Twenty One Pilots × Roblox

Roblox and Warner Music Group announced the Twenty One Pilots Concert Experience, a pioneering interactive virtual concert powered by the latest Roblox technology. The fully immersive performance begins inside Roblox on Friday, September 17th at 4 p.m. PDT, kicking off the Grammy Award-winning Fueled By Ramen/Elektra artist’s sold out Takeover Tour.

The high-fidelity experience will feature the first-ever dynamic setlist dictated by fans in real-time; metaverse-spanning pre-concert quests involving some of Roblox’s most popular experiences that also feature custom portals that will transport users into the pre-concert venue; exclusive custom designed virtual merchandise, and much more. Fans can access the experience and join the pre-show festivities beginning today by visiting the Twenty One Pilots event page. New Roblox users will need to create an account to enter the concert venue.

Twenty One Pilots is a band that has spent their entire career figuring out how to reach the most people possible,” said the band’s longtime Creative Director Mark Eshleman. “From selling out the small room and moving to the big venue next door, to now launching a virtual experience with Roblox for millions of users, the goal has always been the same. Designed in close collaboration with the band and Eshleman, the Roblox event aligns with Twenty One Pilots’ fan-first philosophy, bringing this experience to fans worldwide. The five-song set will feature a combination of hit songs as well as new material from their 2021 album, Scaled and Icy.

The first-of-its-kind experience will include:

  • A dynamic setlist that gives users in each concert the ability to control the order of songs performed through instantaneous voting once the concert begins. Each song will feature its own meticulously designed set with a high level of fidelity and realism, powered by the latest in Roblox’s lighting, physically based rendering, and motion capture technologies.
  • Emotes, interactive features, and bespoke virtual merchandise (“verch”) including more than 30 exclusive custom-designed pieces available for purchase.
  • Metaverse-spanning pre-concert quests that will be integrated into three top Roblox experiences Ultimate Driving: Westover Islands, Creatures of Sonaria, and World // Zero, which collectively have over 400 million visits. These quests will enable users to earn Twenty One Pilots prizes and include portals that allow users to be transported into the Twenty One Pilots pre-concert venue from across the Roblox platform in the days leading up to the concert.
  • Behind the scenes footage detailing the creation of the virtual concert itself and a Q&A interview with the band, available now as part of the pre-concert experience.

Fans can replay performances at the top of each hour through Sunday, September 19 at 11 p.m. PDT.

Here at 360 Magazine, we had the pleasure of viewing the premiere of Sin Miedo: La Experiencia. Leading up to the virtual concert, there was a creatively animated two-minute countdown introducing the virtual concert. Kali Uchis appears in a beautifully nude colored bodice with delicate sheer fabric flowing down the length of her legs. Surrounded by cacti, beautiful sky background and sultry lighting, Kali began her performance.

The creative direction had a heavenly yet playful vibe as Kali beautifully shifted between songs with her soft, sultry, siren-like voice. 1800 Christalino Tequila was seen strategically placed throughout the premiere and Kali poured a glass at the end of the performances as she thanked her fans for watching.

1800 Cristalino Tequila and Kali paired up to benefit the Human Rights Initiative, which is Kali’s preferred charity that provides free legal and social protections for immigrant communities in need. 50% of the proceeds from each 1800 Cristalino x Kali Uchis Cocktail Kit sold will benefit the charity.

About Trippie Redd:

Since delivering his debut mixtape A Love Letter to You in 2017, multi-platinum-selling, chart-topping rapper/singer/songwriter Trippie Redd has continually defied genre boundaries, embedding his melodic take on rap with frenetic elements of rock-and-roll and heavy metal. A self-professed workaholic, Trippie has now debuted five consecutive projects in the top 5 of the Billboard 200 chart.

The legendary John Oates of Hall & Oates and his wife, Aimee, are producing a free, virtual concert aimed at fighting hunger across America: Oates Song Fest 7908. The Oates are co-hosting the event with internet sensation, Saxsquatch, and are partnering with a league of star-studded performers including Dave Grohl, Sammy Hagar, Daryl Hall, Dan+Shay, Darius Rucker, Sara Bareilles, Bob Weir, Shawn Colvin, Gavin DeGraw, Matt Nathanson, Louis York, Quinn Sullivan, Infinity Song and Jewel. Here at 360 Magazine, we chatted with John Oates about his inspiration for creating the festival, exciting celebrity collaborations, and the new song that he wrote especially for this virtual performance.

Besides the entirety of the pandemic itself, was there any particular occurrence that originally inspired you and Aimee to produce OATES SONG FEST 7908?

We were asked to revive a show that we produced in 2010 called the 7908 Aspen Songwriters Festival (7,908 ft. being the altitude of Aspen, CO). When we realized that we couldn’t have a live audience, we pivoted to the idea of doing a virtual version with a charitable component. That’s when we reached out to FeedingAmerica and NugsTV to be our streaming partners.

How did you decide on the line-up of artists to headline this fest?

Many of the artists were actually involved in the original Aspen Festival 10 years ago and most of the others are friends, or someone who we really admire.

Where did you originally discover Saxsquatch, and why were they picked as co-host?

