What started as friendly encounters at college singing competitions soon turned into the formation of a talented group with a shared love for music and cultural-fulfilled connections. The Filipino-American group was brought into recognition when they won NBC’s “The Sing-Off”, which launched them on a national tour, performing alongside Linkin Park, Black Eyed Peas and Pentatonix. Preps Reissue Of Politically Charged Album Death Certificate
Lead Single “Good Cop, Bad Cop” One of Three New Additional Tracks
(May 25, 2017 — Los Angeles, CA) Interscope Records is pleased to announce the recent signing of West Coast rap icon, Ice Cube. Known to be one of the most important figures in rap history, Ice Cube began his career with the Notorious West Coast Gangsta Rap Group N.W.A over two decades ago. At the height of the group’s success, Ice Cube broke away to start his own solo career. With over 10 million albums sold to date, Cube joins the label after several years of releasing music independently on his own Lench Mob Records which includes his Gold Certified 2006 opus “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” the highest selling independent hip hop release of the year.
“We are thrilled to announce that Ice Cube has joined the Interscope family. He’s obviously one of the legendary figures in hip-hop…that’s a massive statement on its own, but he’s so much more than that. The first project under the deal will be a 25th Anniversary edition of Ice Cube’s highly controversial second album. Death Certificate: 25 Anniversary Edition will release on June 9th. The re-release will feature three new songs, “Only One Me,” “Dominate The Weak,” and the sinister lead single, “Good Cop, Bad Cop.” Originally released on October 29, 1991 and produced by OG Cube cohorts, Sir Jinx, and the Boogiemen (DJ Pooh, Bobcat, and Rashad Coes), the incendiary LP, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and sold over five million copies worldwide, takes a potent look at life in South Central through the eyes of one of reality rap’s greatest and grittiest storytellers.
Recorded in the wake of the Rodney King beating in 1991, Cube artfully contextualizes the harsh material he delivers on Death Certificate, declaring a “state of emergency” and breaking down the original 20-track opus into two parts. “The Death Side,” he says firmly, is “a mirror image of where we are today” while “The Life Side” represents “a vision of where we need to go.” The album’s revolutionary tone is established with the opening rager, “The Wrong Ni*** To F*** Wit.” The new material brings equal amounts of fire to the already stellar collection.
Rapidly traversing from guns (“Man’s Best Friend”) to gangs (“Colorblind”), Ice Cube leaves no stone unturned, attacking hot-button issues affecting the Black community with the ferocity of a lion. “Black Korea” addresses tensions in the ’hood after the shooting death of an African-American girl by a Korean grocer; “A Bird in the Hand” laments the lack of gainful employment opportunities for young Black males; “Look Who’s Burnin’” is upfront about the proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases among Black youth.
Nevertheless, activist and scholar Angela Davis took the artist to task for his overtly sexist imagery on the songs “Givin’ Up the Nappy Dugout” and “Horny Lil’ Devil.” The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organization, publicly denounced Death Certificate, calling the album anti-Semitic for comments on the now infamous diss track, “No Vaseline.” The state of Oregon even went as far as making it illegal for local retailers to promote Ice Cube in any way, shape or form.
James Bernard, then-editor of hip-hop magazine, The Source, clapped back at the album’s more mainstream critics with an official statement that said they were “too dainty and thin-skinned to hear the anger, rage and frustration that many people are forced to deal with every day.” In a review of the album for Entertainment Weekly, Bernard wrote, “I’m not arrogant enough to wag my finger at someone for stridency or incorrect language when many of his friends are dead and many of the rest are either in prison or standing on the corner surrounded by burned-out buildings and dying dreams.”
Despite all the surrounding controversy, Death Certificate was heralded a musical masterpiece and Ice Cube ultimately received the accolades he deserved for his incisive and revelatory socio-political commentary. Twenty-five years later, Cube maintains the album’s relevance. “Sadly, our community is dealing with many of the same issues,” he says. “I only hope that young millennials feeling powerless in the ’hood can channel their own anger and frustration by listening to this record.”
Death Certificate: 25 Anniversary Edition will be available for pre-order on June 2nd. The bombastic new song, “Only One Me,” will be made available for early download as an instant grat track.

7 Things You Didn’t Know About the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
Los Angeles is adding to its world-class collection of museums with the announcement that the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has selected Exposition Park in Downtown L.A. as its future home.
When it opens in 2020, the $1-billion museum is expected to be “one of the most imaginative and inclusive art museums in the world—a global destination that all Angelenos and Californians will be proud to call their own.”

1. IT’S MUCH MORE THAN “STAR WARS”

Of course, there will be a treasure trove of Star Wars memorabilia at the museum. But there’s much more to the Lucas Museum than just one blockbuster film franchise. George Lucas’ passion for collecting narrative art – art that tells a story through imagery – is the foundation for a collection that will grow for decades to come. Categorized by The History of Narrative Art, The Art of Cinema and Digital Art, the works on display will range from paintings by Degas, Renoir and Norman Rockwell to digital fine art, comic art and movie props like the iconic Millennium Falcon from Episode IV: A New Hope.
2. YOU CAN WATCH A MOVIE EVERY DAY
Boasting state-of-the-art cinematic theaters, the Lucas Museum will host daily screenings, both individual movies and as part of film series. Student films will also be shown. To enhance the experience, the museum will host pre-screening speaker talks, film study workshops, and related lectures and panels.
Other museum amenities include a fine dining restaurant, a 4,200 square-foot drop-in library, event spaces, and several acres of added green space.
3. IT’S A GIANT CLASSROOM
Surrounded by more than 100 elementary and high schools, and located near Lucas’ alma mater, USC, the Lucas Museum will make education a high priority. From museum visitors to students, teachers and aspiring artists, everyone is invited to learn how great stories are created and why they matter. The museum will feature public lectures and classes for all ages, hands-on workshops, after-school programs and camps, and a wide variety of additional educational opportunities.

