ComplexCon 2018

By Krishan Narsinghani

For the third annual year, ComplexCon takes over the greater LA area. Set in Long Beach, California, major brands and celebrities flooded their convention center to witness spectacular musical acts, speakers, brands and art. Over the two days, 360 Magazine visited various booths – Puma, Champion, Reebok, Pink Dolphin, 1800 Tequila, Cadillac and more. Reebok’s exclusive ComplexCon shoe, the R58 stunted vibrant colors and introduced all three logos shown for the first time.

Takashi Murakami, contemporary artist on the host committee, sprinkled his aesthetics across the summit (in addition to a collaboration with Drake’s OVO). 1800 Tequila partnered with artist Adam Lucas and streetwear designer Nicky Diamonds for custom-made vintage denim jackets which were raffled at this year’s program. Attendees waiting in line for the McDonald’s installation were treated with Mcnuggets and fries before choosing patches to press onto free backpacks and shirts.

Recording artist Tinashe was a 360 favorite. The urban singer performed hits “Company” and “2 On.” Other performances included Lil Baby, Nav and T-Pain while the crowd also bopped to headliners Rae Sremmurd and Future. Duo Sremmurd surprised fans with a special appearance from rapper Tyga.

ComplexCon(versations) topics revolved around today’s thought on politics, culture, fashion and music. Billboard producer of the decade, Pharrell Williams was a host due to his creative sense on the latest pop culture trends. Tommy Hilfiger spoke on his relationships with Hip-Hop and the connections between music and fashion. Jaden Smith and Yara Shahidi discussed growth out of chaos and how youth should address political issues. Rapper and icon, Nas, spoke on the behind-the-scenes of film, “Belly” and how it changed Hip-Hop and Hollywood.

Caesars Entertainment x Las Vegas Stadium

Caesars Entertainment Corporation announced today an unprecedented 15-year partnership that will make Caesars Entertainment (Caesars) the first founding partner of the Las Vegas Stadium, the future home of the Las Vegas Raiders, elevating Caesars’ profile in professional sports.

“The Raiders are proud to welcome Caesars Entertainment as a founding partner of Las Vegas Stadium,” said Marc Badain, President of the Raiders. “We are honored to align with a company that shares the Raiders’ values of improving the local community and delivering exceptional customer service in creating this transformative project.”

“Sports have long been a core part of the Caesars experience,” said Chris Holdren, Chief Marketing Officer for Caesars Entertainment. “With this deep partnership, Caesars will become an essential part of the game time ritual for Raiders fans everywhere. From activations to exclusive experiences, fans of the silver and black will see Caesars as their home on game day.”

The historic partnership also marks the first Raiders deal with a gaming and hospitality company, providing select Caesars Entertainment customers and Total Rewards members access to exclusive experiences like the customized Caesars-branded Owners Suite at the 50-yard line of the Las Vegas stadium, VIP Dinners on the field, training facility events, fantasy camp participation, stadium tours, along with tickets to home games and most stadium events.

As a Founding Partner, Caesars Entertainment will host a branded stadium entrance and drop off zone, digital signage, media, radio and print assets in addition to alumni, player and cheerleader appearances – giving the company a commanding presence.

This partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders follows the company’s recent announcement with the Baltimore Ravens, Maryland’s only partnership between a National Football League team and a casino.

The 65,000-seat stadium will bring 520,000 people to home games each year, when it opens for the 2020 NFL season.

Dita Eyewear Collaboration

DITA EYEWEAR is thrilled to announce an exciting new collaboration with the ever-dazzling Queen of Burlesque, DITA VON TEESE, as they bring a fresh twist to iconic eyewear. The bridgeless cat-eye frame, rendered in lightweight titanium and appointed with contemporary details, represents the convergence of two creative talents at the peak of their influence.

Dita Von Teese is uniquely suited to the challenge of revitalizing the classically styled frames with an exquisite modern twist. “The cat-eye is a well-worn style, a silhouette that rarely transcends the era in which it was created,” she explained. “My goal was to keep within the spirit of the 1950’s, but to craft our version in a slick, new way as a secret weapon for the modern Femme Totale.”

High-end craftsmanship and technology from DITA EYEWEAR’s creative studio provided the tools to achieve a distinctive new shape for the landmark partnership. A slender expanse of titanium spans the brow in a single, sinuous line, stripping away extraneous elements for the illusion of a floating lens. Sculptural details, from the hinge mount to harlequin-point titanium temples, were inspired by selections from Von Teese’s vast collection of vintage couture and curiosities.

Von Teese herself will also appear in the season’s advertising campaign, “SEEING DOUBLE,” which shadows a mysterious encounter with a doppelgänger in a sultry noir atmosphere.