My wife Aimee discovered Saxsquach online and turned me on to him. We reached out on Instagram and began to come up with an idea to collaborate on a project…I can’t give it away, but we will debut a special video that we did together on the Oates Song Fest 7908 and trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

What songs are you most looking forward to performing at OATES SONG FEST 7908?

It wouldn’t be fair not to mention every artist since they have all been so gracious to donate their time and music. I will say that I’m going to end the show with a brand-new song that I wrote for this performance.

Where will you be performing during your set?

I will be performing from an empty theatre in Nashville and my set will be in the middle and end of the show.

How do you work to create an immersive concert viewing experience online while operating virtually?

We will have a very entertaining variety of diverse and multi-generational musicians and celebrities who will make special appearances throughout.

Justin Bieber is teaming up with T-Mobile to host a blowout Livestream concert — Bieber’s first live show since 2017 — to kick off the New Year! Fans across the globe can tune into “T-Mobile Presents New Year’s Eve Live with Justin Bieber,” Thursday, Dec. 31 starting at 7:15 p.m. PT/10:15 p.m. ET with the cannot-miss performance beginning at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET. Plus, T-Mobile will be amping up the New Year’s party with more fan experiences to come.

GirlTrek, the largest health movement and nonprofit for Black women in the United States, is officially now a sisterhood of 1 MILLION Black women – and counting!

To celebrate mobilizing 1 million Black women to use radical self-care and walking as the first practical step to leading healthier, more fulfilled lives, GirlTrek is hosting the biggest party for Black women 2020 has seen on Sunday, November 29th at 7 p.m. EST on GirlTrek’s Facebook LIVE

It will be a moment of gratitude and reflection centered in a celebration of our stories — the brilliant displays of uprising, change-making, freedom-claiming Black women. Women that have one by one, neighborhood by neighborhood, powered and propelled this movement to a literal unleashing of 1 million Black women! Together, we have been walking and building this movement for a decade. There’s no way in the world that we’d let this landmark moment pass without rejoicing.

The one-and-only D-Nice is set to spin. Performances include India Arie, Baby Rose, poet Aja Monet, and Tawiah.  

GirlTrek is the most effective public health solution in the country. GirlTrek was co-founded by two friends, T. Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Garrison. Over the years, the organization, which originally began as an email walking challenge among friends, expanded to a nationwide movement inspiring radical healing and health transformation among Black women. 

Based on membership data collection, in 2019, 26% of GirlTrek members reported taking less medication after committing to a daily walking practice; 61% of women lost weight since the previous year; 40% of women continued to see improvement in symptoms from a previous health condition and 98% of those who have been diagnosed with depression said walking has improved their symptoms.

Tuska Utopia combines a travel show with metal music

While music and travel industries are suffering from the lockdown and people around the globe have fewer opportunities to enjoy concerts and fulfil their wanderlust, Tuska Utopia offers a new way of experiencing both of these. The concept sees Finnish artists performing and audiences embarking on a journey to intriguing landscapes in the global home of heavy metal, from church ruins to disused gasometers.

Combining an entertaining travel show, one-of-a-kind metal concerts and state-of-the-art music video aesthetics, Tuska Utopia will receive its premiere this November. The concept is created and produced by the team behind Tuska Festival, the biggest metal festival in the Nordic region, and it takes audiences on a journey to some of the most exceptional landscapes in Finland. Each hour-long episode includes a concert, an interview with the artists and a tour of the location in the spirit of a travel show. Watch season 1 trailer here.

The first season comprises of three episodes. Industrial metal powerhouse Turmion Kätilöt will perform at the Suvilahti gasometer in Helsinki on 13 November, power metal band Battle Beast at a secret stone castle on 20 November, and cello metal sensations Apocalyptica at the church ruins in Pälkäne on 27 November. Tickets to all three episodes have already gone on sale.

Tuska Utopia is hosted by Samy Elbanna from the thrash metal band Lost Society and directed by Taku Kaskela, a household name behind many music videos and TV productions.

“The series takes the visuality of gigs to a whole new level. It was a real dream for a director like me to get the opportunity to create new utopian worlds through music and light design for soulscapes that are so familiar to us Finns,” Kaskela says.

“The power of Tuska Utopia stems from the curating between the artists and locations, which creates a story, a tension and a theme that connects all the concerts in the series. The name of the series itself acts as a kind of reading guide, as each episode reveals an actual existing place in the Finnish landscape, as well as a fantasy world created especially for the series,” adds Jenni Kääriäinen, Artistic Director of Tuska Utopia.

“This is not just a way to replace live concerts”

Tuska Utopia aims to offer unique experiences, as well as to create new opportunities between the fields of music and travel. While both industries are suffering from a worldwide lockdown, Tuska Utopia enables people to enjoy both activities in a new way.

“This is not just a way to replace live concerts now that so many events are on hold. We hope to succeed in creating a new crossover culture that I can easily see continuing along its own path also after the crisis is over,” says Eeka Mäkynen, Executive Producer of Tuska Utopia.

The artists featured in the programme all have well-established global fan bases, so the English-language series is expected to attract interest around the world.

“Finland has already been called the global home of heavy metal, with more metal bands per capita than anywhere else in the world, and this country definitely has a strange appeal. Tuska Utopia is a dive into the deep end of the Finnish metal soulscape, a place where your feet can no longer touch the bottom. Welcome along!” Mäkynen invites.
