Modest Carbon Tax

A recent MIT Sloan study found that a federal carbon price of $7 in 2020 could reduce emissions by the same amount as all of the flagship climate policies adopted by the Obama administration. In a paper released by the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR , Prof. Christopher Knittel models the carbon price needed to achieve projected emission reductions under Obama-era vehicle mileage standards, the Clean Power Plan, and a biofuel mandate.

“This shows the power of a price on carbon,” says Knittel, who is director of the CEEPR. “As little as a 7-cent price increase per gallon of gasoline and less than half a penny per kWh of electricity could get us the same climate benefits as the fragile, costly, and litigious regulations that represent President Obama’s climate legacy. And let’s not forget that all these regulations are under attack by the current administration.”

In his study, he found that matching the emissions reductions forecast under each regulation would not be enough to get the U.S. on a long-term path to decarbonation. However, a carbon tax that increases over time could reduce emissions by the same amount as all of those regulations combined.

“We’re still only looking at $22 per tonne in 2025 and $36 per tonne in 2030 if we include all major greenhouse gases,” explains Knittel. “If we get really serious about climate policy, the costs will only rise, and the cost-saving potential of carbon pricing will become even more important.”

As decision makers in the U.S. consider policy options to revitalize U.S. climate policy for 2020 and beyond, Knittel says that these results could be a political game changer. “This first effort to model the carbon tax equivalent of alternative climate regulations could help build a consensus around more cost-effective policies. Instead of trying to bring back earlier rules such as the Clean Power Plan, a new administration would do well to focus on one of the many carbon tax proposals introduced on Capitol Hill by both sides of the political aisle.”

He adds, “If we can make a given climate outcome more affordable, then we can also aim higher sooner. And we know that, under all scenarios, we have to drastically increase our efforts to meet the climate challenge.” Knittel is the author of “Diary of a Wimpy Carbon Tax: Carbon Taxes as Federal Climate Policy.” MIT Sloan School of Management is where smart, independent leaders come together to solve problems, create new organizations, and improve the world. Avoid Clinical Entrepreneurial Syndrome

Whether you are running your own business as an entrepreneur – or running someone else’s business as an executive – there is an enormous amount of demand on your resources. You are likely to be playing the role of project manager, human resources liaison, accountant, and marketing specialist. You are the one who gets called on to extinguish fires as well as create new opportunities. All this and more, while remaining positive and energetic.

As enthusiastic as you may be about keeping the business afloat, it’s a fact that humans have a limited amount of resources available. When the demands upon us begin to exceed the energy levels that we have, we experience stress. This feeling is akin to a form of panic – and has a way of creeping into our daily operations. It lies under the surface of our consciousness, and slowly eats away at our resolve. In small doses, it can help us to accomplish great things. In large doses, and if left unaddressed, it can result in our physical and mental decline.

Stress Leads To Burnout

This doesn’t happen overnight. Those who are aware of the possibility of burnout may be able to feel it developing. Burnout is the eventual result of unresolved stress, and it is a warning sign from the mind and body that enough is enough. It is the point at which we decide that we can no longer perform the job functions in which we once took pride. We may begin to avoid work, produce lower quality work, or suddenly quit the job altogether.

The signs of stress which contribute to burnout include fatigue, insomnia, irritability, changes in weight, problems with digestion, becoming forgetful, and inability to concentrate. If you notice that these symptoms are becoming part of your daily experience, take it as a sign that something needs to change. If you aren’t able to change your workload in the face of stress, look into ways of changing your behaviors during your valuable time off. Failure to do so can mean the end of your venture as a successful business manager.

Avoid Burnout Through Being Proactive

As the stress that leads to burnout tends to attack us on three fronts – physical, cognitive, and emotional – the following are three ways to mitigate its negative effects.

Combat Stress on the Physical Level

The adrenaline and cortisol that the body produces in response to stress are responsible for activating our flight-or-fight response. These hormones prepare our bodies for action. When we fail to use this energy in an active way, it can turn on us and wreak havoc with our physical health. To disseminate that energy in a way that is best for the body, try engaging in similar actions as experienced in emergency situations – like going for a run or boxing it out at the gym.

Master Stress on the Cognitive Level

Much of what we interpret as being stressful depends on our perspective. What we have defined as our values and aspirations can fuel our sense of purpose, and that purpose can become an obsession. If we have tied our sense of self-esteem into our occupational achievements, we can become overwhelmed with producing results. To reduce that stress, which we experience over job demands and deadlines, we need to create a mental space where we are able to separate from those types of thoughts. Consider finding mental relief through engaging in meditation or mindfulness techniques on a daily basis. Venting that stress through consulting with a good therapist each week is another possibility.

