The World Ski Awards were created to elevate standards within the ski industry, recognizing, rewarding, and celebrating excellence in ski tourism across the globe. Awards span across the world’s top 25 ski tourism nations, with categories that include ‘Best Ski Resort’, ‘Best Ski Hotel’, ‘Best Ski Boutique Hotel’, and ‘Best Ski Chalet’. Each year, hundreds of thousands of tourism professionals, skiers, and media cast their votes for their favourite ski tourism destinations and brands; and this year, winners were celebrated at the three-day awards gala that took place between November 22nd and 24th

Pan Pacific Whistler overcame a strong mix of contenders from across the country, defeating properties such as The Fairmont Banff Springs, The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, The Rimrock Resort Hotel, and Post Hotel & Spa. Neighbouring properties, including Four Seasons Resort & Residences Whistler, and The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, were also nominated for the national award.

“Our team is so humbled and beyond thrilled to once again be named the best ski hotel in Canada”, said Julie Lanteigne, general manager of Pan Pacific Whistler hotels. “It’s so gratifying to have been nominated among such an elite group of properties across the world and to know that this prestigious title is a result of votes from our visitors and industry peers alike. An award such as this continues to motivate us to elevate the experience of each guest as they discover why Whistler is regarded as the world-class ski destination that it is.”

Tech Companies To Watch Out For In The Next Year

By now we should all be familiar with the pace of technology, one of the last great frontiers for the entrepreneur. Even though it doesn’t occur to us in the moment, new innovations continue to shape our world from year to year.

Compare the year 2020 to the turn of the century. In the first two decades of the 21st century, we’ve gotten used to social media, 3D printing, blockchains, eBooks, CRISPR gene editing, online streaming video and the wide-scale adoption of mobile phones. Likewise, we started the new millennium not knowing the names of Facebook, Spotify, YouTube, Uber, AirBnB or Twitter.

What do the coming years bring? Our best economic and technological forecasters have picked a few rising stars in tech innovation who just might sculpt the next horizon in industry.

StartApp

We’ve all heard of marketing companies collecting data on mobile users to use as research on user behavior, but StartApp simply has more data than anybody else. Tapping a billion active mobile users every month across 350K apps, StartApp anonymously logs this user data and then packages it for sale to companies to help them make better decisions about development, user interface design, and marketing. Having grown from $200K to $37 million in revenue, StartApp is poised to be the Amazon of customer service information.

Nauto

While we were all anticipating the advent of driverless cars, still a hazy future promise, it occurred to our AI scientists that the experience of driving just isn’t documented enough to teach it to a robot. Nauto is one company helping to fix that, by building an autonomous driving data platform. Using cameras both exterior and interior, Nauto systems track both the road conditions and obstacles and the driver’s reactions, showing us what we respond to and how fast. It’s also aimed at reducing driver distraction and fatigue. With over $1 million in investor funding raised so far, the company aims first to enable better driver-assistance technology, before aiming at removing the need for a driver completely.

Evisort

Evisort is simple to explain: It’s “Google for contracts.” Except, rather than just automating text search, it’s an expert system trained for the legal profession, allowing it to parse out key dates, names, provisions, limitations, dollar amounts and legal clauses. This turns out to be a huge part of the day for anybody working in the legal profession, where the average lawyer might handle dozens of contracts numbering 30 pages or more per week. Human contract review is costly, time-consuming, and prone to errors, so an automated AI for contract management is something every legal worker wants. Evisort has raised over $5 million in investor funding and been praised in both Forbes and Harvard Law Review.

CloudBeds

The hospitality industry has been late to the party of industries changed by technology, but its turn has come. CloudBeds is a smart business management software for hotels, with an end-to-end platform that handles the unique challenges of property management and booking together with business management. The result is that hotels run better and make more money. Hotels, being a future-proof industry that online commerce can’t replace, are going to be around for a long time, and CloudBeds raising $20 million in investor funding shows that they’re going to be offering something every hotel wants.

SnapChat

The most senior member on this list, SnapChat has been in business for most of the 2010s, but it’s the social network platform with the brightest future. Just as Facebook took the crown from MySpace, everyone’s been counting the days until Facebook finds itself left behind by the next generation of web users. But which social network will it be? With a user base approaching 210 million people across 22 languages, SnapChat is a social network geared for the mobile platform and more favored by younger generations.

