Arctic Lake – Breathe

English alternative pop duo Arctic Lake is back with the emotionally bare single “Breathe,” out now via Astralwerks. The slow-burning, gently driving song, produced by member Paul Holliman, comes with a fittingly evocative and intimate video. Listen to “Breathe” HERE and watch the video HERE.

“Breathe” finds vocalist Emma Foster pleading with a partner who’s closed off, she’s desperate for more connection, feeling suffocated by the relationship’s limitations. Shimmering synths slink around her voice as she asks, “Can I find what’s underneath, won’t you let me know you?” Eventually, a rush of vibrating electronics takes over, but not without her slipping in one more simple request: “I’m just wanting you to hold me.” The video for “Breathe” feels just as personal, with Foster front and center against a blood-red background, her soul-baring lyrics projected right on her face, exposing every vulnerability.

“Breathe” follows 2021’s electro-kissed single “Lonely,” Arctic Lake’s “steamiest track yet” according to House of Solo. The duo also recently built up a following with a handful of collaborations, like their ZHU team-up “Yours“, which peaked at #16 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, as well as the feel-good track, “House Music” with German DJ Boris Brejcha, and “Road” with producer Lane 8. But “Breathe” builds on Arctic Lake’s more minimalist, sultry soundscapes, which Tongue Tied Magazine describes as “breathtaking, electromagnetic anthems” that are “simply unmatched.”

Arctic Lake’s blend of emotional songwriting and inventive production has won the attention of fans and critics since they self-released their debut single, “Limits,” in 2015. Since then, their following has grown to over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. As they prepare more new music for 2022, Arctic Lake is ready to lure more listeners into their colorful world.

KITO – BLOSSOM

KITO’S NEW EP, BLOSSOM, SET FOR RELEASE ON NOVEMBER 5 VIA ASTRALWERKS

Featuring BROODS, Terror Jr, ZHU, Jeremih, Bea Miller, VanJess & Channel Tres

On the heels of her first RIAA Gold certification as a listed artist, Astralwerks artist Kito announces the November 5 release of her new EP, Blossom, and unveils the leadoff track from the seven-song set, Skin & Bones ft. Winona Oak. Lush and luminous, “Skin & Bones” is an infectious, deeply romantic slice of dance-pop. Kito wrote the song with Sarah Aarons (Zedd, Alessia Cara, Maren Morris).

Born and raised in the Nordic forests of Sweden, Winona Oak first came to attention as a writer and featured artist on What So Not’s “Beautiful” and The Chainsmokers’ Gold-certified “Hope.” Her own debut single, “He Don’t Love Me,” was a runaway success, amassing 50 million streams across all platforms to date. Following her recent single “Old Insecurities” and her latest EP SHEwhich features the self-empowerment anthem “With Myself” and the stunning ballad “Piano in the Sky,” Winona Oak is currently at work on her debut album to be released next year.

Bitter, Kito’s first collaboration with FLETCHER, has been certified Gold by the RIAA and has amassed over 88 million combined global streams. She produced and co-wrote FLETCHER’s new single, girls girls girls, a bold reimagining of Katy Perry’s groundbreaking hit “I Kissed a Girl,” and earned acclaim for her remix of MARINA’s “Venus Fly Trap.”

Kito’s recent hits – “Follow” with ZHU and Jeremih, “Recap” with VanJess and Channel Tres, and “Steal My Clothes” ft. Bea Miller – shed light on the Australian-born, Los Angeles-based producer’s approach to futurist pop. All three tracks are included on Blossom, as well as new collaborations with BROODS “Locked On You” and Terror Jr “Tongue Tied.” See below for track listing.

Fans who pre-order the EP will instantly receive “Skin & Bones,” “Steal My Clothes,” “Recap” and “Follow.” Named as the “ultimate summer club record” by Dancing Astronaut, “Follow” has amassed more than 10 million combined global streams. Billboard hailed “Recap” as “deliciously decadent and refreshing.” Praising “Steal My Clothes,” The Honey Pop said, “From the lyrics, to what a feel-good track it is, everything is A+.”

Pokémon 25: The Red EP RELEASE

ZHU Remixes All Three Tracks For Pokémon 25: The Blue EP, Out Later This Month

The Dual Releases Honor a Pokémon Tradition As 25th Anniversary Celebration Continues

Three new artists have joined Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary celebration: Vince Staples, Cyn and ZHU. Staples and Cyn contribute exclusive new songs to Pokémon 25: The Red EP, which was released today. Available HERE, the EP also features Mabel’s song “Take It Home,” which was unveiled last month. View Pokémon 25: The Red EP visualizers on YouTube HERE.

