New AI app reduces back pain by 40%

Boston based digital therapy startup Kaia Health launches a new app that uses AI and patent pending motion tracking technologyto personalize treatment programs tomanage and treat chronic low back pain(LBP) which has been shown in clinical studies to reduce chronic back pain by 40% and could save the US economy billions each year.

Created by Kaia Health the motion tracking technology requires no additional hardware. The app has been registered as a Class 1 medical device with the FDA which allowsusers to self-manage their back pain through physical exercise, behavioural exercise (e.g. relaxation and meditation) and education.

Earlier this year the digital therapy startup launched the Perfect Squat Challenge App, the world’s first Artificial Intelligence-powered motion tracking fitness app that turns a smartphone into a personal trainer. In Q4 2018 the company intends to roll out20 more motion tracking exercises for the app.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) LBP is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. In fact, according to the American Chiropractic Association(ACA) 31 million Americans experience LBP,and one half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.

The epidemic of prescription opioid overuse and abuse has also led many health groupsincluding the ACA, the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Association of Pain Management (AAPM) to reconsider the value of a non-pharmalogicalapproach to common conditions such asLBP.

The ACP, the largest medical specialty society in the world, updated its LBPtreatment guidelines in 2017 to support a conservative approach to care. Published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, and based on a review of randomized controlled trials and observational studies, the ACPguidelines cite heat therapy, massage, acupuncture and spinal manipulation (a centerpiece of chiropractic care) as possible options for non-invasive, non-drug therapies for LBP. The guidelines state that only when such treatments provide little or no relief should patients move on to medicines such as ibuprofen or muscle relaxants, which research indicates have limited pain relief effects. According to the ACP, prescription opioids should be a last resort for those suffering from LBP, as the risk of addiction and overdose may outweigh the benefits.

The Kaia app has been developed by aleading digital therapy company Kaia Health in conjunction with physiotherapists, pain management physicians and clinical psychologists.

The app uses a multidisciplinary digital approach which offers users online video-based learning programmes that covereducation, physiotherapy (includingexercises for the lower back and lateral muscles) and psychological strategies(including mindfulness and muscle relaxation).

The AI tailors treatment programs for each user from over 120 exercises, and motion tracking technology ensures that the exercises are performed correctly using a smartphone, tablet or iPad without the need for additional hardware.

Each session lasts for 15 minutes and can be accessed anywhere 24 hours a day. The app also features a chat function whichconnects users to a physiotherapist or sport scientist for motivation and exercise related questions.

Two clinical trials into the Kaia app show a significant reduction in LBP by 40%, well above the clinical threshold of pain improvement. The second study shows a40% long-term retention of users for aminimum of 6 months.

The Kaia app was developed in Germanywhere it has been downloaded over 100,000 times in its first year. The Kaia app is now being reimbursed for over 20 million patients globally.

Kaia Health is member of the Digital Therapeutics Alliance (DTA), an association of international manufacturers for digital therapeutic products that are evidence-based.

Konstantin Mehl, CEO of Kaia Health says:Opioid addiction and overdose is a huge issue in the US, and is, according to the ACP, a last resort for those suffering from LBP. Their 2017 LBP treatment guidelines support a non-pharmalogical approach to care using non-invasive, non-drug therapies. A holistic, multidisciplinary treatment of LBPhas always been a resource-intense, costlyundertaking which makes it hard forpatients to get access to the therapy. However, with the Kaia app we’re digitising therapy which offers as many patients as possible access to effective treatment ofLBP. This empowers and motivatesindividuals to take control, and self-manage their condition with evidenced-based, non-pharmacological, cost-effective alternatives and this could save the US economy billions each year. The Kaia app, and advances in technology, demonstrates why we need to rethink how we treat diseaseconditions such as LBP, and make digitalself-management a more realistic part of treatment.

The Kaia app is available on iOS and Android, and can be downloaded via GooglePlay and AppStore. The first 7 days of the program are free. To unlock the full functionality the costs are: 3 months: $23.99, 6 months: $64.99 and 12 months: $94.99.

How do I start dating again?

You probably had high expectations for marriage but things happened, and you called it quits. It has been five years since you went on a date and are wondering can I date again. This is a question that many people who have gone through breakups, divorce or their partners have died often ask.

