Canadian musician and Juno award-winning artist covers Elle via 360 MAGAZINE

ELLE – CHARLOTTE CARDIN

KO Média is excited to unveil the Summer issue of ELLE Canada featuring Canadian musician Charlotte Cardin. Fresh off the heels of four major wins at the 2022 Juno Awards, including Album of the Year for her debut, Phoenix, the rising pop star opens up about her identity as an artist and how much music has set her free. “Music is the most wholesome way I’ve found of letting go, of drowning out the noise and staying grounded in truth,” she shares in an intimate interview with her big sister and biggest fan. “Whenever I start overthinking what I should wear or how I should be, I go back to my music and focus on the stories I want to tell.” For Cardin, the creative experience of writing her debut album was empowering, allowing her to “access the truest and most vulnerable parts of myself.” Now, with her second album set to be released in 2023, she’s moving to London for the next stage of her career. “It feels right to go where the music speaks to me the most.”

Dive into this summer issue with a roundup of brands offering fun, fashionable swimwear and a look at the new crop of body-care products that are rethinking our face-first approach to skincare. For readers in need of a getaway, discover all that Tunisia has to offer (spoiler: everything from warm hospitality to a cosmopolitan capital), or escape to Merrill House, an ancestral home turned luxurious boutique hotel tucked away in a quiet corner of Picton, Ont.

In fashion, our editors look at the timeless trend of wearing all black — even in summertime — and delve into the history of the white T-shirt, which has deep roots in popular culture. Toronto artist Esmaa Mohamoud, whose exhibits combine sports, fashion and racial issues, reveals the inspiration behind a series of basketball jerseys she transformed into majestic Victorian-style dresses. Plus, we introduce three Canadian curators of vintage jewellery who are giving one-of-a-kind pieces a second life.

Inspirational women abound in this issue. Canadian author Sonya Singh explains what writing her first book taught her about dating and herself; director and producer Lucia Aniello talks about her award-winning show Hacks and championing stories that haven’t been told; multi-hyphenate Jessie Andrews speaks candidly about carving her own path and her recent role in Euphoria; and actor and L’Oréal Paris spokesmodel Andie MacDowell shares her thoughts on going grey and inspiring the next generation. We also chat with Violette Serrat, the new creative director of makeup at Guerlain, about using makeup to celebrate and learn to love ourselves.

This edition is filled with fascinating deep-dives on a wide range of topics. Acclaimed Bangladeshi artist and author Fariha Róisín talks about her latest book exploring how the West’s wellness trends have commodified global healing traditions. Actress and food writer Madhur Jaffrey talks about foodways rooted in tradition and why India’s cuisines are still widely misunderstood. Plus, our writers look at the shift away from binge-watching; the experiences of women affected by alopecia and hair loss; the unrealistic beauty standard of perfectly straight glowing-white teeth; and the ways that Canada’s health-care system forces people who experience chronic illnesses to become their own advocates.

Finally, three tarot readers reveal the secrets of their practice, which include initiating reflection, stimulating introspection and accessing the wants, needs and thoughts that lie dormant within us.

Tips to Take Your Cooking to the Next Level

If there’s one thing that most people can agree on, it’s that cooking is a lot of work. But for some, the satisfaction of creating a delicious meal is worth all the fuss and mess. They enjoy experimenting with different herbs and spices and nothing is out of the question when it comes to trying new dishes. If you fit into this category and you’re here with the hope of taking your cooking skills to the next level, we’ve got you covered.

Always Use Fresh, High-Quality Ingredients

In order to make the best tasting food, you need to use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This means buying produce from local farmers markets, or getting meat and seafood from a trusted butcher or fishmonger. When you choose fresh ingredients, the flavors are much more intense and the food will be more nutritious too. It’s a win-win.

Expand Your Horizons

One of the best ways to learn about new types of dishes and forms of cooking is to travel. That’s right; now is the best time to jump on a plane and go to a country that’s famous for their culinary delights. Even if you don’t have the cash up front, loans are always an option and trust us when we say that you and your palette will have the experience of a lifetime. The trip will be worth every cent. Imagine sitting in Rome eating authentic rigatoni carbonara as the sun sets. Or sipping some chicken pho on a busy side street in Vietnam? Or enjoying some huevos rancheros for breakfast on a beach in Mexico? Sounds like a dream, right?

Get Organized

If you want to be efficient and make the most of your time in the kitchen, you need to be organized. Start by creating designated workspaces for certain tasks. You could have a section for prep work, one for cooking, and one for cleaning. Next, organize your cooking utensils and ingredients by type. Doing so will make finding what you need super easy and you’ll never have to fumble in a drawer for a potato peeler again. For pots and pans, group them according to the size. Get a storage box for appliances that you want to keep but rarely use and stick a label that lists the contents on the outside of the box. It’s the simple changes that will make a big difference to your workflow.

