Dance Your Style US Champion

Premier global street dance competition Red Bull Dance Your Style completed its U.S. run on Sunday, May 22nd crowning David “The Crown” Stalter as the U.S. champion. The Crown will go on to represent the USA at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals, taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

David “The Crown” Stalter is a Liberian-Korean, Minneapolis born and raised, self-taught dancer. Although a dancer his whole life, David began to take his craft seriously in 2012, teaching himself the styles of hip-hop, animation, breaking, popping, locking, house, and more. His dedication and skill has landed him work with artists such as G-Eazy, Lil Jon, Skee-Lo and more. In addition to dance, David is also an actor, model, poet, DJ and ukulele player.

The Red Bull Dance Your Style National Final USA took place at Generations Hall, a repurposed 1820s sugar refinery located in the historic French Quarter, reclaiming this space as their own. Ultimately, the crowd determined who represents the U.S. in the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final. Pell hosted the competition as DJ mikeyoffline spontaneously chose tracks engaging the dancers and the audience with a mix of unforgettable chart-toppers and timeless jams.

In addition to the competition, the weekend offered curated parties, performances, workshops and showcases helmed by celebrated dancers, musicians and DJ’s that highlighted the storied history and eclectic vibe of New Orleans. Jookin’ legend Ladia Yates taught the essentials of freestyle while Bounce choreographers and dancers Skip & Flash explained how to win the crowd. South Korean popping phenom Dassy delved into all-style battle strategy.

The homegrown sub-genre was popularized by artists like DJ Jubilee, Juvenile and Big Freedia. Characterized by midtempo reworkings of familiar samples, booming brass-band percussion and call-and-response routines, bounce music made the party shake. Between the events, barbecues, crawfish boils, and second line performances, the weekend was bursting with Southern flavor and rhythm from beginning to end.

International Dance Day celebrates dance as an inspirational artform, and one of the most powerful and universal forms of expression. Red Bull Dance Your Style honors the diverse dance community by unifying artists and dance scenes from all corners of the globe on one stage. In further celebration of the holiday, Red Bull will feature live classes from its global roster of dancers on the RedBullDance Instagram throughout the day on Friday, April 29 including appearances from Dassy and her crew Femme Fatale and LA-based Storm DeBarge.

Bilbao Unveils Puppy

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao unveils Puppy’s new appearance after a special change of flowers for its 25th Anniversary

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has unveiled Puppy’s new image after completing the change in flowers this springtime, a process that is sponsored by Seguros Bilbao, a company that is part of the Catalana Occidente Group. The usual process of replacing the 38,000 plants that cover this floral sculpture, which takes place twice a year, has a different outcome this year thanks to the new design made by the artist Jeff Koons in conjunction with the Museum’s curators to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. This is the first time the sculpture has worn this design.

Instead of the flowers being arranged to create spots of color, this season the huge West Highland White Terrier puppy will be predominantly white, while some colored flowers will highlight its outline and texture. Given that the plants take a few weeks to blossom, Puppy’s new image will be in full bloom later in the season. Once it is, the new monochromatic design will make Puppy resemble the breed it represents even more, which served as the inspiration behind the initial concept of this important installation.

In Jeff Koons’s words, “In honor of the Guggenheim Bilbao’s 25th Anniversary, I worked closely with the talented team at the museum to unveil a new planting of flowers for Puppy in celebration of this incredible milestone. My original concept for Puppy was based on a white terrier, so our spring planting is a harmonious composition of mainly white flowers in the spirit of the original model. There are some yellow, orange, red, and blue flowers that add definition to the swirls and folds of the fur and form of Puppy but primarily the flowers are white. This monochrome arrangement conveys peace, renewal, and love. It continues to communicate acceptance and the live flowering plants are symbolic of life’s energy. I always wanted the work to be a place for the community to gather and experience transcendence. Since it was installed, Puppy has embraced millions of visitors at the entrance of the iconic Guggenheim Bilbao, so it is a sincere honor to have Puppy become a part of the anniversary celebration and greet visitors in this fresh new way.”

