Twenty One Pilots × Roblox

Roblox and Warner Music Group announced the Twenty One Pilots Concert Experience, a pioneering interactive virtual concert powered by the latest Roblox technology. The fully immersive performance begins inside Roblox on Friday, September 17th at 4 p.m. PDT, kicking off the Grammy Award-winning Fueled By Ramen/Elektra artist’s sold out Takeover Tour.

The high-fidelity experience will feature the first-ever dynamic setlist dictated by fans in real-time; metaverse-spanning pre-concert quests involving some of Roblox’s most popular experiences that also feature custom portals that will transport users into the pre-concert venue; exclusive custom designed virtual merchandise, and much more. Fans can access the experience and join the pre-show festivities beginning today by visiting the Twenty One Pilots event page. New Roblox users will need to create an account to enter the concert venue.

Twenty One Pilots is a band that has spent their entire career figuring out how to reach the most people possible,” said the band’s longtime Creative Director Mark Eshleman. “From selling out the small room and moving to the big venue next door, to now launching a virtual experience with Roblox for millions of users, the goal has always been the same. The Roblox team has made an effort every step of the way to honor the band’s fans, its lore, and history to make sure this experience aligns with what people can expect from a show.

Designed in close collaboration with the band and Eshleman, the Roblox event aligns with Twenty One Pilots’ fan-first philosophy, bringing this experience to fans worldwide. The five-song set will feature a combination of hit songs as well as new material from their 2021 album, Scaled and Icy.

Mike Easterlin, Co-President, Elektra Music Group, said: “Tyler and Josh are two of the most unapologetically bold, forward-thinking artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Their commitment to connecting with their fans in new and creative ways is unparalleled, and I’m always amazed at how Mark continually finds ways to execute their imaginative vision. Roblox is a perfect partner in delivering another unique and exciting new way for fans to experience the world of Twenty One Pilots.

Jon Vlassopulos, Global Head of Music, Roblox, said: “We are taking virtual concerts to the next level with our Twenty One Pilots virtual concert experience. We wanted to make it truly interactive and participatory for the fans, for the band, and for our broader Roblox developer community. Fans will be able to decide the order of the songs that they hear by choosing with their friends. They will be able to interact with the environment in creative ways becoming part of the show, and Tyler and Josh will participate in a live chat with fans after the virtual concert. This is what Roblox is built for, bringing people together to interact in new and exciting ways and we are just scratching the surface of what’s possible.”

Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer & Executive Vice President, Business Development, Warner Music Group, said: “The Twenty One Pilots Concert Experience is a completely new format of interactive music experiences on Roblox. It is non-linear, it is choose-your-own-path, and it is the very reason why we have such a close partnership with Roblox. Our goal is to continue to build ever-evolving ways for our artists and fans to meet, connect and create something authentic together.”

The first-of-its-kind experience will include:

  • A dynamic setlist that gives users in each concert the ability to control the order of songs performed through instantaneous voting once the concert begins. Each song will feature its own meticulously designed set with a high level of fidelity and realism, powered by the latest in Roblox’s lighting, physically based rendering, and motion capture technologies.
  • Emotes, interactive features, and bespoke virtual merchandise (“verch”) including more than 30 exclusive custom-designed pieces available for purchase.
  • Metaverse-spanning pre-concert quests that will be integrated into three top Roblox experiences Ultimate Driving: Westover Islands, Creatures of Sonaria, and World // Zero, which collectively have over 400 million visits. These quests will enable users to earn Twenty One Pilots prizes and include portals that allow users to be transported into the Twenty One Pilots pre-concert venue from across the Roblox platform in the days leading up to the concert.
  • Behind the scenes footage detailing the creation of the virtual concert itself and a Q&A interview with the band, available now as part of the pre-concert experience.

Fans can replay performances at the top of each hour through Sunday, September 19 at 11 p.m. PDT.