DITA EYEWEAR FOR DITA VON TEESE arrives November 1st, 2018 and will be available at DITA.COM, DITA flagships, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and other fine eyewear boutiques.

Stars Acquire Taylor Fedun From Sabres

By Reid Urban

The Dallas Stars have gone out on the trade market to get some defensive depth.

Today, the team announced that it has acquired defenseman Taylor Fedun from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a conditional 2020 seventh-round pick.

That pick will only happen if Fedun plays 25 or more games with Dallas this season. So far, he’s only played nine games and all with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He has five assists with them. As for right now, he will remain at the AHL level, having been assigned to the AHL Texas Stars.

For the past five seasons, he’s bounced around a lot at the NHL level, having played in 46 games between the Oilers, Sharks, Canucks, and Sabres. His overall numbers are two goals and 13 assists, while averaging 14:08 per night on the ice. He’s also in the final deal of a two-year, two-way deal that pays him the league minimum at $650K at the NHL level and $300K in the AHL.

This move was necessary for Dallas, since they needed depth at the back end. They’ve had multiple injuries to players like Connor Carrick, John Klingberg, Stephen Johns, and Marc Methot. With that, it’s very likely that Fedun could be called upon if the injuries continue to mount.

True Religion Appoints Interim CEO

On November 1, True Religion announced that its board of directors has appointed board member Chelsea A. Grayson as its interim chief executive officer, following former CEO John Ermatinger’s decision to retire from the company. As a result of that appointment, Ms. Grayson will step down as the chair of the Audit Committee but will continue to serve on True Religion’s board of directors.

“As a board member for the past year, Chelsea has been instrumental in helping True Religion evolve the brand,” said Gene Davis, chair of the True Religion board, “We are fortunate to have someone of Chelsea’s caliber and experience step up to lead the company as we continue to innovate our products and customer experience. In addition, we would also like to recognize and thank John for his incredible leadership and dedication to the brand.”

Ms. Grayson said, “As a Los Angeles native, I am honored to have been chosen to lead an iconic brand like Los Angeles-based True Religion. I look forward to continuing the momentum started with recent initiatives like adding Bella Hadid as a millennial face of the brand and our partnership with global sports juggernaut, Manchester United.”

While Ms. Grayson serves as interim CEO, True Religion intends to conduct a process to identify a permanent CEO.

Before joining True Religion’s board of directors last year, Chelsea Grayson was the CEO and a board member of American Apparel. She also sits on the board of directors of Delta Dental of California (where she is a member of the Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee), and the advisory board of Marca Global.

“Pizzazz” follows up the runaway viral success of his recently released Snow Cougar EP, which features a bevy of bangers. “Mr. Clean” recently eclipsed 104 million Spotify streams, and “1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot” surpassed 46 million streams. Inspired by everyone from OutKast, Nate Dogg, Curren$y, and Action Bronson to Patrice Rushen and The Blackbyrds; Yung Gravy ditched class and took to SoundCloud to begin releasing music in 2016. The first song he uploaded, “Karen”, quickly garnished new fans and stirred a palpable buzz online. His first EP, Mr. Clean, went viral on the strength of “Continental Breakfast”—which cracked the 1.4 million mark on Soundcloud. Sandwiching a sample of The Chordettes’ “Mr. Sandman” between raunchy and raw rhymes, the title track “Mr. Clean” soundtracked countless fan videos and ignited 9.6 million Soundcloud plays in under a year. Throughout 2017, he prolifically unleashed a string of nonstop music, including Thanksgiving’s Eve, Yung Gravity EP, and Baby Gravy EP. Soon, he reached #1 on Indify and had labels knocking at his door. CLICK HERE to check out Yung Gravy’s new Pac Man video game via Spotify.

Fiat, 360 MAGAZINE

FIAT TRACK DAY

By Anthony Sovinsky × Vaughn Lowery

The Fiat has a voluminous history of performance and style dating back over 50 years. This Italian gem was first introduced to North America in March 2011 and featured the Fiat 500c, 500 Abarth, 500e, 500L and the 500x. And for 2018-2019 they are reintroducing the Fiat 124 Spider for the current generation, featuring modern styling, engineering science and enhanced performance with traces of the original Italian roadster design.

The 2019 124 Spider is an Italian coupe/convertible roadster powered by a 1.4L Turbo Motor 6-speed manual/auto transmission, making it the most powerful 4-cylinder turbo in its category. Producing up to 164hp and 184 lb-ft of torque in the Abarth edition, it is uniquely responsive. Our test Abarth had added racing and performance characteristics that include upgraded aggressive racing facia, branded floor mats, Record Monza exhaust tuning kit and Recaro racing seats.

