Introducing Debut Artist No/Me + New Single “Consistent” Out Now

Just recently, Los Angeles-based vocalist and songwriter, No/Me, shares her debut single “Consistent” vie Republic Recores–listen to it here!

On “Consistent,” No/Me lists off her flaws: a skeptic, a cynic, neurotic, and narcissistic–a freak who’s “got the best intentions,” but tends to “fuck them up.”

The moody and mesmerizing track comes to life with each confession delivered in her hypnotic vocals.

“‘Consistent’ feels like a page from my journal. Writing this song made me embrace parts of myself that were hard to face, but it also helped me stop curating the facade that people would prefer to see,” says No/Me.

The L.A. native’s sound is a blend of her electric influences, from early 90’s alt-rock to the quirky anti-folk of Regina Spektor to Israeli music. With Hebrew as her first language, her lyrics reveal a raw but poetic sensibility closely shaped by her upbringing.

Having a deep-rooted mission to use her music as a vehicle for positive change, No/Me’s stage name is her Hebrew name and meant to signify the transparent nature of her songwriting. She aims to spark that change on the most personal level. “Consistent” sets the stage for more new music from No/Me in 2018.

Millennials at L.A.’s Auction House

*This original watercolor by Sam Francis will be among the coveted art to hit the block at L.A.’s Abell Auction Company on Sunday, Sept. 16 starting at 10 a.m. For a catalog, visit www.abell.com.

Did you know that more Americans relocate between May and September than at any other time of year? And, millennials are on the move! According to rent.com, some 43 percent are leaving their college cities or hometowns to live in more urban areas – mainly for a job, significant other or to try something new. (Blog- millennial generation on the move)

Whether they’re decorating their first apartment, cultivating a taste for modern art and design, or want to own something vintage, millennials are buying at auction to express themselves and live green! You’re invited to go “behind the block” at L.A.’s original and 102-year-old auction house – Abell Auction Company – when the next lot of collectibles, memorabilia and treasured belongings go up for sale on Sunday, September 16.

The live auction action begins 10 a.m., when it’s a race in real-time to see who will place the highest bid (in-person or online) for the items they love – ranging from fine art and 20th century design to classic cars. An auction preview runs Sept. 12-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Abell gallery, 2613 Yates Ave. Visit www.abell.com or call 800.404.2235.

Head to Auction

Abell holds live gallery auctions every Thursday featuring 800-1,200 items from up to a dozen Southern California estates, making it one of the remaining weekly auction houses in the country. It also holds high-end quarterly live and online auctions on select Sundays.

Find What’s One-of-a Kind

Auction lots include furniture, artwork, and modern and vintage design that you won’t find anywhere else. From David Hockney painting to a Vasa “nest” of hexagonal colored acrylic tables to a Frank Gehry “Easy Edges” cardboard desk, the possibilities are endless.

Go Green

Buying at auction means buying “green.” You’ll be reusing an item, and in the process reducing waste and over-production.

It’s Not His Grandfather’s Auction House Anymore

Todd Schireson, 36, represents the third generation of his family to operate Abell Auction Company and can provide auction tips and trends for the younger generation, plus describe some of the most unique items to hit the block. He sometimes holds up pop-up displays at Venice Beach for millennials to preview popular auction items.

22-YEAR-OLD PARSONS STUDENT, ALINA TSYGANOVA MADE HER NYFW DEBUT PRESENTING THE SUBTERRANEI SS19 COLLECTION TODAY, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th, AT STORE FRONT AND ARCHITECTURE. THE COLLECTION ACTED AS A PIECE OF INSTALLATION ART IN THE SPACE. VIP ATTENDEES INCLUDED HERON PRESTON, MODEL MARINA LINCHUK, MODEL SHARINA GUTIERREZ, AND STYLIST ANYA ZIOUROVA.

The Moscow born designer was inspired by the concept of self-protection and defending ones true self from penetrations of the outside world. The central theme of the collection is what one might call the “voice of the streets” and the desire to address the quotidian struggle of mankind with oneself and with its external pressures. “At War” – with yourself, with reality – is intended less as a political slogan and more as a description of the internal state within us all – our daily need to protest and resist our realities. Similarly, the main slogan – “STAY PROTECTED” – offers a stark reminder of the everyday necessity of self-defense, calling on us to always remain “protected” (a phrase that carries with it the additional connotations of HIV and gay rights.)

