Danilo Nedić wall art made of skateboard decks via 360 MAGAZINE

Danilo Nedić – ArtDecko

Former skater and founder of Dutch design studio Focused Skateboard Woodworks, Danilo Nedić, turns old skateboards into colorful, geometric works of art.

The inspiration for his work are the classic line patterns of the Art Deco style movement from the 1920s and 1930s. “Looking for a way to translate the colourful veneer of old skateboards into these line patterns, I discovered a geometrical world behind these patterns with infinite possibilities,” Nedić says.

The result of his quest: colorful wall art with unique geometric patterns that play with the viewer’s senses. The colored veneer layers of the skateboards, give depth to each patterns, which seem to change shape with each new look. Nedić: “In this way I try to capture the playful, wayward and creative character of skateboarding with every ArtDecko wall art piece.”

Sustainable Art

Every year, hundreds of thrashed skateboard decks are left behind at skateboard shops across the world. The decks are no longer suitable for skateboarding, but Nedic gives the wood a second life. The old decks are collected at local Dutch skate shops and processed into sleek furniture, home deco and works of art.

From skateboard to artwork

The old skateboard decks get stripped of their griptape, sanded clean and sawn into strips. The strips are glued into rainbow blocks in stacks of seven skateboards under high pressure. These blocks are then sawn into veneer slices. The rainbow line pattern is created by the colorful veneer layers of the used skateboards.

Colorful geometric patterns

The veneer slices are sawn into different shapes with extreme precision and puzzled together into colorful, geometric line patterns, which give depth to each artwork. Each of the unique ArtDecko art pieces seems to change shape right before the eyes of the viewer.

adidas x Gucci via 360 MAGAZINE

ADIDAS × GUCCI

The highly anticipated collection envisioned by Creative Director Alessandro Michele featured in a new campaign

For the launch, Alessandro Michele has envisioned a campaign that takes inspiration directly from an archival 1979 adidas catalogue. To animate the concept, a gridded template showcases a variety of moving imagery captured by Carlijn Jacobs. Against brightly colored backdrops, models stretch, run, or dance in place to a soundtrack of pensive phrases such as, “When your thoughts become reality, you understand what magic is.”

Originally debuting on the Exquisite Gucci runway, a mirror-filled space
where historic emblems multiplied and metamorphized across sartorial streetwear, the first adidas x Gucci collection expands on the creative concept founded on an affinity for three stripes. Revealed in a lookbook released last month, the cross-category selection portrays the kaleidoscopic aesthetic of Alessandro Michele by mixing the codes of the House with those of the historic sportswear brand, and consequentially those of high fashion and streetwear.

The assemblage plays out across women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, as well as on bags, shoes, accessories, jewelry, and lifestyle pieces. Throughout the selection, the GG monogram and Interlocking G mix with the adidas Trefoil in colorful prints, as well as on jacquard fabrics; while the red and green Web of Gucci complements the three stripes of adidas. Pushing the collection further into hybridized territory, ready-to-wear pieces echo the sporting attire of decades past while portraying an undeniable contemporary character. Additionally, conventionally formal pieces like leather heels, suede loafers, and silk scarves are marked with casual codes. Beyond the standard selection, the expansive offering also includes some lifestyle items including a golf bag in two different variations, a nod to the House’s heritage in leisure products.

THE POP

Gucci announces the arrival of a brand new series of Gucci Pop-Ups and Pop-Ins, the ephemeral stores providing a captivating shopping experience, dedicated to the adidas x Gucci collection starting from June 7.

Showcasing the products in an immersive, dedicated environment which reflects Gucci’s unconventional approach to luxury fashion, the initiative is aimed at connecting and engaging with clients over the world and their surrounding communities. In addition to the adidas x Gucci pop-ups, Gucci will also open dedicated pop-in locations within existing stores including: Los Angeles Melrose, New York Wooster Street and Fifth Avenue, Gucci East Hampton, Miami’s Aventura Mall, Chicago Michigan Ave, Houston Galleria, Atlanta Lenox, and Holt Renfrew Toronto Yorkdale.

adidas x Gucci merges the emblems of the House with those of the iconic sportswear brand. Anticipated by the first adidas x Gucci lookbook, the collection expands on the sartorial streetwear creations that debuted on the runway with a spectrum of sport-inspired pieces, distinguished by the same retro aesthetics of the show. With the heritage of both brands encoded in a trio of lines, a fixation on stripes plays out across ready-to-wear and accessories including Gucci’s own take on the famous adidas Gazelle sneaker.

*All paper and cardboard come from sustainably managed forest sources, and an uncoated paper has been used to ensure it is fully recyclable. In addition, shopping bag handles are made of 100% recycled polyester while pouches and suit carriers are made of a mix of regenerated cotton and recycled polyester. Reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, progress, sustainability goals, and collective action, the collection features multiple pieces crafted with future-conscious material fabrications including polyester, cotton, and viscose. Furthermore, each piece comes with special packaging that features the adidas x Gucci logo and that was strategically designed to reduce environmental impact.

