Bia and J. Cole new song via 360 MAGAZINE

BIA × J COLE

BIA underlines her international appeal on irresistible new single “London,” out via Epic Records. The braggadocious track, which features Grammy-winning rap icon J Cole, is heavily influenced by U.K. drill — albeit with a swagger that is all BIA’s own. Listen HERE. The record is produced by AzizTheShake and co producers Jon Glass & Tim Nihan.

Since the song’s debut, it’s reached the #5 spot on YouTube’s trending page for music and has now surpassed 3,000,000 views in total.

BIA is making a splash with her first official single of 2022 by recruiting J. Cole for “London.” COMPLEX said.

Bia goes from wearing her jewelry at the bodega to shopping near Big Ben as she brings her own flair to the drill rap style of the U.K. as she’s joined by J. Cole on “London,” out Thursday,” said The Rolling Stone

“BIA’s new song, “London,” is already a hit on social media, with fans praising the rapper’s tongue-in-cheek British-isms and guest rapper J. Cole’s jaw-dropping featured verse,” said UPROXX

The accompanying music video is set in an overcast London, but the Boston-bred artist’s starpower shines through (as does her drip) the British gloom. Watch HERE.

From perfectly placed high-fashion name drops to pristine, U.K. slang-filled bars – “He never met no one like me / It’s pretty funny how now they all like me, innit?”  BIA’s “London” is a winning mix of style and smarts. Cole also stays on theme, rapping: “Blokes going broke tryin’ to keep up with Cole, but I make it back soon as I spend it.” Both MCs bring their A-game.

The dynamic visual similarly celebrates all things British with Instagram-ready scenes from the U.K. capital. BIA shops at the most luxurious stores during the day, and then struts down the sidewalk — Cruella de Vil-style, flanked by two dalmatians — at night. The multi-talented artist then hosts a tea party, before sailing down the Thames with Cole.

The luxurious theme of “London” recalls BIA’s 2020 platinum single “Whole Lotta Money,” which received a Nicki Minaj remix on the deluxe version of her For Certain EP. The trap&B smash debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted for 17 weeks overall. For Certain (Deluxe) also houses “Can’t Touch This,” which netted over 15.5 million Spotify streams. With “London,” BIA makes it clear that her influence knows no bounds. At home and abroad.

Easter Paintings Up For Auction

Dreweatts is delighted to unveil a lost Easter tradition that dates all the way back to the 17th century. The tradition, carried out in Holland, is encapsulated in a pair of oil works by revered Flemish artist Matthijs Schoevaerdts (1665-1723). The pieces are about to be up for auction in Dreweatts Old Master, British and European Art on May 26, 2022.

The scenes in the pieces of artwork show the Dutch tradition of butchers parading their finest animals proudly through the streets, set to drum rolls, where the whole town would come out waving banners and to bet on the weight of the animals. The parade took place a week before Easter, on the day of the Guild’s patron saint, St. Luke, who was symbolized by the winged ox. It celebrated the guild’s most prized cow or bull, which was decorated with gilded horns topped with oranges, as well as ribbons and floral garlands.

The celebratory procession was led by pipers and drummers and followed by a chorus of singers and dancers, made up of guild members and townspeople. The celebrations would culminate in the animal being butchered and the meat served at a grand Guild dinner and a large portion of it being given out to the poor people of the town via the church. The phrase: ‘The guild ox is on parade’, derives from the tradition, meaning ‘this will be a real feast!’.

The tradition continued well into the 20th century, but gradually disappeared after WWII, due to advent of increasing commercialism. Easter advertising moved inside the butcher’s shop, where their best-bred beef would be displayed on platters in shop windows and decorated with flowers and garlands of bacon.

The two oil works that illustrate these scenes are incredibly rare, as only a few examples of 17th century paintings with the subject of the Easter Ox are known to exist. They were created by the great Flemish painter Matthijs Schoevaerdts (1665-1723), whose landscapes are full of anecdotes and delicately painted scenes of peasants travelling, sailing or attending fairs, typically with small figures in detailed poses set against a backdrop of a pleasing landscape or buildings.

Schoevaerdts was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and printmaker who is believed to have been born in Brussels, where he trained with the landscape painter Adriaen Frans Boudewijns. His early works show the influence of the market views and other crowded scenes of Jan Brueghel the Elder, who started the tradition of landscape paintings with decorative scenes in the early 17th century.

Later he came under the influence of the Dutch and Flemish artists who worked in Rome known as the Bamboccianti, after which his landscapes also included backdrops of Italian ports and ruins as in one of the present works. His works are highly desirable and have achieved good prices at auction. That, coupled with the rare subject matter should attract a lot of interest at auction.

