How to Lower Your Cholesterol Naturally

Cholesterol is discussed so frequently, and sometimes flippantly, it has become somewhat of a medical buzzword. To some, it may seem like a nonconsequential item and for others it is one of bigger deals floated across their plate. The reality is that cholesterol is worth both understanding and managing well in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Like with anything involving the world of science and medicine, there is always more than what meets the eye. For example, with cholesterol, there are actually good and bad kinds of it. A fact like this makes it immediately apparent that taking the time to educate oneself on the ins and outs of the fat within human blood is wise. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, put it best, “The human body is the most complex system ever created. The more we learn about it, the more appreciation we have about what a rich system it is.”

There are more than a few ways of lower said bad cholesterol naturally. In order to gain insight on these practices, we spoke with people who have experience doing so.

Dietary Changes

Chris Vaughn is the CEO of Emjay, a brand offering the delivery of marijuana products. He suggests making some adjustments to the types of food consumed regularly.

“The long and short of it is the food digested by the stomach winds up in the bloodstream. Seeing as an overabundance of fat, or cholesterol, in the bloodstream poses a litany of issues, it stands to reason you should be filling your stomach with foods which will benefit your bloodstream. These are things such as beans, oatmeal and fruits. You should also be sure to remove food from your diet which adds saturated or trans fats as they’re the number one source of high cholesterol. It’s easier said than done but your body will thank you in the long run.”

Exercise

Physical activity promotes healthier blood flow which high cholesterol is responsible for harming. Lifeforce is a business providing subscribers the ability to understand and improve their body like never before. Their Founder, Joel Jackson, advises being proactive about fighting off that high cholesterol.

“When we look at the science of cholesterol, there are two basic terms to understand, HDLs and LDLs, or high-density lipoproteins and low-density lipoproteins. Simply put, HDLs are healthy cholesterol while LDLs are not. One of the most direct ways of influencing the count of these two lipoproteins is exercise. The good news for everyone is that it doesn’t take much – even just a couple of hours each week will cause a noticeable rise in HDLs paired with a reduction of LDLs. When you think about everything else exercise can do for you on top of this, it would be foolish to make it part of your routine.”

Be Intentional and Patient

Greater Than specializes in hydration for pregnant women. Their Chief Marketing Officer, Bryan Alston, considers it necessary to approach any high-cholesterol with mindfulness.

“It’s incredibly important to realize that for any recognizable changes to take place in the body, time must pass. Along similar lines, no real change will take place if a person sits in complacency hoping their situation comes to pass. If you’re dealing with high cholesterol, these are the two important ideas to keep at the forefront of your mind as you work towards health – Intentionality and patience. It’s hard work to return and stabilize your cholesterol at doctor recommended levels. And, it doesn’t take place overnight. I’m certain these two realities will become frustrating at some point but I urge you to continually push through.”

Stop Smoking

Natalia Sadowski is the Director of Aesthetics of Nourishing Biologicals, a brand offering skincare products. She cautions others against the continued use of tobacco products.

“Nobody said that getting healthier was going to be a walk in the park or even easy for that matter. The same can be said about giving up smoking. But, as most are well aware, both are beneficial to ourselves. This is especially true of smoking as it relates to high cholesterol. Nicotine in the body sends a rush to the heart, causing it to work harder while also slowing down the flow of blood throughout the rest of the body. Both of these things hinder your body’s ability to both process and eliminate good and bad cholesterol.”

Take a Break

Running any system at one hundred percent capacity all the time will result in a decrease in productivity accompanied by a shorter life span. This is true of the body as well. Nue Life is a business providing mental health assistance paired with psychedelics. Their Co-Founder and CEO, Juan Pablo Cappello, proposes being cautious of this.

“There are so many different causes of stress that if I sat here and named them all we may never leave. Regardless of who you are or what you do, you’ve experienced stress. Are you aware that higher levels of stress induce higher levels of cholesterol? That means it’s up to you to take a break and relieve some of that stress. If you don’t, you’ll only continue to compound both problems. High stress is one thing, high cholesterol is an entirely different beast.”