The other test vehicle was Fiat Abarth 500c – a stout, preppy looking vehicle upon first glance, really reminiscent of its predecessors that were designed to navigate the narrow roadways of Italy. But with closer inspection of the Abarth 500, you will notice subtle performance enhancements: 16-inch hyper black wheels; red brake calipers; Abarth bashing; performance spoiler; turbo boost gauge and dual bright exhaust tips. This affords it a rather large presence in a metropolis like Los Angeles, where the typically more car is better, but the fiat begs to differ.

At first glimpse, you wouldn’t think much of these vehicles from a performance standpoint. Withal, 360 Magazine was cordially invited to Willow Springs Raceway by Fiat Chrysler North America. And education was provided by Skip Barber Racing School to help us take full advantage of the performance capabilities introduced for the upcoming year.

The track day started off at the the rallycross. The rallycross is designed to highlight the braking and handling capabilities of the nimble go kart-like Fiats. With quick turns and short straight always you can feel exactly how balanced and responsive these vehicles are. With the 124’s front and rear Blistein sport suspension, mechanical limited slip differential and front strut tower bar paired with a Brembo braking system it allows the vehicle to perform as desired, a true one with the car experience.

Side by side, we were shuttled to the skid pad. Here, we were able to identify how the Fiat handles on slippery terrain in a tight circle. This course was created to heighten our connection to the throttle, steering wheel and our eyes. As we continued to increase in acceleration the Spider would start to lose grip as we tried to keep a tight radius, but thanks to accurate feedback from the steering rack, throttle and Brembo braking systems you are able to keep the vehicle in complete control.

Then it’s off to the track. This is where the real fun began. Both the 500 and 124 Spider performed astoundingly. A Dodge Hellcat was our pace car as a line of us followed in tandem around the streets of Willow Springs Raceway. It was an unbelievable experience to be able to push these vehicles to their limits, highlighting just how well these vehicles are engineered.

The 2019 Fiat 124 Spider starts standard at $24,995 or $27,795 for the Classica which adds some cosmetic upgrades and some convenience options. $29,290 for the Lusso which comes with the Abarth performance package. A big bang for the buck for a sporty iconic Italian vehicle.

The 2019 500c comes standard at $16,245 and the Abarth package coming in at $21,995. Apart from the aforementioned performance upgrades on the Abarth, it comes with a track experience! Yes, you can stretch your Fiat’s legs on the track like we did just so you can come to appreciate the unique design and performance capabilities that this vehicle was intended to express.

DEF JAM’S 17-YEAR-OLD PHENOM

In an era where there seems to be a side-story of viral fame or leveraging online connections to rise to the top, 17-year-old high school student Bernard Jabs has carved his budding career out from pure authenticity. In Bernard Jabs’ first uploaded track, Gotta Get It, there is the obvious sound of his younger teenage voice, but within that sound is also the raw skill Bernard holds. His ability to channel the charisma of the music he grew up on and blend it with more current rap trends keeps Bernard circulating as one of the brightest new talents of a generation.

Growing up in Tifton, Georgia during part of the height of Southern rap, Bernard gravitated towards the star power of Lil Wayne. After seeing Wayne in the music video for “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy,” Bernard was entranced in the lifestyle – the cars, the girls, the money, the confidence. Bernard Jabs took to the culture surrounding southern rap and used that history to guide him towards the future.

Yung Fume Releases New Single

Today, Payday Records’ South London rapper Yung Fume releases his latest single “Again,” following the release of his last EP Too Much Wave 2 which dropped in August.

“Again” catches the listener’s ear immediately with an ethereal and echoey choral sound in the background, complimented with stand-out deep bass punches. Fume’s flow highlights the intensity of the instrumentals, opening with the line, “I just made some profit, it’s logic, double again”- the song is an ode to the glory that comes with the guts of the music industry.

Between the bass, fast 808’s, and Fume’s tenacious lyrics, this is the classic baller’s anthem. Titling the song “Again” highlights the importance of consistency in the music game, a proclamation that Fume must keep grinding and getting the bag, time and time again.

“It’s about doing something and being able to do it again,” Fume says about the track, “That’s the only reason I do this!”

Fume has been grinding nonstop over the past three years releasing projects that include his most recent Payday Records debut EP Level Up in March produced by Atlanta hitmaker Zaytoven along with a trailblazing  iOS arcade-style mobile game called ‘Yung Fume Level Up!’ (soundtracked by two songs from the EP “Zone” and “Life I’m Living”), Too Much Wave 2, Too Much WaveNoughts and CrossesNoughts and Crosses 2 and Noughts and Crosses 3, along with his crossover rap/pop banger “Watch me Flex” being remixed by both Tinie Tempah and Wizkid. He recently went viral with an in-studio clip laying down a new track with Chicago rapper, Lil Durk. Also headlining London’s O2 Academy, and major festival performances at Wireless Festival and Shard Fest, he continues to make big strides in the industry as the years progress.
