When not on set you can find Dante in the recording studio, laying down tracks under his moniker “DanteThePoet.” A Grammy Camp alumni and independent artist, Dante takes the blueprint of Childish Gambino, the lyricism of Kendrick Lamar, and the hustle-nomics and genius of Kanye West, to create a sound that is on the forefront of hip hop music, inspiring and uplifting other post-millennial teens, like himself.

Facebook Agrees To Work With The NCAC

The National Coalition Against Censorship has announced that Facebook is willing to collaborate with the group after the nude art action #wethenipple in New York City on June 2nd where 125 people posed nude in front of Facebook’s HQ. The Art Action, organized by the NCAC and world renowned photographer Spencer Tunick, was covered by CNN and picked up worldwide.

Grab Them By The Ballot Founder, Harvard Law educated Dawn Robertson, participated in the photo shoot and worked with the NCAC to promote the event. She is optimistic about the collaboration but has some additional concerns to add.

Grab Them By The Ballot, a nude photo campaign to empower women and increase voter turnout in 2020, joined the art action to protest the behemoth’s policies regarding artistic female nudity used for activism and the shaming of women’s bodies. Frustrated by their own experience of censorship on the social media platforms and worried it could end their campaign, the grassroots non-profit eagerly got involved. Robertson posed in the photo shoot (details available upon request).

Robertson wants to see the policies loosen and also be executed consistently with the context taken into consideration. She wants a fair appeals process with actual people readily available and the permanent disabling of ad accounts and use of an automated system addressed.

“I was honored to be involved and respect that the NCAC and Tunick are primarily addressing the censorship and rights of artists. We are concerned about the censorship of the intersection of art, activism and the representation and treatment of female nudity. We want to create a cultural shift and normalize female sexuality and nudity” says Robertson.

The NCAC said Facebook has agreed to put together a group including artists, art educators, museum curators, activists, and employees to consider new nudity guidelines for images posted to its social-media platforms.

“I’m a bit concerned and suggest that feminist activists and sex-positive healers, educators and entrepreneurs be included in this group to address nude expression used outside of the art world as well as the censorship of sexually related written content. Facebook may still censor content related to women’s sexual education, healing, sovereignty and empowerment.” adds Robertson.

Robertson is also concerned about the distinction between Facebook’s advertising policies and community standards and wants it to be addressed. “They are two different beasts and when advertising the censorship is far greater” she says. Robertson adds “Regarding the advertising policies, most importantly, they should apply the general community standards regarding female artistic nudity- including the exceptions allowing nudity as a form of protest -to their advertising policies. Facebook could have a opt-out feature so users aren’t solicited unexpectedly as that is their apparent concern.

The strict advertising policies limit activists, artists, educators and healers from profiting from their message and building an audience” adds Robertson. “We are selling female empowerment and Facebook also needs to have actual people looking at the context of ads.”

“It’s important to note that there’s an option to advertise to only those who like your page which is akin to dispensing content to friends on a newsfeed. At the very least, we should be able to promote and advertise to this audience as they have essentially opted-in. It’s just as we can to our friends through our personal accounts.” Robertson adds.

Dunton Destinations Unveils Sustainability Initiative

Dunton Destinations, a collection of three award-winning luxury properties in the Colorado Rockies, has implemented a robust on-property sustainability program incorporating renewable energy, composting, waste reduction and community outreach.

At each of Dunton Destinations’ Colorado properties – Dunton Hot Springs, the 19th-century ghost mining town turned luxury resort in the San Juan Mountains; Dunton River Camp, the luxury tented camp just four miles downriver from the hot springs; and Dunton Town House, the renovated inn in downtown Telluride – all electricity used is generated from 100% renewable energy.

This spring, the Dunton team also began separating all paper waste and using it for fire-starting and composting – saving six cubic feet of paper from landfills per week. Additionally, the kitchen teams at all Dunton Destinations properties now make all their own yogurt, cottage cheese and cream cheese in-house, thereby eliminating 70% of its intake of #5 plastics in the form of dairy containers. The whey extracted from the in-house cheese-making process (along with all other organic waste) at Dunton properties is then taken to Bountiful Ridge Farm, where it is fed to chickens as an organic supplement to their diet; and Dunton then sources its meat and eggs from the farm for its kitchens, completing the sustainable full-circle relationship between the farm and the hotels. And the composting program at Dunton Hot Springs will soon be complete, with two in-ground composting troughs that will hold 20 cubic feet of organic waste and cardboard.

The sustainability initiatives at Dunton Destinations also extend to the guest experience, with resort guests now invited to partake in craft work throughout the properties and encouraged to become more involved in the kitchens, including Dunton Hot Springs’ new whole animal butchering demonstrations. Over the course of the year, the properties will also begin integrating candle-making, bar-craft, composting and cheese-making into the guest experience. All candles are made in-house at Dunton, using therapeutic essential oils and sustainably sourced vegetable wax.

As part of its community outreach initiatives, Dunton has re-initiated its relationship with The Bridge, the homeless shelter located in Cortez and the only all-accessible homeless shelter in the southwest corner of Colorado. Each month, Dunton staff members participate in two volunteer nights each, serving food to guests of the shelter.

Romy Nordlinger Is Alla Nazimova

NYC—PLACES! The Alla Nazimova Story will show at HERE’s Summer SubletSeries: Co-Op in New York City, at the HERE Mainstage Theatre on 145 Sixth Avenue whose entrance is on Dominick street. The event is from June 11th-15th at 8:30 pm with another showing on the 16th at 4 pm. General Admission tickets are $20.

“By opening our eyes to the past, we are better able to see our present.”-Nazimova

Escaping antisemitic Tsarist Russia, she was able to go on to achieve many artistic milestones. Nazimova starred on Broadway and then became Hollywood’s highest paid silent screen icon. She also went on to become the industry’s first female director and producer with the Shuberts naming a theater after her.

Unfortunately, because Nazimova defied moral and artistic codes of her time, she was forced into obscurity. PLACES!, a theatrical multimedia solo show, tells the story of Alla Nazimova, the forgotten lesbian trailblazer, iconoclast and the greatest star you’ve never heard of. Returning from the grave, Nazimova raises her voice, reclaiming our collective history, lighting the way to diversity.

“Sexism, racism, homophobia, ageism: Nazimova was fighting these contemporary struggles back in the 19th and early 20th Centuries, but alone and without a twitter account. In writing and performing PLACES!, I am setting the record straight and telling Nazimova’s magnificent story. We are all the stories we tell, and an artist is only dead when the last person to remember them dies.” -Romy Nordlinger

Romy Nordlinger wrote and performs The Alla Nazimova Story as a one woman show. The actress is well-known for several roles such as Bull (CBS), Lancelot by Steven Fechter, and, currently, the upcoming Lancelot feature film. Some more recent credits include Florence Foster Jenkins, the web series WOMG and the upcoming Indie short, A Separation.

Talkbacks are after the performances on Tuesday, June 11th, and Sunday, June 16th with Karynne Summars of the Hedonist Magazine as well as on Wednesday, 12 June with Trav SD.