Plan Your Meals in Advance

If you’re like most, you probably don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen each day. If so, planning is key especially if you live a clean lifestyle and want your meals to reflect that. Not only will being prepared help you save money, but it will also help you stay healthy and organized. The best way to plan your meals is to create a weekly menu. This way, you’ll know exactly what you’re going to cook each day and you won’t have to waste time deciding what to make. You can find plenty of recipes online or in cookbooks, or you can come up with your own ideas. Once you’ve created your menu, make a grocery list based on the ingredients you’ll need. In time, you’ll build up a supply of different spices and essentials and you won’t have to go to the store as regularly.

Just. As. Erik new song "Printed in My Sheets" is out now via 360 Magazine

Just. As. Erik – PIMS

Just. As. Erik new song “Printed in My Sheets” is out now. The song is written by Erik together with the artist Janice, one of the Swedish soul scene’s leading figures, and producer John Hårleman who, among other things, has previously collaborated with Anders Bagge and produced songs for the Swedish Melodifestivalen and the American TV series Glee.

– “Printed in My Sheets” is about a magical place where you “sign” your name to enter. There you meet a person with whom you have a magical chemistry and experience. In this place, you forget everything else around you and you do not tell much about yourself to the other person, because you do not want to destroy the unspoiled, Erik says about the new single.

Erik’s sound is a combination of strong melodies, a consistent melancholic nerve, and a fluid gender expression, which is not least to be found in Erik’s bubbling soulful voice, fragile and clear, that is the foundation in all productions.

Erik has previously danced in Eurovision and participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen, as lead singer in the synth duo The Lovers of Valdaro. He is educated at Balettakademin in Gothenburg and has since performed in musical theatre productions in over 10 years. He’s played the leading role in Priscilla at Göta Lejon in Stockholm and the role of Don Lockwood in Singing in the Rain at Kristianstad Theater. Right now he is on tour in Sweden with a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

In 2021, Erik released several songs together with artists such as Luca Debonaire, MVRE, Gatby and Miss Sister on the releases “Rewind” (EP), “Play” (album) and “Pause” (acoustic album). Erik’s songs have been supported by blogs like Alfitude and Music & Fashion Blog and Spotify have included his songs in playlists such as “New Music Friday Norway” and “Ny Pop.”

The new single “Printed in My Sheets” is available on all streaming services.

Will we Have Complete Control of Our Own Environments in the Metaverse?

The metaverse is on the way, and the hype around it is gaining serious traction. It could be completely transformative, changing the internet as we know it. It will have a major effect on many industries, with social media expected to be at the forefront of this new platform.

Social media users today have a multitude of privacy options so they can control what people see. However, there are questions about how and if this will translate to the metaverse.

Social Media Users Are Currently Able to Select Their Privacy Options

One of the reasons why social media sites have enjoyed such amazing success is the fact that users can tailor their own environments. They can see what they want to see and show people what they want to show them.

A lot of social media users value their privacy with the utmost importance. Nearly 80 percent of Facebook and Instagram members have adjusted their privacy settings in the last year, highlighting how crucial these features are.

According to an infographic from ExpressVPN, there are various ways to stay safe and private on social media. This includes having multiple accounts for different purposes, reviewing photo tags, and limiting posts to close friends. Users have so much control over these settings that they can create their own social media experience.

How Will This Translate to the Metaverse?

Because so much is unknown about the metaverse right now, it’s hard to know how these privacy settings will translate to this new world. According to XR Today, the metaverse will serve a wide variety of functions. This will include socializing, working, and playing. If people are using this world for different things, it may mean that their settings will have to alter depending on what they are doing.

Users may interact with the metaverse on different levels, some of which will give them more control than others. It’s reasonable to imagine that in social scenarios, everyone will have the power to show and see things in the same way they do now. However, when entering wider social settings like groups or entertainment zones, users may be exposed to content that they have no power over.

Metaverse inhabitants may still be able to block people as they can today on social media. If they encounter a blocked person in a social setting, they may not be able to see the face of their avatar or interact with them in any way.

There are already some theories about this, such as the ideas posed by Futurism. Metaverse users may be able to block things that they don’t want to see and go about constructing their own virtual worlds over time. Eventually, this could lead to bespoke experiences for everyone who enters the metaverse.

There’s no doubt that it’s going to take time for users to adapt to the metaverse. It is also likely to go through a lot of teething problems before it is as advanced as the world of social media today. Users have grown accustomed to constructing their own online spaces, though, and the metaverse is likely to offer similar options.

Trans woman, actress, entertainer, TV personality Monroe Alise shot Corey Fletcher speaks to Vaughn Lowery via 360 Magazine podcast

Monroe Alise

Listen to Monroe Alise’s full conversation with Vaughn Lowery on the 360 MAG Podcast HERE

Monroe Alise is an actress, LGBTQIA+ advocate, model and comedienne. As a transgender woman, she has fulfilled her childhood dream of working in the entertainment industry. Her philosophy on life is described in her mantra, “If you can’t laugh at life, you will never find a reason to live it.”

