Elle King: In Isolation

Multi-platinum and award-winning recording artist Elle King today announces the release of Elle King: In Isolation, a collection of raw demos/songs she’s recorded acoustically while quarantining at home in LA. She is working concurrently on her forthcoming third studio album for RCA Records.

This homegrown EP features three new songs “The Let Go,” co-written by Elle King with Daniel Omelio and Nick Long, “Over Easy” produced by Elle and co-written with Madi Diaz & Jessica Maros, and “The Only One,” written and produced by Elle King.

Click HERE to watch the “at home” performance video filmed in her living room for “The Let Go” that premiered on Rolling Stone.

Elle has recently experienced a massive streaming resurgence with her outrageously fun take on “My Neck My Back” featured in the Netflix film The Wrong Missy, and her most recent single “Baby Outlaw” is featured in the Charlize Theron-starring film The Old Guard released today, also on Netflix.

About Elle King:

Multi-platinum and award-winning recording artist Elle King has enjoyed over 1.2 billion streams worldwide. Her sophomore, critically acclaimed album Shake The Spirit was released in late 2018 and follows her debut album Love Stuff, a sultry, badass mix of rock and roll, blues, and country, with a twinge of pop. Love Stuff introduced the world to Elle King and featured her breakthrough single “Ex’s & Oh’s,” which earned her two GRAMMY nominations and was certified double platinum. Her breakthrough single hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs Chart and topped the AAA, Hot AC, and Alternative Radio charts, leading King to become the second female artist in 18 years to reach No. 1 at the latter format. Additionally, she’s collaborated with Dierks Bentley on “Different for Girls,” their #1 Country Airplay chart-topper and CMA Award-winning single for “Musical Event of the Year.”

Her lead single off of Shake The Spirit “Shame,” marked her fourth radio #1 single and led Elle to become the only act in history to have scored number 1 singles on the Adult Pop Songs, Adult Alternative Songs, Alternative Songs, and Country Airplay charts. Her follow up single “Baby Outlaw” achieved Top 15 charting at AAA Radio.

Rolling Stone wrote of her Austin City Limits live set: “Elle King is a little bit country, a little bit rock n’ roll, but ultimately, she’s punk as fuck.” Variety wrote of her Philadelphia Shake The Spirit tour date “…King churned the clotted cream of punkish country, raw R&B, crotchety rock and deep blues into rich, buttery musical drama with her band, The Brethren… (she) belted, crooned, purred, sauntered and swaggered her way through a tautly rocking set…one thing became very clear: nearly every song that came before (the finale) was equally contagious, catty-cool, and hit-worthy.”

YG – Swag

Compton Rapper YG drops his new single and video for “Swag”

Despite the fun beat and lyrics of “Swag,” the music video has a political undertone to it. In the video, fans can spot Tyga and Snoop Dogg dancing along to YG’s bop, continuing the energetic message of the song. But, the video also shows YG honoring Colin Kaepernick as YG kneels in a jersey. This homage follows YG’s intertwining of the BLM movement and police brutality with his music, as seen earlier this summer in his song “FTP.” “FTP” includes lyrics about racism in the U.S. and the music video was shot at a BLM protest in LA. “Swag” and “FTP” demonstrate a powerful connection between art and politics, which YG proudly delivers and listeners eagerly await to stream.

360 Magazine, Marvel, Scholastic

Marvel x Scholastic

Marvel Entertainment and Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, today
announced a multi-year Original Graphic Novel program featuring some of Marvel’s most iconic Super Heroes including Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, Shuri and more! These new stories will launch as part of Scholastic’s Graphix Media line, building from the success of Marvel and Scholastic’s prose collaboration program that kicked off earlier this year.

Next spring, Marvel and Scholastic’s new OGNs will make their debut with Miles Morales: Shock Waves, written by bestselling author Justin A. Reynolds (Opposite of Always and the forthcoming novel, Early Departures) with art by Eisner Award-nominated artist Pablo Leon (The Journey)! Following one of Marvel’s most popular characters, Miles Morales: Shock Waves will introduce readers to a riveting new story that will thrill both new and well-versed comics readers alike.