Conclusions…

Much of the technology in recent years is driven by the advent of large data and deep learning methods in artificial intelligence. There are many more industries that can be innovated to the same degree that the above list has been – aspiring entrepreneurs take note!

“History Repeats,” From Howard’s Debut Solo Album, Jaime, Nominated For Two GRAMMY Awards – Best Rock Performance And Best Rock Song

Howard Will Also Perform On “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”

On December 4 And “TODAY Show” On December 5

Brittany Howard will celebrate her two new GRAMMY nominations with a trio of television performances. Tune in tonight to see her perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She’ll visit “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” on Wednesday, December 4. On Thursday, December 5, Howard will perform on “TODAY Show” in the 8:00 AM hour and also during “3rd Hour TODAY.”

“History Repeats” – from her debut solo album, Jaime – has been nominated in two GRAMMY categories: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, bringing her total career nominations to 11. She has won four GRAMMY Awards in her role as lead vocalist/guitarist for the chart-topping band Alabama Shakes. View Howard performing “History Repeats” on “Later…With Jools Holland” HERE.

The New York Times observed, “‘History Repeats,’ the densely layered funk song that opens the album, links personal neuroses – recurring kinds of self-destructive relationships – and societal patterns.” NPR praised the track as “a swirling, punch-drunk and funk rumination on the ways repeated mistakes can hold us back.” Afropunk hailed it as “an instant anthem….and a metaphor for the human condition.”

Jaime, available HERE, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, MOJO and Q. “Stay High,” the album’s first single, spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. Views of the official video, which stars Terry Crews (“Everybody Hates Chris,” The Expendables films, Deadpool 2), have surpassed seven million.

Howard –who has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation – wrapped up her North American headline tour last week with performances at The Fillmore in San Francisco and the Fox Theater in Oakland. She spoke with the San Francisco Examiner about the genesis of Jaime in this feature. Her confirmed 2020 dates include a trio of UK shows and performances at the Highwater and Shaky Knees festivals. Additional dates will be announced soon.

Inua Partners in Hope

Judith A. Burnett, PhD, associate professor of counselor education at Stetson University, has been helping youth who are impacted by HIV/AIDS in Naivasha, Kenya in the Rift Valley Province, which is located northwest of Nairobi, collaboratively as a team member of Inua Partners in Hope for the past three years.

The nonprofit organization is a faith-based ministry that works to expand the opportunities of orphaned and vulnerable youth. Many of the youth have lost their parents to HIV or AIDS. Inua, which means to lift together, raise up or elevate in Swahili, helps them overcome poverty, malnutrition and illness in order to become self-sufficient and achieve long-term sustainability.

Youth are enrolled in the two-year Inua Partners in Hope program, which includes mentors and embraces the well-being of the whole child by focusing on life skills and the eight dimensions of wellness: emotional wellness, physical wellness, social wellness, occupational wellness, spiritual wellness, intellectual wellness, environmental wellness and financial wellness.

Mothers who are infected with HIV or AIDS can transfer the disease to their children. The program provides the youth with reproductive health information as part of their life-skills training, so they can receive education about the subject, medication and support if they are infected with the disease.

Dr. Burnett is an expert in reproductive health and felt her background and research could make a difference with the Kenyan youth.

Discussing reproductive health is a challenging subject, but Dr. Burnett is in the process of developing training that is culturally meaningful and relatable to both men and women.

In August, clinical mental health master’s student Joey Lynn Jachec, who is the project’s research assistant, delivered to the Kenyan team the collaboratively-designed mentor training curriculum and had an opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony. The opportunity was a life-changing experience where she was able to hear the graduates’ success stories and learn how Inua Partners in Hope provided them with the tools for success that helped them find a career and become self-sufficient.

There were 200 youth who participated in the program during the last youth program cycle. At the end of the program, 181 completed the graduation assessment.

Since the Inua Partners in Hope program began nine years ago, 437 youth have graduated and more than 2,000 youth have been impacted, which includes the graduates’ siblings and children.