Diminish Stress on the Emotional Level

Human beings need to have fun. When we engage in pleasurable activities, our body responds through releasing endorphins such as oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine. Unlike the urgent feelings which stress hormones produce, these types of natural chemicals result in our feeling happy, calm, and content. Keep in mind that it is unlikely that you will be able to remove all the stress associated with running a business by having fun. But you can counteract some of it by making sure to schedule time in your busy calendar for engagement in recreational activities.

YOUNG BOMBS RELEASE NEW SINGLE “LOYAL” FEATURING GIGI

YOUNG BOMBS RELEASE NEW

SINGLE “LOYAL” FEATURING GIGI TODAY Duo Extend Tour Plans, Hitting Major North American Universities This Fall Listen To “Loyal” Here:

Maintaining momentum for a breakthrough 2019, YOUNG BOMBS share a brand-new single entitled “Loyal” featuring GiGi today. On the track, the acclaimed duo join forces with the buzzing Los Angeles singer and songwriter. Together, they craft a lush and lively love song, flipping convention upside down in the process. Airy synths and cinematic production give way to an unshakable beat as GiGi’s voice flutters on the refrain, “I’ve never been loyal, I’ve always been selfish with my love, was running in circles, but it’s you I run to now.” “‘Loyal’ is a special song to us. On social media we portray ourselves as these crazy guys but deep down we are both pretty emotional. ‘Loyal’ feels like a diary entry where someone’s deepest and darkest self-reflections are realized and in turn, put them on the path of identifying true love. It’s about being honest with yourself and putting someone else’s happiness before everything. It also has a sick ass drop,” says Young Bombs. GiGi adds her perspective saying,

“‘Loyal’ is about the desire to change from selfish love to selfless love. It’s about finding that one person who makes you want to better yourself, to stop being self-destructive and love completely. Personally, it was about ditching the bad habits I used to self-sabotage and ruin past relationships. I found someone who was so inherently good and who treated me with so much compassion, respect, and love that I didn’t want to stray.” Be on the lookout for the premiere of the music video very soon. “Loyal” follows up a series of scorching singles from Young Bombs. Between the original version and remixes, the empowering anti-bullying anthem “Don’t Let Them” racked up over 2 million total streams. Listen to “Don’t Let Them” Remixes HERE, featuring reworkings by The Small Things, Flyboy, Façade, Weirdos and Jake Wolfe. The track continues to climb at dance radio with adds at Sirius XM and iHeart Evolution. Meanwhile, their debut “Starry Eyes” is nearing 5 million total streams. “Starry Eyes” was selected as both the iHeart Canada “Future Star” and Rogers “One To Watch” – the two biggest airplay programs for a new single in Canada, which has earned them a top 15 record and climbing at Top 40 radio. Additionally, the pair received the praise of Billboard, Idolator, and more. Not to mention, they ignited the Main Stage at ULTRA Music Festival earlier this year.

Following multiple shows this month including a gig at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Young Bombs hit the road for numerous dates across North America, kicking off September 4 in Oshawa, ON at Ontario Tech University. Check out the full confirmed itinerary below. In 2019, Young Bombs make the bold leap from sought-after remixers to artists. That leap remains driven by a personal and creative chemistry forged way back in the Vancouver high school where they became best friends. With nearly 100 million streams in four years, the duo of Martin and Tristan cooked up 53 remixes by 2018.

Along the way, they lent their talents to everyone from Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, and Lady Gaga to Billie Eilish, Alessia Cara, Post Malone, Khalid, and Bazzi. In addition, they attracted the support of Tiësto, Kygo, and Don Diablo. Simultaneously, they graced the stages of blockbuster festivals such as Lollapalooza, Ultra, Firefly Music Festival, and the Billboard Hot 100 Festival. Not to mention, Young Bombs supported The Chainsmokers, Galantis, Diplo, and Alesso on tour around the globe and launched a coveted residency at Drai’s Beachclub in Vancouver.

Why You Should Add CBD To Your Skincare

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, gets a lot of attention for treating chronic conditions such as pain, anxiety, insomnia, even seizures. And while it does offer health benefits, you shouldn’t overlook CBD’s potential for beauty benefits, too.

