J.I. Releases Spotify Singles

Last summer Spotify announced their newest RADAR partnership with Brooklyn’s own, J.I. Launched in March 2020, RADAR has served as the platform for Spotify’s Global Emerging Artist Program, encompassing over 20 global sister programs, and represents Spotify’s commitment to supporting artists across all stages of their development across all genres. Today, the rising artist to watch releases his inaugural Spotify Singles. Recorded in his NYC hometown last fall, Side A is a stripped-back, piano-driven version of J.I.’s single “Letter 2 U,” off his recently released Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3 EP and  Side B is a gorgeous cover of Drake’s iconic “Marvins Room.” Of the tracks he shares “The reasons why I picked these tracks are because ‘Letter 2 U’ was the first single off HLK V.3 and was very well received.  I picked to cover Drake because he is a prolific staple for Generation Z.  ‘Marvin’s Room’ is a vibe so recreating this song made sense.”

Released via G*Starr Ent./Geffen Records the project garnered attention from Complex (“has quickly grown to become one of the brightest acts out right now”), Billboard (“J.I. looks to bearhug the NY rap scene once more with his third installment.”), HotNewHipHop (the young emcee did not disappoint on the new project”) and more. He was also named one of Rolling Stone’s “Biggest Breakthrough Artists of 2020” and landed a spot on The New York Times “Best Songs of 2020 Playlist.” At 19-years-old, J.I. continues to be a force to be reckoned with.

Driving more than four billion streams since the program began in 2017, Spotify Singles was created to give artists an opportunity to record new versions of their own songs, and the songs of the artists they love. The Singles scope includes a unique version of each artist’s own song (Side A) and a cover song of their choosing (Side B). FEVER 333, grandson x Linkin Park

FEVER 333 and grandson covered two Linkin Park songs Wednesday for Spotify Singles.

It is the first time Spotify Singles will go into the catalog, and it’s in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Linkin Park’s diamond-selling album “Hybrid Theory.”

FEVER 333 delivered a sharpened version of “In The End,” which you can hear by clicking right here.

grandson gave listeners a more electronic version of “One Step Closer,” and you can listen to it right here. Both songs are exclusive to Spotify.

grandson said he first heard “In The End” the he was a kid, later learning all of Mike Shinoda’s verses.

“10 years later I played The Forum with Mike in front of thousands of people. Chester is an all-time great, and I could never try and sing like he does,” grandson said. “We had to pitch the song down just so I could come close to hitting the notes in this song. I just wanted to try and pay homage and do this incredible song justice.”

Jason Aalon-Butler of FEVER 333 said he’ll never forget the first time he heard about Linkin Park.

“In The End” was the song that made me believe that rap and rock still belonged together. I studied their tasteful marriage of the two styles from that moment on and created my own music with that in mind,” Aalon-Butler said.

“I wish I could tell my 14-year-old self that one day I’d receive a DM from Mike Shinoda about him liking my music. I wish even more that I could tell my younger self he’d offer to share his talents and energy with me to make more music. I don’t think 14-year-old me would believe it, though. 35-year-old me still doesn’t,” he said.

FEVER 333 is coming off the release of their latest EP titled “WRONG GENERATION.” They’re also currently live-streaming performances, and tickets can be purchased by clicking right here. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

grandson is heading into the release of his first full length album titled “Death of an Optimist” on Dec. 4. It will include his song “Riptide,” which is produced by Mike Shinoda. You can also follow him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

FLETCHER’s Bitter New Single

Today, the American singer and songwriter FLETCHER brings the music world her new single “Bitter”; the song is a collaboration with Billboard charting artist Trevor Daniel and was produced by DJ and producer Kito. Released through Capitol Records, the single is a standout track from FLETCHER’s acclaimed new EP, THE S(EX) TAPES. The album was leaked only two weeks ago and hit number one on iTunes across every genre.

The new single already has 30 million global streams to date and focuses on FLETCHER’s sharp, intricate lyrics and mesmerizing vocals. The song’s addition of Trevor Daniel amplifies the track’s raw emotions. Daniel, an artist originally from Houston, is known for his multi-platinum hit Falling and recent single “Past Life” with Selena Gomez.

This single is a breakthrough for FLETCHER because this single marks the first time she’s ever decided to collaborate with a male artist. This decision coincides with her belief in using her creative output as a way to explore herself, her sexuality and the world around her.

“Trevor and I slid into each other’s DMs about being fans of one another. He’s such a visionary artist and I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with him.” FLETCHER commented in a press release. “Trevor was able to bring a whole new perspective to the song and I guess we’re both still Bitter about our exes.”