Dr. Burnett and Joey Lynn discussed their Inua Partners in Hope involvement and the mental health curriculum for youth in Naivasha, Kenya during a presentation at the Webster Vienna Private University in Vienna, Austria in October. The presentation was well-received during the conference, which was hosted by the European branch of the American Counseling Association.

Getting Started in the World of Fashion Design

The realm of fashion is fast-paced, complex, and difficult to break into. Becoming a fashion designer is by no means easy.

But, it is possible.

Fashion is a huge industry, and needs creative people to continue pushing it forward into the future. Whether you’re looking to get into high fashion, low fashion, or anything in between, I’ll give you some tips about what you can do to increase your odds.

The first thing you need to do: learn to sew.

Luckily, sewing isn’t that hard to pick up; here’s a great list of books on sewing & dressmaking if you’re looking for inspiration to get started. The earlier you can start building your sewing chops, the quicker you’ll be at banging out mockups and even full-fledged pieces. Start with the easy things—hemming pants and dresses. Rip the buttons off your shirts and learn how to sew them back on. Make a pillowcase, cushion cover, or other small project. Just make sure you’re using the machine and learning a bit at the same time.

After you know your way around the machine…

Find inspiration and develop taste.

The fashion world is as big as it is complex, and caters to every taste imaginable. Developing and honing a great sense of taste will reflect in your design work and allow you to create pieces that are as cohesive as they are striking. Raw creativity is good, but it isn’t often that a jumbled mishmash of influences will actually look good. Find out what you like and look for the people who are doing it the best. Whether it’s fast-fashion trends, eclectic streetwear, or the ever esoteric high fashion, figure out what niche of the industry resonates with you the most. In the age of instagram and pinterest, this can be as easy as scrolling through feeds and hitting the double tap.

When you’ve found a bunch of things that you like, look for commonalities across them. Maybe you like a slim cut, maybe you like chunkier, soft vibes. Do you like monochrome or super colorful? High-waisted pants or dresses? Keep narrowing things down. Maybe the combination of tight pants and chunky tops strikes your fancy, or something else. Try to identify the elements that work as themes. Identify the patterns. It’s important to see the clothes and how they fit, so try to block out the faces of the models, the scenery, and lighting. Developing taste and knowing exactly what you like will help you a lot down the road, especially when developing a portfolio.

Hit the books:

You’re going to have a hard time getting a job in the fashion industry without a degree. A bachelor’s degree is good, but if you have the time and resources available to get your master’s, then your job prospects after education will likely be that much higher. Connections are huge in fashion, and a large part of the benefits of going to college is making those connections with your peers and instructors. College can also be a great place to find internships.

Internships are key to building real-world fashion experience and connections. They are almost as indispensable as an education in the field. You can also get experience through volunteering. So much of the industry consists of more than simply making clothes; internships provide a key to those hidden layers. There’s business, marketing, finances, and sales to consider. But beyond that, both college and internships will give you many chances to add to your portfolio.

The Portfolio…

…is your key to the fashion world. Your calling card. The first thing that potential employers know about you as a person and designer. Think of it as an actor’s reel or voice demo. Portfolios contain designs, technical drawings, finished and unfinished pieces, and mood boards. Compiling a portfolio is an intensely personal process and everybody’s is different, but if you’re having trouble starting there are plenty of guides online

The next step is clear:

Just start. If you’re too young for college, start learning how to use that sewing machine. If you don’t have a sewing machine yet, start drawing your design ideas and refining your tastes on pinterest, instagram, and other sites across the web. Find a designer that you like and read about how they got their start. Keep cracking away on your portfolio. The world of fashion is so exciting because there’s always something new on the horizon, waiting to be created or discovered. Get out there!

Choosing the Right Type of Windows Mississauga Bathroom.

Selecting the right type of windows Mississauga for your bathroom should not be something daunting if you understand what to look for in terms of energy efficiency and privacy. Although bathrooms are not some of the home areas where energy efficiency is of great concern, that doesn’t mean that you should consider this aspect when choosing windows for your bathroom. You should still select well-operating window units.

Apart from choosing high energy efficient window units, you should also make sure that your bathroom windows in Mississauga are offering sufficient ventilation to your bathroom. In addition to that, such window units should offer some privacy while at the same time letting natural light in.