CBD in skincare can offer a solution for inflammatory skin conditions, support for sensitive skin, and a way to fight the signs of aging. It’s a natural, plant based product that can help your skin.

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant. Cannabis is known for another popular cannabinoid, THC, but unlike THC, CBD won’t get you high.

It works as an anti inflammatory and antibacterial tool, and can offer a host of benefits for your skin when used topically:

  • Rejuvenation
  • Brightening
  • Smoothing wrinkles
  • Relief for dry skin
  • Soothing sunburned skin

CBD is available in a variety of skincare products. You may see CBD in products such as:

  • Moisturizers
  • Lotions
  • Body creams
  • Facial serums
  • Masks
  • Face creams
  • Cleansers
  • Exfoliants
  • Soaps
  • Body wash
  • Eye serums
  • Eye creams

How Does CBD Help Skin?

Offering anti-inflammatory properties, CBD can calm your skin and can treat skin imbalances. That means it may be a good choice for conditions such as acne, eczema, dry skin, psoriasis, or sun damage.

CBD oil is rich in antioxidants, and has vitamins B, C, and E. It also offers healing fats omega 3 and omega 6. Some skincare products combine CBD with other skin soothing ingredients such as shea butter and aloe vera.

What to Know About Using CBD For Skincare

CBD products are legal at the federal level. However, some states have their own restrictions on CBD, so it’s a good idea to check before you start using CBD.

Look for products with hemp oil. Hemp oil has CBD in it, coming from the buds and flowers of the hemp plant.

Be careful to keep in mind the CBD is somewhat of a beauty buzzword, and while you might find it on the label of many products, that doesn’t necessarily mean it offers the full potential of CBD. You’ll want to know how much CBD a product has, and the quality of the CBD. The product should be independently tested for purity.

Find out how much CBD the product has. Look for a third party testing certificate that indicates the amount of CBD and other compounds in the oil. Ideally, you should look for CBD skincare products with 25mg to 250 mg of CBD per ounce.

A little goes a long way. You don’t have to replace your entire skincare routine all at once with CBD. It’s enough to pick a few key items here and there. For example, it could be helpful to replace your night serum with a CBD version, or swap out your body wash.

If you’re curious about using CBD skincare products, consider what might be the most helpful for you. Look for products that can support healthy skin both with and without CBD, and take care to consider product quality, purity, and potency.

Top 5 Ways to Meet People Online

Meeting friends is an adventure filled with fun but always requires going out of one’s comfort zone especially if you just moved into a new area. Online is the best place to meet single women dating. Why? There are 3.9 billion users of the internet worldwide, while the United States accounted for about 293 million of this population. This is more than what a single neighborhood can accommodate.

Meeting People Online

To meet people online, you may need to join some communities or forums. This is similar to offline life. In reality, people in search of friends or date will need to visit bars, clubs or any other socially engaging event.

These online platforms such as Military Singles usually require all their users to fill out certain forms. They will extract information from the filled details to set up a profile which other users can always see to have some information about the new person they are meeting.

Some of the popular and best ways to meet people online include;

Social Media

There are more than 243 million users of social media networks in the United States. Some of these platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter are interesting places to find fantastic people.

Facebook, for instance, is popular for connecting its users with friends and family. Anybody that has an account with Facebook will always be recommended to other people to become friends with through their algorithm that matches your account based on mutual friends you have with others.

See someone you like? Send them a message and who knows, that might be the start of a long-term friendship.

Dating Apps (Such as Military Singles)

Many people are already warming up to the idea of meeting people online through dating apps and sites. Ninety-one percent of Americans have reportedly tried online dating apps while almost 17 percent of them met their future partners through the apps.

Dating apps and sites are not only meant for people in search of a date. In fact, a survey revealed 42 percent of Tinder users are married. Tinder is one of the most popular dating apps.

Users of these apps may need not worry about the probability of people replying to their messages or showing interest in them. Grindr, a dating app for gays, for instance, has about 433.2 minutes of user engagement.

Thinking of the number of people you could meet? There are more than 8 million Tinder users. Plenty Of Fish (POF) also has more than 5 million users

Freelance Websites

The internet has made it easier for people to meet people to hire or outsource their jobs.

People in search of new clients for their businesses may try freelance platforms to connect with new people. Popular freelance platforms like Upwork has more than 12 million registered users and 5 million users with approximately $1 billion worth of jobs posted yearly.

