About Sing 2

This holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as the ever-optimistic Buster Moon and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star—played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut—to join them.

Buster (Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey) has turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City.

But with no connections, Buster and his cast—including harried mother Rosita (Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, provocateur Gunter (Nick Kroll)—have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by ruthless mogul Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).

In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife. Even worse, Buster has failed to realize that Mr. Crystal is an egocentric gangster who would rather drop somebody off the roof of a building than be lied to.

As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Rosita’s leading role in the show gets ripped away and handed to Mr. Crystal’s spoiled daughter, Porsha, played by Grammy-nominated artist Halsey. Desperate to save the show, and his life, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage.

What begins as a dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.

Sing 2 is written and directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Garth Jennings and features additional new characters played by music superstar Pharrell Williams, Black Panther’s Letitia Wright and comedians Eric André and Chelsea Peretti. The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Janet Healy. Sing 2 combines dozens of hit songs from pop to rock, K-pop to Latin, and from artists including Billie Eilish, Drake, U2, The Weeknd, Prince, Taylor Swift, BTS, Cardi B, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. With electrifying performances, breathtaking artistry and Illumination’s signature humor and heart, Sing 2 is sure to be the definitive feel-good cinematic event of the year.

News & Topics

“Butoh” is a form of dance performance that began in Japan in the 1960s and then spread to the rest of the world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, performance inspired Butoh will be available online as a part of the TOKYO REAL UNDERGROUND dance festival. This festival is one of “Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13” projects sponsored by Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo. (a series of events being held to celebrate culture and arts in Tokyo in culmination with the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020). Experimental performances will be performed by a diverse mix of veteran and new artists.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched the Tokyo 2020 Portal Site as a way for people to stay up to date on all news related to the Tokyo 2020 Games. The site has information on the Tokyo 2020 Games, places to visit in Tokyo during the events, the torch relay, ways to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, and information for people overseas who cannot attend the events. Make sure to check the portal site for real-time information on the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Up for a trip back in time to one of Tokyo’s most well-known commercial districts? Using revolutionary virtual technology, you can visit the Ginza 4 Chome intersection during the Edo Era (1850s), the Meiji Era (1910s), and the Showa Era (1940s). The area during these time periods has been amazingly recreated in a virtual space that seems so real that you’ll swear you’re actually there. Experience how Ginza changed through the years with the online “Tokyo Time Machine Project – Ginza VR.”

Do you enjoy saunas and art? The art collective teamLab has created an exhibition in Roppongi, the likes of which the world has never been seen before. This new exhibition gives you a nuanced experience as you view artwork in saunas. You’ll be able to enjoy several works, including a new group of pieces based on teamLab’s latest project “Supernature Phenomenon.” The exhibition runs until August 31. Tokyo is always the best place to enjoy the latest creations of teamLab. Needless to say, teamLab Borderless and teamLab Planets, both of these are must-visit museums in Tokyo!

Tokyo nightlife just got a lot more sensational. On April 1, Japan’s premier magic theater, MAHOU Dining Bar OSMAND ~The Gate of Iaract~, reopened in Roppongi. A new LED monitor installed on the stage. You can see the various landscapes and images on the large LED monitor. OSMAND delivers a more fantastic and powerful magic show than ever. MAHOU is able to get many of the world-renowned magicians to put on shows. For the first time in Japan, you’ll be able to enjoy a combination of in-person and online magic shows.

Over the past 15 years, the creative collective known as “rhizomatiks” has been making works that transcend the realm of media art. From now, until June 20, you can enjoy their old and new works throughout their archive at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) ’s special large-scale exhibition entitled rhizomatiks_multiplex. Kiyosumi Shirakawa, the area where the MOT is located, also saw an increase on residency of international artists. A new project also allows you to view these works online.

Asakusa today. New vitality in a historical town

The COVID-19 pandemic has left Tokyo almost devoid of overseas tourists. The city never rests, however, and has been busy making preparations for the day when we can all travel freely over national borders. Tokyo carries on with the traditional, while always in the process of recreating itself. Read more here.

