Reduce Covid Stress

The millions of infections and hundreds of thousands of deaths that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought globally are creating stress over everything from personal health to employment, lifestyle, and finances. Given these difficult circumstances, it’s more important than ever for people to know about coping mechanisms to better manage stress, protect their immune system, and increase their chances of staying healthy, says Dr. Nammy Patel, DDS, author of Age With Style: Your Guide To A Youthful Smile & Healthy Living.

“COVID is maximizing stress for so many people,” Dr. Patel says. “It has a far-reaching impact into every part of our lives, and if we don’t manage the stress, it severely affects our bodily systems – causing burned-out adrenals, high cortisol, and thyroid issues, to name a few consequences of high-stress levels. Thus, the immune system is lowered, and we are more vulnerable to illness.

“This era we are living in is very traumatic, and it’s very concerning. In dentistry, gum disease, sleep disturbances or apnea, and teeth breakage can all be evidence of stress. Poor oral health, as studies show, can be a gateway to medical issues. People often don’t identify how much stress they’re under, and how it’s affecting them physically, until they actually get sick.”

Dr. Patel has the following suggestions people can incorporate into their daily lives to better deal with stress.

5 Ways To Cope And Protect Your Health:

  1. Adhere to a healthy diet. While in quarantine or a new normal in which people are spending the vast majority of their time at home, having healthy foods at home and not over-snacking are vital considerations. “We must be more mindful of the foods we put in our bodies,” Dr. Patel says. “Eat as many greens and whole foods as possible. Avoid dairy products as they increase mucus production in the sinus and the chest, leading to lots of sneezing and congestion. The coronavirus enters the nose and makes a home in the sinus, and to increase immunity, it’s important that the sinus and chest are not inflamed. Food prep makes it easier to eat healthy while working from home. Prepare salads and other healthy meals in advance.”
  2. Don’t over-indulge in drinking. “For some people, drinking is the only source of enjoyment during the pandemic,” Dr. Patel says. “And we see people who are isolating having Zoom calls with friends while drinking wine. The problem is that one glass turns into two or more, and with the sugar content of wine, you may wake up during the night. This disturbs sleep, and sleep is when the immune system regenerates. Restorative sleep is essential to our health.”
  3. Take vitamin supplements. “Often, those with adrenal fatigue don’t take in enough essential nutrients as stress increases their body’s nutritional demands,” Dr. Patel says. “To address adrenal and cortisol burnout, take multivitamins in order to get trace minerals.”
  4. Develop a morning ritual. “Deep breathing exercises can be calming and get you out of the hyper state,” Dr. Patel says. “You want to get rid of the ‘fight or flight’ mode and enter the ‘rest and digest’ state of mind.”
  5. Find a stress management activity that works for you. Many people don’t like to exercise, but Dr. Patel notes exercise doesn’t have to be rigorous to be effective. “A type of exercise one enjoys doing at home like walking, running, or yoga goes a long way toward releasing stress hormones,” she says. “And for those who like intense workouts, it’s all good in terms of reducing stress. Another good stress management technique is using biofeedback mechanisms like alpha state meditations to increase immunity.”

“The disruption of daily life by COVID-19 has caused us to rethink many things that we do,” Dr. Patel says. “How we deal with stress needs to be a priority now, and it’s not overly difficult if you develop good daily habits.”

360 Magazine, Deryk

Deryk – Debut Single

Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, 24-year-old singer and songwriter Deryk reveals her debut single “Call You Out” today—listen HERE and watch the video HERE.

“Call You Out” is a song that surreptitiously rides sparse beats and rolling acoustic guitar to construct a woozy, intriguing scenario that lingers long afte r the song has finished. During the recent lockdown, Deryk created, shot, and directed her debut video on her mobile phone. Shot in her kitchen cupboards with the help of a red lamp and a delightfully distorting glass jar, “Call You Out” is a powerful statement of intent.

On the song, Deryk says, “‘Call You Out’ is about the feeling you get when you’ve missed an opportunity to say something you felt you should have said or could have been said if you’d been quick enough. ‘I fucking wish I’d said that, fuck.’ There’s a shame and frustration that comes with not standing up for yourself or somebody else when you could have but you just froze, lost for words. You end up brewing for a few days, plotting, questioning whether to call them out, and that exact fury is what inspired the song.”

It’s all too rare to discover a new artist who doesn’t acquiesce to the current penchant for in-your-face introductions, but instead chooses to aim squarely at your heart. Deryk is one such exception. While the world moves at a dizzying pace all around her, she manages to summon space and instill stillness in her music, as well as deliver a few surprises along the way.

