Dramatic Improvement in Neutral Machine Translation

There has been a dramatic drop in the cost of translation services for major corporations in the past year and the savings amounts to at least 30%, according to One Hour Translation (OHT). The company, the world’s largest online translation agency, attributes the drop to the improved capabilities of NMT (Neural Machine Translation) technology.

The downward trend in translation costs is expected to continue as NMT engines are being trained to identify thousands of new words and phrases using the latest machine learning technology. That is good news for global e-commerce companies like Booking.com, Hotels.com, Agoda, Trivago, Amazon, Alibaba and others who depend almost daily on quality translation of large volumes of content for their millions of customers worldwide.

“Around third of corporate content that we assess can already be translated using only NMT with no need for human input in the process,” said Ofer Shoshan, CEO and co-founder of OHT. He adds that the percentage is increasing all the time as the capabilities of the various translation engines continue to improve. The remainder is translated using hybrid translation that combines NMT and human post-editing, a process pioneered by OHT and utilizes human translators.

OHT has developed a content assessment process for its corporate customers that is conducted by five or six experts who review the content. They quantify the content into three distinct categories that are defined and based on the amount of human input that will be necessary. The range is from no need for human input with the translation solely based on NMT engines, hybrid translation which combines NMT and human post-editing and a final category where human translation is required. As part of the process, OHT also recommends to its corporate customers the NMT engine that is best suited for a specific translation.

“The translation services industry is being revolutionized with the cost of translation declining at a time when demand for rapid quality translations is skyrocketing,” noted Shoshan. The technological advances in the field, he believes, will lead to a further savings as the percentage of content translated by NMT or by hybrid translation approaches 50% or more. That process is enhanced as the NMT engines are trained and constantly updated to identify more and more words and phrases. In the coming years the trend is expected to completely change the global translation service market and sharply reduce the number of human translators.

Chris Madrigal, Madrigal Family Winery’s Founder & President states, “We love supporting our local artists and photographers, who are committed to a skill and to creating their own personal vision and appreciating life, very much like we are at the winery up in Calistoga. One of my favorite things to do on a cool winter evening is looking at art and listening to music while sipping a fantastic glass of wine.”

About Rose Hodges
Rose discovered photography while studying Graphic Design.  A well-known photographer came to the University to lecture sharing his still life and view camera work.  After many years of searching, Rose knew immediately this was her calling. Rose assisted other photographers for 5 years in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City.  She decided to open her studio in San Francisco where she currently works.

About Mary Serphos
Mary started taking photos as a child, inspired by her father’s devout love of photography. In 1998, on a trip to Thailand, she used her first digital SLR camera and was hooked. Making the move to digital from film proved to be a long slow process but now it’s pure passion where Mary fuses photo imagery design with digital art. Please check out Mary’s Instagram gallery for a comprehensive look at over 7,000 of her artful images.

Mary has been exhibiting her work in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998. She currently has an exhibit at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA and teaches iPhonography classes in Marin (see classes for more info) Mary grew up in New York and moved to San Francisco from NY in 1996 where she lived for 11 years then to Nosara Costa Rica for two years and has made her home in Fairfax, Marin, CA for the past 7 years.

About Jeff Greendorfer
In the earliest days of his childhood, Jeff has marveled at and been fascinated by cars, their designs, their curves and more. He saw them as works of art, especially pre-1960s cars. Since his early 20’s, photography has enabled him to capture subjects that have drawn him in, be it an amazing array of brachen ferns, the tail fins of a 1959 Cadillac, or the fluid-looking chrome grill of an early Bugatti.

Noah Kahan New Single

NOAH KAHAN UNVEILS VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “MESS”

TOURING WITH JAMES BAY IN NORTH AMERICA THROUGH MARCH AND WITH DEAN LEWIS IN EUROPE AND THE U.K. IN APRIL

WATCH HERE

Today, Noah Kahan releases the video for his new single, “Mess.” Watch it HERE! Produced by Kahan’s frequent collaborator Joel Little (Lorde, Khalid), the song has already received praise from Billboard, NYLON, Idolator, EARMILK, Baeble, Ones To Watch and more.

Of the inspiration behind the video, Noah says, “I initially called ‘Mess’ ‘Feed the Dogs’ because my pups were a huge part of the inspiration for the tune. When I was in Vermont after high school, they were my only company during what was a lonesome time. With that in mind, I knew I had to make the music video be centered around dogs. Despite my dogs’ jealousy, we got 11 trained professional dogs (who were way more famous than me) for the shoot in LA and shot a video I really loved. Hope you guys like it too!”

“Mess” follows the global success of Kahan’s breakout singles, “Hurt Somebody” and “False Confidence.” With over 200 million global streams to date, “Hurt Somebody” is triple platinum in Australia and gold in Canada, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland and New Zealand; and it peaked at #1 on the Top 40 radio charts in Australia for three weeks, making it the third most played song on the Australian airwaves in all of 2018 where Noah has become one of the most buzzworthy new acts. “False Confidence” continues to grow with over 16 million streams to date and peaked in the top 5 at Triple A radio in the U.S.

Noah Kahan is currently on the road with James Bay this month on his North American tour. He will also be joining Dean Lewis on his headline tour in Europe and the U.K. in April. See the full list of upcoming dates below. Tickets are available here.

In two short years, music quite literally carried 22-year-old singer, songwriter and artist Noah Kahan around the world—a long way from his native Strafford, VT (pop. 1,045) and the 133-acre tree farm where he resides. On the trip, the alternative troubadour notched an international hit in the form of “Hurt Somebody” [feat. Julia Michaels], while his singles “Young Blood” and “False Confidence” also racked up millions of streams and he sold out headline tours in North America, Europe, and the UK and hit the road with artists like George Ezra and Leon Bridges. Not to mention, he has garnered critical acclaim from Billboard, Stereogum, Clash, Idolator, and more. In the midst of this whirlwind, he assembled his upcoming full-length debut album. The first single “Mess” illuminates his marked growth as a songwriter and storyteller by way of its biting lyrics and undeniable sing-a-long, underscoring a heartwarming and often hilarious portrait of hometown longing.
