2017 EOD Undefeated Bike Ride

EOD Warriors Hold 2017 EOD Undefeated Long Distance Bicycle Ride to Benefit Bomb Disposal Techs

Cycling enthusiasts can choose a ride to raise money for the mission of helping EOD Warriors

On Saturday October 7, 2017 the annual EOD Undefeated Bike Ride will kick off at locations around the country, benefitting the EOD Warrior Foundation. The annual fundraiser will offer various ride distances, some spanning two days and over 150 miles, giving cyclists various rides to choose from, while supporting a great cause. Ride participants include wounded EOD warriors, active duty military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians, veterans and civilians. All funds raised from the event go to support the EOD Warrior Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for the EOD family by providing financial relief, scholarship opportunities, physical, social, and emotional support.

“This is our largest annual fundraising event, and it is one that people look forward to year after year,” explains Nicole Motsek, executive director of the EOD Warrior Foundation.

The 2017 EOD Undefeated Bike Ride has routes scheduled that go through San Diego and Orange County in California, as well as Gulf Coast ride from the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. There are additional rides scheduled in Denver, Virginia Beach, and there is a virtual ride option in Texas or on your own. There are various pledge amounts and ride lengths to choose from, including 6 miles, 25 miles, 60 miles, 100 miles, and 200 miles, giving everyone an opportunity to join in.

The annual EOD Undefeated Ride was started by Navy EOD Commander Kevin Childre. He passed away in 2015 as a result of injuries he sustained during a bicycle accident while raising awareness for the EOD Warrior Foundation. The annual ride that he started has not only raised over $2 million for in support of EOD Warriors, it also helps keep his memory and passion alive.

“Those who love to bike can take a beautiful ride and raise money to help bomb disposal technicians,” added Motsek. “Get registered, air up your tires, and enjoy a day of exercise and camaraderie all in the name of fun and charity. It will be a great day for everyone involved.”

The rides that have been staged include:

  • West coast 2-day ride – October 7-8, 2017, starting from Carlsbad, Calif. This route offers a scenic coastal ride, and a 4,900’ climb.
  • West coast 1-day ride – October 8, 2017, starting from Carlsbad, Calif.
  • Gulf coast 100/60/25/6 mile ride – October 8, 2017, starting from Eglin Air Force Base in Fla.
  • East coast ride – October 7, 2017, starting from Virginia Beach.
  • Denver ride – October 8, 2017, starting from Denver.
  • Virtual ride – October 7-15, 2017, starting from a location of your choosing.

VeganSmart uses music to entertain and educate on benefits of a Vegan lifestyle

In the Hip-Hop industry “beefs” among industry heavy weights are quite common and usually addressed in the studio with a diss track. The brand that has successfully built a bridge between hip-hop and health, VeganSmart, is addressing their “beef” with…well…beef and other factors that lead to diet related illness such as diabetes, hyper tension and heart disease with in a new track titled “Wise Words.”

The single features John Lewis, better known as The Bad Ass Vegan, who drops his dope rhymes, combined with his knowledge, on living a plant-based lifestyle. Lyrics such as “No, it’s not your fault/there’s education out that nobody taught from the time you were born. They got you ready for GMO pork, as a kid when they introduced you to a spork. Man, they’ll put anything together because they know you’ll eat anything they tell ya,” are used not to shame or judge, but encourage people to pay attention to what they are putting in their bodies. Hip-Hop influencers Styles P, DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Lil Cease and even Moby make appearances in the video that accompanies the track.

VeganSmart is focused on addressing nutrition-related chronic diseases in underserved communities through education and by offering plant-based solutions to satisfy hunger and improve overall health. Their efforts to spread this message have been successful thanks to a partnership with rapper Styles P and his chain of Juices for Life juice bars. Before entrancing listeners across the world, 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer Jeremy Zucker had been quietly carving out his distinct sound from a bedroom in suburban New Jersey. A fusion of organic airy beats, lush soundtrack-style soundscapes, and biting tumblr-worthy lyricism, Zucker’s catalog is eclectic: equally care-free and effortless as it is introspectively cathartic. A self-described “social introvert,” Zucker cites Jon Bellion, Blackbear, EDEN, Bon Iver, and Wet among his strongest influences.

In the summer of 2015, Zucker released his first official EP entitled “Beach Island.” The project saw a small amount of success and from there Zucker steadily began to build a dedicated fan base. Later that year he released a stream of singles that would eventually be packaged together as an EP titled “Breathe.” The project’s breakout single “Bout It” quickly garnered millions of streams as it organically spread across Soundcloud and Spotify, drawing the attention of curators and fans across the world. In 2016 Zucker released his third EP, “Motions,” which featured “Heavy,” a song that was later remixed by the recording artist Blackbear who reached out to Jeremy after stumbling across his music on
Soundcloud. The remix, “Make Daddy Proud,” was released on Blackbear’s latest LP “Digital Druglord.” 2017 continues the upward trend for Zucker; he recently signed with Republic Records and is currently gearing up for his major label debut.

Blurring the lines of fashion and music, The Business of Fashion and Interscope Records are partnering to present exclusive performances by three of the top new acts in music — BØRNS,6LACK, and Daya — at the after-party for the annual #BoF500 Gala.  In addition to the three performances, singer-songwriter Jacob Banks will perform a stripped down set at the #BoF500 Gala dinner and LA-based electronic duo Oliver and UK act AlunaGeorge will provide DJ sets at the after-party.

The invitation-only event celebrates and recognizes the people shaping the global fashion industry, with attendees from over 20 countries around the world. The #BoF500 gala has quickly become one of the pivotal moments of the annual fashion calendar and is being held in New York for the first time.

BØRNS: The first of these performers is Garrett Borns, better known by his stage name BØRNS, an American singer-songwriter from Michigan. His debut track “10,000 Emerald Pools” reached #1 on HypeMachine upon release, and “Electric Love” has been praised on Twitter by both Taylor Swift and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. He is the second most-streamed artist of all time through Spotify Discover.

Garrett will be dressed by Gucci.

6LACK: Next up is Atlanta singer and songwriter 6LACK who has been making waves in the music industry with his current single “PRBLMS,” a throbbing, melodic R&B break-up anthem. 6LACK was recently dubbed Apple Music’s New Artist of the Week and was recently featured as one of Rolling Stone’s 10 ‘New Artists You Need To Know’, one of Pigeons and Planes ‘Best New Artists of 2016’, and Billboard’s April ‘Chartbreaker’. He recently wrapped The Weeknd’s ‘Legend of the Fall’ North American Tour with Rae Sremmurd.

6LACK will be dressed by Off White.

Daya: Grace Martine Tandon, professionally known as Daya, is an American singer and songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She released her self-titled debut EP Daya in 2015, including the song “Hide Away” which peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. She released her debut studio album Sit Still, Look Pretty in 2016 and won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for “Don’t Let Me Down” with The Chainsmokers.
