“Dear Science is a brilliant balancing act between pop aspiration and music-geek aesthetics.” -Rolling Stone

“On ‘Dear Science,’TVOTR embraces emotions of the here and now — lust, anger, the dancer’s bliss.” -Ann Powers Los Angeles Times

“Career-defining stuff.” -The Guardian

“Yes, this is shit-hot thrilling music. But it’s also brainy and ambivalent, and more engaging for it.” -Pitchfork

“TV on the Radio traded its noisiness for clarity, the better to reveal the workings of its ambitious, multilayered songs: programming and hands-on playing, rock and funk, elegies and dance grooves, accusations and embraces. Each song follows its own idiosyncratic path from mourning to affirmation.” – New York Times

Pirelli Sets A New Record

There’s a new lap record at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife and another record for Pirelli, continuing a sequence that began in 2010. In the last eight years, there have been eight records set at the ‘Green Hell’ by cars equipped with Pirelli P Zero tires. Specifically, the P Zero Trofeo R: a motorsport tire homologated for road use as well.

The most recent lap record was set by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which has achieved another benchmark at the historic German track: a lap of 6m44.97s. For Lamborghini, this is the second record established in the last three years: an illustrious achievement that started with the Aventador LP-750-4 SV, which set a time under the seven-minute barrier, followed by the (whose record stood until September 2017) and now the Aventador SVJ.

The latest version of the V12-powered Lamborghini will be delivered to customers with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires as standard, whereas the record-breaking P Zero Trofeo R tires will be available as optional equipment. Both tires have been developed in new versions specific to the Aventador SVJ, as a result of the close collaboration between Lamborghini engineers and those of Pirelli, who have been able to maximize performance by adapting the characteristics of the tires to those of the car.

One particular reference during the development process was the lap time at the Nardo handling circuit in Italy, where the Aventador SVJ and its new P Zero Corsa tires was able to make a gain of two seconds per lap compared to the P Zero Corsa fitted to the previous Aventador SV. For this new Lamborghini, the main challenge was to marry the four-wheel drive system with four-wheel steering. The tires also have to guarantee a consistent rotation, in order to optimally distribute the torque so that the Haldex clutch system is not stressed.

The Nurburgring Nordschleife is loved by everyone who is passionate about driving, as well as by the world’s leading car manufacturers, who use the 20.6 demanding kilometers of track to develop their most performance-focused models. Pirelli also uses the epic Nordschleife to fine-tune all the different versions of P Zero tires, which have now reached 1028 specific homologations, created according to the requests of manufacturers who want to ensure that their cars are equipped with tires capable of complementing each model’s performance. So every car ends up with its very own Pirelli P Zero tire, which can be distinguished with a specific marking on the sidewall – such as ‘L’ for Lamborghini.

BMI STAGE SCHEDULE – SATURDAY, AUGUST 4th

GRACE WEBER | 1:00-1:40pm

“A talented artist who knows how to move you and your body with soulful grooves and real AF lyrics.” – Okayplayer

GRAMMY Award-winner Grace Weber is a star on the rise. An accomplished singer/songwriter, Weber collaborated with Chance the Rapper and Kanye West, co-writing and singing on “All We Got,” the opening track of Chance’s GRAMMY-winning Coloring Book. Her singles, “More Than Friends” and “Elated,” shot to the top of Spotify’s charts, and her performance at SXSW was compared to a “religious experience” byNylon. Beyond her flourishing success, Weber is the cofounder of The Music Lab, Inc, a non-profit organization that provides free music education, career preparation and performance programs to high-school students in her hometown of Milwaukee.

DAVIE | 2:10 – 2:50pm

“There are many types of musicians; some look good, some move good, some are great songwriters, some are great singers. DAVIE is all of these. He has a sound that fits next to the biggest names in contemporary R&B and that can hang comfortably with the giants of the genre’s past, all the way back to his hero, James Brown.” – Ticketmaster Insider

Inspired by the passion of vintage soul and the emotional uplift of gospel, New Jersey native DAVIE cut his musical teeth singing in churches in a traveling gospel band. His vocal prowess led him to Los Angeles, where he found work singing back-up for artists like Chris Brown, Cee-Lo Green and Childish Gambino. But it wasn’t until he went back to the churches of his youth that he found the key to unlock his own path. His debut EP, Black Gospel Vol.1, is filled with both Davie’s fiery spiritual passion and the celebratory energy of contemporary R&B, making the euphoria his songs can generate palpable.

BONES (UK) | 3:20 – 4:00pm

“This is Trent Reznor-level cool. BONES is doing the whole damn thing, middle fingers to the sky and in full control of their work. Rock on.” —NYLON

To hear them explain it, British duo BONES (UK) is “leading the charge of taking rock’n’roll firmly into the 31st century.” Comprised of vocalist Rosie Bones and guitarist Carmen Van Den Berg, the band has already racked up some serious cred to back up their claim. After hearing an early gig by the duo in London’s Camden Town, rock legend Jeff Beck asked Bones and Van Den Berg to collaborate—as both co-writers and players—on his 2016 album Loud Hailer. After gaining a massive following off of singles “Beautiful is Boring” and “Girls Can’t Play Guitar,” it’s easy to see why they have caught the attention and toured with the likes of: Highly Suspect, Band of Skulls, KOOKS, PVRIS, Skunk Anansie and Miyavi.

MELVV | 4:30 – 5:10pm

“[Melvv] has been thrilling listeners with his jazzed-up dance music for years now…continuing to cement his status as a dynamic provocateur.” – Dancing Astronaut

Melvv is the artist project of Milwaukee, WI producer/DJ Jeffrey Melvin. He started producing music at age 12 after being inspired by a video of Daft Punk’s 2007 Paris concert. Melvv is currently signed to Atlantic Records and has a new EP releasing in the fall, which he will be performing at his Lolla Set.

