McLaren and Pirelli Automobile Photo from Pirelli

Pirelli × McLaren 765LT

In exciting automobile news, Pirelli is to exclusively equip the new McLaren 765LT. The two companies have been set on a mission to deliver as much performance as possible on dry-weather for the luxury British supercar company’s fastest-ever Super Series car to lap a circuit. The P Zero Trofeo R tire was chosen as the starting point for this latest collaboration; this tire is Pirelli’s best-performing track day tire and is entirely road legal. Now, the Trofeo R has been further refined in a joint effort from Pirelli and McLaren to meet the high-performance requirements of this latest car, following some intense work from Pirelli’s renowned research and development division. For drivers who are less inclined to use their cars on track, the Pirelli P Zero tires are also available.

Speed and Safety

The new McLaren 765LT announces its sporting intentions with a 765-horsepower engine that puts out 800 Nm of torque to deliver the ultimate in performance, as well as aerodynamics that place plenty of load through the bespoke P Zero Trofeo R tires. To meet McLaren’s need for a tire that is bespoke to the 765LT, Pirelli’s engineers have worked on the structure and profile of the tires.

Another fundamental element in achieving McLaren’s objectives was the tread pattern compound. The design of the tread pattern has been designed to guarantee the best possible road holding both in a straight line and through corners, reducing braking distances and maximising lateral grip. All this extra performance from the tires, allied with the innovative capabilities of the new 765LT itself, has allowed the car to go faster round a circuit than any other car ever produced in Woking.

Collaboration Between Pirelli and McLaren

The new P Zero Trofeo R created for the McLaren 765LT represents the latest tire born out of the long collaboration between Pirelli and McLaren, which also draws on the extensive lessons learned from motorsport by both companies. Every vehicle leaves the McLaren Production Centre with its own specific Pirelli tire, tailor-made for that particular car and distinguished by a distinctive ‘MC’ marking on the sidewall. Some of these tires are additionally equipped with other Pirelli technologies such as PNCS – Pirelli Noise Cancelling System – which guarantees maximum acoustic comfort inside the car.

Visit Sweden’s Healing Through Nature

Lockdowns, isolation, and working from home have caused elevated levels of stress for many people: 45% of Americans say they experience anxiety because of the pandemic, according to a UN report. But there are ways to alleviate the stress. Research shows that spending time in nature lowers stress levels – one of the many benefits of grabbing a few minutes to enjoy some greenery or planning a getaway in the great outdoors.

The positive effects were tested through Visit Sweden’s very own initiative, “The 72-Hour Cabin.” With participants from major cities who had demanding jobs, participants were examined before and after spending three consecutive days in the Swedish countryside where they slept in glass cabins next to water. The study proved that being outdoors surrounded only by nature dramatically reduced negative emotions and lowered stress levels.

In Sweden, 70% of the country is covered with forest, and nature is easy to reach, with open fields and meadows, old-growth forests, quiet lakes, miles of coastlines, and thousands of islands. Swedes have a unique Freedom to Roam, The Right of Public Access (‘Allemansrätt’), which maintains that everyone has the right to walk, cycle, ride, ski and camp on any land. With this, it is no wonder Swedes maintain an unusually close relationship to nature and draw from the healing power of spending time outside.

“Natural environments are an important resource for meeting the health challenges in our society. Research shows that time spent outdoors reduces negative emotions and stress, and promotes positive emotions, mental recovery, and performance,” says Cecilia Stenfors, a researcher at the Aging Research Center at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and the University of Chicago, USA.

As nature experiences are an effective way to provide a bit of normality after months of pandemic-related stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Below are five ways to incorporate a bit of green in your life, as illustrated by the Swedes:

  • You only need twenty minutes in nature to reduce stress, so there is no excuse not to pop outside for a few moments, even a lunch time walk will help clear your mind.
  • Boost your mental health by taking your meal outside. Swedes dine al fresco nearly all year round and enjoy foraging in nature’s own pantry. For inspiration, check out Visit Sweden’s outdoor dining and do-it-yourself cooking concept, Edible Country.
  • Enjoy outdoor activities like the Swedes with cooking, hiking, canoeing, and mountain biking, all of which have proven long-lasting effects on their well-being.
  • According to a meta-analysis from the University of East Anglia, published in Environmental Research, nature can lower your blood pressure, cortisol, and heart rate. For those living in cities, even surrounding yourself with indoor plants or even gazing at pictures or videos of nature can be soothing.
  • When the time is right, book a trip to enjoy Sweden’s lush landscape and stay high up in the Tree Hotel, or experience a glass cabin, house boat, or maybe even a lighthouse.