Regarding the flower species, this time white petunias, begonias, dimorphothecas, alyssum and impatiens predominate.

Giving Puppy new flowers is a complex, intense process that requires the prior planting of thousands of flowers specifically for this work, along with a team of 20 gardening experts who work against the clock under the oversight of the experts from the Museum’s Conservation Department.

Lute's deluxe "Gold Mouf" album cover art via Umusic for use by 360 Magazine

Lute – Gold Mouf Deluxe

After crafting an entrancing debut, headlined by his gripping issues with anxiety and self-doubt, North Carolina MC Lute quenched fans’ thirst for more music with his deluxe release of Gold Mouf, including “Luther’s Freestyle,” “Run It Back,” and “Like Wine.” The latter receives the visual treatment from 12VY as GRAMMY-Award winner DJ Drama bolsters Lute’s lyrical exercise with his braggadocios adlibs. Standing in front of a fleet of cars, including a cherry red BMW, Lute’s confidence reigns supreme as he barks at his detractors with a series of jabs: “Shit, so fuck who ain’t believin’ me/ Can never say I’m wack, ’cause you rap niggas never seein’ me.” “Like Wine” comes on the heels of Lute’s recently released videos “Eye to Eye” and “Changes.” Check out Lute’s latest offering HERE

The GRAMMY-nominated rapper’s newest project is just one of many exciting developments in recent weeks. Lute performed at the long-awaited return of the annual Dreamville Festival last month, with his set praised in a shoutout from Complex. He also joined his labelmates for two cuts on the D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape compilation, which debuted in the top 5 of Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts.

With Gold Mouf Chronicles, Lute gets vulnerable about his battle with anxiety, and the toll it had on his family.  He also shares his bout with open-heart surgery that left his future up to fate. While the procedure was successful, Lute’s experiences have a lasting mental and physical impact. But rather than succumb to his fears, Lute valiantly wears his vulnerabilities on his sleeves, advancing his skills as an MC and deepening his connection with his fans

Kardashian & Barker’s Wedding

They cross the pond for the great celebration!

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker say “I do” for the third time in an idyllic Italian wedding. The couple has walked down the aisle (once again) in front of family and friends, who had traveled from the United States to Europe.

Just days after marrying Barker in a Santa Barbara courthouse, Kourtney said “I do” to the drummer one more time at a lavish ceremony in Italy over the weekend, this time in more traditional bridal attire. After two consecutive days of celebrations since the mediatic family took over the coastal town of Portofino (Italy), an idyllic and dreamlike link has been experienced between the two protagonists.

True to her groundbreaking style, Kourtney wore a tight, strappy short dress from Dolce & Gabbana that she accompanied with an enormous veil, which was embroidered with a huge representation of the Virgin Mary and the words “respect family loyalty” inspired by the tattoo of Travis’s head. The Italian luxury brand shared on Instagram that Kourtney was inspired “by archival Italian lingerie.” She has maintained the tradition of the white color in her bridal look after the doubts that arose this past weekend when seeing her bet on black in her outfits. On the other hand, the musician has not left the classic script and fixed for this type of occasion by wearing a dark tuxedo with a bow tie and a flower on the lapel.

The most emotional moment came when both knelt on sumptuous stools in front of the altar adorned with red roses and the religious figure of a virgin in the background. Scene that was shared by Alabama Luella Barker, one of Barker’s daughters. After the ceremony, the couple and all the guests went to the imposing Castello Brown, the 16th century fortress and house-museum that is located high above the seaport and where the impressive wedding reception took place.

Likewise, the children of the marriage were not lacking, each of their previous relationships. They are 9-year-old Penelope, 7-year-old Reign, and 12-year-old Mason on the bride’s side, as well as 16-year-old Alabama, and 18-year-old Landon on the groom’s side.

It all started last Friday night with a pre-wedding dinner at Ristorante Puny in Portofino and continued on Saturday with lunch, where the bride and groom and their guests arrived on board a boat. Sisters Kim, Kloé, Kendall and Kylie dazzled the Italian city of Portofino with their outfits. It was there that we could see the famous sisters with their most gothic and transparent looks throughout the weekend.

