India Shawn × Before We Go EP

Los Angeles singer, songwriter and artist India Shawn has just released her new EP Before We Go. India is an artist best described as having a R&B vibe paired with a natural Los Angeles West Coast nature. Before launching her own personal career, India was impacting the industry behind the scenes through the writing. India was featured as a songwriter with cuts for differing artists like Diddy-Dirty Money, El DeBarge and Keri Hilson. She also previously performed at Kanye West’s Sunday Service and toured with Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals.

The path to this release of her new EP was cemented through her single “Don’t Play With My Heart.” The single encapsulated her soulful and distinguished vibes that drew in over 2 million plus streams. JONAH NILSSON — NOW OR NEVER

FEATURES “DIAMOND RING” WITH LEGENDARY GUITARIST STEVE VAI AND NEW SINGLE “INDEPENDENT GIRL” WITH GRAMMY WINNER JACOB COLLIER

SIGNED TO QUINCY JONES MANAGEMENT, VIRAL GENRE-DEFYING ARTIST BREAKS THE MOLD WITH MASTERFUL SOLO DEBUT

“Uber funky” —Guitar World

“A mix of pop, funk-soul and R&B with Nilsson’s own distinct retro-twist… The record displays Nilsson’s vocal range and knack for crafting catchy melodies as the singer delivers the goods in excess.” —Earmilk

Jonah Nilsson, lead vocalist for Dirty Loops, a major YouTube sensation with over 60 million views to date, is breaking new ground today with his debut solo album Now Or Never, available via Jammcard Records. Totally individual and complex in his creation, the pop virtuoso combines elements of R&B, funk, soul and disco for a confident release that hits on all the right beats. Now Or Never includes the recent singles “Diamond Ring” with a shredding guitar solo from the legendary hero Steve Vai, as well as the cover of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Anomalie and Justin Lee Schultz. Fresh off the record is a brand new single “Independent Girl” with 5-time GRAMMY winner Jacob Collier.

According to Jonah, the effervescent track “Independent Girl” has been years in the making. “A few years back I flew to London and wrote this song together with Jacob at his studio. This song is the result of two friends who’ve known each other for a long time, hanging and writing together. It makes it extra special for me to release this out into the world.”

Packed with high-energy bangers, Now Or Never delivers on every level of pop greatness, even tugging on the heartstrings with songs like “Borrowed Time” and “I Just Need” with Tobia Grenholm on bass and Jesper Naenfeldt on guitar. Jonah says “I Just Need” is a song that “goes out to all you lovers out there! I hope to be singing this at a lot of weddings! Don’t forget to tell your loved ones that you love them!”

Signed to Quincy Jones management, the music industry mogul has long been a fan and supporter of Jonah since his early days. Quincy discovered the Swedish singer and multi-instrumentalist through his work with Dirty Loops, before taking him under his wing. Quincy even makes a special cameo in the music video for “Diamond Ring,” a track that also has contributions from Grenholm (bass), Naenfeldt (guitar), Kristian Kraftling (keys) and Kefa Figaro (drums).

“He’s different though, he’s got the perfect balance of right brain creativity and left brain music theory. It’s in his blood,” praises Quincy Jones. “He’s got soul, with one of the biggest ranges I’ve ever heard.”

As a funk-pop artist, Jonah has come a long way since his childhood dreams of becoming an artist. Singing has been part of his life essentially since birth. Jonah started singing at his parent’s church choir at the tender age of one. Then, at the onset of his skyrocketing career, Jonah’s life changed overnight when he and a couple long-time friends uploaded their own covers of huge pop hits like Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to Youtube. The unique covers spread like wildfire in the music community, garnered them millions of views and got them the attention of many acclaimed artists, namely 16x GRAMMY Award winning producer David Foster. David took them under his wing and signed the trio named Dirty Loops to their first record deal at Verve Records. And just like that, Jonah went from singing in his friend’s basement to becoming an international touring star.

Jonah has made a name for himself through his pop sensibilities, R&B tendencies and wide knowledge of music theory from his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, which set him apart in this new democratized era in which almost anyone can call themselves an artist.