Coffee Capitals of America

By Hannah DiPilato

With National Coffee Day on September 29 followed by International Coffee Day on October first, Wren Kitchen delved into the nation’s coffee-drinking habits to see which states have the greatest consumption of everyone’s favorite hot beverage.

Their research revealed that The United States drinks 48 billion cups of coffee each year, they have discovered the number one coffee capital of the United States, and the data shows which region has the highest demand for the caffeinated favorite.

Coffee represents much more than just a drink. It’s a wakeup call bright and early in the morning, a chance to catch up with old friends or a moment for yourself in the middle of a chaotic workday. Pouring yourself a cup of coffee in your kitchen sets you up for the busy day ahead.

There’s no doubt The United States is a coffee-loving nation and a new report by Wren Kitchens has revealed which state craves coffee the most. They have also illustrated which iconic landmarks each state could build with coffee cups based on the coffee consumption of citizens. Grab a cup of joe and read on to find out how your state ranks.

Oregon has been crowned the ultimate coffee capital drinking over 113 Empire State buildings worth of coffee every year. The Beaver State shows that it’s citizens drink the most coffee based on the demand for coffee and population size.

The state consumes more than 624 million cups of coffee per year and if you were to stack up this number of coffee cups in real life, Oregon would drink enough coffee to create 113 Empire State buildings each year.

With Oregonians having such an appetite for their cup of Joe, search data shows that 2.1% of the states 4.2 million goes online to search for their caffeine fix each month

The second-largest coffee-loving state is Colorado. With a population of 5.7 million, the state of Colorado drinks 852 million cups of coffee every year. The search data reveals that 1.9% of Coloradans head online to look up their nearest coffee spot.

Washington state follows on the list with the third-most online coffee searches, 1.8% of the state’s population searching for java each month, and more than 1.1 billion coffees consumed each year. This is no surprise coming from the state that founded Starbucks.

When searching to find the region that drinks the most coffee, the west coast takes the prize. With three of the top five states having the greatest demand for coffee based on the Pacific, the West Coast is the place they pay homage to the barista. Nowhere more can this be seen than California with the state sipping more than 5.8 billion cups of the steaming beans.

The data was gathered by looking at search volumes against the population and the average amount of coffee consumed per person. Data for this research was collected from worldatlas.com, statista.com, ncausa.org and The United States Census Bureau, Population Division.

To work out the coffee capitals, volumes per state surrounding coffee were researched and were calculated as a percent of the state’s population. Then the height, area, and dimensions of landmarks in the US were looked at; before working out the number of 12oz coffee cups it would take to fill each landmark. Finally, how many times each state could cover each landmark with the number of cups of coffee they consume each year was worked out.

Jonny Bowden’s Nutrition Advice

Have shelter-in-place comfort foods
put your healthy diet on the back shelf?

Nutrition Myth Buster Jonny Bowden says toss out the old nutrition advice along with the junk food. It’s time to start fresh before you start having health issues.

It’s no big surprise that some processed foods, such as boxed macaroni and cheese, have been enjoying a renaissance lately. People are stressed. Grocery prices are rising. And given all the confusing nutrition advice coming at us, surely someone … somewhere … has done a study that says sugary snacks are good for you. Yeah, not so fast. Step away from the toaster pastries.

“Many high salt, high carb comfort foods are only going to make you gain weight, feel worse and could ultimately damage your health,” cautions Nutrition Myth Buster Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., CNS. “You’ll actually start feeling better and have more energy once you begin eating more nutritious foods.”

But here’s the dilemma: When it comes to dietary advice, who do you believe?

Some dietary advice on mainstream websites is decades out of date

“The dietary advice issued by various organizations is often a mix of old and new data. It’s not in line with what those of us who study this continually are telling people today. It takes way too long for some of these big organizations to incorporate the current scientific thinking into the mantras that they’ve been repeating for sometimes decades,” says Bowden.

“Another reason why it’s so hard to get a straight answer about foods is that they don’t fall into perfect categories. For example, some saturated fats are very healthy for you. And some unsaturated fats should be avoided at all costs!”