How could it be otherwise considering the place where they were, Dolce & Gabbana was behind all the outfits.

Mallrat – Tour

Multi-faceted artist and producer Mallrat announces her 2022 World Tour to take her brand new, critically acclaimed debut record, Butterfly Blue on the road, with headline shows and festivals across Europe, the UK, North America and Australia. The highly anticipated album was released on May 13th to praise from NPR, Teen Vogue, NME, PAPER, MTV and more, and marks a triumphant debut from Mallrat, solidifying her reputation as a master of clever, timeless pop.

Hot off the heels of an opening stint for Conan Gray in the UK and Europe, the new tour will see Mallrat playing new tracks from the album such as “To You,” which comes fresh off the back of the year’s most unexpected collaboration, “Surprise Me (feat. Azealia Banks),” and its much loved predecessors “Your Love,” “Teeth” and “Rockstar.”

Sweeping across vast, airy production, Butterfly Blue is often surprising, with samples and sounds tucked under the surface: chopped-up Gangsta Pat bars, a flipped recording of a children’s choir performing Lisztomania, and more. Distorted effects were recorded from discarded children’s toys – a sonic gift from producer Clams Casino. Layered like an instrument all their own, her signature breathy vocals are more assured than ever.

Butterfly Blue is available at all digital retailers HERE.

Grammy winner Jazmine Sullivan earns place on Time100 via 360 Magazine

Jazmine Sullivan – TIME100

TIME has named Jazmine Sullivan to the 2022 TIME100, its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The full list and related tributes will appear in the June 6 / June 13 double issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Friday, May 27, and now at time.com/time100

The list, now in its nineteenth year, recognizes the impact, innovation, and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals, and there’s no denying that Jazmine took the world by storm with her lauded Heaux Tales project. With vulnerable lyrics and candid spoken word tales, the project won a GRAMMY Award for Best R&B Album and the RIAA-certified Platinum single, “Pick Up Your Feelings,” won a GRAMMY for Best R&B Song. Earlier this year, Jazmine won three 2022 NAACP Image Awards – Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Album and Soul/R&B Song (“Pick Up Your Feelings”). Last year, Sullivan collected a BET Award for Album of the Year, plus two Soul Train Music Awards for Best Album/Mixtape and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.

Heaux Tales landed at #1 on several best of the year lists, including NPRLos Angeles TimesEntertainment WeeklyPitchforkVulture; and within the top 10 on The New York Times (#4), FADER (#5), Complex (#5), Rolling Stone (#7), Billboard (#9), Time (#10), and more. After the year-long impact of Heaux Tales, Sullivan released Heaux Tales, Mo’ Tales: The Deluxe on February 11, 2022, which contained four new tracks and five new tales, including one from “Insecure” actress, writer, producer Issa Rae.

In the coming months, fans can see Jazmine at the following summer festivals:

Orlando Funk Fest (6/3), The Roots Picnic (6/4-6/5), Governors Ball (6/10), Essence Fest (7/2), Lollapalooza (7/28), and Austin City Limits Music Festival (10/7-9 & 14-16).

From her first single “Need U Bad,” Jazmine Sullivan demonstrated an innate ability to write songs that perfectly capture the stories of so many Black women. Sullivan has a lyrical vulnerability that makes you think she has been reading your journal. She is so deserving of her most recent Grammy win, along with acclaim and other accolades that have been an honor to witness. But the most exciting part of her recent career journey has been that Sullivan has allowed us to share in her journey to self-love, removing herself from the shadows of fear as we can clearly see in her 2021 album Heaux Tales. In her speech during last year’s 2021 Soul Train Music Awards, she shared that she had made a vow to be present and not to hide away. It is this type of candor that makes Sullivan such an inspiration and icon to so many Black women including myself. It has truly been my pleasure to call her a friend over the years and I want to thank her for being an example of what happens when you believe in your gift and trust God’s calling for your life.