Focus on Weight Loss

Zizi specializes in an at-home kit to help lower cholesterol. Their Co-Founder, Reece Kresser, believes shedding any excess weight could be more impactful than one might imagine.

“If we think about it logically, a person with a larger body mass will require more effort to move blood throughout their body as there’s more area that requires coverage. If that person can healthily focus on weight loss, they’ll see a significant difference in their cholesterol levels. Think of it this way, if said person is spending less energy on blood movement, they’ll have more energy to identify and dispose of any cholesterol. Overall, it’s a win across the board so go the extra mile here. Ideally, your body will be around for a long time and treating it right is how you ensure it’s ready for that.”

With only one body meant to live for 70 or so years, it is critical to get ahead of the health curve. Actress and musician Jennifer Hudson spoke to this, “Gaining control over your health and well-being is one of those times in your life that you get to be completely selfish and not feel bad about it. If you want to meet your goals, you have to make it about you. You have to make it work for you and you alone. Anything less is a setup for failure.”

Spawning the hits “Tiny Dancer” and “Levon,” Madman Across The Water was Elton’s fourth studio album, released only two years after his debut. Recorded in 1971, it was a foundation stone of what was to become a dazzlingly prolific decade for the global-icon-in-waiting. Madman Across The Water was largely written after Elton had made his initial foray to America, offering the opportunity for lyricist Bernie Taupin to witness first-hand the landscapes and people he’d only seen on a screen or on the page. Recorded at Trident Studios in Central London in February and August 1971, it was the first album where all five players of Elton’s fabled band lineup (Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone, and Ray Cooper) were featured. The album also featured Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who plays Hammond organ on three songs.

A newly unveiled Piano Demo of “Tiny Dancer,” taken from the archives and previously unheard, will be available to stream in full later today Here. Watch a preview of the track now Here. Recorded at Dick James Studios in central London in Spring 1971, it is an intimate performance of the song with Elton alone at the piano as a guide for the band later to follow.

While the UK’s love affair with Elton was on the precipice of exploding upon Madman’s release at the start of the ‘70s, these nine tracks immediately struck a chord with US audiences, reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard album charts. It also spawned two hit singles, “Levon” and “Tiny Dancer,” both reaching the US Top 50. After years as a best-kept secret to Elton’s fans, “Tiny Dancer” has gone on to become one of his most loved songs with his worldwide fanbase, third only to “Rocket Man” and “Your Song” in global streaming numbers. Capturing the headiness of California at the time of Elton’s first US concerts, the song was used to phenomenal effect in Cameron Crowe’s classic 2000 film Almost Famous. Both “Levon” and “Tiny Dancer” remain live favorites to this day, taking pride of place in the setlist for Elton’s record-breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

The celebration of Madman Across The Water comes in four different formats. All formats contain Bob Ludwig’s 2016 remaster of the main album. There are 18 previously unreleased tracks across the Super Deluxe 3-CD/1-Blu-ray box set, which also contains rare, restored material from the era, piano demos of the album, and the audio of the BBC Sounds For Saturday concert, broadcast in 1972. The Blu-Ray contains a 5.1 mix by Greg Penny, plus the Sounds For Saturday and his 1971 Old Grey Whistle Test performance. The audio of the Super Deluxe CD/Blu-ray set will also be available on a 4-LP set. The box set includes photos, an essay with interviews with those who helped make the album, as well as memorabilia and artwork taken from the Rocket Archive. The album will also be available as a limited edition blue and white-colored 180g LP.

Staying on top of the latest trends is great, but you may have realized just how much waste buying these ‘trendy’ items has created. Fashion comes and goes but the materials and energy used to create these products are often significantly higher than what you realize.

Creating a stylish and eco-conscious wardrobe on a budget is something many people are turning to. Not only is this great for your wallet, but it helps the Earth as well. Take a look at these tips to help you get started!

