TURKEY TROT LA

Turkey Trot Los Angeles returns to Downtown Los Angeles on Thanksgiving morning, November 23, 2023. The popular Turkey Day charity run has become a holiday tradition for many Angelenos and helps raise money for those in need for The Midnight Mission. Thousands of runners and walkers of all skill levels dressed as Thanksgiving turkeys, pilgrims, and pies will start and finish in front of historic Los Angeles City Hall. The route will take them around Grand Park, pass the world-famous Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, and down historic Spring Street, one of the oldest streets in Los Angeles. The annual Turkey Trot Los Angeles has set a goal to raise $100,000 for The Midnight Mission to help those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. For more information and to register, please go to www.turkeytrot.la.

Partnerships with corporations will assist in achieving fundraising goals this year. The Midnight Mission and Turkey Trot LA are focused on creating corporate teams that will participate in the 5k or 10k while raising funds. In addition, all participants who donate more than $25 will receive a pair of Bombas socks. Bombas will also be donating over 4,000 pairs of socks to The Midnight Mission.

Funds raised will help remove obstacles to self-sufficiency and provide the accountability and structure that people who are experiencing homelessness need to rejoin their communities. Participants are encouraged to create their own fundraising teams and prizes will be awarded to incentivize fundraising efforts.

Turkey Trot LA will likely reach over 4,000 festive runners and walkers this year. Participants can choose between a 5k or 10k and run any time and in any location across the country over Thanksgiving weekend. Families can also bring their little ones for the “Widdle Wobble” (ages 2-12) – a fun run around Grand Park featuring a fantastic kid zone with face-painting, kid-friendly fun. This year’s Turkey Trot will debut the inaugural, one-mile “Dog Jog” sponsored by Centinela Feed & Pet starting at 7:30 a.m. Dog race winners will receive a Turkey Trot t-shirt and bandana. 

Turkey Trot LA is committed to creating eco-friendly events step by step. This year, we are partnering with eco-friendly companies such as Liquid Death (water in aluminum cans) to create a sustainable event expo, omitting as much plastic as possible by providing aluminum canned water at the finish line and eco-friendly drinking cups along the course, and recycling stations for the aluminum cans will be provided at the finish line.

On Friday, Oct. 20, AREA15 hosted more than 4,000 guests for the exclusive, invite-only TwitchCon Party 2023. Taking place across the entire AREA15 district, including Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart and Illuminarium, the private event included distinctive performances and appearances by some of the world’s top Twitch streamers and social media influencers.

Inside AREA15’s A-Lot, attendees were captivated with performances by blklght, Geneburn, Findtherabbit and Vanessa Lopez. The 360-degree, projection-mapped Portal featured sets by TIGERMOM TOY, ggPeteQ, namdosean, DataBaes and orso.

Dan Clancy, current chief executive officer of Twitch, and Justin Kan, cofounder of Twitch, were in attendance along with prominent influencers such as Nicole Thorne (@nicholethorne), Koda Kumi (@kodakumi_official), Jonathan Crichton (@jojocrichton) and Sarah Jessie (@srahjessie420backup). The social media buzz from the party garnered more than 6 million impressions on Instagram.

My compositions often start with bursts of color and paint, building into slow and considered finished works which often relate to place. Forms develop and evolve within the layering of paint, through a process of revisions, reprisals, and counterattacks. I use the line of the horizon in all my paintings as a ‘stage’ for the paint – to mirror the rhythm of clouds, set against a collage of a memory of the urban landscape. — Andrew Hopkins

Andrew Hopkins is a Sydney based artist who completed his BFA at the National Art School Sydney in 2009. He was a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Traveling Scholarship in 2016 and 2017 and a finalist in the William Fletcher Biennial Traveling Fellowship Residency at the British School at Rome in 2013. New York City’s rap’s 2020s resurgence is entering its post-drill era, and ScarLip continues to state her case as one of the movement’s crown jewels with “No Statements.” The record comes equipped with ScarLip’s trademark sinister delivery, aggressive but deliberate, with a chorus that’s instantly infectious, which led to the social media hype. In just one week pre-release, ScarLip generated over a million views of “No Statements” snippets and previews, teasing and acquainting her highly-engaged audience with her newest single.

