Marvel New Era X-Men Hellfire Gala via Marvel for use by 360 MAGAZINE

MARVEL – HELLFIRE GALA

Today’s X-MEN: HELLFIRE GALA #1 laid the groundwork for the next era of X-Men storytelling! Written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Kris Anka, Russell Dauterman, Matteo Lolli, and C.F. Villa, the giant-sized one-shot was packed with surprises including a vicious attack by former X-Men ally Moira MacTaggert and the world’s devastating response to mutant resurrection, two exciting developments that will lead directly into the upcoming crossover event, A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY! But amidst the drama also came the long-awaited reveal of the new X-Men lineup!

The winner of the second annual X-Men Vote, which garnered a passionate wave of votes from fans earlier this year, was Firestar! The fiery super hero hasn’t always had the best relationship with her fellow mutants and is sure to shake things up as Gerry Duggan’s X-MEN title enters its second year. Also joining the roster alongside remaining members Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Synch will be Iceman, Havok, Forge, and Magik. With the Eternals waging war against mutantkind, the new lineup will jump right into action in next month’s X-MEN #13, an A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY tie-in issue. Featuring a grand-scale battle against the Hex, newly-awakened and mega-powerful Eternals, X-MEN #13 will be drawn by artist C.F. Villa (Black Cat) who comes aboard as the series’ new rotating main artist alongside fellow superstar Joshua Cassara (X-Force).

“Firestar didn’t see the X-Men coming but I’m thrilled that she’s here because commencing with X-Men: Hellfire Gala # 1 and moving on, her story is exactly what the X-Men will need this year,” Duggan said about Firestar’s victory. “If your favorite didn’t win — don’t despair. Every character mentioned is a page from the handbook on the way up. Hope you enjoy year two. Viva Krakoa!”

Right now, fans can check out two newly revealed X-MEN #13 covers: a special design variant featuring Firestar’s new costume by artist Pepe Larraz and the first of Russell Dauterman’s new trading card variant covers that will highlight the team’s new members.

Be there for the new team’s incredible first outing when X-MEN #13 arrives on August 17! For more information, visit HERE.

MUST-SEE EXHIBITS AND INSTALLATIONS

Experience Gallery (on display now)

With inspiring stories from riders who have turned their dream of learning to ride into reality, a look at the epic journeys you can only experience behind the bars of a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle, plus the chance to throw a leg over a new Harley-Davidson #FreedomMachine, the reinstalled and all-new Experience Gallery shows the world how United We Ride!

1977 FLH “Blackula” (on display beginning May 13)

Milwaukee man about town Freddie Franklin purchased his Electra Glide® motorcycle from its original owner, 95-year-old Wallace Brzezinski, with only 4,500 miles on its odometer. And in short order, he completely re-envisioned the bike to reflect his timeless style. The motorcycle incorporates some hallmarks of Franklin’s disparate tastes. A dash of the Coney Island-style bikes – decked out with lights and reflectors – he adored mixed in with elements of Willie G.’s seminal Knucklehead and topped off with details that harken to the 1970s blaxploitation films Franklin watched back in the day. A clear statement of Black pride via the language of vintage motorcycles, this is a bike you must see in-person.

Keith Brammer (Die Kreuzen) leather jacket (on display now)

Perhaps no other genre of music is so closely associated with the classic black leather jacket than punk rock. Keith Brammer, of Milwaukee’s hardcore punk band Die Kreuzen, has graciously lent his well-worn leather to the H-D Museum. The jacket was purchased in New York City in the 1980s and was a constant companion for Brammer throughout his touring days. Check out the Custom Culture gallery to view this piece of Milwaukee music history.

Revolution® Max Engine (on display now)

The brand-new Revolution® Max 1250cc engine powers a new generation of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. See the liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-Twin that delivers for the Pan America™ adventure touring model and the performance cruiser Sportster® S motorcycle. On view in the Museum lobby.

