The Health Effects of Playing Bingo

Bingo has come a long way since its inception, particularly with regards to the way the game is played in modern society.

Although bingo has its roots back in the 1500s, it wasn’t until the 20th century that it truly crossed over into mainstream consciousness.

It became popular in the United Kingdom during the 1950s, most notably amongst the working classes in northern towns and cities.

Bingo suffered a decline in popularity towards the end of the last century, but the creation of the internet sparked a resurgence that has continued up to the present day. Not to mention that people can easily claim a bonus on most sites.

A little-known fact about bingo is that it also has numerous health benefits, so read on as we take a look at why this is the case.

Bingo is an Inclusive Activity

Whether you play at a land-based venue or online bingo on the internet, bingo is a game that be enjoyed by everyone.

It is really easy to learn and doesn’t require much in the way of skill – just buy some cards and hope that your luck is in.

Although previously thought to be the sole preserve of the working classes, modern bingo is a thoroughly inclusive activity.

Players can enjoy bingo regardless of which societal group you may align yourself with, making it one of the best forms of entertainment.

Bingo Stimulates the Brain

Studies have shown that bingo helps to reinforce key skills such as concentration and memory – a factor that is tremendously useful for people of all ages.

It can improve both hand-eye coordination and reflexes as you strive to mark off the numbers on your card as they are called.

Maintaining an active brain is hugely important as people grow older and bingo provides a non-challenging way to achieve that.

Whereas some games like chess can be difficult to get to grips with, the simplicity of bingo is the key to its enduring popularity.

Seniors and Bingo

Maintaining good cognitive abilities is important for everyone, but it is a particularly pertinent point amongst older people.

In addition to the previously mentioned boosts for concentration and memory, research has also shown that playing games can help stave off the onset of dementia.

Bingo can be adapted to help in this respect, with larger cards, brighter colours and playing in smaller groups amongst the ways that it can be modified.

The health benefits of bingo for seniors should not be underestimated and highlights why it used to improve their quality of life.

Bingo Improves Health & Wellbeing

Bingo not only boosts cognitive abilities, but it also has the power to improve a person’s emotional and physical health.

Regardless of where you play the game, bingo has a social element attached to that means you can interact with other people.

It’s a great way to spend time with family, meet-up with existing friends or even forge new friendships with like-minded individuals.

Maintaining strong social connections has been proven to help people of all ages live more fulfilling lives, further showcasing bingo’s positive health attributes.

Bingo & Health in the Future

The future of bingo looks to be in safe hands, with a new generation of people latching onto the many benefits the game has to offer.

Innovative events like Bongo’s Bingo, Reggae Bingo and Dab & Drag Bingo are helping to attract an entirely different demographic to the game.

All of the points relating to inclusivity, cognitive benefits and improvements to health & wellbeing still apply, with the ‘fun’ element to these new versions clear for everyone to see.

Whether played in person or online, bingo looks well placed to continue being beneficial to health for many years to come.

A New Day For Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is the Run For The Roses. It’s about mint juleps, gloriously-oversized hats and singing My Old Kentucky Home.

It’s known as the fastest two minutes in sports.

And it’s always held the first Saturday in May, contested in front of the famous twin spires at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Well, almost always.

Among the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic is the Kentucky Derby’s status as the launching pad to Triple Crown glory in thoroughbred horse racing. When racing in the state of Kentucky was put on hiatus during the coronavirus lockdown, among the events shelved was the Derby.

Instead, the Kentucky Derby will now be contested on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, as the entire Triple Crown order was juggled and reorganized. This year, it was the Belmont Stakes, normally the third jewel in the Triple Crown, that set the stage. The Belmont moved from June 6 to June 20.

The Derby will serve as the middle leg in this triumvirate of races to determine the legacy of the world’s best three-year-old thoroughbreds. The Preakness Stakes, normally a mid-May race and the second leg of the Triple Crown, could potentially crown a Triple Crown winner for the first time ever when it completes the 2020 Triple Crown circuit at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore on Oct. 3.