He elaborates, “Saturated fats such as ghee, palm oil, butter and coconut oil have been absolved of being bad for your health. Meanwhile, canola, sunflower, corn and soy are now known to be highly inflammatory!”

Film exposes the misinformation and why we’re so confused!

In the new feature length documentary Fat Fiction, Bowden and other leading health experts examine the facts and myths of saturated fats in the human diet, and question why medical advice has remained the same for decades as health issues proliferate in America.

“In the film, we share more than a decade of published research confirming that fat, particularly saturated fat, was wrongly demonized. It is not a causative factor in heart disease. Worse, the low-fat dietary guides we’ve been following since the 1980s were never based on hard science,” says Bowden.

So what should we be eating?

Bowden, the best-selling author of “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth,” gives three tips for choosing what foods to include in your diet:

  1. “Check your sources for all articles on health and nutrition. A single study should never be the basis of your nutritional decisions, because studies contradict each other all the time. And don’t buy into the infomercial stuff about “clinical studies” supporting the latest fat-burner. Those are usually done in someone’s office and not subject to any peer review.

“Wait for multiple studies, completed by reputable universities, confirming the same outcomes. And even then be aware of things like who funded the study and who benefits from the results. There may be no way to avoid commercial interests in scientific research, but at least it’s good to be aware of it.”

  1. Be open to learning about ingredients you may want to add to your diet. “For example, some people are hyper-focused on palm oil. They’d have you believe that it’s bad for you and the environment. They also are stuck in the old 1950s notion that “saturated fat is bad for you.” Both beliefs are wrong. Some countries — notably Malaysia — are passionately committed to the environment. The palm oil from Malaysia is sustainably produced. Real Malaysian palm oil is one of the healthiest cooking oils I know of.

“Malaysian palm oil is also a rich source of vitamin E tocotrienols which support heart and brain health. And heart health is a huge concern in this country! It’s also a nutritious replacement for trans fats.”

  1. Eat real food: food your great-grandmother would have recognized as food. “Eat from what I call the “Jonny Bowden Four Food Groups”: food you could hunt, fish, gather or pluck. Stay away from overly processed and get back to basics.”

St. Helena Celebrates Napoleonic Heritage

ST. HELENA LAUNCHES ‘NAPOLEON 200’ CAMPAIGN TO COMMEMORATE NAPOLEONIC HERITAGE

Starting this fall, the remote South Atlantic island of St. Helena is hosting a series of events and special projects surrounding its Napoleonic heritage. The campaign, under the auspices of The British Napoleonic Bicentenary Trust, marks 200 years since Napoleon died on the island to which he was exiled after the French defeat at the 1815 Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon allegedlydied of stomach cancer on May 5, 1821 at Longwood House, one of the most visited historic sites on St. Helena. In 1840, his coffin was disinterred and transported to Paris where it was reburied beneath the dome of the des Invalides.

Located 1,200 miles from Africa and 1,800 miles from South America, St. Helena (pronounced St. Hel-EE-na) is one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands. As Napoleon’s place of exile, the island is home to numerous heritage sites; and valleys dotted with forts and flag stations built to ensure Napoleon could not escape.

The Trust has two main objectives: to preserve the island’s at-risk heritage sites, and to promote new perspectives on the story of Napoleon on St. Helena.

To preserve the island’s heritage, two projects have been announced. The first is the restoration of Toby’s Cottage, a building that housed the aristocratic Balcombe family’s slaves – including a man named Toby. The cottage is one of a few surviving dwellings of enslaved Africans on the island. There are also plans for a new Heritage Trail, encompassing several historical sites.

The campaign will feature a series of online events. These aim to commemorate the death of Napoleon in a respectful manner, acknowledging the complicated legacy of his rule, defeat and death.

In May 2021, there will be several intimate memorialization events at the graveside of several notable individuals of the Napoleonic period. Virtual experiences will include 3D ‘visits’ to the island’s main Napoleonic sites. More information on the British Napoleonic Bicentenary Trust and Napoleon 200 can be found at:www.napoleon200.org

ABOUT ST. HELENA: St. Helena is one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands, located in the middle of the South Atlantic, 1,200 miles from Africa. St. Helena Tourism is dedicated to the conservation of its diverse and unique animal, plant, and marine life, and eager to welcome visitors to come to the island. Starting in 2020, St. Helena became accessible by regular flights from Johannesburg, as well as season services from Cape Town.

