Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Titanium-Carbon Limited Editions inside 360 MAGAZINE

Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618

Titanium-Carbon Limited Editions

Revealed during Geneva Watch Week at Barton7, Bianchet unveils two new limited editions of the Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork, which unite noble materials with a sporty and technological soul, and reflect the Franco-Italian brand’s statement to define a new essence of style in contemporary watchmaking.

Timeless design principles

By using the iconic Golden Number 1.618 and the work of Italian mathematician Fibonacci as design basis, coupled with a minimalist essential approach to watchmaking construction, Bianchet creates a collection of modern and refined watches, in which beauty and harmony come to the fore.

Known as “The Divine Proportion,” the Golden Number 1.618, which underlies the beauty of the universe, is found in some of the most harmonious and everlasting creations in art, architecture, music – from Leonardo da Vinci, Le Corbusier, to Debussy – and in nature.

Fascinated by the capacity of the Golden Number, and its timeless design principle, to create beauty and harmony, Bianchet founders have chosen to immortalise its proportions in their horological compositions to build an everlasting legacy.

Italian by design, French in the details

Created by the Franco-Italian couple Rodolfo and Emmanuelle Festa Bianchet, the brand lays the foundation for its inspiration through its faith in the purity of lines, its passion for contemporary design and architecture, coupled with a pure, intuitive sensibility nourished by Italian roots, and an innate attention to details.

The flowing lines, the sense of colour, the engineering concept behind every Bianchet timepiece are a perfect illustration of the Italian design approach and eagerness to create an object of desire, that is beautiful from its conception to its aesthetic execution.

The tonneau shape of the case, the openwork design of its movement, the high-end finishing, illustrate the combination of Italian aesthetic sensibility and French sense of detail. Everything within the Tourbillon B1.618 Titanium-Carbon watch expresses refinement, pure lines and a natural sense of balance that makes it a watch of our time for our time.

Crafted with soul

Every Bianchet watch is designed, crafted, produced, and finished by hand entirely in Switzerland, including the strap and buckle. Each person involved in the creation of a Bianchet timepiece, from the founders, designers and craftsmen, to carefully selected partners, put their heart and soul into their work to produce the best of Haute Horlogerie in Switzerland.

The process of making a Bianchet watch is focused as much on quality and aesthetic, as on technical excellence, the main objective being to obtain a perfect balance between form and function. The art of Haute Horlogerie, mainly executed by hand, requires complete undivided attention; a suspended moment in time when the passion of the creator transfers to the object and conveys the highest level of quality.

Conceived for an active lifestyle, the slightly curved carbon & titanium case offers perfect comfort. The union of hand-finished Grade 5 Titanium on the bezel and back, and a light carbon fiber composite with an added titanium powder, which Moiré effect creates unique patterns on every timepiece, is underlined by soft vulcanized rubber seams which bring a sensuous feel. The perfect curves, the lightness and softness sensations, the high-end materials, create a unique horological experience.

Titanium Caliber B1.618

The movement of the Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork is the result of genuine aesthetic research. Conceived from the outset as a skeletonized movement, the Calibre B1.618 is all about a sensation of plumbing untold depths, a feeling accentuated by the curves, whose radii’s progression and interlacing are derived from the Fibonacci sequence. The symmetrical plays off the asymmetrical, in a balance that is natural to the eye, with a harmony that is intrinsic to the Golden Ratio.

Crafted from grade 5 titanium, that only master watchmakers are able to harness, the calibre B1.618 is able to withstand shocks of up to 6000G in all positions. The superposition of titanium arches and curves, in various shades of black, the floating skeletonized flanges which adorn the movement, play with light and transparency to create a sculptural architecture that is both strong and ethereal.

The tourbillon cage, the main plate and bridges, are all crafted from titanium and finished by hand, using mineral sands and natural fibres. Every wheel of the B1.618 gear-train is decorated by hand and coated with rhodium – today the most prestigious and expensive metal on earth.