Reflecting the longstanding tradition of dual releases for the core Pokémon video game series, with each featuring nuanced differences from the other, and paying homage to the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue video games, Pokémon 25: The Blue EP will follow later this month. It will feature remixes of The Red EP songs by GRAMMY-nominated recording artist ZHU, who is fresh off the release of his third album, DREAMLAND 2021, and a sold-out, six-night stand at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater.

The songs from The Red EP will appear on the upcoming P25 Music compilation album, which will be released this autumn by Capitol Records as part of a massive, yearlong music campaign from The Pokémon Company International in partnership with Universal Music Group. ZHU’s remixes will be included on the digital edition of the album. Vince Staples, Cyn and ZHU take their places alongside fellow P25 artists Katy Perry, Post Malone, J Balvin and Mabel.

On the atmospheric, melodic “Got ‘Em,” Vince Staples faces life’s challenges head-on, drawing inspiration from iconic Pokémon characters Mew and Raichu. Staples recently released his self-titled, fourth album out now via Blacksmith Recordings/Motown Records. Garnering positive reviews from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR Music and NME among others, the LP debuted as the No. 1 Current Rap Album and landed at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 Chart week of release. Staples is also currently working on bringing his dramedy, The Vince Staples Show, to Netflix.

“I’ve always been a fan of Pokémon, so it was particularly special to be asked to take part in this 25th-anniversary celebration,” said Vince Staples. “I’m excited for people to hear ‘Got ‘Em,’ and hope the song resonates with fans, especially those who grew up with Pokémon like I did.”

Cyn—who is signed to Katy Perry’s Unsub Records and recently contributed two songs to the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning film Promising Young Woman—offers up “Wonderful,” a shimmering song that celebrates friendship and the joy of being alive.

Cyn shares, “I am so excited to release one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, ‘Wonderful,’ in celebration of 25 years of Pokémon! This song is special to me because I feel it comments on growing pains while also emphasizing a destination of grace and a beautiful journey to it—eggs hatch when they want to or in other words, when they are ready. When I wrote this song, my newborn baby son was in the room—I can hear the influence of becoming a new mother in the music, it will always ring special for me.”

“The Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue video games introduced the world to Pokémon 25 years ago and we wanted to recognize that important part of the franchise in our 25th-anniversary celebrations within the P25 Music campaign,” said Colin Palmer, vice president of marketing, The Pokémon Company International. “Pokémon fans will appreciate the nod to the first Pokémon video games with these EPs, while music fans will enjoy new songs and remixes from exciting artists on these dual collections.”

The Red EP kicks off with “Take It Home,” an original song from BRIT Award recipient Mabel. PAPER Magazine noted, “to say it’s a bop would be a complete understatement—‘Take It Home’ is packed with bright and buoyant beats.” The official video, People Magazine observed, “finds the star chasing Jigglypuff into a Wonderland-style dreamworld full of colorful ensembles and pop star choreography.”

Fans can keep up with the latest news for P25 Music and more celebrations across the franchise on Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary website. Pokémon 25: The Blue EP can be pre-saved HERE.

Pokémon and music fans are invited to join the conversation online with @Pokemon and #Pokemon25.

DALLASK × LAUV — “TRY AGAIN”

Today, acclaimed producer/songwriter/artist DallasK unveiled his summery new single, “Try Again,” which features longtime friend and collaborator Lauv on vocals. With a wistful look back and a hopeful eye to the future, the track builds into an infectious, exhilarating plea to rekindle a romance that was perhaps never really over. You can download and stream “Try Again,” which was released today via Astralwerks, HERE. You can watch the lyric video HERE.

“Try Again” continues the collaboration that began when DallasK co-produced and co-wrote Lauv’s 2016 single “Breathe.” DallasK also co-produced and co-wrote “Sad Forever,” a single from Lauv’s 2020 debut album, ~how i’m feeling~, and collaborated on Lauv’s 2020 EP, Without You. The pair co-wrote “Try Again” with Michael Pollack (Lizzo, Zedd, Justin Bieber). In addition to producing, DallasK played all the instruments on the song.

DallasK, who is also known for his work with such artists as Tiësto, Fifth Harmony, BTS, Chromeo and KSHMR, says, “‘Try Again’ is actually the first dance record Lauv and I made together and it was super fun to create a unique record that encompasses both of our styles and influences.”

Lauv added, “Me and Dally made this song a couple years ago and we came back to it during quarantine and now we ready to put ‘er out into the world.”

Like the unforgettable ex in the song, the artists couldn’t resist returning to “Try Again,” a song that dates back to an informal 2016 recording session. Lauv and Michael Pollack joined Dallas at a lake house he’d rented in his hometown of Orlando, FL and there they created over a dozen songs.