Certain aspects of dating have changed since over the years. Gone are the days when dating included coffee dates or meeting at the movies. We now have many online dating sites, and the probability of meeting someone online through various social media platforms is high.

If you plan on getting out there and dating there are several things that you need to consider.

List what you want from a partner

It is essential that you make a list of what you would like from a potential partner. While finding the perfect partner is a cliché there are qualities that you are not willing to compromise on. Your past relationships should guide you on what you do not want or what you liked. It is also vital that you stop comparing your future partner with your past. It is essential that you avoid people who are on drugs like tramadol addiction or alcoholism. This is because you do not want to deal with all the drama that comes with addictions too soon.

Have fun

Don’t be so engrossed in finding the right partner that you forget to have fun. Dating is supposed to be fun; look for activities that interest you and your partner. It is easier to fall in love when you are not so tense. Instead of this person being the perfect match try having fun without being judgmental. Avoid going to places that remind you of your ex; be creative and discover new places. The date does not have to be romantic and does not mind finding a new friend. You can choose to download one of the several dating apps available online. Look for one that is genuine and begin by creating friendships.

Work on yourself

Relationships can drain you and leave you with notime for yourself. This single period is the ideal time to finding and doing things that you are passionate about. You can decide to hit the gym and work out on your image. Do this for yourself and besides you might find someone new. As you invest more time inyourself, you find qualities about yourself that you have never discovered. Travel and expand your horizons, learn a new skill or language, take cooking lessons or simply change your wardrobe.

Change your attitude

A break up can change how you view relationships. You probably have negative preconceived ideas on different genders,or you probably have the attitude that all relationships hurt and lead to break up. It is good to take some time and grief your previous relationship. Find and focus on the positive. Avoid generalizations – what happened in the past is in the past. You have a high chance of finding love if you maintain the right attitude.

Do not be too “picky.”

There are those who approach a new relationship with a list of qualities that they are looking for; when you look at the list, you realize that it is impossible for one person to be that perfect. While we are not telling you’re to lower your expectations; we are encouraging you to be realistic about your expectations. Give people a chance and do not focus so much on their weakness. Not every person you come across will have the same qualities as your previous partner.

Take your time

Do not rush to get into a relationship. There can be pressure due to age to get married, but you need to go in your pace. Go for more dates and try different types of people. This will give you a wide variety of choices. Dating should be fun so relax and try out new things. While on a date take your time to ask meaningful questions. Where does your date expectations? Where do they see themselves in the next five or ten years? Questions also keep the conversation going.

First date

Avoid shifting the conversation to your ex or past hurtful relationships. People, like being valued and cared for and talking about your ex continuously, makes the other party feel unappreciated. First impressions matter; wear something that makes you feel comfortable. Take care of your grooming, apply some perfume and make every effort to be gorgeous. A shower is a must. For the first date select a place that you are familiar with. Always carry some extra cash in case your date cannot drop you. When choosing a place for the date, avoid a place you will constantly be bumping into your friends. This will create distractions; the date is about the two of you.

Guys your confidence matters; while it is normal for you to be a bit tense take short breathes and avoid overthinking. Do not take alcohol to cure your nerves; this can make your conversations odd and besides your date may not be into alcohol. Keep the conversation fun and maintain eye contact. One party should not do all the talking, but you should give your partner the opportunity to ask you questions and interact. Listening is an important skill that will earn you points. Nothing is annoying as someone who is constantly on their phone. It passes the message that you do not matter. When on a date be polite by turning off your phone. If you are a guy offer to pay on the first date. Make a follow up on your date to find out whether they got home well and how they are progressing after the date. You can then request for another date.

Conclusion

Dating can be a nervous time for some people. But, it is also an exciting time to meet new people. Focus on the conversation and having fun and do not make it too serious. It might take going for several dates before meeting the right person buteventually you will meet someone you like.

Horror Thriller “High Voltage”

SP Releasing will release writer/director Alex Keledjian’s horror thriller HIGH VOLTAGE, set within the gritty and competitive Los Angeles music scene, releasing in limited theaters and on-demand on Friday, October 19th through SP Releasing’s output deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film will open in at least ten cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, and more, and will also be available on all major digital platforms same day. DVD and Blu-Ray release will follow November 20th.