Contemporary Haute Horlogerie

Thanks to peerless Haute Horlogerie techniques and the use of noble materials, featuring a sporty and technological soul, Bianchet timepiece collection reinterprets mechanical art in contemporary high-horology.

Uniting the sensory, cultural, mathematical, and mechanical, the new Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork Titanium-Carbon limited editions feature a hand-finished case in Grade 5 Titanium on the bezel and back, mixed with a light carbon fiber composite infused with a titanium powder, stylishly signed with two soft colorful rubber seams.

1.618 by Bianchet

Focused on re-engineering a timepiece by applying the Golden Ratio to contemporary watchmaking, Bianchet breaks free from the classical and traditional culture with which the iconic number 1.618 has generally been associated, and applies the Golden Ratio to a modern conception, using the materials, manufacturing techniques and performances of today, in the respect of centuries of high horology know-how.

Limited to 21 pieces each, the new Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork titanium-carbon blue and green editions stand as a modern and timeless testament to beauty in watchmaking, and bring a sporty-chic Haute Horlogerie timepiece to refined watch lovers in search of a unique horological experience.

94th Oscars

The 94th Academy Awards were held on Sunday, May 27, at the Dolby Theatre right in the heart of Hollywood. The Oscars ceremony made for a night of unforgettable moments, including the slap that broke the internet.

The night began with words from Serena and Venus Williams before Beyonce’s performance of “Be Alive” from Best Picture nominee “King Richard.” The film stars Will Smith while following the story of the tennis sister icons childhood and rise to widespread athletic acclaim.

To reference the story even further, Beyonce’s pre-recorded performance took place at the former Lueders Park tennis courts in Compton. Sporting lime-green tennis-inspired attire, Beyonce and her dancers captivated the audience and started the show off flawlessly.

This year’s Academy Awards saw the return of a host for the first time since the 2018 showing, and three at that. Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes shared banter on the stage and separately throughout, successfully beginning with a bit directed towards Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Further controversy surrounding the night stemmed from the pre-recorded award announcement of eight categories and the New York Times stated this included the short films, production design, score, editing, makeup and hairstyling and sound. Conducted to seemingly shorten the duration of the show, this didn’t help much, as the show ended up extending to a long three hours and 40 minutes of showtime. Not to mention the pre-announced awards were aired as if they were live.

Amidst the contentious night of awards, we saw light as Ariana Debose became the first Afro Latina and openly queer women of color to win an Academy Award. While starring as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” we also saw DeBose become the second Latina to win an Academy Award following Rita Moreno for the same role dating back to 1962.

DeBose commended the trailblazing of Moreno during her acceptance speech while saying, “Now you see why that Anita says ‘I want to be in America,’ because even in this weary world that we live in, dreams do come true, […] I’m so grateful your Anita paved the way for tons of Anitas like me and I love you so much.”

DeBose rejoiced this moment in history, stating, “To anybody who has ever questioned your identity — ever, ever, ever — or you find yourself living in the gray spaces, I promise you this: There is indeed a place for us.”

The most shocking night of the event that has had the entire world talking came when Will Smith punched Chris Rock on-stage after an insensitive comment about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.

While presenting the Best Documentary award, Rock joked about Pinkett Smith, stating, “Jada, I love you. ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” speaking about her shaved hair.

Back in 2018, Pinkett Smith revealed to the world that she had alopecia, which causes hair loss. It appeared Smith was laughing along at first, but then he got up and slapped Rock. After returning to his seat the audio cut out in the United States but was broadcasted internationally where audiences heard Smith then yell, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth!”

The conflict left the in-person audience stunned, and Rock reacted by saying, “Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me.”

Later on, Smith was awarded for his performance in “Little Richard” with the Best Actor award. He apologized for the altercation during his acceptance speech while referencing his role as the Williams sisters’ father in the film while stating, “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world. […] I’m being called on in my life to love people. And to protect people. And to be a river to my people.”

He continued by thanking his fellow nominee Denzel Washington who came to his side after the dispute occurred, recalling his words when stating, “He said [to me], ‘At your highest moment, that’s when the devil comes for you.’”