About Twenty One Pilots

GRAMMY Award-winning Twenty One Pilots quietly emerged as one of the most successful bands of the 21st century and redefined the sound of a generation. After billions of streams and dozens of multi-Platinum certifications around the world, the history-making Columbus, OH duoTyler Joseph and Josh Dun ascended to a creative and critical high watermark on their new full-length album, Scaled And Icy. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top “Rock Albums” and “Alternative Albums” charts, while landing at No. 3 on the “Billboard 200,” marking the biggest opening week for a rock album in 2021. Among a collection of anthems, Scaled And Icy spawned “Shy Away,” which spent eight consecutive weeks at #1 at Alternative Radio, and “Saturday” which just climbed to #1 at Alternative Radio marking the band’s 9th #1 single in the format. Scaled And Icy follows Twenty One Pilots’ 2018 Platinum certified album TRENCH, which features the platinum singles: “Chlorine,” “My Blood,” and the GRAMMY  Award-nominated “Jumpsuit.” The album graced spots on “Best of” year-end lists by Billboard, KERRANG!, Alternative Press, and Rock Sound who placed it at #1. Formed in 2009, the guys grinded towards this moment following the mainstream breakout of 2015’s BLURRYFACE. Certified quadruple-platinum in the U.S., it was declared the first album ever to have every one of its songs certified Gold or Platinum by the RIAA, and garnered a GRAMMY  Award for the Diamond certified “Stressed Out.” In 2019 Twenty One Pilots announced that their 2013 LP Vessel achieved the same Gold & Platinum milestone with every individual track from the album receiving Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum certification from the RIAA, making the duo the first artist/group with two albums to reach this landmark achievement.

The band also recently announced The Unfinished Business Tour, which kicks off on December 10 in Pittsburgh, PA. The 29-date North American run includes three nights at the acclaimed Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, in addition to dates in Chicago, Minneapolis, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City, among others. From headlining clubs to arenas and festival dates, from playing tiny rooms to massive shows with The Rolling Stones, Twenty-One Pilots and touring across the U.S. with The Struts, and from growing up in Kingston to headlining a hometown show at Richardson Memorial Stadium attended by over 14,000 of their biggest fans, The Glorious Sons have steadily cemented their position as “Canada’s Best Export” (Washington Times).

Their third full length studio album A War On Everything, named one of Classic Rock UK’s Albums of the Year, saw international acclaim as the lead single “Panic Attack,” became their second consecutive U.S. #1, also climbing to the top of the charts at home, where it spent an impressive ten consecutive weeks at #1, along with the album’s second single “Kingdom In My Heart” that notched the band their third consecutive #1 and 12th consecutive Top 10 radio hit in Canada.

TOM ODELL – MONSTERS

Tom Odell new studio album monsters out now

2022 North American Tour Announced, Fan Pre-Sale Tuesday July 13 at 12PM EST

Away from all the noise of his various successes – three UK top 5 albums including the platinum-selling, chart-topping Long Way Down; two top 10 singles; a 2013 Brit award for Critic’s Choice – there’s one thing that’s always kept Tom Odell grounded: songwriting. A classic songwriter in the mould of Elton John (who’s a big fan, actually), Odell – who was awarded a prestigious Ivor Novello for Songwriter of the Year in 2014 – relied on his passion more than ever when it came to crafting his fourth album, the pop-leaning, emotionally-healing monsters out today, July 9 via Sony Music UK/RCA Records.

Today, Odell also announces that his 2022 North American tour dates will go on sale Tuesday, July 13 to fans via pre-sale at 12 noon EST/9am PST, with general tickets available for purchase next Friday, July 16 at 10 am local time. Visit the official website for more information.

Tom Odell’s new song out today “over you yet” has him lamenting a past relationship which he painfully cannot disconnect from. While the subject matter can be heavy, there’s a lightness of touch that means he is able to pull off pop’s greatest trick – hiding sadness in bright, joyful melodies.  The track is subtly embraced by his newfound love of DIY electronic pop with its beat-driven melancholic production.

After a dark period of mental health stalked most of his 2018 and 2019, Odell wrote his way through it, eventually letting down his guard and pouring his feelings on everything from anxiety to capitalism, toxic masculinity to politics, into a 16-track opus that feels like both a daring creative rebirth and a solidifying of Odell’s strengths. It’s all there in the opening song and album lead single, “numb” which opens with Odell’s unadorned vocal over sparse piano – “I hold my hand over the flame, to see if I can feel some pain,” he sings – before eerie, wheezing electronics and layers of clipped beats cloak the song in a sticky sadness.

“I was writing songs like I always did, but it wasn’t until I started writing about stuff that was contributing to my mental health problems that I felt like a record was forming,” he says of the album – his first since 2018’s 70s rock-leaning Jubilee Road, which was started in May 2019 and finished in Odell’s home studio between lockdowns in 2020. That thematic turning point came in the shape of the single “monster,” which like the album’s lead single “numb” confronts that sentiment head on. With the sky-scraping chorus (“you’re just a monster and I’m not scared”) initially inspired by Trump, and more specifically climate change activist Greta Thunberg staring him down at the UN Climate Summit in 2019, the song soon morphed into something more abstract, a self-help mantra for Odell’s ongoing battle with anxiety. “It’s about trying to tell myself that this thing I’m feeling is not real,” he says. “It always used to happen in bathrooms – I’d be out somewhere and then I’d walk to the bathroom and my heart would go at a million miles per hour and I’d feel like I was about to collapse, and I’d try to tell myself it was fine. That it will pass. That it’s a state of mind.”