Written, produced and directed by Alex Keledjian (Project Greenlight; FEAST), the film stars David Arquette (SCREAM 1-4; EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS), Allie Gonino (The Red Road; GEOGRAPHY CLUB), Perrey Reeves (Entourage; OLD SCHOOL), and Luke Wilson (OLD SCHOOL; Roadies).

A struggling rock band, led by washed-out rock star Jimmy Kleen (Arquette), strikes a deal with cynical record executive Rick (Wilson). Things take a sinister turn when the band’s lead singer, Rachel (Gonino), and her controlling stage mother, Barb (Reeves) both get struck by lightning and killed. Rachel is brought back to life, but she is different than before: confident, sexy, with an irresistible stage presence. Lightning courses through her veins and she uses her new supernatural electrical powers to drain the life from men and turn it into electrifying stage performances. Her bandmates, including guitarist Scott (Donowho), discover her dark secret, and have to decide just how far are they are willing to let her go to help them succeed. As Jimmy says, “You can’t have rock n’ roll without electricity.”

HIGH VOLTAGE, formerly known as HOLLOW BODY, was produced by Michael D. Jones (CABIN FEVER; KILL THE IRISHMAN), Ryan Gibson (Stan Against Evil; Fear the Walking Dead), Dwjuan Fox (XX; ARMED) and Mitch Waxman (FREAKS). The film is also making a world premiere festival debut at the first-ever Film Fest 919 (http://filmfest919.com), taking place October 3-7 in Chapel Hill, NC.

HIGH VOLTAGE is a mashup of genres combining horror, thriller, musical, and noir into a bloody and beautiful rock n’ roll fantasy. Industry vet Keledjian, creator of Project Greenlight—no stranger to behind-the-scenes drama—also wrote the rocking soundtrack: “The script and the score are based on my experiences of living and working in Hollywood, and the scope and spectacle of film is the perfect vehicle to tell this story. SP Releasing just ‘got’ that, and is releasing it in theaters, which for me is a dream come true.”

Shot in luscious anamorphic widescreen, with vivid colors and extreme angles, the film drapes a golden sheen over the seedy business of show, slowly piercing the veil of the glamour of Hollywood and revealing the broken dreams, dark secrets, and unholy pacts that power the klieg lights.

SP Releasing chairman and CEO Steven Paul, whose previous credits include Marvel’s GHOST RIDER and Paramount’s GHOST IN THE SHELL, is thrilled to partner with the filmmakers for the US release of the picture. He says, “[Alex] Keledjian brought together a wealth of cast and crew, and their efforts have resulted in a powerful movie, with a relevant story, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the journey.” The deal was negotiated for Keledjian by David Pierce of Pierce Law Group, LLC, and Jason Price on behalf of SP Releasing.

SP Releasing’s recent theatrical release slate includes the adaptation of The New York Timesbestseller THE PIRATES OF SOMALIA, staring Evan Peters and Al Pacino; the western-thriller THE SCENT OF RAIN & LIGHTNING with Maika Monroe (It Follows) and Maggie Grace (Lost); and the drama-thriller MADTOWN, toplined by This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia.

TRIGGER WARNING: New Kavanaugh Video

***WARNING: This video is a dramatization of alleged events. It contains violent images that may be disturbing to some viewers. Caution is strongly advised.***

WATCH THE AGENDA PROJECT’S NEW VIDEO: TRIGGER WARNING

The Agenda Project released a new video featuring a dramatization of the alleged attempted rape several years ago by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as described by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. As the text above warns, the footage may be disturbing for some. This is a delicate subject matter for many, but with the future of our nation at stake, we felt this video was an important one to make. If you feel up to it, we encourage you to watch, then act.

The video ends by providing the number to the US Senate switchboard. If you are as outraged as we are that a man credibly accused of attempted rape is being considered for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, please take a minute to call your Senators and demand that they vote against confirming Kavanaugh.

The video was released in conjunction with a piece written by Agenda Project Founder Erica Payne explaining the rationale behind putting out such potentially disturbing footage. In it, she writes:

“Senator Dean Heller called it “a little hiccup.” For Senator Lindsay Graham, it was “a smear.” The Honorable Orrin Hatch said, “This woman, whoever she is, is mixed up.” The X chromosome knows exactly what the Y chromosome means when it says things like that. It means we are nothing. Our claims to our bodies are NOTHING. Like a little hiccup, we will pass.