Born in the UK and now based in Auckland, Deryk is heavily influenced by British culture in all aspects of her creativity thanks to her mom. Musically, she draws inspiration from powerful female artists, like PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Esperanza Spalding, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Bjork, as well as her love for Bristol and its culture in the 90’s. Deryk has crafted her own sound that feels utterly contemporary while still retaining a hazy, timeless quality. Contributing to that is her production and writing spar, Justyn Pilbrow, whose extensive experience with artists like The Neighbourhood, Chelsea Jade, and Halsey helped Deryk capture her vision.

The sound of Deryk is unique and captivating, molding distinctive, rhythmic vocal phrasings and visceral lyrics around craftily submerged melodies and ghostly modular tones. Slow music for fast times, space and solace amongst the confusion, a gentle reveal in the age of instant gratification, mordant lines over sumptuous melodies—Deryk is something special.

MAGIC Cancels Live Event

Informa Markets Fashion announced today the cancellation of MAGIC’s Las Vegas fashion wholesale trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which was set to run from September 30 – October 2, 2020. Instead, MAGIC, with sister shows, COTERIE, PROJECT, MICAM Americas, and CHILDREN’S CLUB, is in full swing to debut their digital trade event, scheduled to open on September 1, 2020 and run through November 1, 2020.

MAGIC, the largest domestic fashion tradeshow in Las Vegas, which includes WWDMAGIC, PROJECT, MICAM Americas, POOLTRADESHOW, STITCH, and SOURCING at MAGIC draws an audience of international and domestic retailers, brands, media, and industry influencers. With the offering of a comprehensive and centralized digital trade platform this fall, brands and retailers will benefit from an inclusive, location-free opportunity to connect and conduct commerce – bridging the gap created by the continued uncertainty of travel restrictions and health and safety concerns. This digital trade event – one of the largest digital marketplaces for fashion wholesale – is the initial step forward within a much larger, future-facing plan of collaborative physical and digital events for the fashion wholesale industry.

“Based on our discussions with partners and stakeholders surrounding health, safety, and travel concerns across the country, cancelling our late September Las Vegas event, while disappointing, is the best path forward for our fashion community,” said Nancy Walsh, President of Informa Markets Fashion. “Current climate aside, re-evaluating, re-adjusting, and continually maturing our business model has always been part of our company ethos. Our digital trade event is a natural and necessary first step in revolutionizing and innovating our business in a time that is primed for digital opportunity and outlets.”

MAGIC’s digital marketplace, powered by NuORDER will not only feature new and known brands across women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, accessories, and footwear, but like the live event, will also feature a robust line-up of educational programming and seminars. With a full 8-week run time, retail buyers will be able to leisurely explore a full library of shoppable editorials and engaging educational content, from tastemaker-curated roundups and retail discovery sessions to timely industry insights. The fusion of community and value-add content will generate a more efficient endless aisle experience of unique product discovery for retailers.

Additionally, participating brands will benefit from enhanced brand storytelling and the ability to make more informed merchandising decisions in real time through data analytics and NuORDER’S market-leading features such as digital catalogs, line sheets, 360 imagery, and shoppable hotspots to connect and conduct commerce. While the momentum is gaining to utilize this new platform and its technology, exhibitors are already gearing up for onboarding, with weekly webinar training sessions in full swing. Helping brands quickly become comfortable navigating the virtual showroom technology, each hour-long session features a comprehensive tutorial demonstrating platform functionalities and capabilities, followed by a live audience Q&A.

“From the very beginning of planning a digital component to our events, back in early 2020, we have been diligently taking strides forward to ensure a meaningful product was developed for our community. We have had our finger on the pulse of our industry and we have learned so much from our customers, partners, and community in the past few days, weeks, and months – their needs, wants, and hopes – which allows us to more confidently step forward this year and then further enhance our business into a dynamic and hybrid future in 2021,” said Kelly Helfman, President of MAGIC.

Maj – “Supreme”

Maj, the Dallas-based singer–songwriter–producer whose grunge-inflected production, nocturnal hip-hop, and soulful confessional storytelling has earned him nearly 10 million total global streams in less than two years, releases “Supreme,” his brand new single + lyric video (directed by Ice The Endless), available at all DSPs today via Def Jam Recordings.

Supreme” is the first new music from Maj since the release of Majestic, his Def Jam label debut EP released in March. The eight track EP comprised five previously released songs (“Sloppy Seconds,” “Come Here,” “Trial & Error,” “Tesla,” and “2drunk” featuring 24kGoldn); plus three previously unreleased titles (“Love Always,” “Start A War,” and “Fucked Me Over”).

ABOUT MAJ:

Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and raised in Dallas, Maj turned to music as a creative outlet after his parents divorced, and soon developed a diverse palette that ranged from Tyler, The Creator’s Bastard and Goblin, to Nirvana’s In Utero and Bleach among other influences. Maj conceived and launched a YouTube channel on which he posted commentary and analysis reaction videos to songs and albums that interested him. He piled up over 4 million views but his days as an “analyst” were numbered, as he began making low-key recordings of his own original material. “I didn’t even let my family know.”

