Global Commitment to Cybersecurity

According to a recent study by the Atlas VPN team, the United States, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia lead in commitment to cybersecurity.

As technologies continue to evolve, governments around the world must face the reality of cyber threats and adapt their security practices. A study reports on countries’ scores on the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), varying cybersecurity training and practices, and additional statistics which help to create a fuller picture of the global relationship to cybersecurity.

A GCI score is given by evaluating each country’s commitment to legal, technical, organizational, capacity development, and cooperation indicators. The United States earned a perfect score of 100, getting all 20 points in each GCI indicator. However, while the US has the most cybersecurity resources, the latest cyberattacks on Americans have shown room for improvement.

The United Kingdom follows behind, scoring 99.54 points in GCI. The score indicates that the UK has to employ more computer incident response teams, enabling a country to respond to incidents at the national level using a centralized contact point and promote quick and systematic action.

Saudi Arabia shares second place, getting the same score of 99.54 as the UK. While being one of the fastest developing countries, Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on cybersecurity.

Estonia takes the fourth slot as they scored 99.48, losing just half a point in the capacity development indicator. Estonia has become one of the heavyweights in cybersecurity with a high-functioning central system for monitoring, reporting, and resolving incidents.

The Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Spain all share fifth place, scoring 98.52 points.

Cybersecurity writer and researcher at Atlas VPN William Sword shares his thoughts on the current cybersecurity landscape, “Beyond co-operating within countries, Global Cybersecurity Index leaders could help less developed countries address cybersecurity challenges. For example, creating a strategy or sharing good cyber practices can help reach more balanced and robust security against cyber threats.”

Lack of cybersecurity training

One of the reasons why cyber attacks continue to increase is a lack of cybersecurity education and training.

Just 46% of countries provided specific cybersecurity training for the public sector and government officials. Employees in these fields usually work with a lot of sensitive or confidential information, which is why education on cybersecurity is essential.

Meanwhile, 41% of countries provided cybersecurity training to small and medium enterprises or private companies. Businesses often become targets for hackers as the latter can easily profit off of stolen data or ransomware attacks. While more prominent private companies can afford cybersecurity experts, smaller businesses do not have such luxury.

Law enforcement agents received educational cybersecurity programs in only 37% of countries, while only 31% of countries provide training to judicial and legal actors. This training may help officers and executors of the law understand how hackers think, identify the tools that hackers use to commit attacks, and ultimately prevent and protect from future cybercrime.

Beyond co-operating within countries, Global Cybersecurity Index leaders could help less developed countries address cybersecurity challenges. Creating a strategy or sharing good cyber practices can help reach more balanced and robust security against cyber threats.

Brunch Tacos at Lanea

Brunch at Lanea

By Krishan Narsinghani

360 Magazine had the opportunity to try LA’s Premier Cocktail Bar & Taqueria, Lanea. This west side delight is opened up for indoor or outdoor dining at their quaint patio. With a small wooden boat plopped center-adjacent and arcade games at the bar, guests are quickly struck with a beach-y, hip atmosphere as they enter the establishment.

The early afternoon brunch began outdoors as we grabbed a seat, scanned a QR code for digital menus (seen at most LA restaurants post-pandemic) and were settled in by the waiter for authentic Mexican cuisine and drinks. If you are looking to quench your thirst, the margarita flights are immaculately made for a diverse pallet. The 360 favorite out of the four margs served had to be the Spicy Margarita (JAJA Tequila, Habanero Honey, Fresh Lime). It had the perfect amount of spice alongside The Chainsmoker’s JAJA tequila – must try! Other handcrafted margs include the Picante Coast Highway (Nosotros Blanco, passionfruit, ginger, habanero honey, citrus), SOCALienta Margarita (Cazadores Blanco, Thai Chili, Serrano, Habanero Honey, Pineapple, Citrus) and the Classic Marg.

After trying the brunch tacos, we decided that they should be an item kept at all taquerias. Huevos Con Chorizo and the Huevos Con Veggie, which included sauteed spinach and mushrooms, did not disappoint. Brunch is served until 2pm. Off the lunch section, the street style Barbacoa taco used lamb that had been wrapped in agave leaves and pit-roasted underground for 36 hours. Tenderized meat with their spicy homemade salsas will have you in a food coma before leaving the restaurant. Mouth-watering is an understatement when thinking back to the burrito with added flavors and toppings. Choose any of the proteins, or substitute for beyond meat.

Overall, the service is refreshing and a great eatery to start or end a beach day. Lanea is located at 217 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA, and is open for indoor and outdoor dining, takeout, and delivery. Lunch is available on Thursdays and Fridays, with DJs spinning on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8 p.m.

RE-INC × BODEGA

By: Andrew Shibuya × Hannah Beck

This past weekend, 360 Magazine attended the release of re-inc’s collaborative collection with Los Angeles clothing store Bodega and interviewed one of re-inc’s founders and CEO, Christen Press. You can find our coverage of the event as well as the interview below.

re-inc was founded by four members of the United States Women’s National team, Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, Meghan Klingenberg, along with Press in 2019. The company’s mission revolves around sustainability, equality, and the creating of a global community, citing the reimagining and reinvention of the future as their primary tenets.

