Guns N’ Roses Tour

The Guns N’ Roses Not in This Lifetime tour is winding down, and the band is taking their final act to Europe, with 18 shows that are scheduled across 14 European countries.
Dates for the tour’s last leg are on the Guns N’ Roses official website, along with the venue for each show. The series of shows will begin on 3 June 2018 at the Olympiastadion in Germany and end on 21 July 2018 at the Ullevi Stadium in Sweden.

Back at the Park

The show on 9 June 2018 will be extra special for UK fans as GNR will headline the famed Download Festival, a three-day spectacle held at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

The band’s last visit at Donington Park was both memorable and controversial. An account of the day’s events by Virtual Festival discussed how an unruly crowd threw bottles on the stage, with one hitting then-bassist Tommy Stinson. Axl Rose then slipped on a wet surface, prompting him to storm out, before coming back out and warning the crowd sternly that he would leave if the rowdiness persisted. The crowd calmed long enough for GNR to finish their set, and Rose at one point told fans “I’m actually having quite a good time now!”

About Guns N’ Roses

Guns N Roses are one of the most iconic acts ever to come out of the 80s LA rock scene, and their seminal Appetite for Destruction is a must-have for rock fans. It is number 62 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and as the brief review of the album notes, GNR when firing on all cylinders “left all other Eighties metal bands looking like poodle-haired pretenders.”

watch video:

The band released four more albums before Slash and McKagan left the band in the mid-1990s. It took two decades for the original members (minus Izzy Stradlin) to reunite on stage, much to the delight of hardcore GNR fans who have stood by the band through all these years despite long stretches of inactivity and several line-up changes.

Seeing the original line-up of Guns N’ Roses was once just a pipedream for most fans. At one point only Axl Rose was left from the 1987 Appetite for Destruction line-up. It wasn’t just fans looking back at the band’s heyday, in 2015 it was reported that James Franco was working on a film about the early days of GNR. Outside of the proposed film, the band also has a strong digital presence. The Guns N’ Roses video slot game on Slingo is popular among fans as it is a reminder of the original GNR, with images that fans can identify right away like Slash’s guitar, Rose’s whistle and the trademark padded mic. It even gives a nod to the band’s seminal Appetite for Destruction album. While the film and game kept the hopes of the fans alive, in 2016 GNR answered their prayers by reforming.

The band’s reunion has been wildly successful, and GNR fans in Europe are no doubt looking forward to the tour’s final act. After that who knows? Maybe a new album?

Loewe Foundation x Chance Encounters

The LOEWE FOUNDATION presents the third exhibition in its Chance Encounters series, bringing together artists from various disciplines in order to explore unexpected conversations. This year works by Sara Flynn, Richard Smith and Lionel Wendt are presented within the unique space of the LOEWE Miami Design District store, which was designed around a monumental 18th century granary from Portugal. Made from stone and wood, its presence within the building encapsulates LOEWE’s celebration of past, present and future, and provides a resonant setting for the work of these three artists.

Shadows and the interplay of forms are the threads which tie together the works in this third exhibition, as well as an enduring focus on craftsmanship which is central to the ethos of the LOEWE FOUNDATION. Anderson has chosen three artists, working across the diverse mediums of fabric sculpture, ceramic and photography and spanning the 1930s to the present day.

Jonathan Anderson said: ‘Art and craft are always at the centre of my creative process and these exhibitions are an exciting way of exploring artists that are important to me. I love the unexpected things that happen when people from completely different worlds are brought together, the antagonism can create something completely new.’

Following the presentation of ceramics by Lucie Rie (2015) and John Ward (2016) on the granary, for this exhibition Irish artist Sara Flynn has been commissioned to produce a new body of ceramic work that engages with the space and materiality of the historical building. Despite using a wheel to throw her pots, Flynn’s subsequent interventions result in complex and irregular shapes that challenge our reading of the vessel, bringing them into closer dialogue with the language of sculpture. Through cutting, rejoining and adding to their basic thrown volumes, Flynn creates asymmetrical forms that shift and change across their entire surface. These contours are further complicated by intricately applied glazes which range from blacks, whites and yellows, to those that shift between greys and greens, revealing the delicate layering of colour that makes up their surfaces. Flynn has conceived of the commission as a single group, allowing for a formal journey to unfold from vessel to vessel. Flynn was shortlisted for the inaugural LOEWE Craft Prize in 2017.