His first upload out the gate, “Leave Me Alone” racked up over 100,000 streams. Collaborating with producer Nick Mira [XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD], “You and I” and “Sloppy Seconds” each surpassed one million mark, while “The Heartbreak” (produced by Nimbus Beats) neared 1.5 million Soundcloud plays alone.  Into 2019,  “Come Here” and “Trial & Error” showed his artistic progression, and ultimately caught the attention of Def Jam, the world’s most important hip-hop destination.

Maj strikes a working balance between listening and speaking, and his growing legion of fans seem to appreciate that he is out there listening and, most importantly, singing. “You might feel lost,” he sums up, “but you could also be happy as hell and still fuck with what I’m doing. This is meant to be a place for everybody.”

REZZ × GRABBITZ – Someone Else

Today, REZZ and Grabbitz release the Malaa Remix for their track “Someone Else” via RCA Records. This is the first ever official remix of a REZZ track. The original track was released in April and has garnered over 8.7 million video and audio streams worldwide and has reached #15 on Alt Radio in the US and #2 in Canada. Billboard called REZZ and Grabbitz coming together “a match made in electronic heaven.”

Last week, REZZ received The JUNO Award for Electronic Album of the Year for her work on Beyond The Senses which was her first independent project released in 2019.

25-year-old Canadian DJ/producer Isabelle Rezazadeh AKA REZZ has racked up tens of millions of streams, sold out legendary venues and headlined top festivals around the world. She oozes originality and produces genre-bending electronic works, striking a sharp balance between bass-heavy and minimal tech compositions. Her first independent project- the adventurous Beyond The Senses EP – was released in 2019 and received praise from Alternative Press, SPIN and Billboard who called it “her most impactful project to date.” She graced the cover of Billboard’s 2019 Dance Issue and has been attributed as being at the forefront of the dance and rock music crossover. Already, 2020 has marked a banner year for the producer who released her first single through RCA Records “Someone Else.” Alternative Press praised the song upon its release, including it as the lead track in their weekly playlist. They called the video “another high point in REZZ’s canon,” saying, “…the song evokes a sinister groove that will appeal to dance music devotees as well as industrial rivetheads…”

Praised by the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard, while notching over 80 million streams to date, Grabbitz has allotted critical praise and adoration from a wide audience alike. He’s shown his voice and music have evolved in real time from his beginnings in dance music, to a more alternative, genre-less hybrid. He has collaborated with heavy hitters like deadmau5, Pendulum, NGHTMRE and now REZZ. Grabbitz is primed to have an unmistakable voice in the electronic world and beyond.

Masked by his iconic balaclava on stage, MALAA’s identity remains unknown. Though with over a dozen singles and EP’s under Tchami’s Confession label, MALAA has made his presence known in the underground dance music community. His work has been recognized and remixed by global artist, Alok, has worked alongside Skrillex and Diplo’s collective, Jack Ü, DJ Snake, and combined forces with Tchami on NO REDEMPTION. MALAA has graced stages across the globe, featuring appearances at Ultra Music Festivals, Lollapalooza, Holy Ship!, Creamfields, Breakaway, HARD Summer Music Festival, Moonrise, Spring Awakening, EDC and more.

Anna Sofia – Happy For You

Young singer-songwriter Anna Sofia reveals “Happy For You,” a single from her upcoming EP Broken Perfection

17 year old rising singer-songwriter Anna Sofia continues to stride into 2020 in rare fashion with the reveal of new single “Happy For You,” taken from the upcoming Broken Perfection EP. A driving indie-pop cut showcasing Anna Sofia’s stellar vocal atop dreamy production, the track serves as further testament to the talent of this up and comer, who already boast supports from the likes of Complex, Wonderland, IDOLATOR and more. Speaking on the release, Anna Sofia states:

happy for you is about this guy that i really really liked. i was away on a family trip and in the middle of the trip found out he got a girlfriend (the rest of my trip was sad after that). i was prettyyyy upset. the song is me explaining that i’m happy for this guy but then the production and the way the lyrics are sung help the audience understand that i’m being sarcastic. visually i wanted to incorporate different wigs to portray the times i’ve changed for this person to hopefully like me. i want my audience to see that and understand that changing yourself for someone to like you in any way really isn’t necessary. surround yourself with people that like you for who you are and wanna be.

At just 17, the Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has won critical acclaim, millions of streams and legions of dedicated fans for one simple reason: she’s being herself. She’s just an authentic artist living in the moment, reflecting life back to the same people coming of age and navigating the drama of becoming an adult. With indie meets R&B bangers, Anna Sofia sings directly from the heart of the Gen Z experience.
