Sator × Project Chimps

Sator has just announced its partnership with one of the most recent chimpanzee sanctuaries, Project Chimps. The collaboration includes the launch of a sequence of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on the Sator app. Each chimp at Project Chimps will receive their own specially minted NFTs, and all proceeds will be returned back to the sanctuary.

The Project Chimps sanctuary is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of north Georgia, where former research chimps are given lifelong refuge and rehabilitation. Home to 82 chimps today, Project Chimps aims to grow these numbers and provide more chimps with accessible care. To learn more about the chimps, visit ProjectChimps.org.

With the announcement of the collaboration, this supports the sanctuaries’ goal to assist more chimps in the future. The proceeds accumulated through the purchase of the NFTs go directly back to the sanctuary, providing more resources for better care of the chimps and to house more chimps in the future.

The NFTs will be released in a sequence of groups. The first collection drop is “The 5 Alphas.” “The 5 Alphas” include the heads of the 5 separate family units at the Project Chimps sanctuary: Binah, Bo, Kareem, Kirk and Patrick. “The 5 Alphas” NFTs can be accessible now through the Sator app. There are around 5,000 NFTs for each individual Alpha offered.  NFTs can be bought through Sator’s native token (SAO) for roughly $5 each.

Sator’s President Chris Martin speaks on the significance of the collaboration between the two teams. Martin states, “We are honored that Project Chimps chose Sator to launch their first-ever NFT campaign in support of the sanctuary’s efforts to provide care to the retired research chimpanzees. We see it as a creative way to bring awareness to their mission and we’re very excited to be a part of it.”

A feature apart of the Sator app allows users to diverge into various realms to earn crypto tokens through playing games and connecting with content. These crypto tokens can be substituted for NFTs in the app. The app also allows users the opportunity to conversate with other users around the world.

The Knights Ensemble in Residence

As a collective of musicians seeking to renovate the orchestral experience, The Knights are artistically directed by the Jacobsen brothers, with Eric Jacobsen as conductor. The Brooklyn-based orchestral cooperative The Knights showcased the first of three concerts during this fall and spring at their residency at 92Y.

The heart of the concert stages two classical works – Schubert’s bright “Unfinished” Symphony and Vaughn Williams’ superb The Lark Ascending, featuring Knights Artistic Director Colin Jacobsen as violin soloist. The programming of The Knights navigates Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the 1990s and Vienna in the 1820s, highlighting subjects of revitalization and renewal, while echoing Schubert in work of a Creole-influenced composer.

360 Magazine was invited to attend The Knights concert on Saturday December 11. We stood by, bearing the recent loss of love. Our heads were heavy, entering this season, but be that as it may, we gathered the courage. And, what the audience witnessed was nothing short of astonishing – suspensive string clips, haunting flute sounds coupled with intermittent triangular percussion rings penetrated the auditorium.

Eric (conductor) and Colin’s limitless love for one another was the vitality of this whole series. Their playlist literally tickled our souls, watered our desires while our vellum hairs danced with deception. Each section took us on a mental roller coaster – sitting in the forward car, enjoying the initial fall with our hands toward the sky. This meticulously blended set is like good wine and possesses all the sweet and refreshing notes of Napa.

Eric ran into sweat directing while we were all mesmerized at his art of bending the air. Colin dominated the audience with his vulnerability, eerie arrangement and tremendous talent. To sum up, The Knights adopt an unorthodox approach to music, exposing their joie de vivre to whomever is willing to embrace their truth.

Eric Jacobsen

Conductor of The Knights Eric Jacobson has gained the reputation of leading revolutionary projects. Jacobsen has conducted The Knights at New York venues including Carnegie Hall and Central Park, as well as internationally at the Vienna Musikverein, Cologne Philharmonie and Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. Serving as Music Director of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Jacobsen was recently appointed Music Director of the Virginia Symphony. With much call as a guest conductor, he too just led the Camerata Bern, Detroit Symphony, Alabama Symphony, ProMuscia Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Philharmonie Merck and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad.

