The Travel Agency + Christian Cowan – NYFW

The Travel Agency Partners with Christian Cowan For NYFW FW25, Bringing Cannabis Culture To High Fashion

The Travel Agency, New York’s leading cannabis destination, partnered with Christian Cowan for his Fall/Winter 2025 show at New York Fashion Week, bringing cannabis and couture together in a bold, full-circle moment. Held on Friday, February 7th at The Glasshouse, the buzzworthy event highlighted individuality, playfulness, and breaking stigma—all values deeply embedded in both Cowan’s designs and The Travel Agency’s mission.

“Fashion is progressive by nature and has long been a medium for change. As someone who’s spent the better part of their career in the fashion industry, I see The Travel Agency’s collaboration with a trailblazing designer like Christian Cowan as a pivotal moment—showing that cannabis is a part of everyday life for many and also sits in the realm of luxury, creativity, and self-expression. Our partnership beautifully displays the convergence of the cannabis and fashion industries as catalysts for progress and acceptance.” – Penelope Nam-Stephen, CEO, The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue & SoHo

Christian Cowan has long embraced cannabis as a symbol of creative freedom. Nearly a decade ago, he sent a sequined cannabis-leaf top down the runway in his debut NYFW collection, sparking conversations about cannabis in high fashion. Now, in 2025, The Travel Agency proudly stands as the first cannabis sponsor of a Christian Cowan show—further cementing cannabis’ place in modern culture.

“Weed has been such a huge part and tool of many artists’ experience for thousands of years. It’s beautiful to think of the history between marijuana and creatives through the millennia. The Travel Agency understands and celebrates this deep-rooted connection between cannabis and creativity, offering a thoughtful and elevated experience that aligns perfectly with my vision. When used responsibly it helps so many open up and dare to dream without boundaries. Maybe that’s why we call it high fashion?” – Christian Cowan

This year’s FW25 collection paid tribute to Cowan’s long-time muse, Abbie, with vibrant motifs, bold textures, and avant-garde silhouettes, evoking raw creative expression and the imaginative spirit of childhood dress-up.

“The Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store is ecstatic to support Christian Cowan’s highly anticipated NYFW show and the launch of his new collection. Cannabis has always had a natural synergy with artists and the creative community. The Travel Agency celebrates great designers and artists through our creative spaces and cultural collaborations. Our mission is to elevate cannabis consumption by providing New Yorkers with a visually stimulating and luxurious experience that merges style, creativity, and culture” said Arana Hankin-Biggers, Co-Founder & President of The Travel Agency

The guest list included a mix of A-list talent and cultural icons, such as Sam Smith, Kesha, Anna Delvey, Cole Escola, King Princess, Meredith Marks, Ubah Hassan, Coco Rocha, Ari Lennox, The Travel Agency’s own Lucia Vives Gomez, and more, all gathered to witness Cowan’s visionary designs take center stage. Additionally, as part of the collaboration, The Travel Agency dressed select VIP guests in Christian Cowan pieces, creating a seamless blend between high fashion and cannabis culture. Exclusive NYFW gift boxes curated by The Travel Agency were also presented to key attendees, featuring a selection of premium products built for a busy fashion week schedule including Beboe Downtime Vape, Camino Midnight Blueberry Gummies, Miss Grass Fast Times Pre-Rolls, and The Travel Agency’s cult-favorite Mini Escape Pouchs all packaged in a signature child-proof Sackville Lockbox—offering a cheekyand elevated take on cannabis culture.

More than just a dispensary, The Travel Agency is dedicated to reshaping perceptions of cannabis through luxury experiences, creative partnerships, and social justice initiatives. With flagship dispensaries in Downtown Brooklyn, Fifth Avenue, and Union Square, The Travel Agency is set to open its fourth location in New York’s fashion epicenter, SoHo, this spring. The Travel Agency actively works to support legacy operators, create opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals, and champion BIPOC-, women-, and LGBTQIA-owned brands.

This partnership between Christian Cowan and The Travel Agency reimagines cannabis as an integral part of creative culture, playfully blending high fashion with a modern, stigma-free perspective.

Brandi Carlile + Elton

Elton John and Brandi Carlile unveil the music video for their brand new single “Who Believes In Angels?” Watch here. Directed by visionary photographer and director David LaChapelle, the video follows Wednesday’s announcement of Elton and Brandi’s collaborative studio album Who Believes In Angels?, set for release on April 4th via Interscope Records. Pre-order the album here.

David LaChapelle and Elton are regular collaborators, having first met when David photographed Elton for Interview Magazine in 1998. They’ve worked together many times since then, with David directing the music videos for Elton’s tracks “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” with Justin Timberlake, and “Original Sin” with Elizabeth Taylor and Mandy Moore, as well as shooting the poster for Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour and directing his Red Piano residency in Las Vegas. David’s celebrated “Egg on You Face” photo is one of the crown jewels in Elton and David Furnish’s photography collection, which was recently on show at London’s V&A Museum for their Fragile Beauty exhibition.