“Several months later, Lauv’s artist project started to grow rapidly and he was suddenly on tour with Ed Sheeran and playing all around the world,” recalls DallasK. “We continued to work on his albums but ‘Try Again’ was always a favorite of ours that had gotten seemingly lost in the shuffle.”

After they rediscovered the track last year, Dallas FaceTimed Lauv with an idea for a more dance-focused version. Lauv loved it so much, he immediately re-recorded the vocals.

“Then we finished the record on a trip to Mexico for New Year’s and that’s the version you hear today!” says DallasK.

About DallasK:

Based in Los Angeles, DallasK (Dallas Koehlke) has released a string of acclaimed singles, including “All My Life,” “Self Control,” “I Know” and “Sometimes.” Praising the “relatable story” told on “Sometimes,” Billboard asked, “Does true love ever die? […] ‘Sometimes,’ the ghost of the past never really goes away. That’s the kind of love DallasK, Nicky Romero and XYLO wrote about on their summer heartbreak sing-along.”

DallasK is also known for his collaborations with such artists as Tiësto (“Show Me,” “Your Love”), Hardwell (“Area 51”) and KSHMR (“Burn”). He co-wrote and produced Fifth Harmony’s 5x Platinum single, “Work From Home” feat. Ty Dolla Sign as well as their singles “Down” and “He Like That.” He’s also remixed singles for such artists as Martin Garrix/Bebe Rexha, The Chainsmokers, MGMT, A-Trak/Andrew Wyatt, Skrillex and T.I./Pharrell/Robin Thicke.

Popdust observed, “It’s impossible to escape his influence. From Ariana Grande and Kesha to Lauv, Katy Perry and Fifth Harmony, Koehlke has curated a staggering number of today’s hits, whether behind the scenes or in the production chair.”

About Lauv:

Lauv has quietly and steadily become one of pop’s brightest rising stars. He has released his music completely independently with billions of streams to his name. He has written for some of the biggest stars in the world, performed on late night talk shows, played stadiums opening for Ed Sheeran, and sold out shows in 20+ countries as a headliner. And he did all of this without releasing an album.

That changed in early 2020, with Lauv’s official debut, ~how i’m feeling~. A 21-song tour de force, the project marks a breakthrough, a real moment of arrival, from a young singer/songwriter/producer who Rolling Stone called “Pop’s Up-and-Coming Heartbreak King.” The album released as a Top 20 album in 10 territories, including #9 in UK and #5 in AU, with over 1.5 billion combined streams to date.

Since then, Lauv has released a surprise new EP titled Without You, created during quarantine, and joined forces with rising global pop superstar Conan Gray on the new single “Fake.” Lauv has been open about his own struggles with anxiety and depression and has taken action on the issue with his Blue Boy Foundation, which supports programs that help young people feel more comfortable reaching out for help with mental health.

About Astralwerks:

Established in 1993 in New York City, Astralwerks was the brainchild of Caroline Records staffers who saw an opportunity for a label focused on the nascent electronic and ambient scene. As a testament to its pioneering approach, Astralwerks has amassed 30 GRAMMY nominations, taken home six GRAMMY Awards and had historic releases from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Halsey, Porter Robinson, Phoenix, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and many others. The label has also released such massive singles as the 6x Platinum “Happier” by Marshmello + Bastille and FISHER’s “Losing It.”

Zhu × John the Blind – Monster

Zhu unveils new single, Monster, in collaboration with John the Blind.

Grammy-nominated artist Zhu teams up with acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer John The Blind on the new single, Monster, released today via Astralwerks. A stunning departure from Zhu’s dusky signature sound, the track is a sparkling, straight-up celebration of unconditional love.

“I fell in love when you recognized my darkness/Made friends with all my monsters/And you still wanna stay, still wanna stay,” sings John, who takes the lead on vocals, with harmonies and a soulful falsetto closing from Zhu. The two artists produced and performed the track together, with Zhu on bass and John on guitar.

“I wanted to create a summer anthem for the kids who are finally able to go out,” says Zhu.

John The Blind – also known as John Ryan – released isolation, his first full-length album, earlier this year. His vocals have been heard on tracks by Pitbull, Brass Knuckles, and DJ Snake. A multi-Platinum songwriter and producer, he is also known for his work with One Direction, Maroon 5, John Legend, and others.

Tickets go on sale today for Zhu’s October 10 and 11 shows at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and his November 24 and 26 dates at Avant Gardner in Brooklyn. Zhu will perform a unique show each night. Shiba San will join as a special guest on all dates. Zhu will also be performing at numerous 2021 festivals, including ARC, III Points, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Outside Lands.