  • Things You Ought To Know When Purchasing Bathroom Windows.

The bathroom usually receives a lot of humidity. All the moisture that builds-up in the air when you use a shower needs a place to go out. This is why it is essential to install at least a single window in your bathroom that is operable. Having an operable window in your home ensures that you don’t have to run your fun often.’ It re recommended to ventilate your bathroom for at least 15-20 minutes every day to minimise the levels of humidity in the air and avoid condensation formation on the windows.

There are many risks associated with poorly ventilated rooms. One of those dangers is mould growth that spreads to the walls and around the bathtub. Mould normally grows in warm and humid conditions, and your bathroom offers an excellent environment for mould to thrive. If nothing is done about it to prevent it from spreading, it can cause respiratory issues such as asthma and allergies, not to mention discolouration of the walls. However, if your bathroom is adequately ventilated, the issue of mould can be dealt with entirely.

  • Crank Windows for Bathroom.

If you are looking for energy-efficient replacement windows Mississauga for your bathroom that will offer you excellent energy efficiency, then you cannot get it wrong with crank windows, especially awning and casement windows.

As opposed to sliders that come with weather-stripping, crank windows are fitted with compression seal around the area where the frame meets with the moving sash. The work of a compression seal is to create a perfect airtight unit when you close the window and prevent heat loss. However, you should know that though these window styles are more energy-efficient, they come at a high cost, which is 15-20% more compared to sliding windows.

  • Awning Combination.

A more ingenious trick is to use awning windows together with the fixed windows Mississauga. Combining these two styles of windows helps boost energy efficiency while at the same time maintaining the operation of the windows and proper ventilation.

  • Slider Windows.

Though they cannot be compared with crank replacement Mississauga windows when it comes to energy efficiency, sliders are still an excellent option for homeowners. They are inexpensive compared to crank windows, but still, provide reasonable energy efficiency, and they allow you to open them when you want to allow natural light into your bathroom.

But as we said earlier, sliders depend on weather-stripping to fill the open space between the window sashes. These spaces are vulnerable to freezing, especially in cold winter months. So if you decide to use slider windows Mississauga, you may want to use them along other features such as Low-E coatings to enhance their energy efficiency, especially when temperatures drop below -20 degrees.

  • Multiple Windows Mississauga in Your Bathroom.

The main aspect of having windows in your bathroom is to offer ventilation while at the same time providing acceptable energy efficiency and privacy. That is why you should consider to install multiple windows and include some units that are operable to allow airflow in your bathroom and ventilate the room.

  • Privacy Glass.

Privacy is critical in bathroom replacement Mississauga windows. That is why bathroom windows should be fitted with privacy glass to prevent visibility but at the same time, be able to let in natural light in the bathroom.

However, if you are considering to use a privacy glass in your windows, remember different privacy glasses offer a different amount of light. So, be specific about what you need.

RJ WORD – Báilame

Chart-topping American pop-artist RJ Word and renowned Latin DJ Juan Magan have teamed up to create their latest electro-pop single “Báilame.” The single is laced with the live instrumentals of a sultry Spanish guitar and enriched with lively trumpets. The lyrics convey the seduction of getting carried away by the music and dancing the night away. As is RJ’s signature style, he takes an out of the box funk-infused approach to pop music, while Juan spices the track up with a Latin flare mixed into his electric beats.

The single was recorded and produced by RJ Word, Juan Magan, Austin Music, Fingazz and Karel Psota. The recordings took place across Los Angeles, Miami and Barcelona – picking up flavors of each of the cities it traveled through.

RJ and Juan recently collaborated on a few other electro-pop singles, including the 2018 summer Latin-trap anthem “Echa Pa’ Aca” with Pitbull and Rich The Kid. Upon release, the track soared across Spotify ‘New Music Friday’ playlists worldwide and the Apple Music charts. While the accompanying animated music video has since garnered over 21-million views on YouTube alone.

The two artists are sure to get fans up on their feet and moving with them on “Báilame” between their lustful multi-lingual lyrics, hip-swaying beat, and the smoothly pieced together contrast of their silky and raspy vocals.