It’s just the second time in history that the Derby was rescheduled. In 1945, the Derby was moved from May 5 to June 9 due to World War II.

A Different Challenge

The Triple Crown is considered the most daunting quest in horse racing, and since just 13 horses have managed to win all three of its races, certainly the mark of a true champion.

Normally a rugged five-week grind, this year’s Triple Crown is requiring an entirely different approach for those who condition the world’s best three year olds.

“Would have preferred the traditional Triple Crown but we are all just trying to get through this,” two-time Triple Crown-winning trainer Bob Baffert told Sports Illustrated. “Glad they didn’t cancel them. It will still be very exciting races and probably tougher because of the time between races.”

Interesting that Baffert, who’s sent out Triple Crown winners American Pharoah (2015) and Justify (2018), finds the longer time frame between races to be a more difficult challenge but there’s good reason for that.

At the age of three, a racehorse is still physically maturing. Just like kids, some get there earlier in the year, while others are late bloomers. The horse that finished up the track in June at the Belmont, or was in fact not yet ready for prime time, could be in prime condition when the Preakness rolls around in October.

As well, champion race horses tend to operate like world-class race cars. They can go out of tune very easily and lose their winning edge in the blink of an eye.

Rule Of Law

Tiz The Law was established as the horse to beat and the only one left with a shot at the Triple crown off his impressive victory in the Belmont at Belmont Park. Across the board in the current Kentucky Derby Vegas odds, the Barclay Tagg trainee owned by the Sackatoga Stable is listed as the 5-2 favorite. The same trainer-owner tandem teamed up to win the 2013 Derby with Funny Cide.

Eleven weeks is a long stretch between races, though. A lot can happen in such a lengthy passage of time. Tiz The Law is expected to tune up for the Derby by competing in the $1 million Travers Stakes for three year olds on Aug. 8 at Saratoga Race Course. Interestingly, only Whirlaway (1941) has ever been able to win both the Triple Crown and the Travers Stakes.

Another contender to keep an eye on is Santa Anita Derby winner Honor A.P. The John Shirreffs trainee is at 5-1 in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Shirreffs sent out 2005 Derby victor Giacomo at odds of 50-1.

Perennial contender Baffert, who’s won the Derby on five occasions, has four contenders listed among the Derby future book. A name to keep an eye on could be Uncle Chuck (20-1). He posted a four-length victory for Baffert in Saturday’s $150,000 Los Alamitos Derby.

You Can Leave Your Hat On

While the Belmont was contested without spectators, the Derby remains hopeful that its annual festival of outlandish headgear will continue unabated. However, the race that normally draws an attendance in excess of 100,000 will be conducted under strict guidelines to limit crowd density due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following consultation with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and state and local health officials, Churchill Downs has agreed to reduce the capacity permitted in general admission, outdoor reserved seating, premium dining and the track’s suites. Those in attendance will be strongly encouraged to wear masks, practice social distancing and to wash and sanitize their hands frequently.

The Kentucky Derby is one of those events on every hardcore sports fan’s bucket list, though. These restrictions have served to drive up ticket prices in the secondary market. Currently, the average price for Derby tickets is a reported $1,423 according to Ticket IQ.

Improving Life Quality with CBD

There are many different things that contribute to our quality of life, and sometimes you may find that your life quality starts to wane as a result of these things. For instance, things such as not getting enough sleep, being in pain, or always feeling low can all have a negative impact on your quality of life. They can also affect key aspects of your life such as your focus, your work, relationships, and health among other things.

The good news is that there are solutions that can help with these problems, and this includes the use of CBD products. CBD has gained a lot of positive press and popularity over recent years, and changes in legislation have made these products even more accessible. You can also choose from many different products to suit your needs such as CBD oil or CBD edibles. Many people take CBD because it makes a stark difference to their life quality, and in this article, we will look at how CBD does this.

Improvements You Can Look Forward To

One of the reasons CBD has become so popular is because it can improve your quality of life in so many ways. Some of the ways in which it can help to achieve better life quality are:

Improving Your Sleep

One of the things that CBD can help with is improving your sleep, and this in turn can then improve your health and quality of life. Lack of sleep can have a huge negative impact on your life, so you need to get the right amount of sleep on a regular basis. By increasing serotonin levels, CBD can help to regular your sleep patterns, which means you can look forward to plenty of rest to recharge your body and mind.

