NEW ZEALAND WALKING TOURS

TRAIL TOURISM TAKES OFF

Active travel specialist New Zealand Walking Tours shares four favorites, both on and off the beaten trail

With trail tourism on the rise, many travelers are tying up their hiking boots and heading towards popular routes such as Spain’s Camino de Santiago, St. Olav’s Way in Norway, and the treks of the Swiss Alps. And with a rapid increase in urban development in many countries, hitting the trails is a no-brainer, and a great way to get back to nature, feel a sense of achievement and take in otherwise overlooked sights.

In New Zealand – the next hotspot for trail tourism – discover journeys that combine nature and spectacular landscapes on the four favorite trails of active tour operator, New Zealand Walking Tours.

1) Milford Track

The most famous of the Great Walks, the Milford Track is an experience adventurers won’t regret ticking off their bucket list. Trace the steps of Maori greenstone collectors, and enjoy taking in mountainous glaciers, lush rainforest and panoramic sights. Walk a 2 hour journey from Sandfly Point to Giant Gate Falls, and photograph this magnificent waterfall, one of the most captured images in the New Zealand. Hike past valleys that are millions of years old, and glance upon alpine passes. This track is recommended during the October to April season when weather conditions are warmer.

Follow the trail on the Beautiful South itinerary.

2) Hollyford Track

Situated in the Fiordland National Park, the Hollyford Track provides travelers with an amazingly varied experience within the park; discovering beautiful lakes, ancient rainforest and a whole range of wildlife. Again, best undertaken during New Zealand’s summer season, hikers can journey from Martins Bay Lodge to Long Reef Point and observe a local seal colony. Miles away from civilization and completely off the beaten track, this trail is perfect for those that want to disconnect from the noise of city life and keep off tourist-filled tracks.

Follow the trail on the Elegant South itinerary.

3) Spa Park to Huka Falls Track

An easy going option, the Spa Park to Huka Falls track is one of the most leisurely and picturesque walks to experience within New Zealand. Beginning in the breathtaking Lake Taupo region, hikers can expect 1.5 to 2 hours of flat pathways to the site of Huka Falls, a dramatic waterfall made popular in the film The Hobbit. The track has some of the most dramatic views, and is perfect for waterfall chasers.

Follow the trail on the Timeless North itinerary.

4) Glenorchy Walkway

Exploring a country on foot does not necessarily mean travelers need to yield high stamina. The Glenorchy Walkway is perfect for light easy exploration, and an ideal trail for families. The track is renowned for its multitude of wildlife, and walkers can spy a New Zealand falcon looking for prey or paradise ducks swimming slowly on the river. A recent addition of 1.7 km was added to this walk allowing trekkers more opportunity to discover this piece of paradise in the heart of New Zealand.

The Untitled Space × Defining Form

DEFINING FORM
A Group Show of Sculpture Curated by Indira Cesarine

RECEPTION: July 11, 2018
VIP + PRESS PREVIEW (by invitation) 4pm – 6pm //
OPENING RECEPTION 6pm – 9pm

EXHIBITION ON VIEW
July 11, 2018 – August 1, 2018

THE UNTITLED SPACE

45 Lispenard Street Unit 1W New York, NY 10013

The Untitled Space is pleased to present “DEFINING FORM,” a group exhibition of contemporary artists exploring 2 and 3-dimensional sculpture opening on July 11, 2018 and on view through August 1st, 2018. Curated by Indira Cesarine, “DEFINING FORM” takes a comprehensive look at the manifestations of contemporary sculpture today, engaging a dialogue of the narratives resonating amongst sculptors through works in mediums such as metal, stone, clay, wood, glass, textiles, recycled and repurposed materials, as well as mixed media.

DEFINING FORM presents figurative and abstract works by over 50 emerging and established artists. The group show investigates progressive themes in sculpture, including contemporary feminism, gender identity and political art, as well as new technologies in digital sculpture, with an emphasis on originality and innovative usage of materials. Technological advances in fabrication and digital sculpture have had a massive impact on the art form over the past few decades. Classic techniques such as chiseling stone and casting in bronze have shifted towards new technologies such as 3-D printing, materials such as silicone, plastics, and textiles as well as found, recycled and re-purposed materials. The domination of large-scale works has given way to delicate and intimate pieces as well as a wave of sculptural installations that deconstruct notions of space and form. Artists are pushing the boundaries of the art form integrating components of sound, video, light and performance as well as painting, photography and other mediums.

As the art form evolves in new directions with the impact of contemporary culture, it has transcended from the conventional portrait to works that challenge the status quo, address gender identity and racial stereotypes, LGBTQ ideologies and queer constructs, explore themes of the resistance movement as well as progressive feminist narratives and activism. Exhibit DEFINING FORM presents the new narrative of sculpture with works that interrogate ideologies of the art form, pushing forward experimental works that engage all of our senses and ignite fresh dialogues.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS

Alexandra Rubinstein, Andres Bardales, Ann Lewis, Arlene Rush, Barb Smith, Christina Massey, Colin Radcliffe, Cristin Millett, Daria Zhest, Desire Rebecca Moheb, Dévi Loftus, Elektra KB, Elizabeth Riley, Emily Elliott, Gracelee Lawrence, Hazy Mae, Indira Cesarine, Jackie Branson, Jamia Weir, Jasmine Murell, Jen Dwyer, Jennifer Garcia, Jess DeWahls, Jocelyn Braxton Armstrong, Jonathan Rosen, Kacy Jung, Kate Hush, Kelsey Bennett, Laura Murray, Leah Gonzales, Lola Ogbara, Maia Radanovic, Manju Shandler, Meegan Barnes, Michael Wolf, Nicole Nadeau, Olga Rudenko, Rachel Marks, Rebecca Goyette, Ron Geibel, Ronald Gonzalez, Roxi Marsen, Sandra Erbacher, Sarah Maple, Seunghwui Koo, Shamona Stokes, Sophia Wallace, Stephanie Hanes, Storm Ascher, Suzanne Wright, Tatyana Murray, Touba Alipour, Whitney Vangrin, Zac Hacmon