Clubs & Competition (on display now)

In the early part of the 20th century, motorcycle culture was a homegrown phenomenon. It grew out of the passion of riders for their evolving sport. The camaraderie that developed around riding and attending competitive events led to the formation of motorcycle clubs that hosted destination rides, family picnics with motorcycle games and other riding competitions.

The newly reinstalled display case in the Clubs & Competition gallery highlights clothing from club members from primarily the 1930s and 1940s. The clothing selections on view include full dress uniforms, shirts, sweaters, jackets and caps, customized by the owners with their club’s name and logo, and pins or patches indicating membership in the American Motorcyclist Association. The H-D Archives collection includes Motorclothes® apparel sold in H-D® product catalogs but also non-H-D produced clothing items that have been proudly customized by riders.

Harley Fox (on display now) Gail Anderson’s 1986 Softail® Custom motorcycle, “Harley Fox,” built by her partner Bob Burrows, took top prize at the first Ladies of Harley® (LOH) ride-in show during Daytona Beach Bike Week in 1987. With her custom bike and themed riding gear, Anderson presented a striking image that fit the growing visibility and exciting new options for women riders in the 1980s.

Alfonso Sotomayor’s 1957 Model FL (on display now)

The Harley-Davidson Museum is proud to announce its collection has recently grown with the addition of a 1957 Model FL that was ridden by famed Mexican stunt rider and racer Alfonso Sotomayor Canales.

Harley-Davidson’s history in Mexico dates back to at least 1913. In the 1920s, the brand was more frequently spotted throughout Mexico City as the motorcycles proved popular with the local traffic police who would also perform stunts with their Harley-Davidson® bikes. After racing from the 1930s into the 1960s, Sotomayor launched his own stunt riding career by performing the famed “Salto de la Muerte” or Jump of Death. Learn more about Sotomayor’s feats of derring-do and Harley-Davidson’s early entry into Mexico with this new display located in the Custom Culture area.

“Off-Road Harley-Davidson” (on display now)

In the decades before America paved its highways, early riders had to be prepared for all sorts of terrain: sand, clay or dirt – and wandering those makeshift byways were Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Today, it’s called off-road or adventure touring; back then it was just called riding. Since 1903, Harley-Davidson® motorcycles proved their toughness by riding over wooded hills, through stone-choked creek beds and up mountain sides. “Off-Road Harley-Davidson” tells the history of motorcycles designed for rough roads, the people who rode them and the adventures they shared.

“Building a Milwaukee Icon: Harley-Davidson’s Juneau Avenue Factory” (on display now)

A recently recovered cache of architectural drawings includes plans for the original Juneau Avenue facility. The pencil drawings, along with archival photographs, demonstrate the whirlwind pace of the company’s early growth. While building an international business—going from producing just over 1,000 motorcycles in 1909 to manufacturing 27,000 motorcycles in 1920—the company’s Milwaukee factory experienced near-constant expansion. Construction through this relatively brief period created the buildings that today, a century later, are still the proud home of Harley-Davidson.

“Building a Milwaukee Icon” provides a snapshot of Harley-Davidson’s formative years and illustrates a chapter of Milwaukee history when the city was known as the “Machine Shop to the World.”

Google Arts & Culture, Bring a 1919 Window Display to Life (on display now)

As Milwaukee enters the dog days of summer, it’s a good time to remember that MOTOR’s waterfront patios are pup friendly. Whether you’re hoping to try the new Sunday brunch (complete with bloody mary bar), meeting up for lunch or listening to the tunes coming from the Bike Night stage, Fido will love the scene at MOTOR.

WEREWOLF BY MOON KNIGHT!

Marc Spector is currently baring his very soul as he tackles his most hard-hitting missions to date in writer Jed MacKay’s current run on MOON KNIGHT. With new villains and fresh takes on the Moon Knight mythology, the title has been a hit with fans, and this October, readers will be treated to even more revolutionary Moon Knight action in the run’s first annual. A double-sized spectacular, MOON KNIGHT ANNUAL #1 will feature art by Federico Sabbatini, the artist behind select issues of MOON KNIGHT as well as the recent DEVIL’S REIGN: MOON KNIGHT one-shot. The story will feature a bloody reunion between Moon Knight and an iconic Marvel Comics character whom he shares deep roots with—Jack Russell, the Werewolf by Night!