The Lucas Museum will be built on the site of what is currently Lots 2 and 3 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The museum’s location off Vermont Avenue, just south of Exposition Boulevard, is a short walk from the Expo/Vermont Station of the Metro Expo Line.
5. IT’S LOCATED IN THE SOUTH L.A. PROMISE ZONE

In June 2016, South Los Angeles was awarded Promise Zone designation, bringing greater access to federal grants and other resources. The South Los Angeles Promise Zone is home to nearly 200,000 people and includes the neighborhoods of Vernon-Central, South Park, Florence, Exposition Park, Vermont Square, Leimert Park, and Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw. L.A. is the only city in the country with two Promise Zone designations within its boundaries.
6. THE MUSEUM IS A GIFT TO L.A.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a gift to the City of Los Angeles from the Lucas family. The museum’s construction, collection and endowment will be fully funded by George Lucas and his family.
7. IT WILL HAVE AN ECONOMIC IMPACT
The museum is estimated to generate more than 1,500 construction jobs and will create over 350 permanent jobs when it opens in 2020.

Dr. Terry Horton Testifies before U.S. Senate on Opioid Epidemic
National Addiction Medicine Expert Shares Insights on Synthetic Opiates (WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 25) The chief of Addiction Medicine at Christiana Care Health System testified Thursday before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Capitol Hill about the scourge of opioid addiction.
Speaking at a hearing on the nation’s synthetic opioid epidemic, Terry Horton, M.D., FACP, FASAM – one of the foremost experts on addiction medicine – warned members of Congress that the opioid epidemic “is critical, urgent, and getting worse.”
Dr. Horton also noted, however, that when clinicians “provide specialized addiction treatment we can reduce drug overdose deaths.”
“When we can lengthen a patient’s time in treatment, we know we will get better outcomes,” Dr. Horton said. “When we combine medication-assisted treatment and therapy, we can win this battle that is being fought by nearly every family in our country.”
Most prescription pain relief medications exist as synthesized versions of natural opiate drugs, such as opium, morphine and heroin. These drugs are powerful painkillers and have become some of the most commonly abused in the nation, with an estimated 2.1 million Americans suffering from substance use disorders related to prescription opioid pain relievers, according to the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Titled “Stopping the Shipment of Synthetic Opioids: Oversight of U.S. Strategy to Combat Illicit Drugs”, the hearing was organized by the Committee’s chief investigative subcommittee, which studies the efficiency and economy of operations related to all branches of the government.
The hearing comes as the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on the overhaul of the federal health law that opened the door to health insurance for millions of Americans and underpinned the opportunity for people with addictions to access evidence-based treatments. The American
Health Care Act – the bill to repeal the existing law – would reduce the number of Americans with health insurance by 24 million, the Congressional Budget Office announced Wednesday.
The bill caps federal funding to states for their Medicaid program and scales back tax credits that help some people pay for private health insurance.
“The opioid epidemic has touched nearly every family in our community in some way, and it is getting worse,” said Bettina Tweardy Riveros, Christiana Care’s chief health equity officer and the senior vice president of government affairs and community engagement. “The proposed cuts to Medicaid would devastate the long-term effective treatments that are saving lives by preventing more overdose deaths every day.”
Dr. Horton shared overwhelming data that supports the fact that long-term treatment – including the use of medication-assisted therapies – can help people break the cycle of opioid addiction.
“We know how to treat this epidemic,” Dr. Horton said. “We are learning what works…That means we have hope, but only if our policy decisions continue to support evidence-based treatment.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Horton has developed initiatives to treat addiction that have been adopted nationally. Most notable is the early-intervention substance abuse program at Christiana Care known as Project Engage. Through this program, health care professionals known as engagement specialists, who are peers in recovery, reach patients with substance abuse problems at their hospital bedside. By reaching those patients while they are at the low point of their addiction, the engagement specialists have a greater chance of successfully linking those patients to resources in the community that put them on the path to recovery. Project Engage also has been highlighted by the American Society of Addiction Medicine as a national model.
At Christiana Care, Dr. Horton also developed and launched the Opioid Withdrawal Pathway, an innovative effort to screen, identify and treat opioid-addicted patients who are admitted into the hospital that improves the quality and safety of their care, improves their patient experience, and reduces their cost of care.
“Today’s opioid crisis is arguably the worst in American history, and Delaware has not been immune to this heartbreaking epidemic,” said U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs’ Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. “Dr. Terry Horton spoke to the seriousness of this epidemic in Delaware, where over the past three years, hundreds of families have suffered the loss of their loved ones to fatal overdoses, and many more have witnessed someone they love struggle with addiction or substance abuse. We know that opioid addiction is a complex problem, but we also know that fatal overdoses are preventable. A not-for-profit teaching hospital affiliated with Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Christiana Care is recognized as a regional center for excellence in cardiology, cancer and women’s health services. Christiana Care has an extensive range of outpatient services, and through Christiana Care Quality Partners, Christiana Care works closely with its medical staff to achieve better health, better access to care and lower cost. Christiana Care is home to Delaware’s only Level I trauma center, the highest capability center and the only one of its kind between Philadelphia and Baltimore.
