WHEN HARRY MET REHAB

THE WORLD PREMIERE of  WHEN HARRY MET REHAB Starring Dan Butler, Frasier’s “Bulldog” by Spike Manton and Harry Teinowitz

Directed by Jackson Gay

Don Clark, Chicago-based Film and Theatre Producer and Co-Owner of the Chicago Magic Lounge presents the World Premiere of WHEN HARRY MET REHAB – a comedy that takes sobriety seriously, based loosely on the real-life experiences of Chicago sports radio personality, Harry Teinowtiz. Dan Butler will star as Harry. Butler is best known for his role as “Bulldog” for seven seasons on the legendary television comedy Frasier, as well as “Art” on Roseanne. WHEN HARRY MET REHAB previews November 24 and opens December 5 at Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue, for a limited engagement. Co-authored by former ESPN personality and playwright Spike Manton (Leaving Iowa), WHEN HARRY MET REHAB chronicles in a humorous yet poignant way how an alcoholic on the edge of clueless annihilation ended up in the hands of a magician whose greatest trick was making his denial and excuses disappear.

In addition to his much-loved role on Frasier, highlights from Butler’s long and illustrious stage career include Broadway productions of Travesties, Biloxi Blues, Twentieth Century as well as the world premiere of Terrence McNally’s Lisbon Traviata with Nathan Lane and John Slattery.

Butler is surrounded by a powerhouse Chicago cast that includes Ora Jones (Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Goodman Theatre, as well as Broadway productions of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Matilda), Elizabeth Laidlaw (Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Steppenwolf), Keith D. Gallagher (Steppenwolf, Lookingglass, Northlight), Chiké Johnson (Steppenwolf, Goodman Theatre, Broadway production of Wit), and newcomer Richard Gomez (Columbia College, Chicago).

WHEN HARRY MET REHAB is an evening in the theater that will leave a mark that is flat-out funny, moving, and unforgettable. It is a story of redemption, perseverance, and hope. It is estimated that over 22 million Americans are in recovery. This show is for them, their families, and their friends.

WHEN HARRY MET REHAB will run at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago previewing November 24 and opening December 5 for a limited engagement through January 30. The performance schedule is as follows: Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, Sunday evenings at 7:00 pm, with additional matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm. Tickets range from $42 to $85 plus processing fees. For tickets and more information, visit here or call the Greenhouse Theater Center Box Office at 773-404-7336.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA IN NEW YORK

WITH THE NEW YORK RETURN OF THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA,

THE LONGEST-RUNNING SHOW IN BROADWAY HISTORY,

THE ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING IS AVAILABLE ON REMASTERED 2CD

AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS

PERFORMANCES RESUME FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22 AT THE MAJESTIC THEATRE

With over 40 million copies sold worldwide, The Phantom of the Opera Original Cast Recording is the best-selling cast recording of all time. Originally released in 1987, the original “The Phantom of the Opera” cast recording was the first in British musical history to enter the charts at number one and is available to stream or purchase here.

In September, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh announced complete casting for the New York return of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, the longest-running show in Broadway history. Directed by the late theater legend Harold PrincePHANTOM is set to resume performances on Friday, October 22 at 8 PM at The Majestic Theatre (245 West 44th Street) – the musical’s New York home for all 33 record-breaking years.

As much a part of the city landscape as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA remains an iconic New York City landmark. Tickets are on sale via Telecharge.com and in person at the theater’s box office.

Cameron Mackintosh said, “Never in a million years could we have imagined that all of Broadway would be shuttered for nearly a year and a half, but I am thrilled that at last PHANTOM will be back where it belongs at the Majestic Theater from October 22nd in all its gorgeous splendor. It has been an extraordinarily difficult time for all the 125 people who bring PHANTOM to life every performance, so we are all overjoyed to be back rehearsing Broadway’s longest-running musical and eagerly looking forward to the chandelier rising again. In front of a full house in 5 weeks’ time. So let the audiences in and let the opera begin.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber added, “I am a proud Brit, but Broadway has always been my spiritual home. To have PHANTOM lead the effort to bring our beloved community back to the stage is a moment of immense pride for me. The only heartache is that Hal will not be with us, but when we all return for our first performance on October 22, I know his spirit will be there, cheering our cast, crew, and orchestra on and welcoming audiences back to The Majestic Theatre.”