The new video is a kaleidoscopic tribute to the rock & roll angels who continue to inspire successive generations. It finds Elton and Brandi performing on a giant pinball machine, playing a winged piano and guitar respectively, while Tina Turner and Little Richard shimmy amongst pink clouds and neon lights.

Speaking on the music video, David LaChapelle says: “It’s been a wonderful continuation of this journey with Elton over the last 20+ years – projects, videos, stage productions, photo shoots… I love these creative challenges we’ve explored and working on this duet with Brandi was really good fun and hard work, but a joyful experience on set. We created a gigantic pinball machine and made a magical world that reminds us of where we’ve been as kids – that dreams do come true – and creating together with your heroes can be a sublime experience.”

Fans can pre-order Who Believes In Angels? to gain exclusive access for the chance to buy tickets to ‘An Evening With Elton John & Brandi Carlile’ at The London Palladium on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. This one night only event will see Elton and Brandi grace the stage of one of London’s most iconic venues for a unique evening of performance and storytelling.

The concept for Who Believes In Angels? was devised by close friends and regular collaborators Elton John, eleven time GRAMMY winning US superstar Brandi Carlile and multiple GRAMMY Award winning producer and songwriter Andrew Watt. They set out to create a genuinely collaborative studio album between Elton and Brandi. The album would mix Elton-led songs and Brandi-led songs, with long term collaborator Bernie Taupin and Brandi both contributing lyrics, and producer and co-writer Andrew Watt acting as the producer, mediator and creative conduit. Entering Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studios in October 2023 with a completely blank slate, they pushed each other out of their comfort zones to write and record an album completely from scratch in just 20 days. They would be backed by a world class band of musicians comprising of Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Pino Palladino (Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan and David Gilmour) and Josh Klinghoffer (Pearl Jam, Beck).

Watch a short film about the process of making Who Believes In Angels? here. This is the first time that Elton has allowed cameras to film his writing and recording sessions. Static cameras positioned around the studio captured thousands of hours of raw footage, and ultimately documented the entire creative process – breakdowns, breakthroughs, tears, torn up lyric sheets and all. The candid footage offers fans an unprecedented, searingly honest insight into the emotionally turbulent creative process for Elton, Brandi and the rest of the team.

The results of this creative friction are stunning, and the kaleidoscopic scope of Who Believes In Angels? draws comparisons with some of Elton’s very finest works. Ballads co-exist with raw rock and roll, pop songs and country-hued Americana rub shoulders with synth-heavy psychedelia. It’s an album as unexpected as it is triumphant. Elton sounds utterly revitalized. Brandi sounds like a singer-songwriter at the absolute top of her game, her voice melding with Elton’s like a hand in a glove. The resulting songs somehow manage to be unequivocally the work of Elton John and Brandi Carlile, while sounding unlike any album either have made before.

Elton says: “This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. It has given me a place where I know I can move forward. Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future. I have everything I’ve done behind me and it’s been brilliant, amazing. But this is the new start for me. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of my career Mark 2.”

Brandi says: “I’m still reeling from the fact that I got to do it. I think all ships rise with Elton John’s standards for songwriting, and it was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work in, everybody throwing in ideas, everybody listening to everybody else’s ideas. It felt like a family. The world is a wild place to live in right now. It’s hard to find peace and triumph. It’s a radical act to seek out joyful and euphoric happenings. And that is what this album represents to me.”

The eponymous single “Who Believes In Angels?” is out now. Listen here and watch the video here. In keeping with the album it gives its name to, it is a true collaboration; Brandi penned the lyrics and Elton the theme, before Andrew joined them to bring it all together. From the opening piano chords, it’s unmistakably a slice of classic Elton John, that at once manages to nod to past glories whilst sounding thoroughly modern and forward looking. Brandi’s soaring vocals meld exquisitely with Elton’s on a towering synth charged chorus, as hard hitting as many of his best-loved classics.

Who Believes In Angels? also features 2025 Oscar nominated song “Never Too Late,” created especially for the Disney+ documentary of the same name and unveiled last year to widespread critical acclaim. Listen here. A beautiful, reflective and ultimately uplifting story of finding happiness and redemption in love and family, “Never Too Late” is the truly fitting finale to the documentary that plays out over the credits of the documentary of the same name. The documentary follows Elton as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in an emotionally charged, intimate and inspiring full-circle journey. Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish the documentary is available to watch on Disney+ now.