Born and raised in Washington DC, Monroe grew up passionate and inspired by media and entertainment. Her admiration for her father’s successful career as a DJ ignited her insatiable desire to entertain. Thus, she began singing in church, propelling her into the world of artistic expression.

For Monroe, a great singer consists of emulating your favorite idols while taking advantage of the potential of one’s own voice. As a child, she recalls being compared to artists like John Legend and Luther Vandross because of her tonality and courage. Another favorite is Nina Simone, whom she references while belting evangelical hymns.

As a youth, Monroe was a very active and social child. She studied sports public relations but fancied theatre. These disciplines were conducive to her discovery of sexuality. Further, she began to notice a direct correlation with her mother’s maternal responsibilites, rather than her father and two brother’s machismo profile.

According to Monroe, “While they were playing games and sports, I was in the kitchen doing my mom’s hair.” In addition, her openly gay aunt was influential in her gender transformation due to her immense pride and confidence.

Monroe’s gender bender was painstakingly challenging but became easier over time. For instance, while preparing for an acting role as a Trans woman, she became comfortable in this new skin. After the audition, she gave herself permission to continue to live within this newfound reality.

A year later, Monroe made the decision to come out, “I was like, well this is who I am, so I socially reinvented myself and this is the girl you see.” Eventhough the transition embraced authenticity, it was extremely taxing on her family as well as father’s religious convictions.

Lacking legit representation and management, Monroe began to utilize social media to seek opportunities within the realms of fashion and Hollywood. As a thespian, Monroe became enthralled by the portrayal of becoming another homosepian while subsequently having an impact on the world. This year’s main objective is New York City’s Broadway. Her short-term is to star in a sci-fi like Star Trek or Star Wars as well as a fantasy film similar in type to Harry Potter and Twilight. Longterm, Monroe aspires to host a namesake talk show directed and produced by herself.

As an emerging Trans Community activist, Monroe is deeply concerned about the increasing rate of violence against her people. She hopes to alleviate the suffering of her collective, especially at the hands and ignorance of the narrow-minded.

Monroe’s Five Principles:

1.) Adequate preparation;

2.) prevention of underachievement;

3.) working while you wait without worry;

4.) preparing for your mission;

5.) and continuing to work because you know you’ve been doing the best you could.

Lil Baby releases new song U-Digg via 360 Magazine

Lil Baby – U-Digg

GRAMMY Award-winning rapper Lil Baby has unleashed a new track and video “U-Digg.” The Atlanta native has teamed up with two of Detroit’s pacesetters, 42 Dugg & Veeze, to release an undeniable summer banger. Lil Baby and 42 Dugg delivered the smash hits “We Paid” and “Grace” from My Turn when they last joined forces. With the welcome addition of Veeze, “U-Digg” is sure to follow the trend as they trade ferocious verses over menacing production work. The new release denotes that Baby has no intentions of slowing his hustle and continues to mark himself as the reigning champ of his era.

Alongside the new release, Lil Baby got behind the camera himself to direct the track’s music video. The handheld-style camera-work feels authentic and raw, following Baby, Veeze and 42 Dugg from an impressive garage full of Maybach’s and T-Rex’s to the streets where they trade drifts and showcase their riches.

Alongside a standout performance at Hot 97’s Summer Jam this past weekend, Lil Baby’s new documentary Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a performance of fan favorite tracks from throughout his career Directed by Karam Gill, the film is raw, intimate, and chronicles the astonishing rise of a singular artist and activist, exploring the systemic oppression that keeps far too many people of color from participating in the American Dream. Produced by Quality Films, MGX Creative, and 4PF, the film will be available for Prime subscribers on August 26th.

Eleven Unique Ways to Get Fit This Summer

Once the weather starts to warm up, everyone is eager to get back outside. The extra daylight is the perfect motivator to take a walk or swim down at the beach. However, that means trails and lakes can start to get pretty crowded. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to exercise, finding a different way to move your body this season might interest you.

Do you need some new ideas for outdoor activities? Here are eleven unique ways to start your fitness journey this summer!

The Importance of Fitness

At all ages, getting outside and exercising is essential. Throughout your life, a good fitness routine will help lessen your chances of:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Mood and sleep disorders

Your body will start to reduce muscle mass around age 30. Aches and pains might also begin to be more noticeable by 50. Before this happens, forming a solid exercise routine will be beneficial. It can mitigate the impacts of muscle loss and strengthen your bones. If you need a new way to get fit, this summer is the perfect time to find new activities to keep you moving.