As previously announced, the complete PHANTOM Orchestra – Broadway’s largest – also returns, under the continued musical supervision of David Caddick with the musical’s original, lush orchestrations.

ABOUT THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

Broadway’s blockbuster phenomenon, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, directed by the late Harold Prince, is one of the world’s all-time most successful entertainment properties.  Produced by Cameron  Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has been the longest-running show in Broadway history for well over a decade, and its astounding longevity in New York and around the world is unprecedented.  On Broadway alone, the musical has played an unheard of more than 13,000 performances to 19 million people at The Majestic Theatre (245 West 44th Street).

Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston LerouxTHE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart with additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and book by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber.  It is directed by the late Harold Prince.  Musical staging and choreography are by the late Gillian Lynne.  THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has a production design by the late Maria Björnson®, lighting by Andrew Bridge, and sound by Mick Potter with an original sound by Martin Levan.  Musical supervision and direction are by David Caddick and orchestrations are by David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history.  Andrew Lloyd Webber’s romantic, haunting, and the soaring score includes “The Music of the Night,” “All I Ask of You,” “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again,” “Masquerade” and the iconic title song.  It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of The Paris Opera House.  Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of the young soprano Christine, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, The Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions collide.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has played to over 145 million people in 41 countries and 183 cities in 17 languages. It has won more than 70 major theatre awards, including seven Tony Awards and four Olivier Awards.  PHANTOM has celebrated over 30 years on both sides of the Atlantic, and before the recent lockdown, the London production was in its 34th year and the Broadway production was in its 32nd.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has been the largest single generator of income and jobs in Broadway and U.S. theatrical history. In the New York production alone, an estimated 6,500 people (including 400 actors) have been employed during its more than three decades running.

The musical’s flagship London production recently reopened at its home and birthplace, Her Majesty’s Theatre, on August 8 to rave reviews and just celebrated its 35th Anniversary.

evrYwhr Celebrates His Homecoming In The Video For “Tie Dye”

The GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter pays homage to the City of Angels, love, freedom, and connection in his latest release

“Addictive”- okayplayer.

“He releases masterpieces that embody an eclectic marriage of R&B and pop”- LA Weekly

Today, GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter evrYwhr returns with his new video for his single “Tie Dye” released last month. Since its release, the soulful, self-love-inspired track has already found its way onto a plethora of tastemaker playlists including Apple’s New in R&B, NPR’s “New Music Friday”, Tidal’s “Rhythm and Groove”, and “Chill Pop. Watch the video for “Tie Dye” on YouTube HERE.

The Blair Taylor (2 Chainz, G-Eazy) produced track brings evrYwhr’s eclectic blend of neo-soul, R&B, and pop to the forefront with richly textured melodies and airy flute accents that weaves colorful sounds – free-flowing, like the colors of a “Tie Dye” pattern. The song invites listeners on a journey of self-love, acceptance, and positivity – an especially timely sentiment after a period of unrest globally.

Filmed against the stunning backdrop of Los Angeles, the video for “Tie Dye” video serves as a love letter to the city and community that welcomed him with open arms as a transplant. We watch as evYwhr ventures through a warm and inviting LA streetscape, enjoying good times with friends and family – from backyard BBQs to picturesque scenes on the beach. Of the video, evrYwhr shares: “Though Im originally from Michigan, the community I uncovered on the West coast has been a garden bed for my growth over the last 10-years. Ive discovered deeper layers of my truth on the coastline where the ocean waves molded my being like the shore”

With community, connection, and family a priority for evrYwhr, the making of the “Tie Dye” video was an especially significant experience. “One of the most beautiful things about this shoot were the moments captured with my family and friends. For the majority of us, it was the first time we connected face to face since the pandemic hit. Tie Dye was our homecoming”. Fittingly, sunflowers feature throughout the video to represent a period of blossoming.

2021 has marked an exciting creative period for evrYwhr. Beginning with the release of single “Positive Vibes”, evrYwhr has returned with a string of new releases imbued with his trademark buoyant lyricism and eloquent vocal delivery. evYwhr also recently premiered the first episode of his Transit Pictures produced show “Destination evrYwhr”. Showcasing his passion for global culture, “Destination evrYwhr” follows his travels to Cambodia where evrYwhr connects with people through the medium of music.

Look for “Tie Dye” as part of evrYwhr’s awaited debut album set to be released in the summer of 2022 under label Saint & Citizen music.