Odell has been working as a musician in the public eye since he was 21 when self-penned debut album Long Way Down earned him a number 1 album, a top 10 single, the epic “Another Love and a Brit Award. Now, 30, it’s clear to Odell that the whirlwind around his debut kick-started a work ethic that eventually became an obsession. “Just wanting to completely lose myself in it but to a damaging extent I think.” It reached an apex in September 2019 when Odell, fresh off touring Jubilee Road, went straight to LA to start writing the next album. “Then this chronic anxiety that I’d had for a couple of years just got worse – I was very lonely, I was drinking way too much, and it just got really bad.” He takes a deep breath. “I was taking Valium every day to try and just not have a panic attack. I was seeing multiple psychologists over there.” Plans were made to fly to Nashville to work with producer Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Twenty One Pilots) but were swiftly cancelled after Odell woke up one morning “and I couldn’t do anymore music.”  He knew something had to change. “It was like I’m going to end up with something terrible happening,” he sighs. “I used to sit on Santa Monica beach and look at the planes taking off from LAX and just dream of being on one.” In the end he flew back home, went straight to his parent’s house, and slowly got better. “That was the point I started writing these songs.”

Slowly but surely, Odell turned that challenging experience into a new album. He also realized his broader lyrical horizons needed to be matched by a musical expansion, with a lot of the songs on the album – created alongside songwriter Laurie Blundell and producer Miles James – leaning into a more electronic, bedroom pop sound that Odell has steadily become obsessed with over the last few years. It wasn’t always that way, mind you. “I really turned my nose up at anything that was made on a computer,” he laughs. “I just didn’t like pop music. Some of that was my issue and some of it was that pop music wasn’t that good four or five years ago – it’s so interesting now. I hear lyrical subjects that I don’t think anyone’s heard in pop music before. I felt like I was getting caught up in that fire and suddenly I was so excited.” This newfound love of DIY electronic pop chimed with the pandemic’s arrival and songs were crafted in a more threadbare way around instruments he had at hand, like Moog synths. It was a move underpinned by both necessity and a desire to explore.

“It was the inhibition of not being able to use a full band that pushed things forward,” he says. So eerie synths and head-rattling beats augment the frayed-around-the-edges, impassioned rallying cry of “fighting fire with fire” (“I’m sick of white messiahs”), while “money” – which rails against society’s obsession with capitalism, while also pointing at the reflection in the mirror – is built around a driving pulse of echo-laden beats and crunchy, metallic percussion. On “numb,” inspired by experimental musician Mica Levi’s soundscapes, synthetic textures are painstakingly fused with acoustic flourishes. “I would say there was this period before it all unraveled in LA where I was just disconnected,” he says of the lyrical inspiration for “numb.”  “I felt bogged down, like I was beginning to lose that sense of lightness.”

fighting fire with fire,” “numb” and “monster” also touch on ideas around prevailing toxic masculinity and its effects on body-image issues. “On ‘monster,” I like the idea that I’m singing the chorus to myself – this idea of body image and never being good enough. You look in the mirror and it’s like ‘you’re just a monster.’ Those low self-esteem moments that we all have.” That theme also permeates the fragile, heart-breaking piano ballad and future single, lose you again, which pores over a fractured relationship and rails at the stoicism that bleeds out of men being afraid to show their feelings. Continuing to hide sadness in bright, joyful melodies is the buoyant pop shimmer of me and my friends, inspired by a homeless person Odell met briefly in LA who called him out on his patronizing need to help her, and the pastoral, 60s-inspired guitar that flutters around the broken tales of the lush tears that never dry.

As a testament to his enduring popularity, Tom Odell was invited to perform on BBC1’s Graham Norton TV show, and  more recently he appeared on the The Late Late Show with James Corden with another intimate performance.  At the same time, Odell’s fan base continues to grow exponentially with his new sound and direction. He has gained over 4 million new monthly listeners since the start of the year, with two thirds of his audience under 25. Despite joining TikTok relatively recently, his heavily engaged videos have been viewed over 15 million times, and his first ever single “Another Love” has had a resurgence in popularity amongst a new generation, becoming a viral hit and entering the UK official singles charts again.