Dealing with Pain and Inflammation

Many people take CBD oil for pain, as it has been proven to be an excellent painkiller as well as a very effective anti-inflammatory. Many believe that it could become a big player in the future of painkillers, and many have found it to be hugely effective. So, if you have problems with pain and inflammation due to injuries or health conditions, this could prove highly beneficial. Reducing pain and inflammation will help to boost your quality of life considerably.

Helping You to Relax

When you find it hard to switch off and relax, it can leave you feeling really stressed and uptight. This can then impact your general health and your mental wellbeing. CBD is a great way to help you to unwind and relax, which can then benefit your overall wellbeing and improve your quality of life as a result.

Boosting Your Mood

We all feel low from time to time, but some more often than others. If you fall into the latter group, it can really affect your life. However, CBD can boost serotonin levels, which can then boost your mood. This then has a positive impact on your life quality.

These are some of the ways in which CBD can help to improve your quality of life.

BRONSON – DAWN

BRONSON Release New Emotive Single “DAWN”

Featuring Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Following Debut Singles “HEART ATTACK (feat. lau.ra)” and “VAULTS”

All to Appear on Their Self-Titled Album Out August 7

Via Foreign Family Collective and Ninja Tune

Listen to “DAWN (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs)”

Following widespread acclaim for their new joint project BRONSON, GRAMMY-nominated duo Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight of ODESZA, and ARIA-platinum selling Australian producer Tom Stell of Golden Features, today released their next single, “DAWN (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs).” Paired with sweepingly cinematic production, the British producer’s celestial vocals evoke a renewed sense of hope and purpose, inspiring a near-spiritual experience upon first listen. A revelatory moment, “DAWN” appears as the final track on BRONSON’s self-titled debut album, due out in full August 7 on Foreign Family Collective and Ninja Tune.

Listen to “DAWN (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs)” here.

BRONSON share how “DAWN” came together: “Creatively, we respect Orlando (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) so much. When we started the writing process for “DAWN”, it was with the intent to fill in the gap of what was missing on the record. We came to him with an initial idea for the track, and in turn, he listened to parts of the record, made sense of its themes both sonically and conceptually and started to write over what became what “DAWN” is now. Not only do the lyrics provide this renewed sense of hope, but his vocals compliment the tone and energy of the song perfectly – “DAWN” is a song meant to take you on a journey and explore various concepts and emotions of the record. We couldn’t think of a more fitting song to end the album with.”

Debuted earlier this year, BRONSON formed out of the personal connection that Mills and Knight shared with Stell, fueled by a calling to pursue new creative frontiers beyond their respective projects. After three years of trading sounds across time zones and continents, the product of those collective efforts culminated in 2018 when the trio spent a week in the remote reaches of Berry, Australia, recording what would later become their first album. The project strikes a beautiful balance between intense, emotive instrumentals and cathartic, melodic vocal tracks. In addition to Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and lau.ra, Gallant lends his voice to the album as a guest feature.

Further exploring their underground sensibilities, BRONSON’s self-titled debut album arrives August 7 via Foreign Family Collective and Ninja Tune. It is available now to pre-order and pre-save digitally. Pre-order the physical LP at the official BRONSON store.

Bridging the GAP

By Armon Hayes × Emily Bunn

Hip-hop icon and culture curator Kanye West announces his 10 year collaboration yesterday with America’s sweetheart brand GAP. Identified as the #WestDayEver, Kanye’s tweet comes as a major displacement in the fashion industry which no one expected. A media frenzy reminiscent of Beyoncé’s Adidas × Ivy Park collaboration as well as Rihanna x Puma is verified for lines of anticipation forming now set to release 2021.

Offerings include men, women, children and possibly home. It’s premature to speculate on design details; however, fans can assume chique yet simple urban duds shared by both Yeezy and the GAP. The household name established in 1969 proves its resilience and continues to reinvent itself. At a time where diversity and equality is at the cutting edge of pop culture, the GAP boardroom is no stranger to utilizing their voice for justice.