The Canary in the Constitutional Mine Is Gasping

By Marilyn M. Singleton, MD, JD

Constitution Day passed us by without the celebration it richly deserved. Limiting the powers of the federal government is at the core of our Constitution. Ten years ago, the Affordable Care Act tested the limits of federal powers. The barely-noticed federal takeover of student loans, the mandated purchase of health insurance from a limited list of insurers with a limited list of doctors were only the start. The federally defined “essential” medical services were a roadmap for future government controls. We are now living through the consequences of government deciding what activities are “essential” in the lives of normal, sentient human beings.

Some congresspersons and assorted social justice warriors are treating the Constitution like the COVID-susceptible residents of New York nursing homes: expendable. Or like the 26,000 dementia patients whose death was hastened by the isolation resulting from unscientific lockdowns.

The First Amendment is irrelevant for those whom the leftist mob detests. The mob and its social media enablers reserve freedom of speech for high-minded virtue signalers. Conservatives or libertarians need not apply. COVID-19 provided a justification for abridging freedom of assembly and religious freedom. Is openly professing one’s faith not essential to our well-being? Certainly, religious services where congregations can easily be instructed on safely participating in group worship presents less risk than sauntering through Walmart.

The Second Amendment erosion continues despite gutting police departments and the resultant rapidly increasing violent crime, including 710 more homicides than this time last year. Within hours after a would-be assassin used a handgun to ambush two law enforcement officers, Joe Biden called for a ban on “weapons of war.” Are we to fend for ourselves with kitchen knives and pointy-headed garden gnomes?

The abandonment of the Fourth Amendment’s prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure is on the table as the rumblings aboutmandatory COVID-19 vaccines get louder.

We are seeing new methods to erode the Fifth Amendment’s prohibition of the government “taking” of private property by “eminent domain” that go far beyond the infamous 2005 Kelodecision. In Kelo, the Supreme Court liberals expanded the Constitution’s “public use” to include a public “purpose.” The Court concluded that thegovernment could take property from one private owner and transfer it to another private party because the public would benefit from the economic development and increased tax revenue. Sadly, the project for which the plaintiff lost her family home was never built. As dissenting Justice Sandra Day O’Connor noted, “Nothing is to prevent the State from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall, or any farm with a factory.” In short, a “public purpose” can be anything the government wants it to be.

We are taking baby steps toward Marx’s ideal society without private property. California, as usual, is the canary in our free society’s coal mine. New legislation will allow 3 homes on single family lots across the state. The federal rules that Joe Biden wants to revive will facilitate cramming us into high-density suburban concrete jungles. How did the “stack and pack” housing in New York Citywhere COVID-19 spread like wildfire work out?

The COVID-19 mandates and lockdowns all but ignore the Ninth Amendment that enshrines the principle that we have natural rights that need not be enumerated.

The Tenth Amendment—perhaps the most powerful amendment—has been lost in the COVID-19 shuffle. Our leaders have ignored the law of the land that provides that when it comes to inalienable rights, the people are ultimately in charge.

The Twelfth Amendment confirms that electors, not the popular vote, shall elect the president despite Mrs. Clinton’s assertions to the contrary. The United States must guarantee that all states, not just New York City and California, have a voice in presidential elections.

The Thirteenth Amendment will no longer have meaning when we are all slaves to Uncle Sam’s whims.

Universal mail-in voting and the attendant fraudgrossly weakens the Fifteenth Amendment.

As Marx predicted, a socialist society would begin by the violent seizure of the government by the people. To achieve their goals, Communist revolutionaries killed at least 100 million people. Appearing to follow in those footsteps, the Marxist Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc. is decorating the streets with communist symbols and burning down neighborhoods—much to the displeasure of the local Black residents. At least 26 deaths are attributable to the “peaceful protests.” News anchors are calling for burning the f**** thing downor blow the system up if their demands (having nothing to do with racial justice) are not met.

The leftists would like to “reimagine” the Constitution out of existence. When the mobs usher in a government-run dystopia, the Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection clause will merely ensure that we will all “equally share in our misery.”

Rescue the canary. Fight for our Constitutional republic and our freedoms.