As for the style, these objects feature strong, clean, and angular silhouettes with a “battle-ready” character. The collection maintains a dominant palette of black tones diluted by Bordeaux and creamy white to facilitate a structure of concise uniformity. Her designs come to life with utilitarian fabrics to nod at the notion that we must always be at war with the forces that attempt to force us change from our truest self. She uses Latex as nod to a second skin, thinking of these garments as a form of self-protection from the outside world. Alina also taps her fine arts with the collection’s centerpiece, a while cotton suit, consisting of a mini skirt and a loosely fitted jacket, hand-branded by the designer with aerosol spray cans to imitate street graffiti. Slogans like “At War” and “Stay Protected” emblaze pieces from the collection – reminding us to be in touch with the truest version of ourselves.

Alina created a conceptual installation in the space that plays on this theme. The models interacted with the installed concrete blocks that were inspired by images of derelict remnants of urbanization and industrial landscapes; the fading echoes of street art and graffiti; and the romanticized depiction of cold concrete and brutalist architecture.

BUICK: A CLASSIC REBORN

By Krishan Narsinghani x Vaughn Lowery

360 Magazine was recently invited to test-drive the redesigned 2018 Buick Enclave Avenir FWD 1 SP in Carmel, California. The model type avenir derives from a concept car introduced in 2017. Avenir translates to “future” in French and the modern aesthetics do not disappoint. Buick has since mirrored those design elements on multiple vehicles.

Walking up to the luxury three row crossover, drivers can start their engine with a new remote start key. The Enclave introduces sharper lines and athletic curves. The headlights and taillights are slimmer to create a skinnier look when in fact the vehicle is larger. Speaking of size, family trips just became easier with a spacey seven seater inside and roomy trunk. Buick reaped the benefits of high strength steel shaving roughly 400 pounds off the previous model.

This lifestyle voyager sets the stage featuring a bespoke-like interior with a two tone color pattern making the Enclave an executive family car perfect for a trip or a late-night urban outing. Avenir has not only set the bar with design but also in technology as a revolutionary rear view mirror transforms into a screen bleeding to the edges of the mirror for a second back-up camera that faces an eye level view. This camera travels faster than five mph to give a real-time view of moving surroundings. Apple CarPlay is also a new feature for iPhone users to drive safely. Located under the tail, drivers can kick a foot activated swivel to open the trunk. Finding the hands free lever becomes easier with a ghost lit Buick emblem highlighting the lever area.

Reduce carbon footprint through carpooling while the crossover adjusts fuel efficiency at 18 miles per gallon on city roads, 26 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon with mixed driving.

The team alongside Buick explored Carmel-by-the-sea and the fairytale land the city has to offer. The team joined Carmel Valley Ranch to see the daily life of a professional beekeeper. 360 handled the bees, watched honey come to life and even found the queen bee do her thing. While driving around the beach-city on California’s Monterey Peninsula, Buick stopped at the harbor for a kayaking expedition.  In-between adventures, the team had a chance to get acquainted with the smooth feel and driving style of the vehicle.

The Enclave packs a 3.6L V6 with 310 HP and also includes stop/start technology. Peak horsepower comes in at 6,800 RPM thanks to a nine speed automatic transmission. As one of the top luxury models, quiet cabins are enforced with QuietTuning. The weight saving translates to nimble handling and ride is soft while the body leans in the corners. The Buick Enclave Avenir’s base price is set at $53,500. Additional information can be found on their website.

Grand Basel Show Delivers Unforgettable First Impression

Grand Basel, the ultimate global show for automotive masterpieces, has closed the doors to its first fair in Basel and is celebrating the resounding success of its debut on the world stage. More than 12,000 people including international connoisseurs, experts and collectors, as well as culture enthusiasts with a broad spectrum of passions.

As an inaugural show that was designed to demonstrate the spectacular presentation of the Grand Basel show concept, approximately one fourth of the cars on display were officially available to buy.

The show’s exhibits were carefully selected to just 113 cars, spread over a total show space of 32,000 square metres. Exceptional cars travelled to the show from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the UK, Italy.

