest. After the age of 30, physically inactive people can lose 3-8% of their muscle mass each decade and can even increase after the age of 60! This results in a reduced metabolism, which makes it much easier to gain weight and result in limited physical ability to participate in daily activities like carrying grocery bags, cleaning the house, climbing a stair case, etc. Lifting weights is the most effective way to help our bodies preserve and build muscle as we age.

3. Carves Sexy Curves: Lifting maintains and builds new muscle that will help create an aesthetically pleasing hourglass shape: round shoulders, tight waist, and defined legs, perky rear, etc. While most men understand these benefits, women tend to fear becoming “bulky” if they lift weights. Women simply do not have enough natural testosterone to accomplish this. With proper diet, the result will always be sexy, tight curves.

4. Stress Relief & Improved Sleep:  Just 5 minutes of exercise can trigger anti-anxiety responses in the body. Those who regularly strength train tend to manage stress better and experience fewer adverse reactions to stressful situations as those who do not. Since stress is a common cause of sleep issues, reducing stress can also improve your ability to fall asleep faster, sleep deeper and wake less often.

5. Boosts Confidence: If you’re not happy with yourself first, how can you be happy for anyone else? Self-confidence can lead to an overall healthier lifestyle and looking and feeling better is a great start to improve upon yourself, your relationships and work performance.

How to maximize your results in your sessions when you are strength training 2-4 times per week.

1. Weight training with enough intensity and selecting the right weights are essential to maximize the results. Lift 5 more pounds if your last set wasn’t challenging enough. It should be challenging! Progressive overload will keep your muscles engaged and advancing past plateaus. You are challenging your muscles, so they can grow and get stronger all while burning the maximum number of calories every workout.

2. Eat enough protein. Protein is the building block of muscle, and if you’re not getting enough your body can’t repair and build the muscle you’re asking it to after a strength training session. Try eating 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound you weigh every day.  Select high quality proteins like lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, beans, nuts & seeds, and even tofu. If you have a difficult time consuming enough protein from foods, add a protein shake as a snack or right after your weight training session.

3. Try to get 8 hours of sleep.  Sleep is one of the times your body produces the most growth hormone, therefore the more sleep you get the faster your muscles will recover and build from weight training exercises.

4. Be consistent! Building muscle takes time. Keep lifting and challenging your muscles and your results will show.

How to find the cheapest car insurance

Car insurance is important mainly because we will never know what may happen in the future. However, shopping for the cheapest car insurance can be quite tricky. That is why it is important to know the basics of getting vehicle insurance in the first place.

Aside from having a clean driving record, older age, and more protection coverage, there are other factors that can affect car insurance costs. Furthermore, here are other tips on finding the most affordable insurance around.

1. Review your current policy every 6 months

With the current insurance market competition going on, there can be a possibility of an increase in rates due to the ongoing demand. On the other hand, some companies may sneakily increase their rates without you noticing it. That is why it is advisable to review your policy every six months to avoid these surprise rate hikes.

2. Pay on time

Paying on times means no penalties and thus no extra charges for you. More so, you can also consider paying your premiums yearly instead of monthly to save up to a hundred dollars.

3. Be on the lookout for discounts and coupons

Some insurance companies offer discounts and coupons, given that you comply with their conditions. More often than not, these can help you save extra dollars and unlock those “secret” deals you may not know all along.

4. Know that the bigger and more expensive your vehicle is, the higher your premium is

If you are looking for more affordable vehicle insurance, you may want to consider choosing or downsizing into a smaller car. On the contrary, it’s less likely you’ll find a cheap car insurance if you have a truck or SUV.

5. Consider using comparison websites

These include reliable websites such as Money Expert that will help you choose the cheapest car insurance around. By comparing cheap car insurance from Money Expert, you can see different quotes from more than 90 policy providers in the country. Niykee Heaton EP “Starting Over”

Niykee Heaton returns with a new, three-song EP, Starting Over (Capitol Records), which – as the title suggests – marks a turning point for the young Chicago-born artist. Recorded with such producers as Charlie Handsome (Post Malone, Mac Miller, Young Thug), the EP’s hypnotic, sophisticated sound is perfectly suited to Niykee’s intimate lyrics. Download /stream Starting Over HERE.

Amid soulful guitar tones and smoldering R&B grooves, the emotional title track/lead single underscores the realization that a fresh start isn’t possible without putting an end to a relationship that’s been one long loop of break-ups and make-ups.

“Most of the time I sing in a sort of growl, but I wanted to make ‘Starting Over’ a full-on power ballad,” says Niykee. “I really pushed the boundaries of what I usually do and sang it in a totally different way.”