These websites also offer escrow service that protects freelancers from not getting paid for their service. Some people have reportedly quit their day job to focus on freelancing full-time. However, this is not always advisable because it is not always as easy as it sounds.

Team-Based Platforms

Anywhere in the world, meetings can be conducted with attendees located at different parts of the world through platforms like Skype and Hangout. Team communication has also been made easier all thanks to the internet. Team members can now communicate and share ideas irrespective of their locations by using platforms like Slack and Trello.

These are great avenues of meeting people online. An employer using this kind of business model usually hire their employees from different parts of the world. Communicate with others, share ideas and you may be able to build your relationship beyond the platform.

Schools using such a system most of the time always have lots of their students added to the group. This is an avenue for the student to build a relationship they may not be able to build while in class.

Email

We receive different emails every day. Some annoying while others are important and informative. It is very possible to meet people through this medium. As a student intending to study in a particular school, to find out about the school admission criteria or assess your chances of getting admission there, search online for their email address and send them an email.

Freelancers can also use the medium to solicit for work. Promotional emails from a company that might need their service is a lead. Send them the details of your service and await a response.

Conclusion

Meeting people online is easier and more fun. However, it is advisable to be careful before agreeing to see anyone you meet online. When filling out the forms usually required by dating apps, users are advised to be sure of the apps’ validity to avoid leaking personal information to fraudsters.

Aside from all of these, the internet has made it extremely easy to meet people online.

7 Ways To Make Your Face Look Younger

Everyone wants to live forever, but NO one wants to grow old. Well, at least no one wants to LOOK old! That paradox has been ingrained in most of us from the moment we feel the effects of aging!  It is a deep-rooted desire to fight the process of growing old tooth and nail. While it’s true that no one can stop maturing, there are ways that we can slow it down or at the very least look younger. Here are some suggestions.

1. You Are What You Eat

Or, you are what your body absorbs. If you are eating foods that are prohibiting you from absorbing needed nutrients, then that can most definitely be the culprit to looking older. That is why consuming a diet that is nutrient-dense is so important! Avoiding sugar is something you may also want to consider. A diet that is low in sugar keeps insulin levels low. It is important to understand that a consistent spike in insulin levels accelerates aging.

2. Sleep

It is no secret that the body needs sleep but not just any old sleep will do. Our bodies require six to eight hours of recuperative sleep every night. If we regularly deprive ourselves of that then we will begin to age faster, and it will show! If you are suffering from long-term sleep deprivation it is best that you find the root cause and resolve it because sleep is vital to our longevity.

3. Let’s Get Physical!

There is a reason why exercise is often advised when wanting to look younger. That’s because regular exercise dramatically slows the aging process in our chromosomes (thread-like structures housed in the nucleus of each cell). Our telomeres (caps placed at the end of chromosomes like shoelaces) controls aging. As we age, our telomeres become shorter. Regular exercise halts that process helping us maintain longer telomeres which are linked with a prolonged existence. Not to mention that exercise also relieves stress and anxiety which can take its toil and show on our faces prematurely aging us.

4. Water

Hydration is very important in maintaining our youthful appearance. Especially when you consider that the human adult body is 60% of water. Not only does water cool down the body but it also delivers nutrients to the cells and removes waste. Along with drinking water, you can also eat fruits and vegetables with high water content such as watermelon, grapefruit, and cucumber.

5. Protect Your Skin

The sun is a great source of Vitamin D which is necessary for our immune health and absorbing calcium, however, the sun also ages our skin due to its harmful ultraviolet (A and B) rays. These are the types of sun rays that reach the earth’s surface. UVB rays produce sunburn and are associated with the formation of most skin cancers. UVA rays are also the cause of some cancers in the skin. Finding a sunscreen with SPF 15 (at least) that protects against both rays is ideal, also wearing hats and using umbrellas will help.

6. Skin Care: Gel

Keeping in line with skin protection, there are products that can be used that can help with the skin’s appearance. If you are having difficulties with your skin texture or if you have scars, you can use natural solutions like aloe gel or coconut oil. These can be very effective in helping the skin to heal properly and natural. Also, a good scar gel will help.

7. Make-up

How you apply your make-up can make a significant difference in how young or old you appear. Advice on make-up tips can be found all over social media platforms such as Pinterest, Facebook, or YouTube. Be sure to incorporate good habits like removing your make-up and cleaning your face before going to bed and make sure that your make-up is not too old or unsanitary.