Smith continued to apologize and stated, “I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to my fellow nominees, […] This is a beautiful moment. I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all the people. […] I hope the Academy invites me back.”

The night commenced when “CODA” historically won Best Picture. The film celebrates both Deaf culture and actors while becoming the first movie from a streaming service to be awarded an Academy Award.

Apple TV+’s “CODA” triumphed over Netflix’s “The Power of the Dog” for the esteemed award, though we still saw Netflix’s Jane Campion take home the Best Director award for the film. “CODA,” too, saw their very own Troy Kostur take home Best Supporting Actor as Frank Rossi and director Sian Heder win Best Adapted Screenplay.

DJ Hardwell inside 360 MAGAZINE

HARDWELL – WORLD TOUR

Nearly ten years on from when he performed one of the most electrifying performances at perhaps one of the most influential electronic music events in history. Dance music pioneer and former 2 x World No.1 DJ Hardwell returned to the stage at Ultra Music Festival to make history with undoubtedly the most anticipated return show of 2022.

In Autumn 2018, after more than a decade of playing the biggest festivals on the planet, Hardwell announced he would be taking a sabbatical from touring. So his emphatic return on Sunday night, his first official show since his concert with the Metropole Orkest Symphony at the Ziggo Dome back in October 2018, was unsurprisingly a moment for the history books. Playing a surprise set on the main stage, closing out the festival’s weekend, the 150,000 capacity crowd excitedly greeted Hardwell’s return. Whilst online, his performance also broke Ultra’s numbers via the live stream, with fans tuning in from around the globe, all eager to watch Hardwell’s first official live set in some 3.5 years.

Revealing a new show and new sound, alongside announcing a 24-date world tour supporting his new artist album, Rebels Never Die, Hardwell used his headline slot at Ultra over the weekend to mark a new era in his career. This momentous occasion during Ultra not only served as Hardwell’s first show back but a chance for him to ignite the attention of fans worldwide. Always a leader, with a quest to evolve, not repeat. Hardwell’s new 14 track solo album, released on his label Revealed Recordings, represents a critical point in the musical shift for one of electronic music’s biggest known stars.

The brand new Rebels Never Die world tour is a large-scale production concept that will give fans a unique multi-dimensional experience to witness Hardwell perform live back on stage. Throughout 2022, the Rebels Never Die album tour will see Hardwell on the road with already 24 dates booked on the biggest stages across Europe, Asia, North and South America.

For millions of fans worldwide, Hardwell’s shock announcement from touring back in 2018 came as a huge surprise. After more than a decade of chasing his dream and at the peak of his career, Robbert van de Corput, better known as Hardwell, chose to take a step back, to move out of the spotlight. Stepping away from a journey that bore over 120 x singles, 80 x remixes, 1 x artist album, 11 x compilation albums, 2 x documentaries, 2 x arena world tours, countless international headline performances, and more. Leaving fans uncertain if they would ever get to see Hardwell on stage again.

On Sunday, during the closing night of Ultra Music Festival, in the beautiful city of Miami, Hardwell once again gave the fans what they wanted – putting an end to the rumours of his retirement. Quashing any belief that his passion for electronic music was no longer burning bright and firmly answering the question of how does one of dance music’s biggest titans reinvent a peerless career of such impressive magnitude.

Johnnie Walker for Angel City FC

By Yash Thadani, Krishan Narsinghani

Johnnie Walker, the notably acclaimed scotch-whiskey brand, has launched a long-term initiative, First Strides. To kick-start this enterprise, an exclusive event was held at Los Angeles’s very own Catch One with Johnnie Walker doing a collaboration with the Los Angeles professional women’s soccer team Angel City FC. The Mid-City nightclub was the perfect venue to celebrate the steps that are being taken for women’s progression, and what better way to portray women’s forwardness by having the Angel City FC soccer team in representation.