The Procession of the Easter Ox / Giving Out the Alms at a Ruined Church carries an estimate of £20,000-£30,000.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to serve upon the highest court of the United States via 360 MAGAZINE

Jackson Makes History

Thursday April 7 will be remembered as one of the most historic days in American history as Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman confirmed to serve upon the highest court of the United States. In a 53-to-47 vote, Judge Jackson was confirmed a place upon the Supreme Court as nominated by President Joe Biden in February.

Judge Jackson becomes only the eighth person to sit upon the Supreme Court that has not been a White man. The confirmation continues to make history as this will be the firs time that we see four women upon the court and the majority of justices is not White men.

Of the 53 that voted in favor of Biden’s nomination, three Republican senators joined Democrats in support of Judge Jackson. Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah. Despite Republicans loathing and attempting to prolong the voting process, Judge Jackson was confirmed to replace Justice Stephen Breyer once he officially steps down.

Republican Senator Rand Paul attempted to halt the vote while being the only senator not in attendance for the voting. He stalled the decision from being finalized, and he voted from the cloakroom out of dress code.

When asked about Paul’s lack of dress code for the vote, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated, “I will tell you I’m not spending a lot of time, nor is the president (Joe Biden), thinking about the dress code of Rand Paul today, […] We’re thinking about the historic confirmation of an eminently qualified Black woman to serve on SCOTUS. I’m not really worried about his khakis.”

On April 8, inbound Justice Jackson participated in a ceremony on the lawn of the White House, where she spoke to the weight of the confirmation. The former federal appellate judge spoke to the history that was made the day prior.

Judge Jackson stated, “It has taken 232 years and 115 prior appointments for a Black woman to be selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, but we’ve made it – we’ve made it – all of us, all of us.”

President and Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black and Asian American woman to hold the title, spoke at the ceremony together while stating, “We’re going to look back and see this as a moment of real change in American history.”

Judge Jackson referenced the late Maya Angelou, another historic Black woman, when speaking about what this confirmation means to the Black community, while stating, “‘Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave,'”

In my family, it took just one generation to go from segregation to the Supreme Court of the United States.”

Let that sink in.

Doechii – Crazy

Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) and Capitol Records‘ new artist Doechii drops the song and video for “Crazy.” The record and the visual challenges the stigmatized imagery of the female form, with both the director, C. Prinz, and Doechii working extensively over the last four months developing the narrative of this film: intentionally and meticulously crafting each scene and frame to tell a story derived from both of their personal and shared experiences.

“Crazy is about un-contained power, creativity and confidence. People call you crazy when they fear you or they don’t understand you,” says Doechii. “So when I use it in the song I’m reflecting that energy back on them to show them themselves.”

Listen HERE and watch  HERE.

On “Crazy” the Tampa rapper, singer, dancer, fashionista, and genre-disruptor attacks with aggressive flexes, colorful cadences and shouted raps while conveying a range of intense emotions. The vicious and surreal music video matches the song’s controlled chaos. Doechii, and likewise nude women, wield guns, dance in dynamic choreography and engage in destruction. The hybrid of hip-hop and broken beat finds Doechii raging as she attempts to empower the exponential capacity of women in every form of their being.

Video director C. Prinz states the film is a visual metaphor for “the hardships women go through in their ascension to power” that asks viewers “to see the female form not in moments of sexuality but instead for what we all go through, what we survive through and what we transcend.”

A testament to the breadth of Doechii’s sound and talents, “Crazy” stands in stark contrast to previous TDE/Capitol single, “Persuasive” a suave ode to weed and late-night partying.

Both singles follow the news of TDE and Capitol’s partnership with Doechii. She’s dominated the internet since the release of her unwaveringly original EP, 2020s Oh the Places You’ll Go and 2021’s BRA-LESS, and the single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” which has generated over 33 million streams on Spotify alone. In addition to featuring on Isaiah Rashad‘s “Wat U Sed,” she was named one of Spotify‘s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as an Artist To Watch by Complex, XXL, Rolling Stone, Pigeons & Planes and Hiphopdx.

The creation process marks a major artistic milestone from past work, taking shape from a one-on-one collaboration with Mills (whose contributions included everything from fretless guitar to Moog synth to steel drums) and unveiled an intimate and highly experimental process that involved embedding Johnson’s elegantly stripped-back arrangements with enchanting sonic details.

“When Blake and I first got in touch we’d send each other playlists, and over time we realized we were drawn to music that sounds effortless despite all the effort put into making it,” says Johnson. “After a while we got a language together and I gained a trust in him that allowed me to let go, push outside my comfort zone, and get to a sound I really loved.”

On Earth Day, Johnson will perform an intimate set on the Kōkua Learning Farm, an educational and agricultural destination located in the heart of Haleʻiwa, Hawaiʻi. The farm is part of the latest project of Johnson’s Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation which is establishing agricultural, educational, and retail activities that promote local food, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship.