**The collection will be distributed through designated stores, online on Gucci.com and through ephemeral Gucci Pop-Ups, where the spaces will be decorated with one of the geometric prints found in the offering. A dedicated product selection will also be available.

GRAPHIC ART TRENDS FOR 2021

Artwork is often the center of a home and brings life and character to a space. As time progresses, artwork trends change and as the new season approaches new art trends are arising.

With the start of a new year, Desino is excited to present the graphic art trending this spring! Abstract art is at the forefront for the coming season, with organic shapes, arches and geometric lines adding an artsy element to our walls. Check out the latest graphic prints created by our very own Design Studio.

ARCHED DESIGNS

The rounded arch can be spotted through architectural history, and this year the classic curved shape is leading the way in the interior world. Arched furniture, doorways and home accessories are being spotted everywhere! This spring we’ll be decorating our walls with arched designs that bring a classic and stylish feel to our homes. Many people have used the arched design as a makeshift headboard, a DIY that blends in with the trends.

ORGANIC SHAPES

For abstract art lovers, the organic shapes coming this spring are the perfect addition to your walls! Featuring warm, earthy tones, this graphic art featuring soft shapes and curves will bring a fresh feel to your gallery wall. These pair perfectly with less abstract pieces of art and tie together any gallery wall.

FIGURATIVE FUTURE

In contrast to the abstract art trending right now, figurative art is coming on strong this season. With a more simplistic approach to this art style, we’re loving these simple portrait drawings honoring our human shapes. These pieces of art encapsulate the beauty of human features.

GEOMETRIC STRIPES

Monochrome art complements all kinds of interior styles and this season we’re embracing these geometric patterns in black and white. A great choice if you want a modern accent piece for your wall, these graphic prints will look great in minimalist and colorful homes alike. Pairing these with silhouettes, as seen in the gallery wall below, instantly creates a beautiful contemporary wall.

Rilke Guillén

Rilke Guillén

Artist Plásticomexicanocatalán, spiritually and vitally grown and split between two ways of being, of thinking and feeling. He has exhibited his work in Spain and Mexico for many decades.

Artist statement

I believe to express my vision of this splendor-decadent world that witnesses our existence, to try to move in the emotion of the viewer, to make him see inside yes; by the right and the reverse of the same glove of what is and exists and of what is not and also exists. Like the dream inside the eye and the outside eye. Like the truth and vertigo of the depth of the fractal-cosmic spiral. As a picture, as truth, as the line that springs from my pen. Creating images and sculptures gives meaning to my existence and being me from the inside-out, so I can communicate with others. I am an insatiable explorer of the plastic techniques that I am encountering in my path, such as painting, watercolor, engraving, sculpture, design, etc. My search in these different lands has the same objective: to find the voice that is capable of taking out this animal-human being, who is thronging in my heart. The fine perfume of the flower of my spirit.

Biography

I remember as a child drawing horses and birds obsessively. The representation of images has always seemed to me as a matter that holds great power, as if in representing an object or being, somehow one was made with his skill, with his unique quality. I have always been surrounded by art. My father, in his poetic dimension, attracted artists from all disciplines to the house to share his presence and talent, some of them had a great impact on me. There was a very special one that made me the honor of taking me as a disciple for a short but unforgettable time: The great teacher Rodolfo Zanabria (who in peace rides in infinity with his maidens with long hair and beautiful faces). From him, I learned that the road is long and if you know how to walk you will reach the Magical Domain. Destiny had the willingness to be a Mexican-Catalan artist, spiritually and vitally grown and split between two ways of being, thinking and feeling. This has allowed me to exhibit and share my work on both sides of the Atlantic since my debut on the plastic scene, until today.

Supporting × Celebrating × Jade Phoenix

Introducing … Jade Phoenix

One of the events I am most proud of occurring at Nous Tous happened just over a week ago. Femme Salon reading series launched on August 26th to a crowd that completely packed the space and it was an amazing event. It was a celebration and safe space for femme voices that are all too often silenced and spoken for. I am super proud of the success of the event and really grateful that Nous Tous has become the kind of space that can harbor this kind of event.

Unfortunately, the producer of the event is facing some financial hardship and instead of simply donating myself (which I did) I thought this might be a great opportunity for a few members of our community to help also. Jade is a working artist transwoman of color and any creative can attest to the fact that gigs are not always stead, so funds do not always appear with good timing.

She is is about $200 bucks short of rent, and that means that 10 people donating $20 dollars should help plenty. I know this is the type of audience that appreciates art and the emotional labor that comes with it. On this Labor Day I would love to encourage you to support, Jade, her daughter, and her work. If you can’t help out now, please follow her on social media and keep a look out for ways to support in the future. Payment details below. Thank you for showing up.