Immediately upon entering, the right side of the venue had a soccer goal being used as an aesthetic for pictures. Straight ahead of the cabaret, the drink menu presented different variations of Johnnie Walker cocktails. The crowd favorite was called Welcome to LA, a gingery-lemony drink that contained a heavy pour of Black Label. In the interim while waiting for the drinks to be dealt, a multitude of servers were walking around passing out the variety of hor d’oeuvres. There were small plates with dishes like tuna tartar, mini cheeseburgers and more. As the attendees wrapped up their post-dinner snack, guests were directed to go towards the rear of the building.

The back of Catch One is where the majority of the invitees continued to mingle and enjoy the party. The night really began when the live show commenced. The Los Angeles Marching Band, and upcoming artist Tia P performed the newly released ACFC anthem Running with the Angels. This track was created by five-time Grammy Award-winning artist Brittany Howard and LA-based artist Tia P. The anthem is an ode to the team’s trailblazing spirit, as the world’s first majority women-founded, owned and operated pro-soccer team. The song will serve as a celebratory anthem for the team and their fans. Key members of the Angel City FC community including Christen Press and Julie Ertz. VIPs attended, including the likes of Lilly Singh, Kenya Barris and more. Safe to say, the live performance of the Angel City FC’s newly commended track was the highlight of the evening. It was the perfect depiction of the proclivity behind pushing women forward.

Along with the hype anthem release, Johnnie Walker will enable more people to take bold steps towards progress through a series of First Strides grants. Anyone 21+ can apply for a First Stride grant but the brand will continue to dedicate funding to communities where inequality exists. Through a partnership with go-to crowdfunding marketplace IFundWomen, Johnnie Walker will continue to support women entrepreneurs and fuel women-owned businesses. The brand is also introducing a grants and mentorship program with first-of-its-kind streaming service Blacktag, who is changing the model for pay equity among black creators.

Catch One, formerly known as Jewel’s Catch One, was a landmark for the city of Los Angeles. This iconic night club was originally known as the longest standing gay dance-bar, and Initially opened in 1973. Forty years later a new owner did a complete revamp of the location. This historic site still continues to serve its purpose for having a good time.

Rolls-Royce Dubai edition inside 360 MAGAZINE

ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS DUBAI

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai is accustomed to innovative artforms, and the new Carbon Veil is an exquisite addition to the Phantom Gallery. The construction technique, which involves applying 150 carbon fiber sheets, is genuinely ground-breaking; the result is ultra-stylish, contemporary and beautiful, and perfectly attuned to the aesthetic sensibilities of the Emirate of Dubai.”

Mamdouh Khairallah, General Manager, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai, AGMC

“It required a huge amount of experimentation to produce the Carbon Veil Gallery. The main challenge in creating the shape was ensuring that the weave of the carbon fibre remained horizontal and parallel throughout. It had to be perfect – because this is a Rolls‑Royce.”

Alastair Gibson, carbon fiber artist, and sculptor

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai, AGMC, is delighted to present a truly remarkable example of Bespoke artwork created for the marque’s pinnacle product, Phantom. The Carbon Veil has been specially developed for the Gallery area in the fascia, a feature unique to Phantom, where owners can choose to display an original work of art or design.

The Carbon Veil, which took two years to create, is made from carbon fibre. For most automotive applications, just three or four layers are used. For Rolls-Royce Phantom, no fewer than 150 sheets were permeated with resin and compressed to form a single, solid billet.

The work was commissioned and designed by the Rolls‑Royce Bespoke Collective based at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England, and realized by artist and sculptor Alastair Gibson, who combines knowledge and expertise gained in Formula 1 to create his carbon-fiber masterpieces.

The Carbon Veil introduces a highly contemporary note to Phantom’s interior, with sharp, angular surfaces and the distinctive woven surface synonymous with innovation, technology and performance. Depending on the client’s preference, the carbon fibre is finished in either clear or matte lacquer which brings out the weave pattern and protects it from harmful ultra-violet rays. The whole piece is sealed under a single pane of glass.

Each Phantom Gallery is individually assembled in the Clean Room at Goodwood. Completed in 2020, this medical-grade facility provides a 100% sterile environment where Bespoke items and other delicate components can be produced entirely free of dust and particles.