Los Angeles Rent Prices Plunge Despite Epic Wildfires

A Counterintuitive Trend

By Ky Trang Ho

The media was wrong. Despite the barrage of scary headlines about rising rents and price gouging, Los Angeles rent prices dropped in January even though massive wildfires ravaged 9,418 homes and structures and scorched 14,021 acres.

It defies conventional wisdom. Fewer homes should have exacerbated the housing shortage, driving up demand and prices, owing to an expected surge in demand as displaced residents sought temporary housing. Yet rental trends data from listing sites Apartments.com, Rent.com, Renty.ai, Zillow.com, and Zumper.com show rents in Los Angeles flatlined or dropped the past month, as of February 5, 2025.

Demonizing Housing Providers

The media selectively reported on rent increases, while ignoring the rent decreases. If you Google “rent decrease Los Angeles,” there are no news results in the past week, as of this writing. The only article that shows up is the one I wrote for Medium: “Debunking the Myth: Los Angeles Wildfires and Rent Gouging Claims Lack Evidence.”

The third estate perpetuates a skewed narrative that unfairly demonizes landlords and fuels public outrage. By focusing on the extreme cases of rising rents and depicting them as the norm, news outlets capitalize on sensationalism to attract eyeballs and social media shares.

Hyperfocusing on rent hikes perpetuates a simplistic villain-versus-victim narrative that landlords are exploitative while ignoring their challenges, such as rising property taxes, maintenance costs, insurance, and overly tenant-biased housing laws.

Why Rent Prices Declined

Here are possible reasons for the decline in rent prices in Los Angeles:

Temporary Relocation and Outmigration

Many residents affected by the wildfires could have relocated temporarily or permanently to other cities or states. People have been fleeing the City of Angels and the Golden State in recent years, owing to a disdain for left-wing politics and sky-high living costs.

The COVID-19 pandemic made remote work a necessity, allowing many Angelenos to move to less expensive areas while working for the same employers. Wildfires may have accelerated the trend. With fewer people competing for housing, rental demand softened, lowering prices.

Graph: Comparing population percent change in Los Angeles County, California, and U.S. by decade from 1970 to 2022. Source: California Regional Analysis Project.

Increased Housing Supply

Los Angeles has seen a plethora of new housing construction in the past few years as the state passed laws to encourage homeowners to build accessory dwelling units, ADUs. Perhaps this increase in supply has more than offset the loss of housing caused by the fires.

Bar chart: Number of single-family home starts in Los Angeles, California from 2015 to 2022 from Statista.com

Rent gouging laws kept high-end homes off the market

Another potential reason for the recent price decline could be the California restrictions placed on newly listed rental properties following the emergency. Under these regulations, a new rental property — one not listed before the disaster — cannot be priced higher than 160% of the “fair market value” (FMV) in its zip code after such an event.

For instance, in Pacific Palisades (zip code 90272), the FMV for a two-bedroom unit is $3,820, as reported by the Los Angeles Almanac. This means the maximum allowable rent for a new two−bedroom would be $6,112 per month, calculated by multiplying the FMV by 1.6. A three-bedroom unit could be listed for no more than $7,840, calculated by multiplying the FMV by 1.6.

While these figures may seem high, data from Rentcast show that the average rents for two- and three-bedroom units in the area already surpass these thresholds at $6,420 and $8,060 per month, respectively. Landlords with units priced at or above these averages have little motivation to list their properties, as doing so could lead to accusations of price gouging or force them to accept rents below current market rates.

Hence, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order on February 4 to lift rent limits in some affluent zip codes.

Imagine Dragons fans around the world can experience the GRAMMY® Award-winning rock band’s record-breaking Hollywood Bowl residency like never before when Imagine Dragons: Live From The Hollywood Bowl (with the LA Film Orchestra) comes to cinemas worldwide on Wednesday, March 26, and Saturday, March 29, courtesy of Trafalgar Releasing.

This special cinema event captures the band’s electrifying conclusion to the North American leg of their LOOM World Tour in October 2024. The nearly two-hour concert, performed during the final night of a four-night residency that drew over 67,000 fans, features reimagined arrangements of Imagine Dragons staples like “Radioactive,” “Demons,” and “Believer,” performed alongside the renowned LA Film Orchestra. The spectacular night ended with a jaw-dropping fireworks crescendo and surprise finale, fusing the band’s explosive sound with intricate, symphonic arrangements brought to life by 50 musicians.

The North American leg of Imagine Dragon’s LOOM World Tour, in support of their sixth studio album, LOOM, saw the diamond-certified, GRAMMY® Award-winning Las Vegas band sell over 600,000 tickets with multiple nights in Toronto, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. Released in June 2024, LOOM represents the pinnacle of Imagine Dragons artistic journey of self-discovery and marks the best body of work they’ve ever made.