In the Darkhold, there is a prophecy of how a god might die. Jack Russell, more familiar with that cursed tome than most, would like very much to kill a god and save his people, the people bound in servitude to the moon. But to fulfill that prophecy requires the blood of the Fist of Khonshu, and Moon Knight doesn’t bleed easily.

“It’s been great seeing people respond to our MOON KNIGHT series, and it’s always a bit of a thrill to give folks even more- and MOON KNIGHT ANNUAL #1 was the place to revisit some old history,” MacKay explained. “Moon Knight has changed a lot since he first did battle with the Werewolf by Night, but so has Jack Russell, and having the opportunity to see how these two interact now, all these years later, has been a lot of fun. And Jack isn’t the only player in Moon Knight’s history who is turning up when Federico Sabbatini joins us for another adventure (and draws the hell out of it, I must add).”

Don’t miss this deadly rematch between Marvel’s two supernatural powerhouses when MOON KNIGHT ANNUAL #1 hits stands in October! For more information, visit Marvel.com.

MERCYLAND – WE NEVER LOST A SINGLE GAME

Legendary Athens, GA post-punk trio Mercyland has announced the upcoming release of their long-overdue final album, We Never Lost a Single Game, arriving via Propeller Sound Recordings on Friday, September 16. Pre-orders are available now.

Featuring nine songs originally recorded in 1990 but shelved following Mercyland’s 1991 dissolution, We Never Lost A Single Game is heralded by today’s premiere of “Uncle,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services. An official lyric video – featuring historical footage from the band’s 1980s heyday – is streaming now on YouTube.

PRE-ORDER WE NEVER LOST A SINGLE GAME

Formed in 1985 in Athens, Ga., by vocalist/bassist David Barbe (later invited by Bob Mould to join Sugar and now an award-winning producer/engineer known for his work with Drive-By Truckers, Superchunk, Gregg Allman, and Deerhunter, to name but a few), Mercyland played a visceral style of post-punk that was both perfectly contemporary and quite ahead of its time. The trio, which also featured guitarist Andrew Donaldson and drummer Joel Suttles, took inspiration from such American underground peers as Hüsker Dü, Dinosaur Jr, and The Replacements while expertly synthesizing those influences into a coruscating, adrenaline-charged sound all its own.

Known for their exhilarating live performances at such renowned venues as Athens, GA’s famed 40 Watt, Mercyland’s lone full-length release, 1989’s No Feet on the Cowling, seemingly tipped the band for a higher profile, especially as major labels began turning their attentions to bourgeoning indie and alternative scenes across the country. Instead, Mercyland broke up in 1991, relegating music recorded for a planned second album to be released on a series of now-rare 7-inch singles and compilations. Three decades later, these remarkable nine songs have been remixed by Barbe and reassembled as We Never Lost a Single Game, providing a crucial historical document of this criminally unknown band.

Songs such as “Tough Ass Knives” and the album-opening Mercyland manifesto, “Minutes and Parts,” see the band nodding to the jagged rhythms coming out of the Washington, D.C. post-hardcore scene while simultaneously shrugging off parameters and expectations in search of something visionary and impossible to pigeonhole.

“We’d call our music punk rock,” Barbe says, “because to us that meant a kind of music that was independent, but it didn’t have to be leather jackets, spiked hair, and ‘fuck you.’You don‘t have to be bound by anything just because other people use it as a constrictive device. For me, the simplicity of the format allowed me to go anywhere I wanted to.

Having spent the years that followed Mercyland working as producer, engineer, writer, and musician on hundreds of projects by a wide range of artists at his Chase Park Transduction independent recording studio in Athens, Barbe is thrilled to have revisited the band’s still-striking music so long after its initial creation, with We Never Lost A Single Game now standing tall as a fascinating, alternate-universe peek at what might have been.