According to CNN, on the day of the announcement GAP’s stocks have significantly increased.

Today, Kanye dropped the first piece of merchandise from the collaboration: the Yeezy “Round Jacket.” The cobalt blue puffer jacket was revealed on Gap’s Instagram when they posted a caption-less, silent video showcasing the garment.

The jacket is also being highlighted in various locations across Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago. At four separate locations in all three cities, floating projections of the jacket are displayed.

Shoppers can pre-order the stylish jacket for fall HERE. Currently, the garment is sold out on GAP’s website, and is only available to customers in the US.

Further, today marks Kanye‘s 44th birthday! Surely, the successful release of the Yeezy “Round Jacket” is a birthday gift for both Kanye and his fans.

Notorious BigKlit

‘The epitome of an angry bird’ – 360

Provocative rap sensation BigKlit has announced a special new edition of her infamous 2019 LP, KLITORIUS B.I.G. The album – which includes a number of previously deleted tracks – is available today via ROT$ WORLDWIDE/RECORDS/The Orchard. KLITORIUS B.I.G. features the return of such long-unavailable fan favorites as “FaceFuk,” available now at all DSPs; the track is joined by a companion video, premiering exclusively via YouTube.

LISTEN TO “FACEFUK”

WATCH “FACEFUK”

With its snarling vocal delivery, intense production, and wildly audacious lyrics, KLITORIUS B.I.G. marks one of the first highlights of what has proven a truly incendiary run from BigKlit. The project was recorded soon after her arrival in New York City, informed by grit, heart, and an insatiable hunger to create something altogether original and her own.

BigKlit will celebrate the return of KLITORIUS B.I.G. with a livestream release party tonight, June 26, at 8 pm ET. Presented by Brooklyn’s BABY TV, tickets for the event are available on a sliding scale HERE; ticket holders will receive a link and password 30 minutes before the start of the show. Fans purchasing tickets in the 30 minutes leading up to the performance will receive their info in their order confirmation email.

BigKlit made an auspicious debut with last year’s BIG KLITOIRUS EP, followed quickly by the full-length projects. The NYC-based artist quickly caused a worldwide sensation with her breakthrough hit, “Liar.” With its brazenly explicit lyrics and brutal, relentless beats, the track proved one of 2019’s most provocative hits, first blowing up on TikTok before ascending to multiple streaming charts around the world, reaching #1 on the US Viral 50 on two separate occasions. “Liar“ is joined by an age-restricted companion video streaming now via YouTube.

2020 kicked off with the premiere of PSYCHOSIS, a remarkable 30-minute short film directed by @pgdm. “PSYCHOSIS is a dark and dreary fever dream with apocalypse-level anxiety steady throughout,” raved PAPER. “Every song featured in the film hits listeners’ ears like a hallucinogen — they can be deeply disturbing, comforting (‘Beautiful’), or both at once…It’s the type of digi-gothic, post-genre art-making that BigKlit has come to be known for, and her fans are going absolutely nuts over it.”

Last month saw BigKlit teaming up with Universal Music Group/Caroline Distribution recording artist Trippie Redd on a new version of “Beautiful. The track arrived alongside a haunting music video and companion short film, hailed by PAPER as “a work of art that’s unpredictable at every turn…complete with everything you’d likely see in a twisted thriller: lightning, murder, out-of-body experiences and drugs, all with romantic yet eerie songwriting aimed at a subject unaware of their own beauty.” Audiofemme further praised the video and short film, noting that “Beautiful” “embodies the song’s duality with a macabre love story and BDSM imagery. It’s fitting, because shifting the balance of power has been her trademark as a woman in male-dominated rap. By blurring the edges of asserting control or losing it totally, BigKlit remains a provocative artist worth keeping an eye on.”

This spring also saw the premiere of another propulsive single, “Boy Bye.” The rocket-fueled track is accompanied by a spectacular intergalactic sex domination romp of a video.