The State of Sports Betting in Texas – Will it be Legal?

Sports gambling is forbidden in Texas even though the state has a large sports fan population. Even though there are signs of a shift in Texas’ attitude toward gambling, people should not expect to see regulated sports wagering within the next year.

Sports betting regulation has been proposed in Texas, but there are a few key obstacles to overcome.

The State of Sports Betting in Texas: Is it Legal?

Regrettably, that isn’t the case. Sports betting might make Texas the 2nd largest online sports betting jurisdiction in the United States, as per numerous analyses.

If sports betting is ever legalized in Texas, Texans will put $11.5 billion in sports wagering annually, according to the estimates of the state. To put it another way, a 6.75 percent tax would bring in more than $950 million for the government.

Notwithstanding the state’s notoriety for its love of football, it has maintained one of the slowest states to authorize internet betting. As of right now, no one can predict when the sluggish pace would take up again. Texas residents could only make sports wagers via the services of overseas bookmakers. Using offshore bookmakers to make bets in Texas or any other jurisdiction where sports gambling is outlawed is legal since they are located in nations that allow it.

In comparison to other bookmakers, offshore betting companies have the benefit of offering highly competitive odds. In light of the foregoing, it is strongly suggested that you do your homework on the various online bookmakers. There are many credible and intelligent sources of information that cover all aspects and answers the question ‘can I bet on sports online in Texas’ in great detail.

Sports Betting on the Internet in Texas: A Brief Overview

There is no legitimate tradition of sports gambling in Texas, which is a shame. The county has long enforced anti-gambling laws, giving this one of the most restrictive places in the nation. Horse and dog racing are legal in Texas, but wagers must be made in person. It’s illegal to gamble on OTBs.

To better understand the current betting climate in Texas, consider the state’s betting history:

In 1934, Texas became the first state to establish Parvati horse racing gambling.

After four years of legal thoroughbred racing in Texas, racecourses have been shut down, and betting on horse races has been banned.

Until 1971, charity betting was exempt from anti-gambling laws. Two years later, this ruling was overturned, making it illegal once more.

Charitable gambling licenses were legalized in 1983. A revision of the state law was therefore required in 1981.

Horse racing Parvati betting increased in 1987 because of a positive state referendum outcome. When the earliest racecourses outside the United States began collecting bets via broadcast simulcasts in 1993, it marked a significant shift in the industry.

Casino cruises are authorized to operate as long as the boat is within the territorial waters of the United States. The enterprise had been going for twenty years until it was closed down.

As a result of a state lottery decision in 1993, both drawing and scratch-off operations will be allowed.

Tribal group compacts come into focus when bingo halls and casinos on tribal lands are closed down and rebuilt several times. A little distance from the Mexican frontier, south of San Antonio, the Kickapoo Indians hold the sole surviving tribal casino.

Some proposals to boost gambling in the state in 2015 were never implemented. As part of the idea, video poker machines would be offered at racetracks and eight government casinos.

Is Fantasy Sports Legal in the Lone Star State?

Whether or not these types of wagers are permitted by law is a subject of debate.

DFS is not penalized in Texas, despite previous failed attempts to legalize the activity altogether.

Texas is willing to let daily fantasy sports enthusiasts from Texas engage on 2 sites while it considers its future moves on sports gambling.

Who Knows What the Future Will Bring

Although there is still a long way to go, the passage of new legislation to enable sports gambling provides us with optimism for the future.

As per the American Sports Wagering Association, regulated sports gambling may generate over $3.7 billion in additional revenue and over 9,500 new jobs in the United States. Since Texans already bet on sports illegally and in other places, a new law is likely to be approved. The American Pastors Union of Texas has more than 3.5 million members in Texas. As well as opposing the legalization of sports betting, they also condemn the National Lottery.

The spokesperson for the Union said that the planned tax on sports betting will impact the state’s poorest inhabitants disproportionately, similar to the lottery.

It’s Regressive to the point of making a tax system blush. Is it a great idea to spend the money we donate to help others pay for our own government? However, Kohler was skeptical about the claims.