Nowadays, my job is taking what people have in their head and helping that come out of somebody’s speakers,Barbe says, “but at the time, I wasn’t an engineer and I never felt happy with the way our stuff sounded. The techniques that were popular in studios in the late 80′ were not what we were after. I stripped it down and got it back to what we intended it to be in the first place. I just didn’t have a way to convey that to other people back then.

I’m buzzing to be playing in some cities I’ve wanted to visit for so long, and so excited to bring you a completely new live show.

The local presale begins tomorrow, Wednesday July 13th at 10 AM, through Thursday July 14th at 10 PM local time, followed by an exclusive Spotify Presale on Thursday, 10 AM – 10 PM local time. Last week, SG Lewis returned with two brand new singles: the nocturnal dancefloor-filler ‘Missing You‘ and the italo-influenced anthem ‘Something About Your Love.’ Right out of the gate, ‘Missing You,’ which The FADER hailed as an “80s synth-rave carried on the back of a snappy Linn drum-sprinkled beat that would make Starboy-era The Weeknd salivate,” reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave with a chantable chorus, “I’m not missing you like I’m supposed to.” On the flip side, ‘Something About Your Love‘ fuses a funk-inflected bass line and tambourine with a luminous refrain. The release was celebrated by Dancing Astronaut, who said “Altogether, Missing You / Something About Your Love affirms SG Lewis‘ status as a musical auteur with a knack for merging the sounds of earlier decades with today’s sonics in an ever novel, dance floor-facing fashion.” Both tracks are available to buy/stream as a double A-side single today via Astralwerks.

Ushering in a brand-new chapter, the 70s and 80s have provided a rich seam of inspiration for contemporary artists like SG Lewis (real name Sam Lewis) and nowhere is this more potent than today’s releases. Missing You‘ illuminates Lewis‘ unmatched ability to take underground club music somewhere fresh and towards a new generation and reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave in timeless pop ecstasy. On the other end of the spectrum, the Daft Punk inspired Something About Your Love‘ showcases 70s-era drums, a funk-inflected bass hook, disco-styled groove, and a luminous refrain. Both tracks are classic but deeply contemporary cuts with one suited to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and the other to the blissful ride home at sunrise. This duality is a theme that permeates SG Lewis‘ new era.

Speaking about ‘Missing You,‘ SG Lewis reveals, “Conceptually, it felt like the perfect introduction. It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering.” On ‘Something About Your Love,’ SG adds “It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to ‘Missing You’.

The new tracks follow on from Sam’s debut record times, released during lockdown last year, which found one of modern pop’s secret weapons stepping out front and center, taking listeners on a voyage through soaring electronic dance and kaleidoscopic future disco with a blockbuster collection of guests. Features included Robyn and Channel Tres on ‘Impact‘ (“a house track so physical your feet may begin to move involuntarily,” according to NPR), Nile Rodgers on ‘One More‘ and Lucky Daye on fan favorite Feed The Fire.’ The album received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (who hailed it as “a pristine album”), NPR, Billboard, NME, GQ and much more, with LP highlight track ‘Chemicals‘ amassing over 55 million Spotify streams and counting, catapulting SG Lewis‘ total stream count to over 1.4 billion.

SG Lewis has cemented his status as one music’s most sought-after producers and has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Dua Lipa, Clairo, Tove Lo, Khalid, Aluna, Victoria Monet, Raye, Ray BLK, The Neptunes/N.E.R.D’s Chad Hugo, Gerd Janson, Conducta + many more. Louis Vuitton also launched their pre-Fall campaign with Soulwax’s remix of ‘Impact’ earlier this month and Sam is well regarded in fashion circles, attending, and performing an array of parties across his illustrious career. Behind the scenes, he also produced Dave’s seminal breakout track 100’M’s’ and co-wrote ‘Hallucinate‘ for Dua Lipa‘s record-smashing number one album, Future Nostalgia. Sam has sold out headline shows across the US, Asia, Australia, and Europe as well as multiple festival appearances including prime-time slots at Coachella and Glastonbury – his raucous live shows not only make him one of London’s hottest talents, but also a formidable artist capable of making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.