Since Jonah’s early rise to fame, he’s since got a few headliner world tours under his belt and has acquired a significant fanbase of high-profile musicians, including Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, Brian McKnight, Rodney Jerkins, Dallas Austin and the incredible Stevie Wonder. Even though that’s enough for some, Jonah’s humble demeanor continues to push him forward. His cheery outlook on life gives you the sense he’s unfazed and ready to continue giving the gift of music.

Jonah’s debut single, “Coffee Break,” featuring Richard Bona, was self-produced and released in 2018—one version which also features LUCAS from the massively popular K-pop group NCT and released by SM Entertainment. Jonah will continue to share new music, and when asked about how his music differs from Dirty Loops, he says that the music will continue to have the flirtatious and cheeky sound that they were notorious for, but with more R&B and pop elements.

“I never in a million years thought I’d be here,” confesses Jonah. His piercing blue eyes and huge smile gives you the feeling that he’s wholeheartedly telling the truth. “Living in the present has kept my feet on the ground. I just want to create meaningful music… everything else that happens is extra.”

Terrel Hines – Who Do You Love?

On his new single “Who Do You Love?” Georgia-born, Los Angeles-based pop visionary Terrell Hines sings of an apocalyptic “war on earth” yet finds transcendence. “So much going on can’t help myself,” he wails in the chorus. “If we’re all going down then what do you desire? I’ll take you higher.” The song joyfully blurs sonic borders, opening with a glittery burst of electronics before giving way to psychedelic soul, tense funk, euphoric blues-rock, and gospel-pop anthemics. Listen HERE.

Saturated in vibrant colors, the animated lyric video that accompanies “Who Do You Love?” introduces a character who’s not afraid to go against the grain, pulling a heavy load backwards. A sign nods to Hines‘ hometown of Dublin, Georgia.

Hines, who has already amassed more than five million streams without releasing an album or touring the U.S., displays a polymathic musicality, honed in part during his studies on scholarship at Berklee College of Music. In 2019, he appeared on the title track to Beck’s Hyperspace album and saw a major boost after his music was used during an Apple Keynote.

In 2020, he released his first tape, Portal One: The Mixtape, a nine-track project that featured the raw energy of live instrumentation. Watching the events of the summer unfold prompted Hines to remix his 2019 track “Get Up,” adding a new verse from Vince Staples. NPR Music observed, “in the context of this summer’s movement, lyrics like. I’ve been waiting my whole life’ along with the driving percussion and the increasing desperation in Hines’s voice, [to] begin to take the shape of shouts for justice in a protest moving down a city block.” In October, he released the electrifying single, “We’re All Gonna Be Killed,” which reflected on “the tension of 2020 so far.”

Hines creates an entire ecosystem for his songs, where sonic structures and lyrics are just as likely to be inspired by the sociopolitical as the personal, by functional architecture as abstract art, by the austere science of survivalism as the limitless potential of technology. The best part is, you don’t have to know all that to feel the holistic magic of his work. We hear immediacy, exuberance, freedom, and ingenuity:  music as surprising as it is captivating, while he sees a burning question: “If shit popped off and society had to be rebuilt,” asks Hines, “how would I do it?”

Soul Icon Aretha Franklin is the Subject of Upcoming Film: Respect

Respect is a new biopic that covers an iconic female performer, Civil Rights Activist, and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.  Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.

It will star another icon in her own right, Jennifer Hudson, as Franklin. This is not her first time acting, and has also been in films like Spike Lee’s Chi-raq and in the first season of the Fox hit series: Empire. Given her background as a singer, her acting chops and what we’ve seen of the film so far, I’m certain Hudson will be excellent. The film also stars Forest Whitaker (Star Wars, Black Panther) and Tituss Burgess (The Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt.)

According to Billboard, the film has had a rough journey, being originally slated for release in the fall of 2020, and has been delayed several times due first to the pandemic and then because of a number of other factors. Thankfully, the film is finally set to release so we’ll get to see the film that’s been in the works for so long.

Director Liesl Tommy makes her feature film debut with Respect. She’s previously been known for directing plays. Tommy is the first Black woman ever nominated for a Tony award for Best Direction of a Play in 2016 for Eclipsed, and is an Associate Artist at the Berkeley Rep and an Artist Trustee with the Sundance Institute’s Board of Trustees.

