Black Phoenix

When people hear the word “Phoenix” they are reminded of the mythological story about the “Phoenix rising from the ashes.” Like most stories as legend would have it part of it is correct. Take the story of Nicholas Mayfield, if you’ve been involved in the world of fashion since 2009; Even now, you may recognize his work. His current day notables are pieces such as the extended t-shirts and the button ups to drop crotch pants and joggers just to name a few.

In recent times Nicholas Mayfield has been labeled as the designer from whom the couture brand Gucci has stolen his “strawberries” and “black faces” designs which are one of the many staples of his brand. The theft of the “strawberries” and “black faces” was the topic to L.A. Fashion Week on the Wonderland Artist 2nd Headlining Appearance, with his show “God Moves” in 2018 and in 2019 with “In The Dark There’s The Spark.”

The unique evolutionary visions of Nicholas’ mind captivate the audience to be engaged in the ideas that are the kaleidoscope of Nicholas ‘mind. As a designer Nicholas uses elements of urban everyday street life and couture fashion as the perfect combination to represent his influence on popular culture.

In the United States there are approximately 103 species of strawberries; Why do you believe Gucci bit off your strawberries and black faces?

Nicholas was contacted by well over 100 different followers, friends and clientele within 48 hours with his designs side by side with Gucci’s product. “I dropped born of an immigrant,” in 2017 a collaboration I did with barely broke on brown and black hard labor as in relevance to America’s Foundation; long before Gucci dropped their collection in 2019. Also, my strawberries are hand painted which creates the uniqueness individually personalized hand painted pieces which are done by my signature hand, the essence of my designs and style.” -Nicholas Mayfield

Growing up Mayfield

As a child Nicholas began drawing at the tender age of 5. He had aspirations of being a cartoonist and drawing comic books early in life. At the impressionable age of 7 years old, Nicholas had plans for a friend to spend the night, therefore his parents bought pizza, drinks and snacks and rented movies all in efforts for a great night. However Nicholas’ friend didn’t show up, Nicholas’ father saw the devastation and disappointment on his son’s face, as Nicholas went to the table and began to draw. Drawing had always been his outlet of expression. Nicholas’s father looked at him and said, “son keep drawing your characters, those are your friends.” The inspiration that Nicholas received in that moment from his father would allow him to trust in himself, and commit himself to his artistic endeavors.

People believe the Phoenix wings are on fire when it flies out of the ashes, yet the bird still soars. The mythological story beholds intrigue of supernatural phenomenon just like the characters Nicholas Mayfield drew as a child.

NM what has been up with you?

I am having a full circle moment right now, I feel like it is the 2006 Soulful Commando warehouse in Corona all over again; which began with just 5 t-shirt designs. I recently released my “Nicholas Mayfield Over Everything Collection”; which is a retrospective collection after years of designing I felt like taking it back to the drawing board of what created me to be me. I’m gassed with my first wave of hats and t-shirts being released. It’s like the art I first started doing, so it’s cool.

Has any of the social climate stemming from the murder of George Floyd by the police affected your creativity?

Oh absolutely I am a Black man of God first, not only that, “our now” is always a platform to express what is happening for the current time. I have the responsibility to let those coming after me know what the world looks like and to pay homage to those who came before me. While doing this I saw two of my brothers yesterday and what I love and appreciate more than anything is true success; it’s that we are men now, some of us are fathers; yet most importantly pillars in our community killing the Willie Lynch mentality. For God is in Us. When we were younger they called us dreamers, now they love our world that they are now apart of.

An unknown part about the Black Phoenix is that it gets burned over a funeral pyre (the burning wood for cremation). As the Black Phoenix rises it is completely renewed and a new life cycle begins

Nicholas Mayfield is a Black Phoenix. As the seasons change, his creative perspective is constantly evolving. The transformations of his interpretations of design remains progressive and renewed. His focus is to continue to “be” as it has always worked; Nicholas Mayfield continues to rise as delivers his style on a future wave. In fashion when your friend copies you, their unoriginal; When Gucci bites off of you, you’re a Trendsetter. As an independent artist Nicholas Mayfield was bent not broken as a Black designer he knows everything is earned and nothing is given. It is his unique originality that allows him to rise from the ashes, when a bird is meant to fly nothing can stop it. Not even getting burned.

Rise of Influencers and Success Tips

Over the course of the past few years, we’ve seen the term “influencer” unfold into a new category of jobs within the market. Influencers are essentially tastemakers of a certain genre that work prominently via digital platforms to shape a certain trend or lifestyle. We’ve seen influencers on social media, but it also stems further to where creators first started on YouTube and bloggers online.

We’ve even see influencers like ChadGoesDeep fight for influencer rights within the LA community, and reinforcing the fact that it’s a leading industry that hasn’t been been looked at properly in today’s society. Traackr, an influencer management platform, claims that seventy-two percent of notable brands dedicate a strong portion of their marketing spends to influencers.

With the rise of apps like TikTok (which claim they aren’t going anywhere in the US), the most downloaded app on the App Store, teens seem to become millionaires through quick viral moments that in return start a brand for themselves. Now we see influencers in the realms of food, auto, tech, music, fashion, travel and everything in-between. Cultivating your passion through social media can open more doors than you’d think.