FLETCHER has always created a diverse and inclusive space for creation and she channeled this with the creation of her music video for “Bitter.” The video was written, produced, and directed by female director Brooke James. A crew of women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community helped edit the video.

In the cinematic creation of “Bitter,” FLETCHER is shown in a control room replaying surveillance camera footage of strangers in a hotel who are unaware of the cameras. Daniel co-stars in the video and model and artist Mads Paige is also featured. Each of the three characters in the “Bitter” video are seen having individual journeys of exploration, identity, loss and healing while all of their stories overlap. The video is loosely inspired by the erotic thriller Sliver; however, FLETCHER switches the original gender roles of the film. This change adds a new dimension of sexual representation, rawness and attraction to the song’s narrative of emotional recovery and sexual exploration.

“Throughout the video, I wanted to explore the themes of masculine and feminine energy in terms of self-discovery. It is about the fear of knowing you need to go out and explore the world and your relationship with yourself, but being afraid that your person will find somebody new in the process,” explained FLETCHER. “I’ve never understood the saying if you love something, let it go until now. That’s life though. It’s petty, it’s Bitter it’s true and sometimes the truth has to hurt.”

THE S(EX) TAPES EP is An unfiltered look into FLETCHER’s world and shows her personal expression. The collection of magnetic and moody pop songs are all about feeling like you’ve found your forever person but without discovering yourself first. She plays on the feeling of needing to find out more about yourself before giving your all to somebody else.

Since its debut in September, FLETCHER’s EP has already earned critical acclaim from a variety of outlets. like Nylon Magazine praised THE S(EX) TAPES as “perfectly messy pop” and Spin noted, “there aren’t any rules when it comes to FLETCHER’s music.” THE S(EX) TAPES is “bawdy and brilliant, a welcome injection of chaos and funk into the pop landscape,” according to Paper Magazine. The EP was executive-produced by Malay who has also worked with icons such as Lorde and Frank Ocean and was co-written by FLETCHER and her girl gang of songwriters including Caroline Ailin, Emily Warren, Mozella, Jennifer Decilveo, Ilsey Juber, and more.

Listen to FLETCHER’s new single here and watch the provocative music video on Youtube. Look out for updates and new music releases on her website. You can also keep up with FLETCHER on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Giveon – Like I Want You & Untitled

Critically acclaimed Long Beach singer/songwriter Giveon releases the first-ever Are & Be Spotify Singles, which coincides with the new look and feel of the Are & Be flagship playlist.

Exclusive to Spotify, “Like I Want You” (Side A) is a reworking of Giveon’s original song which charted at #25 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, and “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” (Side B), is a cover of D’Angelo’s iconic 20-year-old hit.

Coincidentally, Giveon’s recordings were mixed at Electric Lady Studios, the same place that D’Angelo recorded “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” twenty years ago.

“Really excited to share this version of ‘Like I Want You,’’ says Giveon. “It’s a very personal piece, so stripping it down allows the vocal to be the star of the show. Also, covering an R&B Classic is the icing on the cake. Working on these two songs were a beautiful time for me. “

ABOUT GIVEON

GIVEON infuses Rat Pack-style classiness into modern R&B. Developing his own baritone delivery, he caught the attention of another Long Beach local and multiplatinum singer and songwriter AUGUST 08 [DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber] who served as an initial mentor. In 2018, GIVEON independently made his debut with “Garden Kisses” (2.7M Spotify streams to date) and “Fields,” clocking 1.5M Spotify streams so far.

A year later, he joined forces with producer Sevn Thomas [Drake, Rihanna, Travis Scott] and further honed a signature style of his own. In 2019, he also performed “Giveon Unplugged” to a packed crowd at Soho House in addition to leading a songwriting camp sponsored by Remy Martin and Asics alongside top producers and songwriters such as boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet, Sevn Thomas, WondaGurl, Charlie Handsome, and more. Afterwards Snoh Aalegra personally invited him on her headline tour.

Giveon’s vocals, which have already provided him with a banner moment in 2020 singing the hook on Drake’s “Chicago Freestyle,” are a force to be reckoned with.

His debut EP Take Time was released in March 2020 and has received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike including Billboard, Elle, V Man, Teen VOGUE, Hypebeast, and more. The project has amassed 20M + US streams across Spotify platforms since its release and his rapidly-expanding fanbase is already clamoring for a follow-up project across social media. With more music on the horizon, Giveon ignites a new era for his hometown and a sound unlike anything out there.
