VYBZ KARTEL RECLAIMS HIS THRONE

AFTER 13 YEARS IN JAMAICAN PRISON – EARNING HIS FIRST GRAMMY NOMINATION, LAUNCHING HIS OWN STR8 VYBZ RUM BRAND + HEADLINING HIS FIRST CONCERT IN OVER A DECADE ON NYE  [TICKETS HERE]

10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of his Pivotal Album
Viking (Vybz Is King) Slated for Jan 2025

Vybz Kartel’s unwavering presence in Jamaican dancehall for over two decades has cemented him as one of the island’s most influential artists of all time.  Even after receiving a life sentence in jail, Kartel – born Adidja Azim Palmer – has remained one of if not the most relevant figures of the genre, delivering verses from his prison cell. Some of dancehall’s biggest stars today like Spice, Popcaan and Shenseea can all credit the icon for helping put them on the map, and Cardi B, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Mick Jagger, JAY-Z and Drake are just a few of the musical icons outside of his home country of Jamaica that have professed their love and respect for his music.

The unstoppable lyricist out of Portmore, Jamaica has risen to new heights this year. He was freed from prison on July 31, 2024 when his case was overturned by the courts after serving 13 years in Jamaica. In the short time since his release, Kartel aka the Worl’ Boss earned his first GRAMMY nomination in the Best Reggae album category for his EP Party With Me, launched a new rum line, STR8 VYBZ, and will make a monumental return to the stage with his highly anticipated Freedom Street concert on December 31, 2024, at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. To top off the new year, Kartel will drop a deluxe 10th anniversary album for his seminal Viking (Vybz Is King).

FREEDOM STREET CONCERT

The Freedom Street concert will be Kartel’s first performance since he stepped back into the world, and fans can expect an epic New Year’s Eve celebration featuring a star-studded lineup, including  Spice, Popcaan, Skillibeng, Tommy Lee, Chronic Law, Shawn Storm, Lisa Hyper, Sheba, Gaza Indy, Kartel’s sons Likkle Vybz and Likkle Addi and many other surprise guests. Produced by Downsound Entertainment — the team behind Jamaica’s largest annual music festival, Sumfest—the concert is poised to be a historic moment for Kartel and his loyal fans. With multiple price tiers to suit all fans, tickets for Freedom Street are available at retail outlets across Jamaica and online http://freedomstreetlive.com.

STR8 VYBZ RUM BRAND

In addition to the concert, Kartel has launched a new rum line, STR8 VYBZ, in partnership with TJ Records and The House of Angostura Bitters, signaling a new chapter in his entrepreneurial journey. The rum portfolio consists of four new bold flavors of white overproof,  spiced, white and dark rum, each labeled Fever, Ramping Shop, Electric, and Unstoppable, respectively. “STR8 VYBZ is more than just a rum; it’s a movement. Each bottle embodies the energy and passion of my music, and the spirit of the culture I represent,” declares Vybz Kartel. STR8 VYBZ is produced and bottled by Angostura Distillers in Trinidad and Tobago, distributed exclusively by Caribbean Producers Jamaica Ltd. (CPJ). Select retailers in the U.S., England, Bahamas, Guyana, St. Lucia, Barbados, Jamaica, and Grenada will sell STR8 VYBZ.

NEW MUSIC + FIRST TIME GRAMMY NOMINATION

Vybz Kartel’s ability to consistently churn out hit songs and albums over the past two decades, despite his extraordinary circumstances, is unparalleled. This year alone, he has released a number of singles like “Comet,” “White Rum,” and “Cloudy” and major projects, including his First Week Out album (Jul 31, 21st Hapilos Compilations), and his EP Party With Me (May 31, Adidjahiem Records). The latter, which was released while he was still incarcerated, earned Kartel his first GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album. Despite uncertainty about his future, he manifested the commanding title with 8 party anthems that firmly establish that Vybz Kartel is finally outside. In January 2025, Vybz Kartel will drop a deluxe 10th anniversary edition of his pivotal albumViking (Vybz Is King), which spawned hits like “Unstoppable,” “Gon Get Better” (sampled by pop group Fifth Harmony), “Dancehall,” and “Enchanting.” Fans can anticipate a few new bonus tracks with this re-release as well.

VYBZ KARTEL’S ICONIC CATALOG

Digging further into the archives and his extensive catalog, many of Vybz Kartel’s hit songs are staples of dancehall culture and mainstream popular music. Tracks likeRomping Shopwith Spice (Queen of the Stage) reached at #76 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in August 2009, while Fever surged to #23 on the Rap Airplay chart in August 2017. The stamp of pure Jamaican authenticity that Vybz Kartel provides to his collaborators has opened up doors for dancehall’s integration into some of pop music’s biggest songs. He was a featured guest on Major Lazer’s “Pon Di Floorin 2009, which was sampled for Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls).” In 2005, Vybz Kartel landed guest spots on the Grammy-nominated Red Star Sounds Presents: Def Jamaica. The Worl’ Boss also created a musical tribute to Clarks footwear that has helped propel the British heritage shoe company into a fashion staple for a young generation.