Huntington Beach Gears Up for Surf City Dreamin’ 117th Annual Independence Day Celebration from July 2-4

The Celebration will Feature Neighborhood Car Parades, Fireworks Over the Ocean, Virtual and In-Person 5K Run, Pier Plaza Festival, and Home/Business Decorating Contests

117 years ago, the city of Huntington Beach hosted its first 4th of July celebration. The city has since grown into a world-class destination, yet its small town sensibilities and rich history continue to take center stage during our Annual 4th of July celebration.

This year’s celebration will be held from July 2–4, 2021, and has been modified to adhere to statewide COVID-19 guidelines that may be in place at that time. Festivities include neighborhood car parades, an outdoor pier plaza festival, socially distanced and virtual Surf City 5k runs, and home/business decorating contests. The events will be capped off with an incredible firework show over the Pacific Ocean.

“There’s no better place to celebrate the 4th of July than Huntington Beach,” says Mayor Kim Carr. “Our residents truly embrace the spirit of independence, and we invite the community to come out and take part in the modified celebration. We have something for everyone and look forward to celebrating with you this year.”

July 4 – Surf City Run 5K (in-person and virtual)

This year’s in-person 5K Run is a marathon-qualifying event that will take runners through Huntington Central Park–the largest city-owned park in Orange County, which covers over 350 acres of land. The event will feature staggered start times to offer a socially distanced experience. Organizers have also developed a virtual race for runners who prefer to compete in their own time and comfort level. The City encourages runners to register now to secure early-bird pricing and to attend the runners’ expo and bib pick-up event on July 3. For more info, visit HERE.

July 4 – Neighborhood Car Parade

Drivers, start your engines!  At 8:00 am, the Huntington Beach 4th of July Neighborhood Car Parade will split into three procession, winding through local neighborhoods and finishing at the Pier Plaza parking lot, where a number of the cars will remain on display throughout the day. Participating vehicles include the GHOSTBUSTERS “ambulance;” Disney character car Lightning McQueen; Herbie the Love Bug; a double-decker London Transport bus; boat-towing monster trucks and more. Detailed parade routes will be published HERE. Visit the site to inquire about driving a family, athlete or a dignitary in a parade car.

July 4 – Fireworks Show and Condor Squadron Flyover!

And finally, the main event. The Condor Squadron Flyover and aerial acrobatics will start at approximately 5:25PM. Beginning at about 8:50PM, a world-class fireworks extravaganza will ignite over the Huntington Beach with a patriotic soundtrack accompaniment is to broadcast live. The fireworks show will put the exclamation mark on a weekend of celebrations, widely known as the largest of such west of the Mississippi.

Note Regarding COVID-19

The City of Huntington Beach will continually monitor statewide reopening guidance and implement any that are required to safely host the 4th of July Celebrations. All updates will be available HERE.

Pacific Paradise Pools has joined Huntington Beach as the event’s first major sponsor. They have developed a reputation for backyard design excellence as an award-winning swimming pool builder in OC. JLO × COACH

By Cassandra Yany

Coach unveiled its holiday campaign with the central message “Holiday Is Where You Find It.” It emphasizes the message that holiday is a state of mind regardless of how you’re celebrating this year.

There is no doubt that 2020 has been a unique year for everyone. Coach acknowledges this through the campaign and underscores that during these unprecedented times, the meaning of the holidays remains the same no matter how different festivities may look this year. They encourage fans of the brand to “cherish the big things, celebrate the small things.”

“Holiday Is Where You Find It” highlights Coach’s belief in optimism, finding joy in the little things and seeking comfort in togetherness and family traditions. The campaign will be presented in a series of short vignettes and images showcasing the cast celebrating new and old traditions.

The cast consists of Jennifer Lopez and Michael B. Jordan and their families, as well as ambassadors such as Kiko Mizuhara, Jeremy Lin and Yang Zi. Other members of the Coach Family featured in additional content include Camila Morrone, Megan Thee Stallion, Quincy, Yuna and Ramla Ali.

Jordan is depicted celebrating Kwanzaa with his parents Michael B. Jordan Sr. and Donna Jordan, brother Khalid Jordan and sister Jamila Jordan-Theus. A video shows the family setting up the lights outside to spread holiday cheer. “Hanging out and giving back, honestly that’s at the top of my list,” said Jordan.