In May, ZHU played an unprecedented sold-out, six-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Westword said, “dancing came easy to the beats of Zhu, who is as ultra-cool as musicians get and wildly talented, bringing in house music that could score a buzzed drive down Sunset Boulevard.” EDM.com praised his “epic, snow-covered return to Red Rocks,” while HITS Daily Double praised Zhu’s performance as “equal parts mesmerizing and invigorating – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Fresh off the release of his third studio album, Dreamland 2021, Zhu is featured on the cover of the July issue of DJ Mag. Hailing Dreamland 2021 as among the “50 Best Albums of 2021 So Far,” Billboard said, “oscillating between fuzzy, pulsing house (Sweet Like Honey) and spooky, ultra-low BPM, piano-laden meanders through the underworld (I Need That) the sonics are varied but the ambiance is consistently shadowy, falling also into the aural lineage of Zhu’s two previous LPs.” The Los Angeles Times observed, “it’s a record about profoundly missing the club and the shot at connection it offers.”

In an interview with the Times’ August Brown, Zhu talks about the album, the return to live entertainment and his experience as one of the most prominent Asian American musicians working today.

Alongside his music, Zhu has passionately pursued his interest in fashion, playing an essential part in the design of his fashion-forward merch. He is dropping new merchandise from his highly anticipated SUMMER OF DREAMLAND series each Thursday at 10:00 AM PT. The collection includes slides, kimonos, a sequined bomber, a tactical vest and a wrench pendant in addition to bucket hats, t-shirts, socks and hoodies – all in Zhu’s trademark colors, black and orange.

ZHU Announces Plans to Build NFT-based Fan Community

Kicking off with Limited-Edition DREAMROCKS Community and Moment Tokens for Attendees of Red Rocks Available to Redeem This Saturday, May 15th, An Open Zhuman Community Token Will Also Be Available To All In The Coming Weeks

Drops coincide with new album DREAMLAND 2021 and will allow fans to redeem exclusive content, merch and access to future events and collections

DREAMROCKS Community Tokens for all six shows, NFTs designed by Shane Fu for Night After Night

DREAMLAND 2021, released by Astralwerks, is now available worldwide HERE.

ZHU reveals the details of his plan to build an NFT-based fan community. Beginning with the DREAMROCKS NFT Collection exclusive to Red Rocks concertgoers, an open Zhuman Community token will also be made available for fans worldwide.

Fans who attended ZHU’s six-night sold out run at Red Rocks that concluded last night are able to register for complimentary community tokens as well as limited-edition moment tokens that include exclusive content from the show they attended. To redeem, showgoers should register using the same email they used to purchase their concert tickets at Yellowheart.

Fans of ZHU worldwide can register to receive an open Zhuman Community token at Yellowheart. The Zuman Community token will grant holders access to exclusive content and events to be announced in the coming weeks. ZHU adds, the fans have shown up so hard these last two weeks at Red Rocks, I’m excited to give something special back to them while also making sure all of my Zhumans worldwide can be a part of the community we’re building. All DREAMROCKS tokens will be minted and issued on Saturday, May 15th at 1PM ET. All Zhuman Community tokens will begin minting in the coming weeks.

The Dreamrocks NFT Collection from ZHU is being issued by Night After Night and Yellowheart, the partners behind Kings of Leon’s NFT YOURSELF album release. These releases make ZHU the first artist to build a fan community by issuing free community tokens and the first to issue tokens tied to a live experience.

Casey McGrath, CCO of Night After Night adds, with this offering, ZHU is setting the tone for how artists should enter the space and use NFTs to create a fan-first model that establishes a long term direct-to-fan pathway.

For YellowHeart, democratizing the modern live music experience is our mission. As in-person events start to come back, introducing the many ways NFTs can transform and amplify live music for both artists and fans, in a way that’s better for the environment, is all the more exciting, said Josh Katz, Founder & CEO of YellowHeart. It was important to ZHU to have both a carbon-neutral process, as well as offer tokens that are gas-free, so all of his fans could participate in this iconic drop. Since YellowHeart uses Ethereum Layer 2, which uses proof-of-stake, it is the most efficient blockchain solution in terms of gas fees and energy consumption.

Just days before the release of his new album, DREAMLAND 2021ZHU unveils the richly cinematic track, Yours, feat. Arctic LakeZHU’s pensive keyboards shift to a simmering rhythm as he and UK alt-pop artist Arctic Lake who recently joined him on the Astralwerks roster trade vocals, evoking the uneasy tension between love in the moment and the aching for love everlasting. Mitch Bell (THEY., Tame Impala), who served as guitarist/musical director for ZHU’s 2016 NEON CITY tour, adds searing guitar. The three artists wrote the track together. Listen HERE.