As well as showcasing exclusive and rare cars of the highest calibre, Grand Basel presented cultural highlights and several world premieres. The fascinating ‘Linea Diamante‘ car by Gio Ponti was revealed by Prof. Paolo Tumminelli, leader of ‘The Automobile by Ponti’ project to make the 1:1- scale model a reality, 65 years after it was designed.

Other global show debuts at Grand Basel included the Delta Integrale Futurista by Automobili Amos, a restored and reimagined version of the iconic Italian hot hatch using contemporary materials and technologies; and the 2020 Tesla Roadster, which was never presented in Europe before.

Appearing for the first time at any public show anywhere in the world, the ex-Pablo Picasso Lincoln Continental was presented by Swiss artist and Grand Basel advisory board member, Sylvie Fleury. Chairman of the advisory board, Prof. Paolo Tumminelli, showed his own interpretation of automotive culture – a derelict, but entirely driveable and useable – Fiat Panda 45.

Fiat 500 Spiaggina by Garage Italia was presented by renowned creative entrepreneur Lapo Elkann – a new car built to the same principles of the original Fiat ‘Jolly’ but brought right up-to-date. Advisory board member and legendary designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, was honoured at the show with a group of cars to celebrate his 80th birthday year. Within his curated frame was the GFG Sibylla GG 80, bringing together beautiful design with a zero-emissions powertrain.

Elsewhere at the show, cultural commentator and author Stephen Bayley presented the Ford Consul Capri designed by Colin Neal, a fascinating blend of American form, Italian name and British desire. The final advisory board curated frame was by design theoretician Prof. Dr. Michael Erlhoff, whose take on automotive culture was a selection of exquisite 1:87-scale model cars.

Grand Basel not only brought together some of the world’s most exceptional cars but presented them in a surrounding reminiscent of modern museums, honouring them as the masterpieces that they are.

Speaking after the inaugural show, Global Director Mark Backé said: “We promised that Grand Basel was not just another car show, and the guests to our first fair in Basel understand that this promise was kept. As this was the first impression for Grand Basel, certain sections were less commercial in nature and designed more as an exhibition, so that the concept could be introduced in the appropriate manner. We truly celebrated excellence in motion and were joined by a broad audience of collectors and enthusiasts interested in automobile aesthetics, technological sophistication, art and culture.”

Initial media reception to the first show has been outstanding, with the presentation hailed as “a feast of automotive beauty”, “the car as rolling sculpture”, and one publication proclaiming: “the organisers of Grand Basel have truly reinvented the motor show”.

Guests of Grand Basel provided their personal impressions from the debut show, a selection of which are included below:

Flavio Manzoni, Senior Vice President of Design at Ferrari S.p.A.:

“It’s so important to show the shape of a car as it was intended, as a masterpiece or a work of art. These presentation frames are great at stimulating contemplation – normally, we’re used to seeing cars in noisy and chaotic environments. But here, there’s nothing but the car, its name, and its date. There are no distractions.”

Duccio Lopresto, representative of the Lopresto Collection:

“Firstly, the design concept is unique and secondly, the selection of cars is amazing. It looks like we’re in an indoor Concours d’Elegance, which is very unusual and new for the scene. The focus is very much on art and design, which are my two favourite things in the car world, and I like that it’s a fresh and younger concept.”

Carlo Borromeo, Chief Designer at Automobili Amos:

“The car industry is at an important turning point right now with big changes coming on a technological and cultural level. As a result, people are finally coming to terms with the fact that cars are not just instruments, but they can be artistic and emotional objects. I have spent half of my life learning from people older than me and now I’m learning from people who are younger. This new generation really cares about these cars on a cultural level and this is the first show I’ve seen where this attitude is not only accepted, but also celebrated.”

Marc Kienle, Head of Kienle Automobiltechnik GmbH:

“We feel well presented here at Grand Basel. This environment is a perfect match for our automobiles. We met many interesting guests which are exactly our target group and talks with the potential buyers have already progressed. Participation in one of the next Grand Basel shows is of great interest to us.”