With a story by Callie Khouri (Oscar® winner for Writing, Thelma & Louise) and Tracey Scott Wilson, and screenplay written by Tracey Scott Wilson. Wilson and Tommy have worked together creatively since the 2009 play The Good Negro written by Wilson, directed by Tommy at The Public Theatre. Wilson was a writer on FX’s hit series: The Americans which garnered her a Peabody Award as well as an Emmy® and WGA Award nominations.

The film is set to release in theatres on August 13, 2021. To watch the new trailer, click HERE.

JENNIFER HUDSON ANNOUNCES ORIGINAL SONG FROM ARETHA FRANKLIN BIOPIC RESPECT: “HERE I AM (SINGING MY WAY HOME)” CO-WRITTEN WITH CAROLE KING OUT FRIDAY

RESPECT ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK OUT AUGUST 13 VIA EPIC RECORDS

IMPACTING RADIO ON JUNE 21

Academy® Award-winning actress and GRAMMY® Award-winning recording artist Jennifer Hudson announces a new original song entitled “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home),” co-written with four time GRAMMY® Award winner, Kennedy Center Honoree, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductee Carole King (marking their first collaboration) and Jamie Hartman [Lewis Capaldi, Christina Aguilera] out Friday. GRAMMY® Award-winning Black Eyed Peas co-founder and mega-producer will.i.am produced the track. Hudson announced the collaboration on her social platforms this morning – HERE

Paving the way for Hudson’s blockbuster bigscreen turn as Aretha Franklin, it will appear on the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to RESPECT and serve as the film’s only original song. Hudson was handpicked by Franklin to portray her in the film from MGM, which opens in theatres nationwide on August 13. The soundtrack will be available on the same day.

Get “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” HERE Friday via Epic Records.

Hudson added, “Music is such a living and breathing character in this film, as it was in Ms. Franklin’s life. The process of creating this song was like constructing the greatest tribute I could possibly offer to her spirit. It was the final exhale of this extraordinary project and one that I let out with complete fulfillment. Being able to do so with Carole and Jamie was an incredible privilege. Carole is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and, whether we were trading stories, playing piano together over video conference, or working through lyrics, it was always a masterclass – both in life and music. Jamie and I have collaborated together in the past and it’s always so wonderful to create with him – he is continuously thinking outside of the box in a way that deepens the musical experience in indescribable ways. Our goal was to show that music was always the anchor for Ms. Franklin, in all that she did, and I hope this song illustrates the strength of her voice – both literally and figuratively – which always brought her home.”

About the collaboration, King commented, “Writing a song with Jamie Hartman and Jennifer Hudson felt both familiar and fresh at the same time. The process of songwriting continues to amaze me.  One minute there’s nothing, and then a song grows out of the seed of an idea.  The seed was dormant when Jennifer, Jamie, and I first met virtually. Jennifer and I had previously performed together, and I was excited about writing with her for no less than a film called Respect in which Jennifer plays Aretha Franklin! I’m so pleased to have not just one but two songs as part of the soundtrack of Respect-the 21st century song “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” and my 20th century co-write with Gerry Goffin, “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.”

Epic Records Chairwoman and CEO Sylvia Rhone said, “What Jennifer, Carole, and Jamie have created together is nothing short of historic. It celebrates the legacy of Aretha Franklin by channeling her spirit and style in an original, no less. As soon as I heard it, I was speechless. It has all the elements of a future American songbook staple.”

“Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” highlights Hudson’s earthquaking range with a seismic crescendo. Right out of the gate, she proclaims, “It’s time for me to sing” over glorious church organ before twinkling piano wraps around her vocals. It officially impacts Hot AC and Urban AC on Monday June 21.