So it’s come to this. To showing them – showing as many men who have and would do this, and the ones who dismiss it when it’s done – what we’re actually talking about here.”

For more information on why we felt this video was so important for us to release, you can read more in the rest of her article HERE

BlackBerry Spark

By Amardeep Singh

BlackBerry just unveiled BlackBerry Spark, the only Enterprise of Things(EoT) platform designed and built for ensuring ultra-secure hyperconnectivity from all design aspects.

So what’s new in the anticipated release? BlackBerry promises better applications and uses for a wide variety of systems that run on AI and require high level security. Spark will allow enterprises devices to benefit from the maximum use of softwares and platforms such as Watson and Amazon AWS.

As the workforce will evolve, BlackBerry Spark will provide end users with the ability to move seamlessly between all profiles- professional and personal. Critics are indeed impressed by its unique industry-specific safety-certifications, such as ISO 26262 often seen in automobiles. But hyperconnectivity is just one piece of the entire system.

As users would realize, EoT can be put to various uses in organizations.
Employees for example can use virtual assistants like Alexa and put them to work by providing access to ultra secure files. Critical patients in hospitals can relax a bit better knowing that the systemautomatically prepares the staff and any supporting machines while readying emergency care units in the incident of a serious issue.

In the transportation sector, BlackBerry Spark allows connected vehicles to convey messages in real time while being totally encrypted and certified by BlackBerry Spark as genuine. This ensures validation and protects against unwanted issues and attacks. CEO John Chen agrees that smarphones have sparked a revolution in the way people live their
lives but are often blind to personal safety and data encryption.

CCS Insight had long predicted the overlap of EoT, IoT with businesses and users as smartphones became more common. The company calls it a bold but necessary step in bridging worlds and helping people create new
and better experiences.

BlackBerry’s long commitment of providing customer privacy and protection without monetizing client data is one of it’s greatest merits in a world ruled by smartphones.

BlackBerry Spark has already leveraged the company’s portfolio of technology, having earned more than 80 certifications, which is more than any other IoT vendor.

This includes FIPS-validation, AES 256-bit encryption to provide data protection at all levels while following strict international regulatory requirements. To the surprise of the average user, BlackBerry is the only EoT platform provider to obtain Common Criteria EAL4+. And that goes for both iOS and Android.

Roberto Osuna Agrees to Peace Bond

By Reid Urban

Astros right-hander Roberto Osuna finally gained some good news regarding his domestic assault case.

According to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, Osuna appeared at a court hearing on Tuesday and agreed to a one-year peace bond. Because of that agreement, the assault charges from the alleged victim were withdrawn. However, under the terms of the peace bond, he will not be allowed to contact the alleged victim for one year and must avoid any further criminal charges. The reason behind the peace bond was that the alleged victim is currently in Mexico and decided not to return for court proceedings.

According to the Canadian Justice Department, a peace bond is used when “an individual (the defendant) appears likely to commit a criminal offence, but there are no reasonable grounds to believe that an offence has actually been committed.” If Osuna violates the peace bond, it can result up to four years of prison time.

So while Osuna escaped the possibly of facing assault charges stemming from this incident, it means that he’s going to have to be more careful to stay out of any more incidents that could be deemed criminal charges.

Peter McLoughlin Done as Seahawks President and CEO

By Reid Urban

Peter McLoughlin, the president of the Seahawks for the last eight years, is out of the job.

The team announced on Monday that McLoughlin will be replaced by Chuck Arnold, who has been with the Seahawks for 25 years. Meanwhile, Burt Kolde, who is the vice-chairman of the Seahawks, said that McLoughlin’s contract was expiring and that it was a good time to do organizational restructuring.

As a part of that restructuring, it was announced that Chris McGowan will be promoted to Vulcan Sports and Entertainment CEO, and that Arnold will report directly to McGowan.

As the new team president, Arnold will manage all the team business operations and will also serve as president of First & Goal Inc., as well as overseeing the management of CenturyLink Field, CenturyLink Field Event Center, First & Goal Hospitality, and the WaMu Theater.

Kolde said on Monday that the contract was the main reason for the change.

This move comes during a time when it looks like the Seahawks are rebuilding the team on the field and coach Pete Carroll only has two years left on his contract.