The gunmetal exterior is bolstered with an iced finish with gunmetal contrast bonnet, while the coachline and waftline are accented in a vivid mandarin orange. At the helm of the bonnet proudly stands the Spirit of Ecstasy crafted from carbon fibre.

Within the interior, the anthracite brightwork provides moments of contrast, along with the colour-keyed rotary controls and leather detailing. The dark tones and light leather flourishes beautifully accent the Veil Gallery upon the Phanton’s fascia. The flawless Black Pack elements on the exterior include an alluring black trim on the windows, the grille and the exhausts.

The Gallery is a space protected behind glass. This space affords the opportunity to introduce sharp and aggressive forms, which are unprecedented for a vehicle interior. The design of the faceted milled carbon fibre sculpture was originally inspired by the angular, aggressive, stealthy shapes of the 118 WallyPower.

The very attitude and nature of the Gallery has been extended to the other Bespoke details on both the exterior and interior of the Phantom it resides within. With a highly contemporaneous edge, the vehicle exemplifies the spectrum of Bespoke potential, with Phantom as a canvas quite like no other.

Alastair Gibson’s artwork is highly prized by collectors in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and in his native South Africa, and can be viewed in galleries around the world.

Sunburst Nurseries × California Lightworks

Sunburst Nurseries is known for cultivating dragon fruit, a mildly sweet flavored fruit often described as a blend of pear and kiwi. The fruit grows on a climbing cactus called hylocereus, which is typically found in tropical regions around the world. To grow dragon fruit in California, it is imperative that growers have the environment and lighting carefully designed and operated.

Sunburst Nurseries recently installed the California Lightworks’ MegaDrive®  LED Grow light system in their Central Valley facility that distributes dragon fruit throughout California, Arizona and Nevada. The MegaDrive is a cost-effective LED lighting system for indoor grow operations that is simple to install yet highly effective in increasing both crop quality and yield.

“In summer, we are mostly growing outdoors, but for new plants and rooting the plants, we need to grow these plants indoors. That’s why we chose MegaDrive lighting—these tropical plants need meticulously crafted climate controls,” said Jose Acosta, with Sunburst Nurseries. “With MegaDrive we are able to grow plants faster—they take off. We are very impressed with these lights.”

The name “dragon fruit” has been used since around 1963, apparently resulting from the leather-like skin and prominent scaly spikes on the fruit’s exterior.

“The MegaDrive installations are great because you can have the system that powers and controls the lights, installed outside of the grow room. This makes it so that the lighting system is resistant to the high humidity levels needed for the dragon fruit plants,” added California Lightworks CEO George Mekhtarian. “The system is able to be carefully turned for spectrum and intensity. The lighting can simulate sunrise and sunset, and the lighting intensity can be dialed up and down as necessary. With all the power electronics removed from the fixtures, the lights become very robust and ideal for high humidity environments.”

Controlling the MegaDrive is also incredibly easy: an entire crop’s life-cycle can be programmed from a single touch screen, and can be saved & repeated for all future crops. Every aspect of the yield can be adjusted from this one point, which can control an unlimited number of lights.

“Aside from a streamlined grow process, the MegaDrive also makes indoor set-up a breeze, with the ability to chain up to 27 fixtures from a single driver,” added Mekhtarian. “Our technology leads to a great reduction in heat, and with less drivers to power, it all adds up to significant savings and energy efficiency.”

“You will notice that if you walk around, the plants under the MegaDrive lighting are growing thicker and faster,” added Acosta. “The automation and reliability offered by California Lightworks is a game-changer for us.”

About California Lightworks

Since 2008, California Lightworks has been a pioneer in advanced technology LED lighting for horticulture. All products are designed, manufactured and supported in their Southern California factory and they stand behind every product they’ve ever made. From small-scale home grow to large-scale indoor and greenhouse applications, they offer optimal lighting solutions. California Lightworks has reduced carbon emissions by 465,813 metric tons.