The story of Jamaica’s enduring global influence is inextricably linked to one of its greatest exports — music. And among the many artists who have shaped its legacy, Vybz Kartel stands as a living legend, embodying the indomitable spirit that defines the island.

JAGUAR’S TYPE ZERO ZERO

Introducing an unmistakable, unexpected, and dramatic physical manifestation of Jaguar, as the brand continues its transformation. Type 00 (pronounced Type Zero Zero) embodies the Jaguar brand’s creative philosophy of Exuberant Modernism following the debut of its new brand identity.

The world premiere of the design vision concept at Miami Art Week – as South Florida becomes the center of the art world for six-days – previews what’s to come from Jaguar, as the brand recaptures the original ‘Copy Nothing’ ethos of its founder, Sir William Lyons.

Adrian Mardell, Chief Executive Office, JLR, said: “The magic of Jaguar is close to my heart – an original British luxury brand unmatched in its heritage, artistry and emotional magnetism. That’s the Jaguar we are recapturing and we will create the same sense of awe that surrounded iconic models like the E-type. Our journey is already underway, guided by our original ethos to Copy Nothing – and the results will be nothing short of spectacular.”

In Miami, Jaguar brand’s transformation into an electric-only brand with an elevated family of highly desirable and exclusive new luxury vehicles continues. This transition extends beyond the products Jaguar designs and engineers; it represents a reimagination of the entire brand.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “We have forged a fearlessly creative new character for Jaguar that is true to the DNA of the brand but future facing, relevant and one that really stands out”.

World premiere: Type 00

Introducing Type 00. The physical manifestation of the Jaguar brand’s new creative philosophy – Exuberant Modernism.

The ‘Type’ prefix is a link to the brand’s provenance, to models like the pioneering E-Type vehicle. The first zero references zero tailpipe emissions. The second represents its status as car zero in our new lineage. Its visionary design defies electric vehicle convention with a long hood, sweeping roofline, 23-inch alloy wheels, fastback profile and boat-tail to create a dramatic silhouette with sophisticated, modernist surfaces. This design was enabled by our unique and dedicated architecture (JEA)(Jaguar Electrical Architecture).

Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer, JLR, said: “Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar brand’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakeable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained, creative, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision that strives for the highest level of artistic endeavor.”

Kodak Black – Trill Bill

Today, less than a month after his last mixtape, multi-platinum rapper Kodak Black drops yet another full-length project, Trill Bill — listen HERE now via Vulture Love / Capitol Records. The charismatic Pompano Beach star continues to interrogate his psyche, his peers, and his place in a broken system on an 11-song set that includes features from Taylor So Made and TTO K.T.. Trill Bill comes complete with a visual for the track “News Matt” which includes footage from Kodak’s appearance on Million Dollaz Worth Of Game. Watch the video HERE.

Kodak also continued a Thanksgiving tradition with Kodak’s Turkey Drive this past weekend. He and his Vulture Love label’s artists visited four locations around Florida — in Delray Beach, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Miami. Kodak gave out 1,800 turkeys in honor of the 1800 block that he grew up on. Watch HERE.

Trill Bill follows the November 1 release of Kodak’s Dieuson Octave mixtape (led by the single “Catch Fire”), a haunted, inward-looking project titled after the artist’s actual birth name. But Kodak legally changed his name to Bill Kapri a few years back, and Trill Bill captures the multifaceted man from a different angle — frequently the “fly, fresh, and foolish” side of him, as he raps on “Cyber Truck.”

“Dirty Revolver” taps into that wild energy, but also Kodak’s incredible gift for improvising catchy melodies and unexpected rhythms as he traverses the track, not to mention his ability to set a scene right off the bat: “F— the rain, i’m in the Chevrolet impala with duct tape around a dirty ass revolver.”

Songs like “Cherish the Moment,” “Mayhem,” and “Escalade” with Taylor So Made lean into darkness and indulgence as Kodak uses his blues-soaked delivery to bring details and emotions to life — voice cracking or slurring, bouncing over a stray beat or dropping to an eerie whisper. On “Land in Hell” he lays out a harrowing narrative of betrayal and retribution, sounding weary over heavy keys, bass, and drums.

But like every Kodak release, Trill Bill paints a complex portrait. On “Heartfelt,” over soulful keys, he acknowledges the risks of living life on the edge. A song later, “One Piece Left,” he makes a promise to someone he loves: “Tonight’s my last night on Percocets and acting wild / Been looking everywhere but you was right here all the while / … / I got one more piece of my heart left, and I been saving it for you.”

Trill Bill and Dieuson Octave are Kodak’s first solo full-lengths since 2023’s When I Was Dead, in which he explores both his nightmares and his aspirations. Featuring the smash hit “Lemme See,” the set only reaffirmed Kodak’s status as one of the most gifted of his generation. More recently, he dropped the hard-hitting “Hit Stick,” preceded by introspective cuts “Dis Time,” “Stressed Out,” and “Non Believer” — plus “Shampoo,” a confident burst of street rap in the style that made him a superstar.