Their collaborator on this collection, Bodega LA, hosted the release of their “REUNITE” collection. Nestled between loading docks and former warehouses in the recently reopened ROW DTLA, Bodega is sequestered on the far end of the historic commercial complex turned upscale shopping mall. The store itself follows suit with its surrounding industrial environment, with many elements of the former factory preserved and combined with the namesake New York staple.

The event itself was based around the opportunity to shop the new collection in the Bodega store, as well as the opportunity to meet re-inc founders Heath and Press. Outside the store was a separate outdoors area where the festivities mainly took place, comprised of a DJ booth, a fruit stand, and a shaved iced stand. In addition, there was a small tent set up under which founders Heath and Press autographed posters and took pictures with fans.

The founders of re-inc will be playing at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo this summer, something many of the fans present at the event were excited about. The US Women’s National Team is once more expected to be one of the dominant teams in the tournament. In 2016 in Brazil, Team USA was narrowly defeated in the quarterfinals round in a match against Sweden, though in 2019, the women won the FIFA World Cup in France.

For Heath, Press, Klingenberg, and Rapinoe, their identities as global athletes seem to be inextricable from re-inc’s mission and this latest Reunite Capsule. This collection is centered around not only a reopening of the world as vaccination numbers rise and coronavirus cases fall, but also, of course, their global competition this summer.

And so, in correspondence with this vast crowd of eager soccer fans and the desire to build a community around re-inc, one of the centerpieces of the event was a board where fans were encouraged to respond to the prompt “How will you boldly re-imagine the status quo?”. This feature of the event gestures to re-inc’s mission and core belief of “relentless and continuous reinvention”.

It seems as though re-inc likewise have intended to honor their mission through various production and charitable ventures. The clothes themselves are all said to have been made in woman-owned factories of recycled and organic materials. In addition, 1% of sales from the Reunited Capsule are to be given to the Partners in Health charity, who are striving for a more equitable distribution of the coronavirus vaccine. It is also worth noting that the collection was manufactured in factories on the East Coast of the United States.

The collection, which will be available at 9pm EST June 29th on their website, is comprised of a variety of colorful clothing with various accompanying graphics, seemingly paying homage to the trending resurgence of psychedelia. The garments range from sweats to hats and are in primarily earth tones. This event and the collaboration were similarly re-inc’s first foray into in-store retail. You can find the new collection HERE.

360 Magazine was able to speak briefly to Press about the inspiration behind the newest collection as well as plans for re-inc’s future. Read the interview below:

What were some of the main sources of inspiration for re-inc’s newest collection?

It was the Olympics, of course, and there’s a little psychedelia in it, alluding to our next collection, the Field of Flowers collection, coming out this summer. And it’s really inspired by that happy high and about reimagining what your health and prosperity is, and of course, coming together in a new reimagined way.

What was most important to you in the designing of this collection?

I think with every collection we design we want to get past just the surface and go really into emotions and humanity. I think that there is a tension in that because it is hard to convey something deep down, and I think we’ve done a really great job with that.

Today, Red Bull Records is thrilled to announce its partnership deal with acclaimed producer, songwriter, and music executive Ebony ‘WondaGurl’ Oshunrinde and her label imprint, Wonderchild. The news of the exciting new partnership follows WondaGurl’s history-making win at the 2021 Juno Awards, where she became the first Black woman to receive the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award.

The first deal of its kind for Red Bull Records, WondaGurl will work alongside Red Bull Records executives Greg Hammer (Managing Director) and Kenny ‘Tick’ Salcido (Senior Vice President / Head of A&R) to sign fresh, exciting new talent. Toronto rapper JUGGER will serve as the first artist to sign to the label, with his highly anticipated full-length project executive produced by WondaGurl out later this year. Read the full announcement on Complex here.

We couldn’t be more excited to announce this partnership with WondaGurl, says Hammer. As one of the most groundbreaking producers in her field, we look forward to investing in WondaGurl’s creative vision and championing her future signings. Our first joint signing JUGGER is the perfect embodiment of our partnership, and as a pioneer of the ‘death trap’ genre, his sound is one that is truly innovative and unmatched.

WondaGurl defines our mission statement of working with culturally significant talent. A veteran producer at only 24 years old, WondaGurl has worked with A-list artists for years and is now offering rising talent the chance to sign to her Wonderchild imprint in partnership with Red Bull Records, notes Salcido. At the time of negotiations, our A&R consultant Gelareh ‘G’ Rouzbehani worked tirelessly with us to help bring this deal to fruition. JUGGER will be our first official joint signing, and we are excited to combine forces to give him the platform he needs to make a strong debut. I believe Tyler Henry and Sturdy are one of the best management teams in the business, and we could not be more excited to grow this partnership with them.

