Glass Animals share the official video for new single “Agnes”

Today, Glass Animals share the official video for new single “Agnes,” taken from their Mercury Prize shortlisted album How To Be A Human Being. Watch the video for “Agnes” HERE.

Deeply honest, beautiful and full of depth, “Agnes” is the most personal song lead singer Dave Bayley has ever written. Dave explains: “There are varying degrees of autobiography and my own life in each song I write…but for the most part, that stuff is buried and clouded in fiction or blended with other peoples’ lives that I’ve heard about in taxis or at parties or on the street. But there is one song that stands apart from the rest. it is the most truthful, honest, and personal story I have ever written. And that song is ‘Agnes.'”

The video, directed by Eoin Glaister, explores the weight of grief in an abstract way, by a Human Centrifuge, a machine used by pilots for g-force training. The subject’s body mass increases as it subjected to increasing amounts of gravitational force, and as the song progresses this is visibly showcased through Dave’s difficulty performing the song.

Eoin explains: “In searching for ways to explore the weight of grief I remembered my grandfather used to perform tests on a human centrifuge, Essentially it’s an extremely large bit of kit that spins around very quickly. As it does so it subjects its occupants to increased levels of g-force. The faster 4you go, the heavier you become. On the day Dave described this feeling as like having an elephant sat on his chest. It was emotional. Appropriately so.'”

Glass Animals continue to demonstrate why they are one of the true global breakthrough artists of 2016/17. How To Be A Human Being (Harvest Records) debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and topped the iTunes Alternative Albums chart in the U.S. and Australia. Named as one of the “10 Best Albums of 2016” by USA Today, it has racked up nearly 80 million Spotify streams in the U.S. The Associated Press hailed it as “a complex, exciting tapestry of a CD which switches musical styles and reveals new things each time it’s played.” They have now been shortlist for the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize, have over 3 million monthly Spotify listeners and have sold over 900,000 albums worldwide since their debut, obliterating all expectations created by first album Zaba’s word of mouth buzz.

The band have already played a huge selection of international festivals including Primavera, Coachella, Glastonbury (which featured a lot of fans dressing as pineapples), Latitude, and Bonnaroo, as well as headlining a sold out 10,000 capacity Red Rocks in Colorado (at which there was a huge electrical thunderstorm). For the rest of the year, Glass Animals will continue their anomalous rise. The band are still to play Lollapalooza and Reading and Leeds before returning to their U.S. headline tour. The run will kick off on September 16 at WaMu Theater in Seattle and include a show at Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium (September 21) and the band’s first concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City (October 5). Additional East Coast dates include shows at Agganis Arena in Boston (October 7) and two nights the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC (October 8 & 9). New York based artist Amber Mark will support Glass Animals on tour. Glass Animals will cap off the tour with a performance during Weekend Two of Austin City Limits Festival (October 13-15). THE DOWNS SISTERS

Reiya Downs

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Reiya’s interest in acting started in her early years, as she would perform skits and self-created plays for her family and guests. Reiya’s mother, actress Elle Downs, brought her young daughter with her to auditions and oftentimes casting would invite Reiya in, giving her a seat at the panel, where Reiya sat silent as a bee taking in the performances. At the age of 5, Reiya booked her first feature film, John Singleton’s ‘Four Brothers’ where she played the role of Taraji P. Henson’s daughter, alongside her sister Riele.

In the years to follow, Reiya continued to act for film and television, occasionally booking roles with her younger sister Riele, where they often played siblings in film.  Reiya’s resume continued to build as she worked with the likes of American History X director Tony Kaye, Mark Wahlberg, Terrence Howard and the great Stan Lee. Her credits include roles on VH1s ‘Nikita,’ ‘Regenesis,’ Disney’s ‘Made, The Movie’ and her most current role as strong-willed, no-nonsense Shay Powers on the long-running television series, ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ as well as now on the Netflix continued series, ‘Degrassi: Next Class.’

In addition to her film work, Reiya garnered television commercial experience, filming ads for several brands including Comcast, Walmart, Children’s Advil and Macy’s.