On the heels of his breakout year, Swiss indie rocker Sam Himself – New Yorker by choice,  Fondue Western baritone by trade – prepares to release his debut album, Power Ballads (October 8th). The Brooklyn-based songwriter, performer, and multi-instrumentalist has been sounding the bell for his first LP with a number of singles, most recently “La Paz” and “What Its Worth” which premiered via Under The Radar Magazine and was picked up by KCRWs Morning Becomes Eclectic and KEXPs The Morning Show, among others: as of September 2021, three out of four album singles remain on public and commercial rotation in Germany, France, Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe and the US.

Sam Himself’s full-length debut follows last year’s acclaimed EP Slow Drugs, the artist’s third, which – in addition to the international press, radio airplay, numerous DSP editorial features, and critical praise for the accompanying music videos – earned him the Swiss National Broadcasting Service’s Best Talent Award in 2020 and, in early 2021, a nomination for a Swiss Music Award, the most prestigious national prize of its kind in Sam’s home country.

Power Ballads marks the latest collaboration between Sam and his longtime producer, mixing engineer, and Second Beatle’ Daniel Schlett (The War On Drugs; Iggy Pop), as well as mastering legend Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen; David Bowie).

Early last year, Switzerland’s King of Tears Sam Himself was in Europe kicking off his spring tour when the pandemic foiled all live music plans – and Sam’s planned return to Brooklyn, NY, his chosen home of the past decade. Dangerously low on socks, musical equipment, and any real sense of when he’d be able to get back to the United States, Sam ended up staying in his native Switzerland for the remainder of 2020. The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, exiled at home, spent those months in limbo writing and recording what would become his debut album, Power Balladswherever he could (including the attic of his mom’s house). When he made it back to New York in early 2021, Sam (after a period of self-quarantine) went straight to producer Daniel Schlett’s Strange Weather Studio in Brooklyn to finalize his new material, building on the recordings he had originally prepared as demos for his album.

Two songs on Power Ballads once again feature Sam’s Slow Drugs bandmates Josh Werner (bass – Ghostface Killah; CocoRosie) and Parker Kindred (drums – Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith), among them the LP’s focus track The Missing. The work of Benjamin Noti (guitar – Steff La Cheffe) and Georg Dillier (bass – Anna Rossinelli), both members of Sam’s touring band, can also be heard on several tracks.

Beyond their contributions, however, Sam plays most of the instruments on Power Ballads himself, with producer Schlett adding sounds, textures and of course his singular mixing style (as heard recently e.g. on Iggy Pop’s cover of The Velvet Underground’s European Son). This reduced lineup, a consequence of the new practical realities of the pandemic, imbues Power Ballads with a sense of intimacy and artistic autonomy. Synths and programmed drums form the core of most of the album’s by turns minimalist and grand arrangements, while Sam’s signature baritone voice quite literally reaches new heights. Over the course of ten tracks, the artist grapples with the sources and limits of personal power – how much of it is taken for granted; what remains once it’s stripped away – unflinchingly honest and defiantly optimistic on his most vulnerable, most confident work to date.

Sam Himself is set to tour in support of his debut album well into the spring of next year, with some 30+ European dates in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and beyond (US-dates in planning).

Structural Anthropology Zero – Lévi-Strauss

This volume of Lévi-Strauss‘s writings from 1941 to 1947 bears witness to a period of his work which is often overlooked but which was the crucible for the structural anthropology that he would go on to develop in the years that followed.

Like many European Jewish intellectuals, Lévi-Strauss had sought refuge in New York while the Nazis overran and occupied much of Europe.  He had already been introduced to Jakobson and structural linguistics but he had not yet laid out an agenda for structuralism, which he would do in the 1950s and 60s. At the same time, these American years were the time when Lévi-Strauss would learn of some of the world’s most devastating historical catastrophes – the genocide of the indigenous American peoples and of European Jews.  From the beginning of the 1950s, Lévi-Strauss’s anthropology tacitly bears the heavy weight of the memory and possibility of the Shoah. To speak of ‘structural anthropology zero’ is therefore to refer to the source of a way of thinking which turned our conception of the human on its head. But this prequel to Structural Anthropology also underlines the sense of a tabula rasa which animated its author at the end of the war as well as the project – shared with others – of a civilizational rebirth on novel grounds.

Published here in English for the first time, this volume of Lévi-Strauss’s texts from the 1940s will be of great interest to students and scholars in anthropology, sociology and the social sciences generally.