Colin Jacobsen

Known as a violinist and composer, Colin Jacobsen is a captivating figure serving the classical music scene. Jacobsen was named one of the top 100 composures under 40 by NPR listeners. Operating as an active Avery Fisher Career Grant-winning soloist, he has toured with Silkroad since it was established in 2000. For his landmark work in the string quartet Brooklyn Rider and orchestra The Knights, Jacobsen was chosen amongst the nation’s leading visual and performing artists to obtain an esteemed United States Artists Fellowship.

Wed, Jan 19, 2022, 7:30 pm ET

The Knights collaborate with pianist Aaron Diehl for a blend of jazz and classical music. The ensemble welcomes Diehl as they explore Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue and trailblazer Mary Lou WilliamsZodiac Suite. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is also featured with varieties from Ravel’s Baroque-inspired Le Tombeau de Couperin. Closing out the show is Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, arranged by Michael P. Atkinson.

Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 8 pm ET

Edgar Meyer, critically acclaimed double bass virtuoso and composer, unites with The Knights for the New York premiere of his second concerto. The show unfolds with a showing of Jamaican-born British composer Eleanor Alberga’s Shining Gates of Morpheus featuring Knights hornist David Byrd-Marrow. The closing of the show continues the American spirit of Meyer’s work is Coplands’ Appalachian Spring.

Plug Addicts Video Out via 36 Chambers

RZA and Flatbush Zombies Team Up

Quentin Tarantino Dropping Next Friday (Dec 17th)

RZA and the Flatbush Zombies have established themselves as staples of New York’s storied hip-hop scene. The old school and new school have finally collided, with the release of “Plug Addicts”, the first of two singles from RZA and the Zombies.

Plug Addicts” is out now, complete with a music video that pays homage to Tarantino’s classic flicks. Shot in a dingy abandoned theater in Downtown Los Angeles, RZA and the Zombies don Reservoir Dogs-style black-and-white suits; trading braggadocious bars over a spooky boom-bap beat, produced by The Abbott himself. RZA assumes the role of executioner, reimagining Mr. Blonde’s iconic cop-torture scene, while the Zombies find themselves trapped in a giant birdcage

“Plug Addicts” will be followed up by “Quentin Tarantino” (out December 17th); another cinematic cut produced by RZA and Prince Paul, a rekindling of the horrorcore subgenre that RZA and Prince Paul popularized as Gravediggaz in the 90s.

RZA shared some words about working with the Zombies:

“I’ve had my eyes on the Flatbush Zombies for sometime now. Their style of Dark hip hop lyricism is reminiscent of my days in the Gravediggaz. This type of collaboration was overdue.”

And Erick Arc Elliott (of Flatbush Zombies) further elaborates:

“In a lot of ways I saw RZA in myself, as a fellow producer/artist. We are making history together at this very moment. The music he’s made over the course of his career had a lot to do with why I wanted to make music in the first place, it’s beautiful to see these things come full circle.”

“Plug Addicts” was shot and directed by John Tashiro (of SHOTCLOCK) in Downtown LA.

RZA’s company 36 Chambers has also recently announced a partnership with MNRK Music Group. Beginning today with the release of Plug Addicts; 36 Chambers and MNRK will release a host of projects throughout the coming months, which includes the highly anticipated album “Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater” by RZA and DJ Scratch, as well as a Joey Bada$$ collaboration, a new artist Weather Park, and even the long-awaited Bobby Digital album. Fans can also look forward to the release of a Graphic Novel, “Bobby Digital and the Pit of Snakes”, an original graphic novel to be released in May 2022. The book will be released in both softcover and hardcover formats in finer bookstores, comic shops and record stores everywhere, with special limited deluxe and super deluxe versions available.

A Bobby Digital Reaction Figure is available now for preorders for the month of December only here. This RZA ReAction figure of Bobby Digital features detail that highlights the character’s asymmetric, cyborg-like appearance, and comes packaged on a metallic cardback that features cover art from the “Bobby Digital in Stereo” album.

Alan Grunblatt, MNRK’s President of Urban Music says, “In 2022 RZA as Bobby Digital will leave his mask on but will go mainstream. Get ready for the next hip hop superhero. Bong, Bong.”