One of the biggest, boldest, and brightest voices in contemporary music, Jennifer Hudson stands alone. Not only is she a two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and best-selling author, but she has received an Academy® Award, a Golden Globe®, and countless other honors as an actress. Her self-titled 2008 debut Jennifer Hudson earned a platinum certification, the 2011 follow-up I Remember Me went gold, and 2014’s JHUD drew a GRAMMY® nod. She has starred in films ranging from Dreamgirls and Sex and the City to Chi-Raq and Sing, in addition to taking over Broadway in The Color Purple, for which the soundtrack garnered Hudson another Grammy win. Along the way, she became a best-selling author and served as a coach on The Voice UK and U.S.  In 2019, she appeared as Grizabella in the big-screen adaptation of Cats, and she also contributed “I’ll Fight” to the critically acclaimed documentary RBG, garnering an Academy® Award nomination. In 2021, she stars as Aretha Franklin in director Liesl Tommy’s highly anticipated biopic Respect, of which she is also an executive producer. Franklin personally chose Hudson to star. She will be releasing new music soon.

Joy Denalane – I Gotta Know

Today, Motown Records signee, the R&B songstress Joy Denalane aka Germany’s queen of soul drops the video for I Gotta Know. Watch it HERE. This follows Joy’s recent releases Top Of My Love, Put In Work, and Believe (featuring BJ The Chicago Kid). The tracks are off her upcoming album LET YOURSELF BE LOVED out September 4th.

With I Gotta Know, Joy Denalane shares a roaring, at times angry song which shows that love in all its complexity is not only told in ballads or mid-tempo compositions. Backed by a fantastic band, grand strings and winds, Joy Denalane creates a sound that is almost bursting with energy, perfectly woven to provide the necessary space for the powerful bandwidth of her voice. I Gotta Know pushes for the truth behind the rumors, yes, jealousy also plays a role, but at the core there is the pure and simple desire to not be hurt and humiliated by further lies. A universal feeling in which Joy Denalane instills with her voice self-confidence and strength and prefers to demand the end of the relationship rather than to continue to torment herself. I Gotta Know is a power move full of femininity and emotion.

Joy has collaborated with the likes of Raekwon, Lupe Fiasco, Bilal, Common, Hugh Masakela and more. Joy’s talent, emotional honesty, the culturally complex story of her life and natural beauty make her an incredibly attractive and versatile artist. Joy is the essence of the modern, global, black woman. She is the daughter of a South African father and a German mother and was born in the divided city of Berlin. Her access to African music and rhythms as well as her love of American soul music made her an enthusiastic follower and participant of the up-and-coming Hip-Hop movement, which found a home in the culturally diverse city of Berlin at an early age. At the same time, she was inspired by singers like Aretha Franklin, Letta M’Bulu and Mary J Blige, who gave her the energy and courage to combine all these musical backgrounds and create her own unique style. She is strong, beautiful, sensitive, a working mother and an ambitious artist

Ray LaMontagne – MONOVISION

Grammy Award winning artist Ray LaMontagne releases his eighth studio album MONOVISION today via RCA Records. The 10-track album sees Ray not only writing and producing the album once again but also includes added duties of engineering as well as performing all the instruments for the tracks. Already receiving praise from the critics, The Associated Press called the album, “stunningly refreshing,” while No Depression said MONOVISION is “one that best represents his artistic core,” and American Songwriter states, “Both LaMontagne’s craftsmanship in the composition of these songs and his easygoing, unaccompanied playing will come as comfort food to established followers who should welcome this most organic return to his roots.”  Internationally, MOJO’s 4 star review claimed MONOVISION is “further proof LaMontagne is among the finest singers of his generation” while Uncut Magazine gave the album 7 out of 10 rating.

Strong Enough ” is currently soaring up the AAA chart having already closed the panel. The track is the #1 greatest gainer at the format and just about to reach the Top 10. Ray LaMontagne has released 8 studio albums, 6 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard’s Digital Albums chart.  Additionally, his 2010 album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow.” Each release from his catalogue over the last 16 years carries its own character and feel. Having worked with producers Ethan Johns, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Ray’s vast sonic catalogue has been called everything from “a perfect throwback to the lost art of the album-length format,” from Entertainment Weekly to “epic and magical,” from Rolling Stone and “gorgeous and ambitious,” from Esquire.  NPR’s All Things Considered said that Ray throughout the course of his career “has continued to push himself in different directions,” while People called Ray a “marvel of nature.”