Fitness can also be a very social activity. Whether you get a group of friends to join or make new ones at a class, getting together to exercise can be motivational and connecting. You could take large group, small group or one-on-one lessons. Whichever you choose, having someone else there to help you may help you feel more confident.

Exercise is excellent for your mental health as well. Researchers found that physical activity could be an additional solution to depression. For those looking to see improvements along with medication, getting outside and moving may be great advice. However, if you want to decrease your prescription, always speak with your practitioner first. They will most likely want to see how exercise affects your mental health over a while before they make any changes to your treatment regimen.

Summer Exercise Tips

There are plenty of fun ways to be active inside and outside during summer. Here are some summer exercise ideas for those beginning exercise routines and fitness experts!

  1. Surfing

Surfing is a great way to see the ocean and get fit. Whether renting your first board or catching your 500th wave, surfing engages your body and encourages balance. It’s a full-body workout, giving you plenty of benefits. It may have a learning curve for those starting out, but let yourself take the time to experience it. Taking up a new practice could also positively affect your mental and physical health.

  1. Bicycling

There are multiple ways to bike, so you can choose based on your experience level and preference. You could take different paths or find a beautiful route through town. Maybe you’re interested in training for a race or marathon. There’s also mountain biking, which can provide you with some gorgeous views while performing high-intensity exercise. Along with protective gear, cycling is phenomenal for your health.

  1. Gardening

Gardening can be a fantastic exercise and mindfulness practice. As you’re working with the soil, take note of how everything feels and the sounds around you. Feeling at peace with nature and yourself can center you and help you relax. Additionally, shoveling, planting and harvesting your garden’s products can be a perfect workout. Pay attention to how you’re lifting and how much. Doing so will prevent strain, so you can keep getting out to your garden.

  1. Practicing Yoga

Indoors or outdoors, all you need is a blanket to sit on. You could even forego that if the ground is comfortable enough. Some may prefer to practice in their home, where they can minimize extra noise. Others could find focusing outdoors helps them manage their busy lives more peacefully. However you practice, yoga is a wonderful experience for the body and mind. This summer, give it a try if you need a new way to increase your flexibility and muscle strength.

  1. Creating a Boot Camp With Friends

Maybe you’ve seen a boot camp in your local park or gym. While trying something new is always good, you may have been slightly intimidated by its intensity. Instead of abandoning the idea entirely, create one with some friends. Being surrounded by people you know can help you feel more relaxed. If you need something less harsh, you can customize your workouts to the group. Making your own boot camp could be a great physical and bonding activity.

  1. Jumping Rope

Bring things back to your childhood days with some jump rope. You could keep your workout to a regular jump rope routine, or find a more intensive video or written plan. If you want to truly throw it back, you and some friends could pick up double dutch again. While it might seem childish to you, jumping rope is an excellent cardio exercise that can also improve balance and bone health as you practice.

  1. Cleaning the House

A two-in-one chore — exercising and tidying your house. Could your spring cleaning use a summer refresh? See it as an opportunity to get in some physical activity. Vacuuming, dusting and washing can all be awesome workouts that involve your whole body. Find ways to make these jobs more complete, such as:

  • Switching arms so both get some activity
  • Taking time to stretch between tasks
  • Lightly jogging while moving about the house

Get your body and your house in shape by combining cleaning and exercise.

  1. Kayaking

Take your family, friends, or just yourself out to the lake and rent a kayak. Along with the lovely sights, you’ll quickly see how this could be your new favorite workout. Using the oars to steer and push yourself along the water requires a lot of work from your arms. In addition, turning your upper body to get the proper position will do plenty for your core. Try out boating along the water in a kayak this summer to get in some vigorous physical activity.

  1. Finding a Trail

It could be any kind of trail. You might choose to go hiking, running or walking on a path outside. Trails can be as relaxing or intense as you want. It may be nice to bring some friends or go by yourself to experience nature. You could even take your cat or dog on a leash to provide an arm workout. Remember to stay hydrated, and check in with your body and others — especially if you’re going alone.

  1. Playing a Sport

There are plenty of team and solo sports to choose from when beginning your exercise regimen. You can find soccer, basketball, softball or tennis teams depending on your experience. Different leagues will accommodate different levels of skill. If you’re looking for solo sports, you could pick up dancing, swimming or roller skating to get your physical activity in. This all depends on your comfort level, so decide if you’d prefer to play a sport with others or by yourself. Whatever you pick, you’ll be doing yourself a favor.

  1. Going Rock Climbing

This is another fantastic indoor and outdoor activity. Going to your local rock-climbing wall is a terrific way to get started. Those helping you climb can give you tips on the best ways to get the most out of your climb. Once you’ve had a lot of practice, you could start learning how to climb out in the wilderness. This could blossom into a fulfilling group or even solo activity. If you’re looking for new ways to get outside, rock climbing might become your new passion.