CURATORIAL STATEMENT

“What is sculpture today? I invited artists of all genders and generations to present their most innovative 2 and 3-dimensional sculptures for consideration for DEFINING FORM. After reviewing more than 600 artworks, I selected sculptures by over 50 artists that reflect new tendencies in the art form. DEFINING FORM artists defy stereotypes with inventive works that tackle contemporary culture. Traditionally highly male dominated, I was inspired by the new wave of female sculptors making their mark with works engaging feminist narratives. The artworks in DEFINING FORM explode with new ideas, vibrant colors, and display a thoroughly modern sensibility through fearless explorations of the artists and unique usage of innovative materials ranging from fabric, plastic, and foam to re-purposed and found objects including chewing gum, trash and dirt. Recycled materials are celebrated along with works engaging new digital technologies. The exhibit displays works that are politically charged, contrasted with those full of satire and humor. In the investigation of new tendencies, I felt it was important to juxtapose figurative works with the abstract, new materials with the classics, creating an immersive exhibit that defines new trends in sculpture and contemporary constructs of the art form.” – Indira Cesarine

PIRELLI AT 2018 PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB

PIRELLI CELEBRATES RECORDS AND VICTORIES ON BOTH FOUR AND TWO WHEELS

AT 2018 PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB

New Acura and Bentley records and the third best time in history by Simone Faggioli all achieved with Pirelli tires

June 28th2018ThePikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most esteemed motorsports events of the year. And as a leader in motorsports on both two and four wheels, Pirelli was of course present at this year’s event over the weekend, achieving success in both fields in the unique race up Pikes Peak hill in Colorado, which is the highest summit in the Southern front of the Rocky Mountains.

Rhys Millen(Bentley) set a new Pikes Peak SUV record time of 10:49.902 in the 2018 Bentley Bentayga, equipped withPirelli P Zero™road tires.

On Pirelli P Zero slick tiresAcuraachieved three new course records and three podium finishes as follows:

·PPC-Pikes Peak Open Class CourseRecordby Peter Cunningham in a 2018 Acura TLX GT: 9:27.352

·Hybrid Powertrain Course Recordby James Robinson in a 2017 Acura NSX: 10:02.448

·Front Wheel Drive Course Recordby Nick Robinson in a 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec: 10:48.094

The same P Zero slicks were used bySimone Faggiolito set a time of 8:37.230 in a 2018 Norma M20 SF PKP: this was the third best time ever with a combustion engine recorded in the history of the Pikes Peak event, which has been running since 1916. And this was the top overall time with a combustion engine at this year’s event.

Pikes Peak, the second oldest annual motorsports race in the United States, was also the occasion for Pirelli to present its completely renovatedPirelli Hillclimbrubber range. It includes a wet tire, a Cinturato, and three slick tires: Ultrasoft, Supersoft and Soft. And this really was the ultimate combination used by drivers utilizing Pirelli to take home their respective successes at Pikes Peak.

Also known as the ‘The Race to the Clouds’, Pikes Peak represents a very important technical challenge for the tires above all.

“The biggest challenge tires face is from the vast temperature changes participants experience during the course of the race at different elevations. At the start of the race, the average temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit, while at the top of the hillclimb it can be 32 degrees Fahrenheit or it can snow at the highest point (14,110 feet), like it did for the race on Sunday. Another difficulty comes from the bumpy asphalt, in part due to the tracks created from clearing the snow which can ruin it. Therefore it is necessary to develop a tire which guarantees grip both in high temperatures at the start and in lower temperatures as the drivers ascend the hill; as well as maximum driveability on uneven asphalt. And, considering the new records and success this year, this is exactly what Pirelli tires have done,” said Terenzio Testoni, Pirelli Off road Activity Manager.

Moving onto two wheels, Pirelli also attained the following results: a clean sweep of the Heavyweight Class on Pirelli tires, withCarlin Dunne(Ducati) in first place, thenRennie Scaysbrook(KTM) andCodie Vahsholtz(Ducati) in second and third on the podium respectively; plus a new Middleweight Class record by Chris Fillmore (KTM), who smashed the record by more than 30 seconds with a time of 10:04.38 to take the title on the iconicPirelli DIABLO™ SUPERBIKE(SC1 front, SC0 rear) tires.

Hard Rock Hotel Features Peter Max

The new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino opens in Atlantic City next Thursday, June 28 and along with it, a new Wentworth Gallery featuring iconic pop artist, Peter Max’s rock-and-roll works. Max is schedule for an appearance at the gallery himself on July 7.

Over his decades-long career, Peter Max has been connected to the world of rock through collaborations and friendships, painting portraits of famous rock icons, including The Beatles, Bono, Sting, Jimi Hendrix, Chrissie Hynde, Ringo Starr and many more. He’s been a 5-time official artist for The GRAMMYs and commissioned as the official artist for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 30th anniversary in 2015.

His love of rock and free expression also led him to play a large role in the history-making rock concert that helped end the Cold War, as the official artist and designer for the “Moscow Music Peace Festival”. The ground-breaking festival, known as the “Russian Woodstock,” had famous ’80’s glam metal rockers Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Ozzy Osbourne among others, all playing on the stage designed by Max.