RZA says, “My creative roots are founded in music, not only as a performing artist but as an entrepreneur. The MNRK partnership with 36 Chambers creates a wonderful opportunity to bring new music to the world. Aligning and reconnecting with longtime business friend Alan Grunblatt is sure to make this journey a great addition to my musical legacy.”

MARVEL RELEASES CAPTAIN CARTER

CAPTAIN CARTER IS A HERO OUT OF TIME IN NEW COMIC SERIES!

Jamie McKelvie and Marika Cresta introduce CAPTAIN CARTER to Marvel Comics in new series launching in March

Captain Carter, the fan-favorite character recently featured in Marvel Studios’ What If will report for duty in her very own comic series this March! Prolific creator Jamie McKelvie, known for his defining work on characters like Captain Marvel and the Young Avengers, will now use his acclaimed talents to bring this Marvel super hero to the forefront of Marvel Comics canon, writing the series and designing the character’s brand-new look. McKelvie will be joined by rising star artist Marika Cresta, known for her recent work on STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA.

The five-issue limited series will introduce Captain Carter in an adventure that will find Peggy Carter as a woman out of time, facing the reappearance of an old foe in modern day and deciding what she stands for as the wielder of the shield.

A reality where Agent Peggy Carter took the Super-Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers is turned upside down when the World War II hero is pulled from the ice where she was lost in action decades before. Peggy struggles to find her footing in a modern world that’s gotten a lot more complicated – cities are louder, technology is smarter and enemies wear friendly faces. Everyone with an agenda wants Captain Carter on their side, but what does Peggy want? And will she have time to figure it out when mysterious forces are already gunning for her?

“I’m as big a fan of the Captain Carter we’ve seen onscreen as anybody, so I jumped at the chance to create our own version,” McKelvie said. “I’m having a great time exploring what it would be like for Peggy to wake up nearly 80 years after the end of the war. The world remembers the myth of Captain Carter, but to Peggy the reality was just yesterday. Now she finds herself in a nearly unrecognizable new world, how does she fit in? Can she be the super hero people want her to be? Exploring these questions has been really exciting, and I love the world Marika and I have come up with. I can’t wait for people to see Marika’s pages – there’s so much life and energy to Peggy and the rest of the cast, and the action scenes are stunning.

Don’t miss this unforgettable new Marvel saga when CAPTAIN CARTER #1 hits stands on March 9! For more information, click here

Swedish University Sings for Science

On December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death, the Nobel prizes are officially awarded in Sweden each year. Though there will not be quite the usual celebrations this year, the recipients will still be honoured in different ways worldwide. So in the spirit of celebrating the contribution of science and research to society, Chalmers University of Technology, one of the leading scientific universities in Sweden, aims to shine a light on the years of hard work that lie behind crucial scientific breakthroughs, through a rather unusual way – by singing for science.

The way to scientific understanding is paved with many important and cumulative steps and contributions. Every year, researchers at Chalmers University of Technology publish over 4000 scientific articles outlining new, peer-reviewed findings in a wide array of areas – everything from sustainable energy technology, food science, medicines, climate modelling and new materials, to foundational research laying the groundwork for future applications.

“Research at Chalmers and other universities helps new knowledge get out into society and industry for the benefit of everyone, to help with better decision-making. With the help of new research, we can better understand our world, and guide the way forward to more sustainable ways of living,” says Stefan Bengtsson, President and CEO of Chalmers University of Technology.

Singing for science is perhaps not the most standard way for a university to communicate. But there is a long musical tradition in Swedish academia, and last year the Chalmers Choir celebrated its 150th birthday. The pandemic unfortunately put a halt to rehearsals and concerts for a time, but now, they can sing together again, and are proud to present a new song in four voices, to the tune of the 18th century Swedish musician Carl Michael Bellman’s popular song ‘Så lunkar vi så småningom’ (‘So we gradually amble’).

The lyrics are in Swedish, but an approximate English translation is provided in the video. Watch here.