It has been a pleasure working with the Red Bull Records team this past year in developing my first artist, JUGGER, says WondaGurl. Kenny, G, Greg, and the rest of the team have given me the time and space to create. As an artist and producer, that means everything. I look forward to the release of our first project together and everything to come with this relationship.

Red Bull Records has been a great partner and supported WondaGurl in her creative endeavors over this last year, adds WondaGurl’s manager, Tyler Henry. We are excited to get our first release out together.

Goodwood Festival of Speed Features Two Designs by Gordon Murray

Two classic Gordon Murray designed race cars to star at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed

Legendary Brabham Ford BT44B to run up Goodwood’s famous hill climb route. Joined by IGM F750, one of the first race cars to be designed by Gordon Murray. Professor Gordon Murray was named as one of the judges of the 26th annual Cartier Style et Luxe Concours d’Élégance. Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from July 8 to 11 – one of the world’s greatest celebrations of motoring and motorsport.

Gordon Murray Automotive is set to light up this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with two ground-breaking Gordon Murray-designed heritage cars being driven up the famous 1.16mile hill. The 1972 IGM F750 and 1975 Brabham Ford BT44B will star at the Festival which runs from July 8-11. Professor Gordon Murray will be personally driving his creations over the weekend, with racing driver Marino Franchitti amongst the others sharing the driving duties.

Professor Gordon Murray has also been invited by the Duke of Richmond to be a member of the judging panel for the 26th annual Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ Concours d’Élégance, the winner of which will be announced on Sunday 11 July.

Professor Gordon Murray CBE said, The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ultimate event for any motoring enthusiast. That’s why I was keen to have two of my favourite racing cars run up the hill. Both cars demonstrate the advantage of lightweight innovation and both established principles that allowed me to have a successful career in motor racing. They also taught me many things. Learnings that I have even employed in our latest T.50 supercar and its T.50s Niki Lauda track-focused sibling. I can’t wait to see them being driven up the hill and experience them again myself.

The 1972 IGM F750 was the first race car that Gordon Murray designed after he arrived in the UK from South Africa in 1969. Determined to go racing he settled on the 750 Formula, designing this innovative monocoque car, with a lay-down driving position, rear radiator and 10-inch wheels, all to create a car with a low frontal area. It also featured a Murray-designed rod operated rising rate front suspension system, which is now universal on all racing cars. The car running at Goodwood is chassis T.4 001 which was discovered as unassembled components and then reconstructed by the Gordon Murray Design team in 2019.

The Brabham Ford BT44B, was a development of the successful BT44, with a step forward in aerodynamic performance. Powered by a 460hp Ford 3.0-litre V8, it gave Carlos Pace his first GP win at his home event at the 1975 Brazil Grand Prix. Brabham teammate Carlos Reutemann also took it to victory at the 1975 German GP. The BT44 was the first GP car to utilise rising rate pull rod suspension and have the rear suspension directly attached to the engine.

Boslen – Quartz Music Video

Vancouver-bred alt-hip-hop newcomer Boslen shares the ferocious video for “QUARTZ.” Featuring Zimbabwe-born rapper Charmaine, “QUARTZ” is the third single released from Boslen’s forthcoming debut album DUSK to DAWN, due out later this year. Watch the Natasha Dion directed and produced video HERE. The video showcases the new Canadian wave with the upcoming artists cruising in their luxurious cars putting on for both Vancouver and Toronto.

“QUARTZ” is built on an aggressive rhythm. It’s one of my best flows. Charmaine and I let loose and this song bridges the gap between Toronto and Vancouver’s music scene,” said Boslen.

Produced by justsayin, Stoopid Lou, and Dalton, “Quartz” is the latest offering from a fast-rising artist with a proven track record of boldly defying genre boundaries. This time around, the 22-year-old phenomenon delivers one of his most formidable tracks to date, showing the full force of his commanding vocals and expert wordplay.

About Boslen

Boslen is a 22-year-old trailblazing and genre-bending artist of Jamaican and Indigenous Canadian descent, based in Vancouver. Fusing hip-hop, rock, pop, and everything else under sun to craft his emotive rap ballads and bouncing trap bangers, he’s a sonic architect who meticulously takes part in the production of all his tracks. In 2018 he released his debut mixtape Motionless, then delivered Motionless II later that year. Arriving in early 2019, his single “Eye for an Eye” cemented his spot as a crucial force in the future of Vancouver’s sound. In July 2019, Boslen released “Hidden Nights,” which gained traction after receiving support from popular YouTube channel and entertainment company, the Nelk Boys. From there, Boslen went on to release his Black Lotus EP, which peaked at #11 on the Canadian Apple Music streaming charts. His momentum continued into 2020 with the release of “VULTURES,” a track clapping back at those who were taking advantage of him. As he continues to push himself creatively, Boslen is becoming widely known for his self-reflective lyricism, as well as his ability to seamlessly flow over pop, hip-hop, R&B, and alternative production. Later this year, Boslen will release his debut album DUSK to DAWN.