The official video, directed by Yan Bokhanovich and produced by Daniel Shapovalov, takes inspiration from the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Rear Window and further explores the voyeurism of ZHU’s ONLY video. From the recesses of ZHU’s mind, the plot unfolds as two girls begin dancing in an apartment. As other characters emerge from nearby streets and buildings, they become entranced, then obsessed with watching the girls. View Yours HERE.

Ahead of this Friday’s release of DREAMLAND 2021 on Astralwerks, fans can pre-save / pre-order the album and instantly receive Yours plusSky Is Crying ft. Yuna and ONLY, ZHU’s collaboration with Tinashe. See below for the full track listing.

Sky Is Crying has amassed over 3.2 million combined global streams since its release in late March. Billboard said, Zhu has always been a vessel for the dark and surreal, and Sky Is Crying meets an age of hope and despair with somber groove.View the animated official video for Sky Is Crying HERE. Upon the release of ONLY in 2020, Dancing Astronaut hailed the song as a blend of ominous undertones with an alluring edge while Stereogum praised the dark electronic pop track built around reverberating keyboard arpeggios and an increasingly frenetic thump. View the official video for ONLY HERE.

DREAMLAND 2021 was made at home during quarantine, but as ZHU crafted the new set’s grimy techno and sweaty house tracks, he imagined the record as the propulsive score to a world starting to spin back into motion. DREAMLAND 2021 is about looking forward and creating a version of the future we want to exist in, ZHU says.

ZHU will celebrate the album’s release during his six sold-out DREAMROCKS shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO in May. Hisunprecedented run at the legendary venue is one of the first major multi-night stands to take place since the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered live music venues around the world. ZHU explores an eerie, enticing sonic landscape with characteristic cool, flitting from the ethereal to the visceral, on his new single, I Admit It featuring 24kGoldn, who contributes a scintillating verse. 24kGoldn currently tops Billboard’s Hot 100 with his Platinum single Mood featuring Iann Dior. Released today by Astralwerks, I Admit It is available HERE.

The accompanying video unfolds on the production floor of a factory where the machinery has been repurposed to produce ZHU’s fashion line, which exudes an erotic, industrial sensibility. The unexpected combination of plastic, lingerie, work boots, kimonos, protective gear and faux fur, in shades of orange and black, is informed by hazmat imagery, filtered through a sensual, futuristic lens. After the robotic assembly line wraps up production for the day, the workers slip into pieces from the stunning, forward-thinking collection and take to the improvised factory floor catwalk ZHU and 24kGoldn perform. View the video, which was directed by Joey Vitalari, HERE.

Today, ZHU announced his November 13 fan exclusive I Admit It fashion show advance screening, which will take place in downtown Los Angeles. Adrian Montgomery, CEO of Enthusiast Gaming, the parent company of Luminosity Gaming, commented, This is our 2nd collaboration with ZHU. There is a natural fit between his music and our gaming audience, and we look forward to continue to partner on unique content experiences. After debuting on Luminosity Gaming’s Twitch channel, the fashion show will be available for viewing on ZHU’s YouTube channel.

About ZHU:

Since emerging from the underground in 2014, ZHU has brought a cinematic sense of world-building to his music. Born Steven Zhu and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he began playing piano at a young age. After making his debut with Moves Like Ms. Jackson a 2014 release that drew widespread attention despite ZHU’s deliberately concealing his identity ZHU dropped his debut EP The Nightday and soon earned a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Dance Recording for his breakthrough single Faded. Arriving in 2016, his debut album Generationwhy found ZHU illuminating his emotional life to a greater degree, in part by adding more of his lithe vocal work to the album’s channeling of desert psychedelia. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronics Albums chart. ZHU continued that sonic exploration on his sophomore album Ringos Desert, a 2018 effort featuring guests like TOKiMONSTA and Tame Impala. He has recently collaborated with Kito (Follow ft. Jeremih), Tinashe (ONLY), partywithray (CAME FOR THE LOW) and Bob Moses(Desire).

As his profile has risen over the past few years, ZHU has passionately pursued his interest in fashion, playing an essential part in the design of his fashion-forward merch. With ambitions of including a runaway at upcoming live shows, ZHU aspires to shed light on the left-of-center sensibilities of the more daring corners of the electronic-music world in all aspects of his artistry. ZHU has recently launched partnerships with Luminosity Gaming and Leica.