In the past, Niykee was quick to accept the blame, as she details in the dreamy slow-burner  “Bad Guy.” “It has been a theme in my life – accepting the role of being the bad guy, just because it makes it easier for other people,” she explains.

While “Bad Guy” unfolds with a heartfelt intensity, laying the song down made Niykee realize that she had finally moved on from that role. Recording the song was so cathartic, she decided to make a last-minute change to the name of the EP, originally titled Bad Guy. By naming it Starting Over, Niykee has marked a new era in her music and life, one that’s defined by true vulnerability and self-love.

She penned her first song at age 5 and soon discovered that music offered an escape from the difficulties she faced in childhood, including bullying at school, being taught to hate herself, abuse and the loss of an older sibling. Not long after teaching herself to play guitar – and giving herself vocal training by singing along to a Diana Ross greatest-hits CD – Niykee began creating her own material and posting covers on YouTube. Her acoustic rendition of Chief Keef’s “Love Sosa” wound up on WorldstarHipHop, and instantly drew interest from a host of record labels.

Niykee made her major label debut with the single “Bad Intentions,” which has since been certified Gold by the RIAA. Migos’ remix of the track appeared on her mixtape, The Bedroom Tour Playlist. Success has not made her immune to adversity, but she’s found a way to cope.

“When I feel like something might break me, it keeps me going to remind myself why I started making music in the first place – just remembering all the girls out there who had tough childhoods, too, and relate to what I’ve been through,” says Niykee. “I want to keep writing songs for those girls, so that they know that someone else understands exactly what they’re feeling.”

Jaden Smith’s “Goku”

Multitalented visionary JADEN SMITH unleashes a brand new single entitled “GOKU” today.

Get it HERE!

Over a barrage of unpredictable electronic production, JADENS flow transitions from hyper-charged verses into the hypnotic and hard-hitting hook, “I feel like I’m GOKU. Named after the hero of Dragonball-Z, the track veers in and out of thick percussion before storming towards this anthemic chant. This brash and bold banger moves at the frenetic breakneck pace of the anime with which it shares its name. If you close your eyes and listen, it’s as cinematic as it is catchy. It’s the perfect follow up to Jaden’s club banger, “GHOST”.

PETE YORN x SCARLETT JOHANSSON

Today, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson share the music video for their latest single “Iguana Bird.” Watch it HERE.

Directed by actress, producer, and filmmaker Bonnie Wright (best known for her role as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter series), the clip serves as the perfect visual companion to the song. “Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson’s new single ‘Iguana Bird’ evoked for me that new loneliness you feel in the wake of a break up, having spent every moment with someone you now have to create new memories that feel forced and out of touch with what you know,” Wright told PAPER about the track. “I was inspired by the dance scene in Jean Luc-Godard’s film ‘Bande å part’, most particularly Anna Karina’s character, and the vulnerable beauty often explored in French cinema during the 60s. I have been an admirer of LA-based choreographer and dancer Nicola Collie for a while and it was such a joy to direct her in this enclosed world we created for the music video.”

“I have been a fan of Bonnie’s work,” Yorn says about working with Wright. “She came to us with a visual concept that really captured the emotion behind the song in an original way.”

The song remains a standout from the pair’s critically acclaimed Apart EP, available at all digital retailers now via Capitol Records. Forbes praised the “fun” track, while High Snobiety called it a “charming duet carried by a wave of crashing guitars.”

Last month, Yorn launched An Evening with Pete Yorn, the You and Me Tour. The critically acclaimed gold-certified singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist performs along the East Coast and Midwest on the intimate run. Tickets for the remaining dates, including limited edition options to purchase VIP backstage experiences where fans can meet Pete, watch soundcheck and even attend a pre-show performance of a song in the dressing room, are on sale now. Full routing can be found below and visit PeteYorn.com for more details.

Apart continues to incite applause from fans and critics alike. In an extensive feature, Entertainment Weekly claimed, “The dreamy alt-pop on the new EP demonstrates that the creative kinship between the troubadour and the movie star is much closer than you might expect.”

Marc E. Bassy Drops “Postmodern Depression”

Bay-area pop/R&B powerhouse Marc E. Bassy returns today with his new five-song EP, Postmodern Depression, which features lead single “Love Her Too” with fellow Bay-area rapper G-Eazy.

Of the song, Bassy says “‘Love Her Too’ was that end of the session jam that turned into a real song—it was me waking the guys up and convincing them this last jam of the day was something special.” He continues, “Postmodern Depression is me battling with culture. It’s about trying to grow up in a scene that glorifies the opposite of what it is to be a wholesome individual. It’s about me always coming back to music and being forever saved by songwriting.”