“Ever since he entered the Marvel Universe a few years ago, Miles has struck a deep and personal chord with fans around the world,” said Lauren Bisom, Editor of Marvel’s juvenile publishing. “As Spider-Man, he embodies that classic coming-of-age story. But as Miles, he represents so much more-and his life experiences, his culture, and his ability to embrace his inner strength make him one of the most important and inspirational heroes in the Marvel Universe.”

In Miles Morales: Shock Waves, Miles Morales is a normal school kid who happens to juggle school at Brooklyn Visions Academy while swinging through the streets of Brooklyn as Spider-Man. After a disastrous earthquake strikes his mother’s birthplace of Puerto Rico, Miles springs into action to help set up a fundraiser for the devastated island. But when a new student’s father goes missing, Miles begins to make connections between the disappearance and a giant corporation sponsoring Miles’ fundraiser. Who is behind the disappearance, and how does that relate to Spider-Man?

Following Miles Morales: Shock Waves, Marvel, and Scholastic will debut all-new adventures following Kamala Khan, written by rising graphic novel writer Nadia Shammas, and Shuri, written by New York Times bestselling author Roseanne A. Brown! More details on these new OGNs will be released in the coming months.

Earlier this year, the collaboration between Marvel and Scholastic launched to critical acclaim with Shuri: A Black Panther Novel by New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone; soon to be followed by Avengers Assembly: Orientation by popular middle-grade author Preeti Chhibber this August. In addition to releasing new OGNs starting in 2021, Marvel and Scholastic will continue its prose collaboration with new and sequel novels for readers everywhere.

“Our relationship with the Marvel publishing team is a true collaboration and partnership,” said Debra Dorfman, VP & Publisher, Licensing, Media & Brands. “As we grow our OGN list in licensing under Graphix Media, we can’t think of a better team to work with. How lucky are we to have Justin A. Reynolds and Pablo Leon collaborating on the first book about Miles Morales? We are equally as thrilled to welcome Nadia Shammas and Roseanne A. Brown to Scholastic.”

“The first books in our collaboration with Marvel have been enthusiastically received by critics and readers alike,” added Michael Petranek, Executive Editor and Manager, Graphix Media. “We are thrilled to bring fans of these amazing characters more stories to enjoy. We can’t wait to take our readers on new adventures and expand the breadth of our storytelling with Marvel.”

“After launching our prose novels with Scholastic earlier this year, we’ve seen a huge demand for more Marvel stories and entry points into the Marvel Universe,” said Sven Larsen, Vice President, Licensed Publishing, Marvel. “These middle-grade OGNs are the perfect next step to bring more readers in with the visual storytelling Marvel fans know and love. We’re thrilled to build our collaboration with Scholastic and
tell brand-new stories that represent the world around us, both through our characters and the creative teams behind them. We can’t wait to introduce you to this next chapter for Marvel’s heroes.”

Seattle Diversity Training

By Eamonn Burke

The City of Seattle recently held a training about Interrupting Internalized Racial Superiority for their white employees. Traits of internalized racism, according to the diversity trainers that led the session, include individualism, objectivity, and intellectualization.

The training included an extensive list of oppressive behavior that white people can commit against their co-workers, as well as a guideline for being allies to minorities. The city also encourages self affirmation in one’s contribution to the persistence of racism, with a goal of “undoing whiteness”. A visual aid of the racist “cycle” was included in the training. Another handout read: “racism is not our fault but we are responsible.”

A major focus of the training was that white people had to “give up” certain privileges to truly purge themselves of internalized racism. The diversity trainers specified these privileges to include comfort as well as social status and control. Lastly, they gave examples of achieving the status of a “white ally” to describe the goal of the training.

The goal, as described by the city in an email, is for “city employees who identify as white to join this training to learn, reflect, challenge ourselves, and build skills and relationships that help us show up more fully as allies and accomplices for racial justice.”