MORGXN | 5:40 – 6:20pm

“Morgxn captivated fans with his infectious pop musicality that’s expertly infused with deeply personal, complex yet relatable lyrics. It’s in this honesty, vulnerability, and authenticity that morgxn’s music resonates and connects with his legion of fans.” -Ones to Watch

morgxn, at age 8, became the youngest member of the Nashville Symphony Choir, and at age 9 penned his fist song “I’ll Always Be There for You.” morgxn decamped from Nashville to Los Angeles, in order to find “space to think, breathe, and be with myself.” While at a party he was asked if he wanted to meet Stevie Nicks, who sagely told the young songwriter, “You have to keep moving. This world will walk all over you if you don’t just keep going.” This advice changed morgxn’s life and his career. His debut album inspired by loss, Vital, is filled with cascading synth-scapes and cool beats, celebrating the emotional complexities of the human condition. His breakout single, “Home,” has earned nearly 7 million Spotify streams, and even inspired a partnership with The Covenant House, a charity for young runaways.

VERA BLUE | 6:50 – 7:30pm

“There are many things we can be grateful to Australia for…but topping the list must be new alt-pop queen Vera Blue, who is undoubtably on the path to world domination.” – Paper Magazine

Vera Blue is an Australian singer/songwriter who started off playing acoustic folk music before adding lush, sultry electronic elements to broaden her sound. The results are sometimes gentle, sometimes ferocious and always show-stopping, with her commanding vocals front and center. After some crucial collabs with artists like Illy and Slumberjack, she released her EP Fingertips in 2016, followed by her debut album Perennial the following year. Response to both her recorded work and live shows have been rapturous.

Mullin Automotive Museum’s Seven French Classics During Monterey Car Week

The collection will be headlined by the 2018 “Best of the Best” winner, a 1936 Bugatti Atlantic 57SC, as well as other concours-worthy classics including a 1950 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix, a 1963 Citroën DS19 Concorde and more

The Mullin Automotive Museum announced it will display seven French classics at various events during the world-renowned Monterey Car Week. Guests of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will have a chance to see prized classics including the 2018 Peninsula Classics Best of the Best-winning 1936 Bugatti Atlantic 57SC, a 1950 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix, a 1963 Citroen DS19 Concorde and more from the museum’s prestigious collection.

Since the Mullin’s inception in 2010, its mission has been to show and exhibit its cars to educate the public about twentieth-century French automotive styling and design. Monterey Car Week provides the ultimate stage for these French classics.

“Each year, we select some of the best motorcars to bring to the Monterey Peninsula,” said Mullin Automotive Museum Founder and CEO Peter Mullin. “Aligning with the museum’s mission statement, these classics should be enjoyed not only in an exhibit setting but also in shows around the world. We’re excited about this year’s showcase and hope passionate car enthusiasts in attendance will be equally ecstatic.”

The events and the automobiles to be featured are as follows:

Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion– August 22-25, 2018

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will return to Laguna Seca Raceway and feature the world’s most historically significant competition cars, driven the way they were truly intended. Four cars from the Mullin will be featured at this year’s event and will be available for viewing both up close in the pits and roaring down the main straight.

Setting the pace will be a 1925 Bugatti 35C Grand Prix, which began as the first 35A to be imported to England. The car was later transformed into a 35C by former owner Dick Crosthwaite and marque expert Hugh Conway. In its original configuration, this car finished second at BARC Brooklands at a top lap speed of 103.22 mph driven by Christopher Staniland in 1926. The following year, it won the Brooklands Race and the Bugatti Cup, and subsequently was raced frequently in both Northern and Southern Ireland for several years with very successful results. Peter Mullin purchased the car in 1991 after Hamish Moffatt had completed its restoration in 1986.

A 1938 Talbot-Lago Type 26 SS Roadster will also make an appearance at the historic raceway. This Type 26 was originally designed by Figoni and Falaschi and alter updated by the Chappe Brothers. The car raced at Le Mans in 1939 before being put in storage for the duration of World War II.

Guests will also see another Mullin classic, the 1950 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix, which helped developed the prestige of French racing and develop the reputation of international Formula racing worldwide. With its twin ignition and sleek tapered body, the car has top speeds of more than 166 miles per hour. Since acquiring the car 1992, Peter Mullin has driven it in vintage racing events all over the world.

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering— August 24, 2018

The crown jewel of the Mullin collection, a 1936 Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC, will be displayed on the rolling grasses of Quail Lodge & Gold Club at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. This Atlantic represents the first of only three models ever produced. Marked by riveted flanges on a blue, all-aluminum body, this particular Bugatti is the only surviving “Aéro Coupé,” a designation given to the first two cars that were mechanically very similar to the aerolithe. Delivered new in 1936 to Britain’s Nathaniel Mayer Victor Rothschild, third Baron Rothschild, the car has had only a handful of owners in its 80-year history.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance– August 26, 2018

As the world’s foremost Concours event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will feature two Citroens from the Mullin collection. The first of which, the Henri Chapron-built 1965 DS19 Majesty, is one of only 27 models ever produced. Known for its higher and more angular roofline, the car was ordered by Rene Gaston-Dreyfus in 1964 with particular specifications including striking metallic paint and technologically advanced accessories. It will be a one-of-a-kind feature at the world-class event.

The second car to be showcased is the 1963 DS19 Concorde with its aerodynamic body and sophisticated hydropneumatic suspension. The classic also serves as an important example of elegant bodywork hand built by Chapron himself. One of 38 Concorde models ever made, the car was purchased by Peter Mullin in 2016 in Europe.