Reiya strongly values the importance of a stellar education, and continues to be an avid learner and straight-A student while nurturing her acting career.

Riele Downs

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Riele Downs stars in the Nickelodeon hit series ‘Henry Danger’ as Charlotte Bolton, Henry’s ambitious and highly perceptive best friend. Produced by Dan Schneider and now about to enter its fourth season, the show centers around teenager Henry Hart who finds himself the side kick to a superhero, a secret he has to keep from his friends and family. The show has even branched off into an animated series entitled ‘The Adventures of Kid Danger and Captain Man.’  The show is currently airing new episodes until the end of the year.
Riele can be seen next starring in Tiny Christmas alongside Lizzy Green (Nicky Ricky Dicky & Dawn). Nickelodeon’s new movie puts a tiny spin on the year’s biggest holiday as two cousins who get accidentally shrunken must comically work together and overcome massive obstacles to set themselves and their Christmas right.

Riele was introduced to the industry at the tender age of 4 years old, starting her acting career as Taraji P. Henson’s daughter in John Singleton’s ’Four Brothers.’ She is no stranger to children’s programming as well, guest starring as Kat in ‘Ruby Skye: P.I.,’ Karinna in Disney’s ‘Made, the Movie’ and in her role as Turtle and Rabbit in the award-winning cartoon ‘Peep and the Big Wide World.’

Throughout the years, Riele continued to grace the screen in films such as ‘The Best Man Holiday’ by director Malcolm D. Lee and ‘The Gabby Douglas Story’ as well as roles on TV series such as  ‘Rookie Blue’ and ‘Regenesis.’

In her free time, Riele enjoys basketball, gymnastics, rollerblading and sprint running.

Athletes Unite: Opioids, Marijuana, Alternative Health Solutions

Founded by a group of retired professional athletes from a variety of sports leagues including the NFL, UFC, NBA and NHL, Athletes For Care (A4C) is a community of athletes united by the collective belief that health crises such as opioid addiction, depression and chronic pain can be treated by alternative solutions like proper nutrition, yoga, and medicinal cannabis.

The organization founders include UFC legends Bas Rutten and Frank Shamrock; the NFL’s Jake Plummer, Nate Jackson, Eben Britton and Marvin Washington; Cliff Robinson from the NBA; former NHL tough guys Riley Cote and Darren McCarty and a long list of other high performance athletes uniting as one voice to advocate for research, education and compassion when addressing the important health challenges facing athletes and the public at large.

For the first time, Athletes For Care has united athletes from all different leagues, each of whom until now have been advocating on behalf of their own interests. Joining forces, each of these athletes unique perspectives on cannabis and the implications of making it readily available in both pro sports and to the general public, creates a stronger voice to help change public and league perception of cannabis use.

A chief goal of Athletes For Care is to explore how the compounds in the cannabis plant can treat a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. Accordingly, the organization has teamed up with a research institute The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University  to seek opportunities for its members to participate in groundbreaking research by collecting data that will inform policy consistent with the organizationߣs objectives.

As cannabis legalization sweeps the nation, pro athletes are at the forefront of the movement. Each Athletes For Care member has his or her own inspiring story that led them to become advocates; whether it was to kick an opioid addiction, provide pain relief from injuries suffered during their career, or for preventative health maintenance.

For example Bas Rutten, like many athletes from high impact sports, used (and became addicted to) opioids and other painkillers as a way of dealing with pain. By the end of his addiction, Rutten was taking between eight and ten 80MG Oxycontins a day. Thanks to CBD Oil and a healthier lifestyle, Rutten put opioid addition behind him and is committed to helping other athletes do the same.

With the primary mission of supporting a better quality of life for all athletes, A4C is also creating a community for athletes to provide support, opportunity and purpose to one another after a career in sports. A4C will help men and women achieve post-career success through a suite of programs designed by athletes and for athletes including art programs, mentoring and support group programs, online educational course work, internships, and access to business opportunities within new and emerging industries.