What’s more, Kodak kickstarted the summer with his record label Vulture Love’s first official project, Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies on Earth, featuring contributions from VVSNCE, Lil Crix, G6reddot, GorditoFlo, Big Fredo, Jay Dirty, Taji Akeil, and more. Listen HERE. Beyond generating millions of streams, it received tastemaker acclaim. XXL and The Source plugged it, and HotNewHipHop praised, “where this debut album succeeds is giving these up-and-coming artists a great platform to make their voices hard.” He then later followed up the compilation with a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ NOVO.

Kodak’s expansive vision and status transcend rap. Over the years, he’s cultivated the role of a prophetic storyteller and resonant channeller of the culture, and his reach continues to grow. He has over 25 billion global streams to his name and continues to engage in altruism towards his Florida community.

Iran’s Youth

Demand a Non-Nuclear, Secular Republic to End the Reign of Terror

By: Iman Sharif, Iranian American Student Activist & Founding Member of the OIAC’s Youth Chapter

In Iran today, a powerful movement is sweeping through the nation’s youth—who make up more than half of the population—demanding profound change. They envision a non-nuclear, secular republic where their voices, choices, and rights are finally respected. Disillusioned by decades of repression, economic hardship, and isolation, young Iranians are now standing defiantly against the clerical regime, widely referred to as the “head of the snake” in the turbulent Middle East. The recent surge in executions, meticulously documented by human rights experts, appears to be Tehran’s latest tactic to instill fear amidst rising unrest. Yet this strategy reveals the regime’s desperation to cling to control over a society increasingly united in its desire for regime change.

Organizing in groups known as Resistance Units Iranian youth are mobilizing with determination to dismantle a system they believe has robbed them of a future and destabilized the region. Their call for freedom, dignity, and self-determination is not about mere reforms; it is about uprooting a regime that has long failed its people. They dream of an Iran free from clerical rule and free from any potential return to a monarchy. Hyper-connected through technology and social media, this generation is keenly aware of the rights and freedoms enjoyed in other nations. They recognize Iran’s potential to prosper economically and engage peacefully with the world rather than remain isolated by nuclear ambitions and repressive policies.

At the core of their vision is a future, where resources fuel education, innovation, and economic welfare, instead of executions, warfare, and terrorism. For these young Iranians, ending the regime’s nuclear pursuits and oppressive tactics is essential to achieving true freedom and joining the global community.

In recent months alone, the Iranian regime under the leadership of its supreme leader and its new so-called “reformist” president, has executed over 200 people, including many women—a barbaric attempt to silence dissent. To put an end to this brutality, Iran’s Resistance Units are rallying for a new era, one free from clerical rule and military threats. Their vision of a non-nuclear, secular republic embodies a hope for a future rooted in human rights and democratic freedoms. Now, more than ever, the world must heed their call and support their struggle to end Tehran’s oppressive reign and usher in a new era of Iran, an Iran which is a model country that is as beneficial to the world as it is to its people.

Scrappy Socks

When we first started Project Repat, our goal was simple: transform treasured old t-shirts into quilts that people could wrap themselves in. Since 2012, we’ve crafted over a million of these custom quilts at a worker-owned factory in North Carolina, keeping memories alive in a meaningful way. But as we created more and more blankets, we found ourselves facing a new challenge: a growing pile of leftover t-shirt scraps—thousands of pounds of them, in fact.

We could have sent those scraps off to become part of the 5% of global waste created by textiles every year. But that didn’t sit right with us. Instead, we saw it as a chance to do things differently—a way to rethink what sustainable fashion could look like. And that’s how Scrappy Socks started.

Working with Material Return and Opportunity Threads, both nearby partners who share our values, we developed a way to turn those scraps into something new, valuable, and fully recycled. By keeping everything close to home, we’re not just reducing waste; we’re building a local circular economy that supports regional jobs, sustains our community, and keeps the environmental impact low. In a world where sustainability often comes with a high price tag, we set out to create a quality, 100% recycled product that could actually compete on price with less-sustainable alternatives.

With Scrappy Socks, we’re doing something that’s still rare in fashion: sourcing, producing, and selling sustainably—all within the same region. This kind of “tight circle” approach doesn’t just reduce waste; it also cuts down on the carbon footprint of long supply chains, shortens production times, and provides economic stability for local workers. A regional approach ensures that every step, from sourcing materials to delivering the final product, actively supports the community.

What we’re learning through Scrappy Socks is that the future of fashion doesn’t have to be big, global, or wasteful. It can be small, local, and intentional. By using resources close to home and building products within a circular model, brands can reduce waste, support communities, and make sustainability achievable for all. Localized circularity not only reduces environmental impact but also builds resilience, showing that sustainable fashion can indeed be accessible and impactful when centered around community needs.