Lopez is seen on Coach’s Instagram with her mother Guadelupe Lopez, and her children Emme and Max Muñiz. “I find holiday in the smiles on my kids’ faces,” said Lopez. “Number one on my to-do list is to count my blessings.” She is photographed wearing the Beat Shoulder Bag and the Holiday Cityscape Intarsia Sweater.

Lopez’s involvement in the holiday campaign follows her first collaboration with the fashion brand for the Coach X Jennifer Lopez Hutton Bag which launched earlier this month. The bag was designed with Creative Director Stuart Vevers and inspired by Coach and Lopez’s shared values of authenticity and inclusivity. It combines Coach as a modern-day icon with Lopez’s unique approach to style.

The holiday campaign spotlights the Beat Shoulder Bag, inspired by the downtown attitude of New York. The purse has three compartments for organization and a secure snap closure. The crossbody strap allows for hands-free wear, while the interchangeable chain strap lets you carry the bag. Crafted with soft leather, the Beat Shoulder Bag is available in a variety of colors and patterns, with distinct embellishments accenting some of the versions.

Also presented is the new Hitch backpack and belt bag for men. Each comes in three different color variations. The backpack is available in solid black and patterned black/gray, brown/black and brown/tan displaying Coach logos, while the belt bag is sold in solid amber and patterned brown and brown/tan with logos. Made of leather and canvas, the backpack is spacious and has multiple pockets for accessories. The bag is durable and lightweight, making it multifunctional and perfect for anything from work to travel. The leather belt bag was created with a hands-free design, and the zip closures and exterior pocket make essential items easily accessible. The bag can effortlessly be dressed up or down.

A social series will feature the archive-inspired Swinger Bag, which was first introduced in the ‘80s and has been reimagined for today. The short-strap shoulder bag is available in both nylon and leather. The bag is sold in a number of solid colors and a patterned version containing Coach’s signature jacquard. It is secured with a zipper, along with the iconic turn-lock closure. The Swinger Bag also has a detachable strap for those who want to style it as a crossbody.

Coach worked with a global family of creatives to bring this campaign to life. This team included photographers and directors Ryan McGinley, Renell Medrano, Hao Zeng, Brad Ogbonna, Takako Noel, Gen Yoshida, Fan Xin, DJ Furth, Zhangmeng, Jian LV and Christelle de Castro.

Toledo Jeep Fest

From August 10-12, 2018, the City of Toledo will be the center of the Jeep universe.

The event is the 2018 Toledo Jeep® Fest, presented by Dana and ProMedica. But the celebration is much more than that. It’s enthusiasts from 27 states, Canada and Mexico celebrating their love for Jeep vehicles and an adventurous way of life – and, doing it in the city where the Jeep was invented and where its heart beats every day: Toledo, Ohio.

The first Toledo Jeep Fest – a one-day celebration in 2016 – was an unqualified success, bringing an estimated 40,000 people to downtown Toledo, which was the most for any event since the end of World War II.

Even with that high standard already established, the second Toledo Jeep Fest is set to be even bigger and even better. In fact, event organizers and downtown leaders expect as many as 60,000 people to be in town for the festivities, which have expanded to three days.

“The history of Jeep is the history of Toledo,” said Jerry Huber, a former plant manager at Jeep and a co-founder of Toledo Jeep Fest. “The community deserves a festival that’s as great as the vehicle we are celebrating, and with the incredible support of our community and sponsors, that’s what we are going to deliver.”

The 2016 event was a major happening for the City of Toledo. Beyond the large number of visitors to downtown, social media users from around the world learned about Toledo and Jeep. In fact, Toledo Jeep Fest was a trending topic nationally on Twitter.

The buzz is equally strong building up to this year’s event. In addition to hundreds of thousands of hits on the event website, the Facebook page has over 20,000 followers. A recent throwback Thursday post reached nearly 13,000 people with almost 700 reactions, comments and shares.

Community support is what fuels Toledo Jeep Fest forward. That starts with the title sponsors – Dana and ProMedica – and extends to more than 60 organizations that have provided cash or services to support the event. (See list below.)

Discussing Dana’s Toledo Jeep Fest sponsorship, Jeff Cole, spokesperson for Dana, said “Jeep is an iconic automotive brand, and Dana has been supplying its driveline products since the Jeep was born. Our team is excited to show off the great work they’ve been doing with our custom aftermarket Jeeps.”