Four albums into his career and Tom Odell has made a record that feels free of expectation, free of other people’s perceptions of who he is as an artist. While it was darkness that inspired him, he has managed to transform that into a multi-layered, genre-bending pop album full of light, and hope, even in the strangest of times. monsters also represents the start of chapter two in Odell’s ongoing musical journey. “I feel like I’ll be doing this for as long as I can,” Odell smiles. “I also feel like I do it for the right reasons – because I love making music.” He’s confident, too, after a difficult few years lost in the wilderness. “I feel like I’ve got shit to say and I’m good at what I’m doing now.”

The duo had to forgo their normal studio sessions but reached a new of level of introspection in the process, adopting a more imaginative and bold approach to their songwriting. The result is a collection of songs that push forward through setbacks and focus on the possibilities worth remembering. Scaled And Icy is Twenty One Pilots’ first studio album in three years and follows their RIAA Platinum certified LP, Trench.

In 2020, Twenty One Pilots surprised fans with standalone singles “Level of Concern“ and “Christmas Saves The Year.” ”Level of Concern” reigned at Alternative Radio for 12 weeks straight and cracked the Top 25 on Billboard’s “Hot 100”chart, while also achieving RIAA Gold certification, and propelling the band to victory at last year’s American Music Awards where they took home the award for “Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock.” ”Christmas Saves The Year” arrived at the tail end of 2020 and debuted on Billboard’s “Alternative Airplay” chart, becoming the first holiday-themed song to make the list since 2012.

Twenty One Pilots scored one final accolade in the final moments of 2020, officially breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the longest music video with their history-making regenerative visual for “Level of Concern.” Conceived by the band with interactive director Jason Nickel, and award-winning storyteller / director Jason Zada, the first-ever “Never-Ending Music Video” pulled in fan created content from over 162,000 user submissions, in real time, live on YouTube Powered by Imposium, every three minutes and forty seconds a new music video was created and streamed live to YouTube, containing brand new content from fans. Besting the previous record holder, Pharrell and his 24-hour long video for “Happy,” Twenty One Pilots’ “Never-Ending Music Video” for “Level of Concern” broadcasted for 177 days straight with a total run time of 4,264 hours, 10 mins, 25 seconds

Twenty One Pilots’ 2018 LP Trench ushered in a new era for the duo from Ohio Earning Platinum certification from the RIAA, the album was met with critical acclaim with Billboard declaring, “Trench revels in the confounding genre-blurring and cavernous conceptualism that has defined Twenty One Pilots.” A true global phenomenon having surpassed two billion streams worldwide, Trench is highlighted by the RIAA Gold and Platinum certified alternative hits “The Hype,”“Chlorine,”and “Jumpsuit.” “Jumpsuit” stands as the decade’s fastest rising song to reach #1 on Billboard’s “Alternative Songs”chart and earned the duo their fourth GRAMMY nomination (Best Rock Song). The acclaimed conceptual collection also features the RIAA Gold-certified “Nico And The Niners“ and the RIAA Platinum-certified single “My Blood.”

Robert Grace – Fake Fine

Irish pop newcomer Robert Grace releases “Fake Fine,” marking Robert’s first release with Sony Music Germany/RCA Records. Robert has the ability to write slices of cool heartfelt pop readymade for radio and his current single “Fake Fine” is no exception. Showcasing Robert’s skills as a songwriter and a performer in his own right, “Fake Fine” sums up the trials and tribulations of living in the current climate.

“The song is about pretending to be ok when you’re really not,” says Robert. “When everything is all an act. You might not even be in a bad situation but still, for some reason somethings not right and you’re trying to figure out what that something is.”

Robert has developed into a hugely in-demand songwriter, having co-written tracks with Dan McDougall, Blair MacKichan, and Josh Wilkinson. His previous track “Moving Fast” was track of the week on 2fm and his song “The Good Place” was added to the influential “Easy” playlist on Spotify. The Kilkenny singer-songwriter has performed at Ireland’s biggest festivals Electric Picnic & Indiependence, as well as co-writing with some of the most prestigious songwriters in the UK.