What is all comes down to is that, we have to live a healthy lifestyle. I know that we hear this advice over and over again to the point of it being a cliché; however, there is a reason why we hear it often; BECAUSE IT’S TRUE! There’s really no way around it. If we want to look youthful yet live as long as possible, we must develop good lifestyle habits.

Lexus, Costa Rica, 360 MAGAZINE, Vaughn Lowery, RXL

Lexus Milestones

Lexus celebrated their 30-year anniversary this past July; and we couldn’t escape it. We were invited on a 3-day lifestyle activation in Costa Rica, testing both their latest vehicles along side of their precursors. Since Lexus is the leading producer of luxury hybrids, their choice of hosting this event in Costa Rica was not arbitrary. Aside from lush landscapes, the island is a place where environmentally driven initiatives and technologies thrive. The country is a leading producer of hydroelectric energy, and conserving their beautiful flora and fauna is one of their top priorities.

Listen to Vaughn’s interview with Koji Sato, President, Lexus International, Chief Branding Officer on 360 MAG Podcast HERE.

1. Accommodation

Our hopes were high and they were remarkably met with our arrival at the magnificent Four Seasons Hotel, located in Liberia, a jewel in the countryside of Costa Rica. The luxurious property, nicely integrated into the surrounding region was mesmerizing. Modern yet rustic decorated rooms spilt out onto the beachfront as we assembled at a welcoming reception. We were treated like loyalty with excellent service, savory bites and of course, great fellowship. With a 181 rooms, fitness center (which rivaled Equinox), day spa (complete with plunge pool, steam room and hot tub) and private beach, many of us were tempted to stay longer within the 1,400 acres of utter bliss. There was so much to explore via a biking excursion or a simple hike into neighboring jungles.

2. History of Lexus

During the conference, we learned about the history of Lexus; and their product line from 1989 to present. With the use of VR, we were teleported in time to when Toyota arrived in the US. In 1984, they launched the Circle F Project with the aim of releasing a luxury car. The challenge was to change America’s perception of the marque. For this project, Chief Engineer Ichiro Suzuki sets aggressive goals which will define the brand’s strategy and excellence down the route. With over 1400 engineers involved and 400 prototypes later, the Lexus LS was born. A sedan unlike any other. The name, originally Alexis, became Lexus, and the logo came to become this symbol of beauty and perfection with a succession of exceptional cars to accompany.

3. Meeting with Executives

We also got the privilege to sit down and shoot the breeze with some of the senior level executives of Lexus. Koichi Suga, General Manager of Lexus Design, explained to us his inspiration for adding the concierge and driver refresh, he maintains, “Our vision is human centered: what the customer wants, while focusing on our distinctive culture and heritage.” Indeed, the driver refreshes function is an imitation of shiatsu massage, and it was also our favorite feature in this newly reintroduced full-size flagship. In a discussion with Koji Sato, Vice President of Lexus International Products & Engineering, we were informed that the brand expects to issue its first EV by 2025. And he gave tongue to what gives the sedan a long-term advantage over SUV models. He states, “I think the sedan is more formal, more stylish, with a low center of gravity that provides a more emotional feel.”

4. Vehicle Drives

After being fascinated with the history of Lexus, we got to take a glimpse of and even test drive a few. The incredible LFA was on display and the RC F Sport (f/ in Men in Black: International) were definitely crowd favorites. We test drove three of their models: the LS 500h; RXL (new RX w/ third row seating) and LC 500h. The LS literally made us feel like a royal family. The sleek design, alongside a more pronounced spindle grill and a ton of driver/passenger amenities made the interior feel like nirvana. The RXL possesses a 4.4 inch longer wheel base than RX, now seats 7 and has been refined to exaggerate masculinity. Lastly, the LC 500h, spotlighted in the critically acclaimed Black Panther, was simply sublime, from its paw-like exterior to the silky ride it offers. The peaceful drive along windy roads near the rain forests was almost mysterious.

5. Adventure

On our final day, we drove to the Diamante Eco Adventure Park which is home to one of the highest zip lines in the world – approximately 80 stories high and 1 mile long from one side to the other. We strapped into the renowned Superman, headfirst while facing forward on our bellies. Within, 45 seconds or less we were tailed and ready to retrieve our rides.

In short, Lexus created an atmosphere which showcased creativity, confidence and courage. Everything was exemplified through their leaders, bold design and humanity. Here’s to another 30 years!!!