Richard Smith was one of the most original artists of his generation. He emerged in the late 1950s and became known for works that challenged the accepted traditions of painting, particularly in his use of shaped canvases which extended them into three-dimensional space. Moving to New York in 1959 he took on the legacies of both Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism, folding them into a language entirely of his own. Soaring above the granary at the LOEWE Miami store will be his major 1975 work Shuttle. Specially commissioned for his 1975 Tate retrospective, it is one of his most important ‘kite’ installations, comprising coloured canvases stretched across aluminium rods reminiscent of tent structures. It echoes ideas he explored in his 1973 commission for Mr Chow’s restaurant in Los Angeles, in which the stretched canvas forms activate the space above the viewer’s head.Smith’s work Both Halves (A) (1977) was acquired by the LOEWE FOUNDATION in 2016 and is currently displayed in its Madrid Flagship store.

Following a major presentation of photographs by artist Paul Nash at the Miami store in 2015, this exhibition presents a series of rare images by the historical Sri Lankan photographer Lionel Wendt (1900–1944). Born in Ceylon, Wendt was originally trained as a concert pianist but took up photography later in life after studying in the UK. He created a groundbreaking body of work that documented life in Ceylon as well as homoerotic portraits that were radical for the time in which they were produced. Wendt pushed the photographic medium to its limits, using experimental exposure and printing techniques, such as solarisation, to create images of astounding beauty and poetry. After his premature death in 1944 most of his negatives were destroyed, but his prints were rediscovered in the 1990s and he is now considered one of the key proponents of modernist photography. Wendt’s photographs were presented as part of the setting for the LOEWE Fall 2017 collection at the UNESCO building in Paris.

The exhibition will run from 5 December 2017 to 4 February 2018. LOEWE

Miami Design District 110 NE 39th Street, Suite #102

2018’s ROCK BAND TO WATCH THUNDERPUSSY RELEASE OFFICIAL “SPEED QUEEN” MUSIC VIDEO TODAY

Today, Seattle rock ‘n’ roll saviors THUNDERPUSSY rev up the music video for their new single “Speed Queen.”

Watch it
HERE!

Once again ripping up old school archetypes and reinventing them, the group—   Molly Sides [vocals], Whitney Petty [guitar], Leah Julius  [bass], and Ruby Dunphy [drums]—take to the desert for the Roadhouse meets West Side Story inspired video.

On the video Molly Sides noted: “Making a music video is like adding the missing ingredient to a sonic recipe. ‘Speed Queen’ is a high octane rebellious story of desire; an aural vision and a labor of love. The energy behind the scenes was intoxicating and we hope that everyone who watches feels and tastes the wild concoction that is ‘Speed Queen.’ And may even want to join the journey of these rebels.”

The video, which premiered on Refinery 29, begins under the red hot Sedona, Arizona sun (as the first line states), where a hyper-charged narrative unfolds as the drifter played by Whitney Petty meets the “Speed Queen,” played by Molly Sides. It mixes rock-n-roll, leather, bar fights, and an epic love story all wrapped to make one killer video.
“Speed Queen” produced by Sylvia Massy [Johnny Cash, Tool] is the first of the band’s string of new music coming soon. Check out “Speed Queen”
Here! Stay tuned for a whole lot more…

Thunderpussy. If Thor’s Hammer of the Gods from “Immigrant Song” landed in the hands of four wise, willful, and wild women? Well, it would sound something like Thunderpussy. The quartet—Molly Sides [vocals], Whitney Petty [guitar], Leah Julius[bass], and Ruby Dunphy [drums]—do the most rock ‘n’ roll thing possible and quite literally fuck up every rock ‘n’ roll stereotype you know to be true, piercing the halls of Valhalla in the process. The Seattle-based group turned into a quiet phenomenon with the endorsement of Rolling Stone and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready as well as a string of already legendary performances under their high-waisted belts. Look out for more music from Thunderpussy soon!

“Best Of’s are a good way of introducing new fans to a big back catalogue.” Explains front man and lyricist Guy Garvey on the band’s reasoning behind this release. “My first Leonard Cohen album was ‘The Best Of’, same with Fleetwood Mac and Nick Drake. It took ages for us to decide what should go on ours but we got there in the end. We are really proud of this. It’s full of memories.”

The Best Of” comes in two versions. The standard version features global hits “One Day Like This” and “Grounds For Divorce,” alongside their current US single “Magnificent (She Says),” taken from the band’s current studio album and UK Number One, “Little Fictions.” Earlier work is represented by live favorites “Mirrorball,” “Scattered Black and Whites,” “Leaders Of The Free World” and “Lippy Kids,” “a gorgeous meditation on adolescence” (The Guardian) and a stand out moment in all elbow live shows.

Always a band that has attracted deserved critical praise for their recordings, (elbow were the first act in history to receive four consecutive 9/10 album reviews from NME), this best of album is the perfect introduction to the amazing musical legacy to date of one of the country’s most beloved and most successful acts, demonstrating that most rare thing in modern music; a band whose story and influence continues to grow with every release.