Their reward is one of ScarLip’s most complete works to date, a versatile new song that flaunts ScarLip’s growth as a songwriter and entertainer but retains the raw energy that initially put her on the national radar. Reebok has just confirmed an October 20 release for two unique colorways of its iconic Hurrikaze II retro basketball sneaker – “Seattle Alternate” ($130, 100033880) and “OG Inverse ($130, 100033879) – via Reebok.com and select retailers.

“Seattle Alternate” offers a bold take on high-flying Shawn Kemp’s second signature Reebok shoe, calling back to Seattle’s green and red alternate uniforms of the ‘90s. Toronto’s rising rapper JUGGER today announced his anticipated debut album PUPPET MASTER is coming to Red Bull Records/Wonderchild on October 27. Pulling back the curtain on the project, he revealed the official album trailer featuring the new track, “Ventriloquist.” The video sees JUGGER confined in a spacecraft lab where he’s being observed and tested like an extraterrestrial specimen. Grammy-nominated producer and Wonderchild label boss WondaGurl makes a special appearance as a scientist administering a mysterious liquid-filled syringe. Visually reminiscent of Michael & Janet Jackson’s “Scream” music video meets ‘The Fifth Element,’ JUGGER’s signature brand of futuristic horror primes the album for its Halloween-weekend release.

On the origins of the new single, JUGGER shares, ‘Ventriloquist’ is a personal look inside what my journey has been like throughout this project. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is delighted to present Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’ – a magnificent, one-of-one Bespoke motor car that captures the enchanting allure and fascinating viticultural heritage of the fabled Italian Riviera.

The Cinque Terre – Italian for ‘Five Lands’ – lies on the rugged coast of Liguria in northern Italy. Perched on the cliffside, the centuries-old fishing villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are internationally famous for their steeply terraced vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean – a true marvel in the world of winemaking.

The area’s stunning vineyards are celebrated in intricate Bespoke features throughout this exceptional motor car. The exterior is finished in a deep, rich Ligurian blue, further accentuated with a hand-applied double coachline in Navy Blue and Jasmine, completed with a delicate ‘grapes motif.’

The timeless interior, combining Grace White and Navy Blue leather with Jasmine accents, is adorned with a delicate grape-branch embroidery on the rear doors. Each piece comprises 9,215 stitches made using two different techniques. The grapes are embroidered in satin stich, with the threads carefully aligned according to the angle at which light strikes the surface to give each individual grape a lifelike tone and lustrous quality. For the grape leaf, the Bespoke Collective employed a flatter tatami stitch, which provides a textural contrast and enhances the embroidery’s tactile qualities.

The ‘grapes motif’ is also captured in an intricate inlay on both picnic tables, made with stainless steel and gold plating. The surfaces were first painted in Milori blue with a subtle sparkle, giving the color depth and vibrancy. Next, the inlays were precisely applied by hand and sealed with a clear lacquer. Finally, the surface was meticulously sanded and hand-polished to produce a smooth, seamless finish.

Overhead, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner is enriched with a map of Italy, embroidered in 14,338 individual stitches. Five glowing stars precisely positioned by hand at the edge of the coastline represent the Cinque Terre villages. Finalizing the design took more than a month, with the Bespoke Collective producing numerous iterations to determine the optimum line weight for the embroidery: wide enough to allow the thread to shimmer, yet sufficiently delicate to render Italy’s entire outline in minute and perfect detail.

The Gallery within the motor car’s expansive fascia houses a spectacular, specially commissioned artwork, which captures the colors, architecture, and vibrant character of Cinque Terre. Representing an imagined amalgamation of elements from all five cliffside villages, the composition was first sketched digitally, then airbrushed by hand using water-based acrylic paint to achieve an incredibly fine level of detail, before being finished with multiple coats of clear lacquer. The painting’s focal features are carefully positioned within the Gallery to ensure their exquisite details can be admired easily by all the motor car’s occupants.

A final flourish lies inside the glove box, which contains silver debossing depicting the five villages.

Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’ has taken its place in the commissioning client’s collection. As a true one-of-one commission, it will never be replicated.