Figuring out the algorithm has been a mystery to all. Here are some key tips to remember. Posts tend to do better in the morning/afternoon. Make sure your photos and videos are high res and collect post of your engagement on Instagram during the first to ensure it’s position towards the top of your fans’ feeds. Most importantly in today’s society, influencers need to curate original contest that is authentic. TikTok posts spark vitality with relatable or authentic content that distinguishes itself from all other platforms. It’s suggested to start posting on Triller as well.

With the overflow of new creator platforms and digital agencies, it can be hard to filter with are trustworthy and legit. John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” 60th Anniversary Album

“John Coltrane’s Giant Steps is one of the most important albums in American music history.” – Pitchfork

The John Coltrane Estate and Atlantic Records (Rhino Records) announce an upcoming release of Coltrane’s remastered jazz sensation, Giant Steps. Fans can expect 8 alternate takes or bonus tracks on the LP and CD physical pieces and 20 extra tracks on the super deluxe edition available on steaming platforms and digital downloads.

Along with the release, the Coltrane estate is giving away a Pro-ject turntable in celebration of the announce. Rules indicate to follow John Coltrane on Spotify.

Over 60 years ago, John Coltrane embarked on principal recording sessions for his first Atlantic album that became “Giant Steps,” less than two weeks after completing work with Miles Davis on what would become “Kind of Blue.” This was Coltrane’s first album comprised entirely of original compositions.

‘Giant Steps,’ the title track, has become one of the most legendary recordings in all of jazz history for its virtuosity. Pianist, Tommy Flanagan, originally thought that the song was a ballad when first reviewing the score, with its 26 chord changes in the 16-bar theme that has challenged musicians since its inception.

Huge Explosion In Beirut

According to CNN, there was a massive explosion in Beirut just now. Shattering glass and debris followed by monstrous amounts of smoke.

A Massive explosion hit an ammunition storage in the port of Beirut. Many Lebanese civilians have been affected, houses have been burned down, glass has been shattered and there has been fatalities.

This blast has not just hit Beirut’s Eastern areas next to the port but has destroyed many key infrastructure building like hospitals, infrastructure buildings, kilometers away, including the headquarters of former prime minister Saad Hariri. The explosive could be heard all the way to the Bekka valleys capital Zahle 56 kilometers away. Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from Beirut stated, “The explosion was felt across the city.” She added, “There is chaos in the streets.” Tensions are higher than ever.

The source of the explosion is still unknown.

New RR Ghost

In autumn this year, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will make an historic announcement in launching new Ghost. This product follows the first Goodwood Ghost, which became the most successful motor car in the marque’s 116-year history.

More than six years ago, a team of luxury intelligence specialists, designers, engineers and craftspeople assembled to begin development of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost. Like the first Goodwood Ghost, launched in 2009, this collective would work obsessively to ensure that New Ghost would hold its own place in the Rolls-Royce portfolio and represent a unique set of client values.

Since the introduction of Ghost, which became the most successful Rolls-Royce in history, the marque’s unique proximity its clients afforded the team access to a large body of information. It revealed the divergent interests, opinions and changing taste patterns within Ghost clients’ appreciation of luxury. This primary research allowed them to create a product myopically focussed on the requirements of these remarkable men and women. These insights were what informed the designers, engineers and craftspeople at Rolls-Royce as they moved into the development phase of the highly progressive new Ghost.

As with all primary research conducted by the marque’s specialists, these experts were also asked to present their findings. In this short film, Rolls-Royce shares some of these insights to demonstrate the underlying substance of the highly progressive new Ghost ahead of its official unveiling in autumn this year.

The series begins with Rolls-Royce Designer Henry Cloke, who identified an emerging aesthetic defined by purity and minimalism, internally codenamed Post Opulence. Cloke says, “We found that Ghost clients sought objects that are effortlessly, almost instinctively exceptional. They rejected busy details and flash gimmicks, instead seeking extremely high quality, thoughtfully designed pieces that stand up to the most intense scrutiny. This philosophy defined new Ghost’s minimalist design treatment.”

The marque elected to use the increasingly popular medium of animated illustrations to convey these insights. Renowned illustrator, Charlie Davis, was chosen to cohesively and beautifully represent these findings in a fashion that befits the highly progressive new Ghost.

In addition to these insights presented in animation form, a series of five podcasts have been launched that reveal the marque’s findings, as well as insights into the underlying material and engineering substance of new Ghost in long form. Hosted by Johanna Agerman Ross, Curator of Twentieth Century and Contemporary Furniture and Product Design at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the podcasts are available on Apple, Google, Spotify and Deezer.

After the American public responded to Kanye West’s announcement to run for President in the upcoming election, Kim Kardashian West felt that it was necessary to speak out about her husband and address certain issues that she wants to communicate to the public. There has been a great deal of mixed rhetoric surrounding Kanye’s announcement to run for President, especially since many of his followers know he suffers from Bi-polar disorder and makes extremely controversial statements from time to time.

According to CNN Entertainment, through the use of Instagram stories, Kim expressed her perspective regarding Kanye, and proceeded to claim that he is a “brilliant but complicated” person. Although Kanye has been pretty open about his mental health in the past, Kim and others close to him have spoken up about how he should receive any mental health support he needs. In short, Kim publicized her thoughts and comments about Kanye to those who follow his actions in order to gain “compassion and empathy” on his part.