Twenty One Pilots- Never Ending Video

TWENTY ØNE PILØTS RELEASE FIRST-EVER, NEVER-ENDING MUSIC VIDEO FOR “LEVEL OF CONCERN”

REVOLUTIONARY DIGITAL CAMPAIGN ALLOWS FANS TO SHARE MEANINGFUL MOMENTS FROM THEIR LIVES INSTANTLY VIA CONTINUOUS VIDEO STREAM

“LEVEL OF CONCERN” SPENDS SIXTH WEEK AT #1 AT ALTERNATIVE RADIO

TWENTY ØNE PILØTS – “LEVEL OF CONCERN” (NEVER-ENDING MUSIC VIDEO) YOUTUBE

Twenty One Pilots have released the first-ever, never-ending music video with the help of their fans. Livestreaming now on YouTube the groundbreaking video for Twenty One Pilots’ hit “Level of Concern” pulls in fan created content, in real time, live on YouTube. Powered by Imposium, every three minutes and forty seconds a new music video is created and streamed live to YouTube, containing brand new content from fans. Conceived by the band with award-winning storyteller and director Jason Zada, the concept behind the innovative digital campaign was to find a unique way to connect with fans during the pandemic, and give them an opportunity to share meaningful moments from their lives via the continuous video stream.

Fans can visit HERE to upload their own footage, which will instantly appear in the “Level of Concern” (Never-Ending Music Video). Twenty One Pilots cryptically launched the project on June 12th with a 24hr livestream on their YouTube channel featuring a TV screen flashing mysterious imagery. Three million people tuned into the live broadcast with #twentyonepilots trending on Twitter for twelve hours, with over 150k tweets from the dedicated fans. From the stream fans were directed HERE, the landing page of a complex and immersive Alternate Reality Game (ARG), which Zada developed with renowned game designer, Steve Peters.

The goal of the ARG was to find a total of 20 codes, each one unlocking a virtual USB drive through which fans could download a zip file containing: images, videos, and symbols taken from the band’s personal phones – clues to deciphering the remaining codes needed to solve the game. Each drive contained elements leading to the next puzzle and each code became increasingly harder to solve as the ARG progressed.

One code was hidden in the closed-captioning of the official “Level of Concern” music video, whereas another was hidden in the spectrogram of an audio file. Extremely elaborate in nature, one clue was concealed within a glitched photo file, that when opened in a text editing program contained coordinates to locations around the world. Inputting these coordinates into Google Maps let fans piece together another code.

Serving as the centerpiece of the video launch, upon solving all 20 codes of the ARG fans unlocked a secondary page where they were able to upload their own unique content to the official never-ending “Level of Concern” music video. Written and recorded amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, “Level of Concern” is currently sitting atop the Alternative Radio charts for a sixth straight week and has amassed 150 million streams around the globe.

Originally released alongside an official music video directed by longtime collaborator Real Beer Media, Twenty One Pilots have also shared “Level of Concern” (live from outside), an alternate version of “Level of Concern,” featuring additional performances from friends and collaborators Paul Meany (Mutemath), Jesse Blum (MisterWives), and Simon Jefferis.

The concept for the reimagined take developed as Twenty One Pilots went to work on recording a remote performance of “Level of Concern” for The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon: At Home Edition. The performance, which is streaming now on The Tonight Show’s YouTube channel, sees each musician delivering an open-air performance while in quarantine. The duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun will be donating a portion of the proceeds from “Level of Concern” to Crew Nation, a global relief fund for live music crews, which aims to help touring and venue crews affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Level of Concern” is the first new music from Twenty One Pilots since the release of their 2018 RIAA platinum-certified LP TRENCH,“TRENCH revels in the confounding genre-blurring and cavernous conceptualism that has defined Twenty One Pilots,” declared Billboard. Upon release Trench made a massive global impact with the RIAA gold certified collection earning the GRAMMY® Award winning duo their biggest sales week ever in the U.S., with 175,000 units sold in its first week.

A true global phenomenon having surpassed two billion streams worldwide, TRENCH earned Twenty One Pilots Top 5 chart debuts around the globe including the U.S., U.K., Belgium, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, and The Netherlands.

TRENCH is highlighted by the #1 Alternative singles “The Hype”,” “Chlorine,” and “Jumpsuit,” the latter of which became the decade’s fastest rising song to reach #1 on Billboard’s “Alternative Songs” chart, and also earned the duo their fourth GRAMMY® nomination (Best Rock Song). TRENCH also features album standouts “Nico And The Niners,” “Levitate,” and “My Blood.”

Last year Twenty One Pilots’ announced that their 2013 LP VESSEL achieved a Gold & Platinum milestone with every individual track from the album receiving Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum certification from the RIAA. Twenty One Pilots’ 2015 LP BLURRYFACE was the first album of the digital era to achieve this feat back in 2018, making the duo from Columbus, OH the first artist / group with two albums to reach this landmark achievement.