Frank Wirzberger, Brand Manager for Bugatti Frankfurt and Munich Dörr Automobiles GmbH:

“This year we wanted to see what the first show would be like, but for the next show we will certainly look to host something at Grand Basel for our own customers, to share this incredible new experience of automotive presentation with them. A challenge of our daily business is to reach new customers, and this turned out to be very easy and successful at Grand Basel.”

The format of Grand Basel was conceived so that presentation of the show in various locations around the world is part of the agenda. The automobile influences – and is influenced by – society and culture in every part of the globe, and so the discussions at Grand Basel will always have relevance.

AdventureSmith: Small Ship vs. Big Ship Cruising

AdventureSmith Explorations’ Todd Smith, founder and president, recalls when privately chartered yachts and fishing boats were the only way – aside from the traditional cruise ship – to take a vacation at sea.

In 2003, this company leapt into uncharted waters and began securing a legacy for today’s small ship cruise industry. Categorized by guest capacity, the experts at AdventureSmith Explorations have defined three vessel options to choose from: “adventure yachts” accommodating 8 to 40 guests, “expedition ships” for 41 to 200 passengers and “traditional cruise ships” for vessels with larger capacities above 200 passengers and reaching up to 5,000+. Each has its advantages and limitations.

“The number of passengers a ship carries relates directly to the experiences a client seeks,” Smith says. “Vacationers who prefer resorts over boutique hotels prefer large cruise ships. Those underwhelmed at the thought of embarking from mega-hub ports to dine and lodge on floating resorts with Las Vegas-style entertainment may prefer an adventure yacht or expedition ship.”

AdventureSmith Explorations capitalizes on another key difference between large and small vessels. The hull of a large ship precludes it from entering smaller ports of call and anchorages, thus curtailing off-the-beaten path cultural forays and up-close explorations of flora and fauna along remote shore lines that are the specialty of yachts and expedition ships. See: http://www.adventuresmithexplorations.com/small-ship-vs-big-ship—what-is-the-difference

When fine-tuning a reservation, AdventureSmith Explorations’ staff focus on traveler preferences to recommend which small ship to choose. Some travelers may be most comfortable in the intimate, family environment of small adventure yachts, while those seeking more cabin space, private balconies or more varied activity options for their group may want to opt for an expedition ship. On all small ships, notes Smith, the focus of activities connected with smaller vessels exceeds expectations. Keen on adventure, passengers spend most daylight hours off the boat, kayaking, snorkeling and on guided Zodiac and land excursions.

When he started his company, Smith says he didn’t envision the dramatic growth in adventure tourism (predicted to grow nearly 50 percent from 2016 to 2020) that would factor into the company’s success.

“Our small ships bring people to adventures in wild regions all over the globe. Imagine kayaking in front of massive glaciers and watching whales breach from a small Zodiac. Many of the places that our small ships visit can be logistically challenging, perhaps involving a long hike in or chartering a plane or simply cannot be reached in any other way (e.g. Antarctica). Small ships make access to these incredible locations not only possible but also provide a comfortable bed, hot shower and a nice glass of wine,” Smith promises.

Following are 9 Standouts in Small Ship Cruising that exemplify the fusion of small ships and adventure in not-to-be-missed destinations.

Adventure Yachts (8-40 passengers):

Safari Explorer 36-Guest – Luxury motor yacht divides its year between Hawaii in winter and Alaska in summer

– Galapagos Grace 18-Guest – The late Princess Grace of Monaco once owned this yacht that now sails in Galapagos waters

– Westward 8-Guest – Classic beauty that dates to 1924 sails Alaska and Baja

Delfin II 28-Guest – Deluxe riverboat designed for exploring the Peruvian Amazon

Origin 20-Guest – Sleek motor yacht built for sustainability in order to cruise the fragile Galapagos ecosystem

Ombak Putih 24-Guest – Romantic sailing vessel that explores Bali, among other Indonesian destinations

Expedition Ships (41-200 passengers):

Hebridean Sky 114-Guest – An expedition ship that hosts a Citizen Science Program on Antarctica explorations

Sea Cloud 58-Guest – The historic Marjorie Merriweather Post windjammer, a beauty of a sailing yacht for cruising the Greek Isles and Dalmatian Coast.

National Geographic Orion 102-Guest – A state-of-art expedition ship cruising Antarctica with National Geographic certified guides.