Following the leadership of the presenting sponsors, Toledo Jeep Fest has benefitted from the support of dozens of other partners.

“Every local sponsor has increased their commitment this year,” Huber said. “In total, our three-day event has received more than double the support of the previous event. It is tremendously humbling.”

Importantly, based on the success in 2016, this year’s event has garnered support from larger regional and national vendors. More than 60 vendors including Dana, Tenneco, SPIDERWEBSHADE, Outlaw LED, Steinjäger, Sylvania Automotive, X-DIFF Gear & Axle, and Goodyear will stock the all-new Vendor Midway in downtown Toledo. This year’s Vendor Midway showcases these brands on and around St. Clair Street just north of the SeaGate Centre.

“One thing visitors will notice compared to 2016 is the development of our Vendor Midway,” Huber said. “We know that people love to customize their Jeeps, and the Vendor Midway is an opportunity for our Jeep enthusiasts to interact with the leading companies working in that space.”

Three Days of Jeep!

The signature event for the weekend is the All-Jeep Parade, which starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The parade will be a rolling tribute to Jeep, with over 1,300 vehicles registered – a longer parade than the original in 2016. The parade is sponsored by Charlie’s Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram and Grogan’s Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.

Following the parade, Toledo’s downtown streets will be transformed into the All-Jeep Festival & Car Show – a 20-block walking tour of the full breadth of the Jeep experience. Based on the 2016 festival, the All-Jeep vehicle show is also an opportunity for the Jeep community to meet and mingle.

Similar to 2016, the SeaGate Convention Centre will play host to futuristic Jeeps alongside rare, historic Jeeps that represent the resiliency and versatility that Jeep has shown over the last 77 years.

An all-new event this year is Friday’s Jeep Off-Road Course Welcome Party, hosted by the Monroe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Superstore. The welcome party will feature 18 obstacles and live music to kick the weekend off.

Toledo Jeep Fest is also offering visitors the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a host of Jeep-related products. The grand prize is a 24-month lease for a 2018 Jeep Wrangler “JL” Unlimited Sport 4 Door from Yark Automotive group. Tickets can be purchased online at ToledoJeepFest.com or at the event.

More than Jeeps

While the focus of the weekend is a celebration of the Jeep, event organizers have worked hard to create a family-friendly environment with the feel of a major festival.

That includes an even stronger selection of live music taking place on three stages: one at Promenade Park, one at the SeaGate Centre, and one at Levis Square on St. Clair Street. “Thanks to Rouen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for sponsoring all the entertainment and festivities happening in Promenade Park,” said Huber. “And, thanks to our friends at Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 33 for sponsoring all the entertainment and festivities happening in the SeaGate Convention Centre!”

The kick-off concert on Friday night will feature national headliner KC and the Sunshine Band at Promenade Park. The band, which began performing in 1973, will bring their entire catalog to town, including five number-one songs.

Saturday’s music lineup will kick off with The Infatuations, a band featuring “Funk, Soul, and Detroit Rock & Roll.” The Infatuations are winners of “Top Band” at the Detroit Music Awards and feature an unforgettably unique sound.

For the kids, Toledo Jeep Fest will feature the Kid’s Zone, which is being hosted by Imagination Station and will also offer activities from the Toledo Zoo and the Toledo Museum of Art. The Kid’s Zone is being sponsored by the National Electrical Contractors Association.

The Sunday portion of the festival will be highlighted by a 4-Mile Run and 1-Mile Walk, which is hosted by Run Toledo and sponsored by Sylvania Automotive.

About The Harold Robinson Foundation:

The Harold Robinson Foundation is a 501(c)2 founded in 2009 by Jeff Robinson, Joyce Hyser Robinson and David Moss. It began with an idea from Jeff Robinson, almost 20 years ago; that every child should have the same opportunities he had as a kid, no matter where they stand on the socioeconomic ladder. The foundation is named for Jeff’s late father. The Harold Robinson Foundation provides the funding and resources to send Los Angeles’s less fortunate children to camp, in a safe and nurturing environment, far away from the stress that most of them face on a daily basis. The foundation also runs a summer day at the Markham Middle School in Watts, CA. For more information, visit www.haroldrobinsonfoundation.org/.