Educate Yourself

The idea of building an eco-conscious and sustainable wardrobe on a budget might sound appealing, but what does it mean? This isn’t a goal that can be attained overnight, so understanding your “why” and doing research can be extremely beneficial to helping you stay focused on your goals when it seems so far away.

“Learning what your goals are to create a sustainable wardrobe is every bit as important as owning one,” says Lori Price, Founder of PixieLane. “There are many different types of eco-conscious wardrobes and people take their sustainable wardrobes to different levels. Understanding your own goal by researching the industry can help you be successful in the long run.”

Inventory Your Current Wardrobe

Before you set out to create a new wardrobe, make sure you understand what’s in your closet right now. You might be surprised what you already have to work with. This will also come in handy for some of the later tips in this article.

“One of the most eco-conscious and budget-friendly ways you can improve your wardrobe is to build off of what you already own,” says Omid Semino, CEO and Founder of Diamond Mansion. “Look at what you have and create a list or a photo album of clothing that you could incorporate into new outfits. Neutral colors and basic designs are fantastic because they’re easy to modify by adding other elements into the outfit.”

Find Local Options

Shipping and handling add expense and waste to the purchasing process, so finding a local option is both eco-conscious and helps you stay on a budget. Look for local eco-friendly boutiques or secondhand stores where you can try things on and make sure you love them before making a purchase.

“Online shopping is convenient, but it’s also home to many fast-fashion retailers who are not eco-conscious,” says Lauren Kleinman, Co-founder The Quality Edit. “Support a local business by shopping from someone in your community who’s looking to make a difference in their economic footprint as well. Consignment shops and eco-friendly small businesses are fantastic ways to purchase items that you’re sure to love for a long time.”

Research Brands

Learning what brands are doing to support the environment while producing their clothing products can lead you to brands that are not only affordable but eco-conscious as well. A great way to create an eco-friendly wardrobe on a budget is by doing research into brands to find where the sweet spot is for you in terms of affordability and environmental responsibility.

“Unfortunately, a lot of people think that eco-conscious purchases mean that the products have to be expensive,” says Cesar Cruz, Co-Founder of Sebastian Cruz Couture. “This leads many to believe that they can’t afford to buy new clothing that is eco-friendly. This is simply not true. There are many brands out there that strive to do their best to maintain a positive carbon footprint while producing affordable products. Sometimes you just have to dig a bit to find them.”

Find Others Looking to Do The Same

Reach out on social media or other platforms to find others in your community who are looking to remodel their wardrobe to include eco-conscious clothing. There are many eco-conscious people out there who are probably interested in doing the same thing and multiple heads are better than one when it comes to finding new resources.

Just as the weather begins to warm, Bastille has shared a contender for song of the summer with the release of new single, “Remind Me”—listen HERE.

“Remind Me” began life in LA whilst the band was working with Rami Yacoub from Max Martin’s production team MxM. Speaking about “Remind Me,” Dan says,

“I started working on ‘Remind Me’ a few years ago in LA with some writer friends at the very beginning of the Give Me The Future album process. We weren’t really sure what it would be for but always loved how different it felt. Finishing it off in London with Mark Crew and the rest of the guys, we’d wanted to make something sharp and minimal. The lyrics are about how our minds can taunt us with memories that play uncontrollably like scenes on a loop, so we set the track over this hypnotic, rolling guitar riff. We invited a bunch of singers to lend their voices to the track. We’d been diving into a bunch of music from the 80’s that had sounded futuristic at the time, so it fits with the ideas of the past’s versions of the future that we explore across the album. This song was like a jumping off point for us a couple of years ago and helped shape the sonic tone of the whole Give Me The Future album. Plus, I’m a massive Michel Gondry and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fan, and love how that film explores memory and relationships, so it was fun to nod to it.”

The track features background vocals from the band Fours and Zimbabwean-British singer Rationale.