Singer, songwriter and producer Marc E. Bassy made waves with his critically acclaimed 2016 debut Groovy People EP. Among a tracklisting of hits such as “Morning” and “Dirty Water,” it vaulted “You & Me” [feat. G-Eazy] onto the Billboard Hot 100 as the track generated 260 million-plus Spotify streams and achieved a platinum certification from the RIAA within two years. Hot on its heels, he dropped his first full-length, Gossip Columns, and landed yet another smash in the form of “Plot Twist” featuring Kyle. In the album’s wake, he co-headlined the Bebe & Bassy Tour alongside Bebe Rexha and launched his Gossip Columns Tour, selling out venues coast to coast. Along the way, the artist received widespread praise from Billboard, Complex, Hypebeast, XXL, Hot New Hip Hop, The FADER, Spin and many more. Positioned for pop supremacy with his forthcoming second full-length set for 2019, Bassy’s rise to the top is just beginning.

The WMC Report: #MeToo

A year following revelations in The New York Times about decades of allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein, the #MeToo movement has led to a significant change in the way media covers stories about sexual assault and harassment, a new report from the Women’s Media Center shows.

Overall, the number of articles on sexual assault is up over 30 percent at the end of the study, in August 2018, as compared with the first month the research looked at (before the revived momentum for #MeToo), May 2017. When articles about just #MeToo are added, the total coverage is up 52 percent, according to the report, Media and #MeToo, which was released today.

“The world has permanently changed,” said actor and Weinstein accuser Ashley Judd. “We are in a new era. It is messy, imperfect, and urgent.”

The study found that even stories beyond those about sexual abuse, assault, and harassment—beginning with the Times story in October 2017—have been amplified by the #MeToo movement. After October 2017, media began to more commonly write about issues that particularly pertain to women—such as reproductive health and the wage gap.

“We’ve come a long way since Anita Hill’s courageous testimony in 1991, and it is women who have led the way. It took the explosion of the #MeToo movement to shift and increase coverage of women, sexual assault, and harassment. There’s no going back,” said Maya Harris, co-chair, Women’s Media Center.

The Women’s Media Center research took a close look at the press coverage five months before and in the 10 months that followed the Weinstein revelations and the rise of #MeToo. The report looked at whose stories were covered, what outlets considered sexual assault and harassment important enough to report on, and whether or not the media industry—and American culture as a whole—has changed as a result of the movement.

“In an era in which women are insisting that their stories of sexualized violence be heard—and believed—the media has a critical role to play in helping shift our culture, by credibly presenting accusations, doing its own investigations, and explaining the context in which an alleged attack occurred,” said Lauren Wolfe, director of the WMC Women Under Siege Project and co-author of this report. “It is beyond time that the media treat women survivors with the respect they deserve.”

By breaking down how coverage of sexual assault in various arenas of American life waxed and waned (specifically, the report looked at the church (instances of clergy abuse within and beyond the Catholic Church), Hollywood, media, and politics), the Women’s Media Center was able to clarify which institutions took precedence in the press. By looking at the gender of bylines on sexual assault/#MeToo articles, it found a surprising shift in who is writing stories on sexual assault and harassment. Examining the words most used in headlines for stories on each institution the report focused on (and, separately, for Trump and Weinstein) gave the researchers an idea of how media framed these stories.

“This has been a year when the media and truth itself are under siege,” said Julie Burton, president of the Women’s Media Center. “With #MeToo exposing horrible individual and institutional practices, we see an opportunity for a new transparency and permanent changes aimed at greater equality and power for women.”

“Naming sexualized violence makes it visible and subject to prosecution,” said Gloria Steinem, co-founder of the Women’s Media Center. “In the past, what happened to men was political, but what happened to women was cultural. The first was public and could be changed, and the second was private, off limits, even sacred. By making clear that sexualized violence is political and public, it breaches that wall. It admits that sexualized violence can be changed.”

The Women’s Media Center Media and #MeToo research was produced by the Media Lab at the Women’s Media Center and conducted by Eliza Ennis, media analyst and data manager of the lab. Eliza Ennis is also the co-author of this report.

The Women’s Media Center analyzed the content of headlines, bylines, and articles on 15,228 pieces of news produced from May 1, 2017, through August 31, 2018. The survey consisted of 14 of the nation’s most widely circulated newspapers. They are: Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Newsday (N.Y.), Tampa Bay Times, The Arizona Republic, The Columbus Dispatch, The Denver Post, The Houston Chronicle, The Mercury News (Calif.), The New York Times, The Seattle Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today.