“We are very happy to contribute and celebrate science in this way. We hope our message of faith in science can spread far and wide with the help of the song,” says Maria Cervin-Ellqvist, Vice-President of the Chalmers Choir and a doctoral student at the Department of Communication and Learning in Science where she researches, appropriately enough, research communication.

If you want to share Chalmers University’s celebration of the contribution of research to society via YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin or Instagram, please use the hashtag #singforscience.

Tornadoes Devastate Central and Southern United States

A devastating stream of tornadoes unleased late Friday December 10 and early Saturday December 11 across sections of the central and southern United States. In accordance with information from the Storm Prediction Center, there were at least 50 tornado reports. The states affected include Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee.

Click HERE to see how you can assist and support the victims of these destructive tornadoes.

The most substantial damage arose as Tornadoes and strong winds broke down a nursing home in Arkansas, an Amazon warehouse in western Illinois and an inhabited candle factory in Kentucky. People were killed in all separate incidents and responders have been struggling to rescue survivors.

At least one death out of an anticipated two in Arkansas has been credited to the collapsing of a nursing home. Several were trapped in the nursing home before being saved. Around 20 people were injured at the nursing home, and eventually all were taken out of the home and accounted for. Another individual in Arkansas was reported dead after being trapped in a Dollar General when the storm hit, as reported by Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook.

One of the tornadoes fell upon an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois on the night of Friday December 10. Authorities were unable to recount the exact number of workers in the Amazon warehouse because “the warehouse does not employ a ‘set staff.’” It has been verified, however, that at least two individuals died when the warehouse collapsed. Edwardsville police chief Michael Fillback validated this report on Saturday December 11 and stated that an additional person was hospitalized.

Fillback also communicated that rescue operations were not at ease due to misplaced power lines, concrete and extra water everywhere from the fire suppression system. An OSHA investigation was opened on Monday December 13 to dig deeper into the collapse of the Amazon warehouse.

On the night of December 10, another tornado hit the Mayfield Consumer Products candle factory in the Mayfield, Kentucky. Inside, around 110 people were working, and dozens were anticipated to be dead there. At least 40 people were rescued from the candle factory, but piles of metal and corrosive chemicals that toppled the factory limit the number of anticipated survivors that could be found alive.

Kyanna Parsons-Perez, survivor of the catastrophe that struck the candle factory, recounted the events of that night. She explained that workers had been hurried into a safety area before the storm officially hit. Parsons-Perez recounts seeing “a little dust of wind. My ears start popping. And it was like the building, we all just rocked back and forth, and then boom — everything fell on us,” Parasons-Perez told CNN’s Boris Sanchez.

During the devasting storm, Parsons-Perez broadcasted the tragedy on Facebook Live and made phone calls to 911 and other family members. She recounts realizing that rescuers were there when she felt pressure from people walking on the debris above her. “I was screaming like, ‘Sir, can you please just get this so I can move my leg?’ He said, ‘Ma’am, there’s about 5 feet worth of debris on top of you,'” Parsons-Perez recounts.

As of Monday December 13, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) said that there is a confirmed number of 64 deaths across Kentucky, and that it could take some time to account for the full number of fatalities and damage that fully hit the state. Beshear noted that at least 105 individuals were unaccounted for as of that Monday morning. At least 13 people in the other varying states have been confirmed dead.

Emergency workers consisting of 300 members of the National Guard have been searching for survivors, searching through wreckage and remains and delivering water and generators to residents of Western Kentucky. Beshear talked of the damage during a press conference, stating “I’m not doing so well today and I’m not sure how many of us are. The people of Western Kentucky have gone through an unspeakable trauma. The devastation is unlike anything I have seen in my life,” Beshear stated.

President Biden is scheduled to travel to Kentucky on Wednesday, December 14 to assess damages and aid in the recovery processes. “We’re going to get this done. We’re going to be there as long as it takes to help,” Biden stated during a briefing on Monday December 13 regarding federal reaction to the destructive tornadoes. Biden ensures that he does not want to get in the way of rescue efforts, but to just provide aid to the community that truly needs it in these trying times.
